NHL Highlights | Canucks vs. Stars – October 16, 2025

winning it in overtime. And how about the start of the year for Roe Hinch? Three points last game against Minnesota. He’s got five points in three games to start the season. And he starts this game at center ice on a line with Sam Steel, the aforementioned Miko Ransin with the Stars controlling it. And here’s Colin Blackwell in wide on Hughes. Reaching out was the Canuck captain to steer that pass behind the goal. Blackwell gets the puck again. Long wrist shot wide to the net. Maverick Court for centers and Fox is stopped on the short side by Demco. Puck winds up in the near corner. Nathan Bastion is there. He’s checked and Hughes gets the puck behind his own net. Sweeps it around towards Kane who can’t move it out of his own zone. Bastion puts one in front and a blocker save by Demco off Adam Ernie who’s playing his first game of the season. There’s another chance in tight. Demco the save off Justin Ritz Kobian who was looking for his first career goal. This one’s going to come off the boards and get gathered right out front. Demco goes from left to right. Seals things off. There is no room to put it past him there. And there of last year following surgery. Here come the Conucks. Jake De Bruskin on the right wing. Drop pass. Filipino with a wrist shot. Stopped by Smith who was out to challenge. Coaching job was here in Dallas. He’s back after leaving. Oh, there’s a tip in off the stick of Elias Patterson. [Music] trying to make the defensive play. He put the centering pass from Maverick Bour into his own neck his end. This is a bad one. First, Patterson loses the draw. Stars get possession. you know, in instead of blocking on Ratic Foxa, he just tries to keep the puck from him and deflects it right past his net minder who might have been screened a bit by Radic who had it that right foot deep in the crease. Again, thrown in front. Blackwell stopped by Demco. Loose puck and it winds up below the goal line. Kane just sends it out to center to relieve the pressure. Morton gets the goal. [Applause] Harley the only assist. Here’s Garland in with a shot to the crease and a left pad save by Casey to Smith. All of a sudden the CS on the offense. Here’s Harley with room. Puts one to the side of the goal. Robertson stopped by Demco. Took the shooter. Took the net away and made the save. Like this behind the net for Lindell. He’s stripped of the puck by Baines. Feeds the line. Tyler Meyer. Slap shot knocked down by Smith. Shoveled on W by Sassin. Puck still alive behind the goal to Sam Steel. Part of the second half of the first period. Steel puts one to the middle. Hit shoots. Demco able to knock it down and the puck is cleared to the side. Sean up the right wing. Robertson moves in. Drops to Johnston. Wyatt Johnson with a shot. Right past save. Rebound. Johnson on the back hand. Put it wide as he tumbled to the ice. His f Heel brings it ahead. Finds the Bruss with room at center carrying it on the left side. He shoots off the outside of the post. Pucket Besser stopped by Smith. Best save of the game yet for Casey to Smith on a bang bang play in front off the stick of Brock Besser down to the Dallas blue line. Hints with speed. Robertson across Ron and scores. the rush as Rinan ripped it on the three-way passing play. Marcus Patterson had his stick in the right spot and still Rantin was able to get enough on it to fool Demco as the Stars power play up ice threeon two miles in this one as we’ve become so accustomed to and he’s out to start the second period on defense with Phil Heronic Patterson O’ Conor Garland up front Vancouver down two to nothing as we get underlyers fakes the shot now lets it go that was blocked nice to Garland coming in centers and Okconor scores scores true. Oh, he pulled it off the line. Pardon me. That puck was heading in. Was a nifty play from Person to give it to Garland. Aado battle looking for skates in front of the net. And this doesn’t go all the way across. Still touching a little bit of red. Person just missed pokes at it and Smith pulled it. Almost put it in, but it just stayed on the close to stealing that puck, but couldn’t quite reach it. And the Stars set up with the power play. Backhander in tight. Demco. Two saves off hits and the puck is sent around by O’ Conor and down the ice Phil heronic and Evander Kane winds up with the puck launches one ahead towards Heedle trying to get behind the defense. He’s in. Heedle scores. Philip Heedle able to corral that puck that was launched forward by Evander Kane and Heedle in alone on Smith gets the Canucks on the board. kill a penalty and then capitalize Vander Kane and it’s off Harley who can’t control it but Heedle can and as he settles it he’s able to pick his spot past the blocker up to Smith. Little shimmy to the forehand low blocker and yeah point to the guy that put that to you Kucks. Here’s Patterson. Canucks looking for the equalizing goal. Dozen seconds to go on