Mavrik Bourque On Dallas Stars’ Hot Start, Home Opener, & Bouncing Back From Injury

here with Dallas Stars forward Maverick Cork and Maverick your first home game of the season. It’s only been a week of the regular season, but even Jake said a few minutes ago that it feels like it’s been way too long since you’ve had a home game. Yeah, it’s been a while. Um, we’re excited to be home and um I think we did our job on the road and uh no one establish our home game here. What do you feel as far as the first week so far that you guys as a team have established? I know it’s very early. I think I mean we only played two games so far. I think it’s it’s pretty early. We know we know how we want to play and uh I think we’re we’re not there yet, but uh like I said, it’s only two game in and um now being at home, I think it’s a good chance for us to establish a game. We were joking on the show that well there’s obviously lots of things to work on. Doing so when you have won is a way better and easier circumstance. Yeah, obviously uh at the end of the day you want to win game and uh that’s what we did. Uh so uh but like I said, we know we we got to work on our game and uh yeah, it’s it’s good that that we’re 2 and 0 and we’ll try to build on that. You were really open about last year when we had you on the show. I can’t even remember, it was a month or two ago now, but you talked about how that preseason injury really derailed your hopes for a good start to your, you know, full NHL career last year. How much different do you feel physically? Uh, physically I feel good. Um, yeah, physically I feel good. I’m didn’t really play the way I wanted the first two game, but I’m looking forward, like I said, to to be home and uh get my game going. It’s interesting you say you didn’t play the way you wanted to because it looks from my perspective, for whatever that’s worth, like you’re feeling better both mentally and physically than you did at the start of last year. Do you have just a higher standard than other people watching you do? Yeah, I do. I have high standard and I don’t think I I play close to that so far in the first two games. So, like I said, looking forward for forward for those game and um yeah, I think I have I have high standard for myself and I know I can help this team and uh I want to I want to be a good player in this league and I know what I got to do to become that. What’s missing in your mind? Offense. Got to create offense. Got to generate more. Got to every time you get the pucky, you got to not make something happen, but uh at least create a little bit more. Yeah. Just offense. Does it feel different this year just in the sense? Forget the personal stuff, but just being here. You’ve been through the entire NHL season. Is the newness not so much? Is are you more comfortable in that regard? Yeah, obviously. Yeah. Like you like today is the home opener, but I remember last year my first game here, it’s like you’re nervous all day. like even the day before like now at least like you can enjoy it and uh at the end of the day when the park drop it’s it’s still a hockey game and uh but yeah I definitely feel more comfortable being in my own stuff and knowing my routine and knowing the guys and uh just knowing my environment. Definitely feel more comfortable right now. It would be probably something I’d be criminal for not asking cuz it’s green carpet day. Do you have anything special planned for tonight’s outfit? No, nothing crazy. Yeah, just a casual suit probably. Thanks, Maverick.
