Saw many many Irbe saves. His pads looked like he picked them up in a thrift store. He used to repair them himself on the plane between games. He tried new pads one home game and couldn’t catch a cold. A true legend!
He also played in the National Hockey League.
A good friend of mine somehow became Twitter buddies with Irbe years ago, he’d show me their conversations and the guy is absolutely hilarious. Totally changed how I think of one of my favorite childhood goalies.

He in fact did play for the Hurricanes. I used to go to school with his daughter
Yes he did, he was my favorite goalie as a kid. He signed a t-shirt of mine. I had a goalie book my mom got from B&N back in the day and I used to cut out pictures of Irbe, I played goalie when I was a kid, Irbe and Hasek were my goaltending idols.
