Rich Eisen’s Message to Chicago Bears Fans Upset by Troy Aikman’s Caleb Williams Criticism

our audience uh in Chicago, Illinois, ESPN 1000 may not like to hear this, but I don’t mind Troy Aman speaking his mind, folks. Um me neither. I I that’s his job. Y his job is to call it the way he sees it. If you are a Bears fan and you thought he was being unfair to your guy, then guess what your guy needs to do? Ball out and win a football game. Guess what they guess what he did? He played better and won. He did. So, you know, and and the fact that, you know, I I like the fact that Ben Johnson has this sort of edge to him, you know, um he he’s also learning as a head coach. You you you should cover up your mouth certainly if you’re telling someone to potentially if you read lips STFU playbook, which is, by the way, not not the name of a new Law and Order. Um although I would watch I would watch Law and Order STFU, I think. Yeah, for sure. Who’s in that? Gary Cole. Well, whoever whoever Ben Johnson I think was talking to on the headset is starring in that one. Um, you know, the Bears are have an opportunity to win four straight games in a season for the first time since 2018. All they have to do is beat the New Orleans Saints at home, which they should, which they should do. Now, the Bears are now taking on teams and winning games that they’re supposed to, you know, uh, supposed to win. And their defensive coordinator, as we all know, uh, would like to win this game. and Dennis Allen so he can win one for Dennis. But you you know the whole business of of clapping back at Troy Aman like that again that’s his job. And in case anybody’s wondering that Troy it was personal because Caleb didn’t speak with him before the game. You know, we always talk about um these broadcast meetings that I tell you about, like we spoke to Matthew Stafford today. Um and it does happen that a quarterback is not available to speak with somebody when they are available to speak with them in a in a broadcast meeting. I don’t know how and Monday Night Football does it if it’s like the way we do it that we’re all on one Zoom. It’s an appointed time and you hit it and the player is there. Um couple years ago when we were here in London, Trevor Lawrence had a change in his schedule and could not make it to our meeting. He did in fact zoom with Kurt Warner later. So the fact that he did reach out to Kurt later and Kurt was um connected with him. A lot of people are reading into well Caleb didn’t wasn’t there for the Zoom. Interesting. So Troy’s axe grinding and it it happens but I’m not saying that it happens at Troy’s axe grinding. Right. Right. Right. I’m just saying that it happens that somebody’s not available and then I guess he tried to Troy and Troy wasn’t there to take his call. It’s his job to call it the way he sees it. He does it he does it for um he does it all the time to Dallas. Yeah. He’s harder on Dallas than anybody else. That’s why he’s so great at his job. That’s true. So, three wings gives you the right to critique quarterbacks how you want. Yeah. Hey, listen. It it does appear this offense is getting better. Curt Warner says it’s it looks like more of an offense than the first two weeks. An NFL offense with a quarterback that feels more comfortable to be in it. And the defense is balling out. The defense has three or more takeaways in three straight games. They have a plus eight turnover margin, plus 10 in their last three games when they’ve won them all and they put up 27 points a game. So, if it helps Caleb to have a shorter field, helps Caleb have DeAndre Swift just run half the field into the end zone, then so be it. Just everybody should just be happy in Chicago. You’re three and two. Who cares what Troy Aman has to say? Larry Fitzgerald’s coming last week, too. I said if the Bears get through last week against Washington, they got a nice little run where they can they can win a few games. Yeah, you’re right. I mean, if Jaden Daniels held on to the football and he couldn’t and the and and and the ball didn’t slip out of his hand in a in a in a handoff with three minutes to go in the game. Yeah. F if if. But well, I’m I’m I’m I’m just watching this game back and there were times when I think Troy was right to criticize the offense of the Chicago Bears. And it’s right for the Bears to just not pay any attention to it and win the football game anyway, you know, but they they they are taking the football away. They’ve got 12 takeaways this season, 12 of them. So Dennis Allen’s defense is opportunistic and doing what it needs to do. And again, if if this offense can perform consistently well, get the run game going, get Caleb Williams, some some of those short fields, him throwing to somebody other than Roma Dunay with with regularity. Uh, you know, I know this is a higher register Thursday. I mean, the the Bears might just make the playoffs. That’s what I’m saying. I mean, that was an overreaction Monday on a Tuesday topic. They’ve averaged seven more points per game this year than last year. It’s the fourth largest increase in the NFL. A full touchdown. Oh, what’s what’s the rest of that list? Do you have it? Um, yes. The the uh you can guess the largest points per game increase. New England. They are three. The Colts. They are one Colts. Yeah, good one. And who’s two? Uh Chiefs. Nope. Oh, really? Seahawks are five. Come on, TJ. Cowboys. That is correct. I thought you meant teams playing Dallas. Dallas Cowboys have scored 9.1 points per game more so far than than the than last year. This time they are number two. The Colts have scored The Colts have scored a full 10.2 points per game more. 10. Wow. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. 1. I agree in criticize a player but please do it both ways. Between Aikman Criticize Williams Daniels threw a ugly INT. But it was like yeah ok next. Those double standards the NFL Media has is really ugly they criticize the hell out of guys like Caleb and Lamar. I wait until Daniel Jones having some bad games they will hunt him again. But if a Daniels or a Murray playing bad they're really quiet.

