"I don't know – the reality is, we've had a really good club. In certain years, probably one of the best clubs in the league. All I know is, it's time to dust ourselves off and try to build another club that puts us in position to take a run again.

I don't know what to tell you. We have a lot of really good people here…that are working our tails off to put us in the best position to take our shot every year.

I can't answer that because I haven't got this team to the top of the mountain.

Until I do, all I can tell you is: I'm confident in my ability to lead this team and I'm confident in our organization to build a team that gives us a chance to win.

But ultimately, I can't tell you anything to make you feel good – it's about us winning number 28. I'm working my butt off to try to be a part of helping us bring that back."

(SNY) Aaron Boone is asked why there should be confidence in this Yankees regime getting over the hump and winning a World Series:

  1. This was genuine, and makes me like the man himself. He’s not a bottom-half manager. If he ever was green, he *certainly* isn’t anymore. He’s just living through an era where front offices (league-wide) are actually running most team decisions.

  2. Talk is cheap
Last WS win was 16 freaking years ago.
    And that’s the bottom line.
    End of story.

  3. Either that or count on my fingers! My deep apologies for not having basic math skills! 16YEARS!
    16 YEARRS, 16. YEARS!!
It only feels like 26 🙄🫣

  4. “I don’ know”…. Outside of “they shouldn’t but well keep throwing shit at wall”…you could not answer this worse

  5. He can’t know what it takes from a manager to get over that hump, because he hasn’t.

Has he considered asking “Since I do not know what needs to happen to get to the top of the mountain, what do I need to do differently? What does the team need to do differently? What do we need to change? Is our player evaluation flawed? Is our offensive approach flawed? How can we have a better bullpen come October?” or any number of similar questions.

Does he actually ask any of these self-reflecting questions with a goal to make changes? Or does he say “the players are good, run it back out there”?

  6. It was clear this wasn’t the guy for the job from jump, but the longer this goes on here in NY, I just can’t help but feel bad for the guy… I’ve gone from hatred to sympathetic over the last few years lol

  7. I’m 50.

Six World Series wins in my first 25 years of life.

    One in the last 25.

    Something has to change.

  8. What kind of nonsense answer is this!! They must know we all want this team to say “we have a great team and we need to do some thinking in the offseason about how to better our approach to come back stronger.” I have never managed a baseball team but even I know to say that! Give us SOMETHING, man.

  9. He is a problem. His decision making, like playing Volpe who strikes out 14 of his last 19 times, hinders the Yankees ability to win. Bringing Cortes in in the World Series who had not pitched for weeks in a critical situation when Hill was available He just seems to often make boneheaded moves. Replacing Fried when pitching well only to have the bullpen blow the game .Aaron is confident. So am I , that they will never win with him making decisions.

  10. Translation “we will continue to run the same roster construction out there over and over until something gives”

  11. I mean what do you want him to say? He’s not going to shit on the front office or Judge (nor should he), and there’s no magic answer.

  12. Start benching some asses when they’re in a slump. When they make stupid ass mistakes, bench their ass. Start sending people to the minors regardless who they are! Stop getting people for one year. Get some pitching. Boone, sometimes you got to motivate by chewing some asses like Billy Martin did. Yes, he only won 1 WS but that’s 1 more than you.

  13. This whole presser just feels like we are going to change nothing and hope for better luck approach they’ve done nearly every season.

  14. He ain’t wrong. It’s hard to answer when you’ll get to the finish line.

We’ve had some amazing teams in the regular season. Plenty of times we’ve led in a lot of categories. This issue is that nearly every post season, that regular season performance does not transfer over. Either the offense collapses, or the pitching collapses, or sometimes even both. Factor in wrong decisions and it’s a recipe for disaster.

I don’t like Boone. I don’t think he should continue to manage this team in the playoffs, but it’s hard for him to figure out in the playoffs when the bats and pitching will simultaneously perform to the best as they’ve did in the regular season.

The Yankees need a good manager to get them to the playoffs. MLB has a lot of good managers. Boone is a good manager, just good. You need a smart and exceptional manager to maneuver through the playoff rounds. Boone has shown that he can’t do that.

  15. Guys a loser. He has a loser vibe. He will not inspire the players to get over the hump.

  16. This answer isn’t horrible, but it in’t good either. At some point someone has to say “We need to assemble a team that wins every game we play, whether that’s a realistic goal or not” instead of “Gets us to October.”

If the goal is getting to October, we are as good as we are ever gonna be.

  17. I kind of like his look here. I kind of like his responses. Idk he’s my volpe. He sucks but he’s not the worst and shows up when it counts. Re 2004