the power play. Hughes makes a move to the left. Puts one in front. Tipped in. Brock Besser on the redirect from Hughes. And Besser’s tied the game with 7 seconds to go in the Vancouver power play. Well, Brocktober comes to life. Person Kane couldn’t handle his pass. Meyers gets the loose puck ahead. And here’s Sassin cutting in. Max Sass scores. Three in a row for the Canucks. Sass with his first of the year and Vancouver leads three-2. Bank pass and then pass the blocker. Off the boards by Tyler Meyers. Sassin was behind everybody and then just snaps it past the blocker of Casey to Smith. Kind of hit that shot for a little bit striding. Patterson had the second assist on the power play goal by Besser. Here’s Garland cutting to the middle. goes around the net, tried to make one in and stayed out. Tried to put it in off the back of Smith and Darn near succeeded. Puck’s right near the goal line. Here’s Connor Garland trying to put it off. The goalender goes between the legs and as Smith waved his arms to wash it out. Here’s Garland in again. Sassin takes his pass. Garland around the net and diving back was to Smith and he doesn’t knock it in. This is the next one on the back hand but couldn’t get the feed through to Besser. Back comes Hast and Johnson fan on his shot attempt. Now a backhander headed away by Demco who got his mask on that pitch towards the goal. Stars knock it away. Blackwell deep in his own zone. Gets away from Patterson. Gives it away. Garland in the backand scores. What a move. A steal and a goal in the backand. And Carter Garland with 66 seconds to go in the second period makes it 4-2 Canucks. Oh, he is nifty and shifty. Trying to put it off bodies to the front of the net. Staying on that puck and then this is going to be a blind giveaway that Garland puts his stick down, grabs it, holds on and then to the backand to Smith as he came out, got set and wasn’t able to react in time. They had four goals in a period for the second time in four games this season. Remember they had that big third period against Calgary on opening night. Dishes to the side. Robertson back to Hast. Robertson again to the side of the goal. Randon put it through the legs and a quick shot by Hints is turned away by Demco. Sherwood gets the loose puck and sends it down the ice. Well, Rantin is so shifty. Watch this pass here between the legs and then Demco’s down. Rick wly wide onto the tape and ranting. That was a good pass to the middle. Hasting it in the backand across. They tee it up. Robertson and that one off the post. Not a play. I think he’s trying to put that off bodies. He had Wyatt Johnston at the front of the net. I thought defenseman as well and Person Marcus. Here’s Sean coming towards the goal. Centers they score. Wyatt Johnson. [Music] This is off the entry and a straight line towards the front of the net for Sean. And he gets that backhand pass past Marcus Patterson. And Wyatt Johnson is sneaking down back door and he just redirects it past Demco. Fourth of the season already for Wyatt Johnson. And he’ll just stick in on his own. So 40 seconds left. Quinn Hughes. There goes to Smith to the bench. Hughes with the empty net scores. Quinn Hughes has his first of the year from inside his own blue line as he looked and saw to Smith making a beline for the bench and he put it in the empty net to make it 5-3 Canucks on the opener and his impact on this team and good smarts as he looked up ice saw that Smith was going to the net or to the bench and launched it into the empty net. And that’s the icing on the cake. Filipino protecting the puck and he’ll just dump it around in the Dallas zone. Meyers takes a look up, sees the clock, sends it back around and that’s going to do it. The Conucks in a game they trail two nothing early. Two nothing after one. [Music]

Conor Garland scored the game-winning goal and Thatcher Demko made 28 saves to help the Vancouver Canucks pick up a 5-3 win over the Dallas Stars.

  1. All you casuals who thought the season was over for the Canucks 3 days ago can't be talking now eh??? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  2. Crazy that this game coould easily have been 7 or 8. Puck drifting on the line for like 2 feet. Boeser wrap around that hit far post. Garland shot on wide open that just deflected off Hieskanens stick. Sooo many grade A chances.

  3. Admittedly, I turned the game off after the 1st period. It was bad. After watching the highlights, the Canucks could have had another 3 goals at least. They really woke up.

  4. Sasson has great speed and he can skate, Iโ€™m not sure why he didnโ€™t make the opening night roster. Canucks are Dallas Kryptonite for some reason. No lead is safe in hockey. Hopefully the Canucks can build off this win.

  5. Remembering when Garland was traded to us from Phoenix in OEL trade. At the time, OEL was that #1 D we needed and Garland was a decent balancing piece to the trade. Now, I cannot help but cheer for this guy.