  2. I have a lot of respect for Troy and his job is to call it as he sees it. BUT – I think he was at best off base and at worst biased for whatever reason. The "lucky:" comment was sort of school yard and hard to understand as Washington's bad play was no more or less lucky than bad plays made by the bears such as the blown coverage leading to an easy TD and a dropped pass leaving 7 points on the field. Washington did nothing to produce the good results. So I was disappointed in Troy and the backlash he is getting is deserved. The "story" is not worth what you guys are investing in it however.

  3. Rich wouldn't put Aikman down as he might not come on his show. The bias toward Daniels is why Bears fans are upset. Daniels was directly responsible for two of the turnovers and all i heard was it was the weather. Williams throws one a yard behind his receiver and we get he's got to be better. Also why should the Bears not have won that game? More points, more yards no turnovers and the short end of most calls by the refs. I'm tired of the guys sucking up to certain players, coaches and teams.

  4. Straw man. 1st, Eisen has 0 credibility after he simped HARD for Shedeur. Low character guy, lying through his teeth. Chicago fans are upset because Aikman wasn't even or fair handed. He slobbered on Daniels' knob all night, even though he threw a pick in the red zone and LITERALLY fumbled the game away. Meanwhile, Caleb puts his guys in position, hits Swift for a 55 yarder, and Aikman calls it "luck." Williams throws BBs for 1st downs and Aikman is bitching the ball is not far enough in front of the receiver. While Daniels' shits the bed on the other side. Be honest, Rich.

  5. Don't try GASLIGHTING us Rich miss us with that BS. This cat spent 65-70% of the night roasting Caleb MEANWHILE !@#% throwing INTs, fumbling balls and no more than 5 minutes criticism. ZERO problem w/ constructive criticism long as its for Both teams and Both QBs.

  6. This is exactly why fans are mad he didn’t call it like he seen it…Troy called a play that ended in a touchdown “ Lucky “ when Ben schemed it up!! That’s not luck and that’s not calling it like you see it rich . I know the jets are embarrassing but I’m going you to need you to hold on to the rope

  7. Rich Eisen, I love your show, but I don't love your take on it. I know commentators will make constructive criticism on comments, but luck doesn't make sense on this take. Doesn't matter what you are or what you do, think before you speak. As Bears fans we get scrutinize on how things are in the season but credit HC Ben Johnson not allowing this team to blink and stay in the game. That's what players do when teams wants to contend. Teams get better. Aikman should know that. Must be a Bears hater. Can you say 3-2? Wasn't ugly on Monday Night but a win is a win. Bear 🐻 Down.

  8. Constructive criticism regarding "Mr Generational" is a no-no with bear SORRY pouty fans and im from the Southside 39th born and raised. he is 1-9 in the division aint won ish and the City treats him as of hes Mr. Halas. The same city that shitted on Mr Walter Payton when he was ill… make it make since….

