In the storm of Olave trade rumors, I’ve seen fans claiming that Olave is asking for top 5 WR/WR1 money. Glad Nick was able to clarify that. I don’t think Olave is untouchable, but if he’s willing to take a good deal, I don’t think it hurts to keep him during the rebuild. He’s still talented

  1. He’s talented but hasn’t been great this year and is a strong gust of wind away from CTE induced retirement. If we get a half decent offer for him we should take it and run IMO

  2. Honestly, he *shouldn’t* be willing to take a “good deal” on a team like the current Saints. He’s one concussion away from serious concerns for his future health (if he’s not already there). He should be trying to get the most money he can while he’s still in the league because it may not last long.

  3. Regardless of anything else, yeah the guy is going to ask to get paid. Why is this surprising?

  4. It’s not too late to fix the problems he’s having but he’s showing he can be replaced unfortunately. Top 5 money is too much imo.

  5. Who tf is gonna be paying Olave top 5 money? I have a hard time seeing most teams even give him WR1 money imo.

Even if he finishes this season with a career year I see him getting around 30 million at best which would be around Aiyuk, Higgins, and Mclaurin salary

  6. I think the people you’re referring to have misconstrued him wanting to be a WR1 in the NFL versus him asking for WR1 money.

Chris has openly stated that he believes he’s a WR1 in the league, and the Saints are *currently in the process* of giving him ample opportunity to prove that he is one. If he makes game winning plays, dominates his matchups, and gives defensive coordinators nightmares- then it’d make sense to give him that WR1 money. He hasn’t done that yet, so I doubt he’d ask for a $30 million per year contract if he hasn’t earned it.

Naturally, he *wants* WR1 money- that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s actively asking for that compensation the way said people are saying he is.

  7. If anyone gives him top 5 money, you’ll know that 20 other dudes are about to get huge contracts.

  8. Yep logical.

If they pick up the fifth year that means they expect he is worth 15 million plus a season. The minimum fifth year is 15 million it can be more based on production.

So you wait to see if your team thinks you are worth a million a game before talking at all.

  9. I wouldn’t do it. I don’t see this guy getting better. I see the opposite.

It might be wise to consider trading him for talent or draft picks while his stock is still high.

His hot and cold presence reminds me of colleagues I had who didn’t really want to be there but stayed for some reason

You do not want that on any team. If management is seeing apathy, it’s time to part ways.

  10. Folks have no idea what the negotiations talk would be rather they trade him or not I highly doubt he would be asking around the top paid wr money