  9. It wasn't the constructive criticism that was so hard to watch. He is supposed to be impartial and he wasn't. Like I commented to a local media guy, if you weren't bothered by Troy then you are either, not a fan, or your media. I do appreciate all the bear smoozing tho but it does heal the ache man….love me some Eisen

  10. You're wrong Rich.. So VERY wrong…Troy spent the whole game with his face buried in Jayden's jockstrap… speaking your mind is one thing, but what Troy did is just being a hater. CW could win the SB with a 100% rating and Troy would STILL say he's crap.

  11. Caleb Fumbles a bad snap and he needs to handle the snap better. Jayden Daniel's fumbles a perfect snap to lose the game and it's the mist 😂. Troy is, for sure, a Jayden fanboy

  12. A former NFL QB who played in the league for years shouldn’t call a 55 yard catch and run play “lucky.” Thats a bush league comment, especially on a prime time broadcast.

Swift caught the ball, stutter stop and go, and ran it 45 yards. Washington DB’s didn’t react and couldn’t catch up to him. Aikman calls that lucky?

It was a one-sided, heavily biased broadcast, which is disappointing on MNF.

  13. As a Bears fan, I just ignored it. The only thing that annoyed me was the constant glazing of Daniels even on the fumble (which was his fault, not the running back's). If you are going to be critcial of one qb, you should at least call out the other when he messes up too.

  14. Need clear evidence of bias ? How about Justin Fields having a higher PFF rating than Caleb when he had -10 yds passing and took 9 sacks ….. OR Dak Prescott having a higher PFF rating w 1td /3int vs 4 td /0 int for Caleb in a blowout mind you ?

  15. I am a Bears fan. Who cares? I like Troy, but I watched his first 2 seasons and it wasn't very good at all. He mentions it a lot, but he needs to keep it real he used to get pissed at his mistakes not laugh it up.

  16. My problem with Aikmen's comments was he didn't change them as the game played out. He continued to ding Caleb while continuing to heap praise on Daniels even after he threw an interception, telegraphed throws and botched a handoff. But evidently he's a great leader and Caleb has a lot to work on.. Get off the talking points when they stop making sense.

  17. Respectfully not a single person at espn has said anything that would support Troy possibly being a bit biased because he’s y’all coworker lol. Troy didn’t call out a single Jayden mistake the entire game and Jayden’s mistakes literally cost his team the game.

  18. Love Rich but this was a miss. Aikman kissed Daniels rear end while trashing Williams every play and move. Said the win was luck and ya ya ya! Sucker dude.

  19. During the game I thought Aikman and the refs were being unfair, but I assumed it was my bias. It wasn't until Grossi said it, that I knew it was legit. That guy hates the Bears, but he's at least fair. In the end it doesn't really matter, but just inflames the narrative on Caleb. He will forever be linked to Daniels, but we shouldn't forget; Daniels had Kliff Kingsbury to develop and play call for him since the beginning. Caleb had three different OCs, none of which watched film with him. He didn't even have a vet QB on the team to break down film with. He was behind the eight ball from the start.

  20. It’s funny how the media that has Aikman on as a guest backs him on this, even th local Chicago radio stations are backing him because they are afraid to lose him as a guest. It was clear to any neutral observer he was giving daniels better treatment. The fumble was because it was raining. Did Caleb fumble the ball?

  21. Caleb's play was mid. I don't have a problem with Aikman calling out any QB when they don't play well (calling the Swift play "lucky" was questionable).
What i do care about is the 3 hours of glazing Jayden Daniels when his play was inferior. Based on his "analysis", I would have assumed Daniels play was flawless. Daniels, straight-up, was the biggest reason the Bears were in position to win at the end. Not a peep about it from Aikman. Now, tell me again Rich, that he called it straight.

  22. Bears fan here. I was criticizing Caleb right along with Troy. The Bears and Caleb are lucky they now have an offensive head coach who can scheme around a raw yet underdeveloped QB with deficiencies. His best attribute is he doesn't turn the ball over.
