Liam Coen Recaps Loss to Seahawks | Jacksonville Jaguars

Yeah, Liam, you just wanted to start with uh the unbelievable pressure on Trevor. I think he got pressured 20 times on an unbelievable number of drop backs and I think seven sacks. Yeah, just um combination of whether it’s one-on-one protection, some stunts. We knew that they were pretty good in some of their stunt game and and twists and uh pressures. I think early on he made a protection adjustment where he got sacked and um you know it kind of confused the running back a little bit and didn’t pick up the blitz. I think it’s probably a combination of um probably some good players on on their side and beating us maybe at some points. I got to watch the tape and then um you know whether we’re being able to progress or not. You know being able to get back to other throws maybe didn’t feel like you had enough time in some ways. So, um, got to move the pocket a little bit more and, you know, we tried to throw some screens and then their DNS are just renot of all the screens. The only screens that were effective were the playaction halfback screens and when you’re in a little bit of a drop back game, you’re trying to throw screens to balance the rush. Uh, they played those well. So, credit to them. They beat us up up front. Devin Lloyd on the sidelines. Saw him a little bit in the second half was holding his helmet. Was that anything health related decision coaching staff w-wise? And then what did you see from Ben? Yeah, so um Devin had a little bit something get a little tight on him and played the first half, came in in the second half, it tightened up on him, tried to loosen up. We tried to go in the second half and uh just couldn’t go, you know, just couldn’t do it. So I I honestly have no idea truly how Ventrell played or not. Um, you know, but we we made that decision to ultimately kind of protect them that way. Uh, Liam, a couple guys just said in the locker room, quote, “We killed ourselves today.” Quote. Uh, if you agree with that, how frustrating is that that some of those pre- snap things keep popping up? Yeah, it’s on me. It’s an undisiplined operation at the moment and uh it’s on me and it’s got to get fixed. It’s a great opportunity this week to get it fixed, right? We’re going on the road. We’re flying to another country. being together as a group. Um, look ourselves in the mirror and and try to figure out from an operation and habit standpoint what is standing in our way because right now it’s us. Do you have a do you have an initial thought on how you can get that message home to them? We had a very honest conversation in there about it. You know, that was the the conversation we just had. I’m sure they were probably echoing that message. Um, yeah, we’ve tried to go tempo to ultimately tr chill out with the motions to just line up and get them in a formation to just go play. Um, you know, we had a touchdown called back because of an alignment issue. We had two on the tackle after positive plays. So, it’s not even just the penalties. Um, it’s when they’re happening as well is is the um Achilles heel at the moment. Liam, uh, lack of pressure on Darnold or and I know Trayvon’s obviously not in there, so that played a role, but but what can you do maybe to kind of Yeah, we got to heat them up maybe a little, you know, we just look at, all right, do we need to send a little bit more? Um, you know, just didn’t get enough pressure at all. I thought they did a nice job at times of being balanced, right? Like they were able to run it effectively enough. It was kind of a weird game. you look up at times and you’re like, “Wait, how are we losing?” You know, like from a first down standpoint, all that. Um, and then I think they had like 53 yards rushing at one point in the second half or whatever it was. And so I it just felt weird. They hit enough explosives and we didn’t. Like that’s the reality is we didn’t get after their quarterback, they got after ours. They hit a couple big plays in the pass game and we did not. So, u I don’t think either team probably ran it as well as we’ve been, you know, running the football. We did come out with a mindset of us wanting to throw the ball, but we’ve got to get after their quarterback more uh as they got after ours. Uh Liam, um how different is this loss compared to the Cincinnati loss in your mind? And how much of a step back do you think this team took after such an emotional win on Monday night? Um you know, I think any loss you’re dealing with some sort of quote unquote adversity. Um, I think the the Cincinnati one was a game where you’re leading the entire time and they just win at the end. And so you’re you’re taking um it’s that was frustrating because you felt like you dominated the game. This was a different deal where we come out, we don’t really do much offensively early on, we score and miss an extra point. So it was like those deflating moments. I think that’s probably the the the theme of today was positive then something negative would occur and kind of take the wind out of our sales. Um, you know, I thought it was a very honest locker room in there in terms of understanding guys that we will not beat good quality teams like this, whether you’re home, on the road, in London, on the West Coast, doesn’t matter, if we continue to hurt ourselves and and have these self-inflicted wounds that ultimately is on me. Concern level with your kicker? No, I mean, look, you know, I think the one on the the extra point, I I don’t know exactly what quite what happened on that. The, you know, the field goal, we didn’t help him. We took a sack um on the prior play that knocked it back about eight or n I think eight or nine yards. Um look, he he knows he’s got to make make kicks and and he’s as hard on himself as anybody. U I still have a lot of lot of trust and confidence in Cam. I think um we just got to go make some of these kicks in real live games. How much of this is a reality check of not getting the takeaways that you’ve been getting? And do you think at all that this team spent the week reveling in a big Monday night win? No, I don’t think that was the case. I mean, I don’t know. I could be I could be wrong. I think when when you walked into our building after the Kansas City game, it wasn’t like everybody was walking around like we were God’s gift, the ball, you know, it was a pretty uh frustrating actually um week in some ways in terms like you’re so happy obviously you won, but it was those that process over the results that ultimately bit us in the butt today, right? like that, not getting those uh turnovers in excess and then um you know have not with the lack of explosives on offense in a lot of ways and giving up a few explosives on defense. Um with the amount of penalties we had, you’re not going to win that game very often. I mean, we had a chance to win, right? You’re down by one score at halftime, you score um miss, you know, missed the kick and just not going to win. wrap it up. Sorry, the two explosives, you know, given up by out of defense. Just what did you see on those that it feel like they just called the right things at the right time? Miscommunication. I got to give uh those guys credit on on their side of the ball as well. I think um you know, Kubak’s done a nice job balanced and being balanced and mixing it. They caught us in quarters and had a quarters beater. They had their fast guy run right down on a post and play action where your safeties are are trying to fit the run and caught us in outside leverage quarters and then another one on the uh over. They caught us in three deep. So he he definitely got us in a few um priority calls and priority looks. Um got to go watch the tape and see if there was anything we could have done better from a one-on-one or or fundamentally technique leverage. Um, but ultimately they they had some timely play calls. Thank you.

  1. Jaguars just have been lucky in their 4 wins….
No consistency all season so far. The only hope is their defense but someone in the front office needs to realize enough with the excuses for Trevor…. he has always had a history of throwing high and just not progressing after 5 years. Should seriously consider trading and cut your losses at quarterback especially after the unbelievable contract they gave him… was it worth it? I think not!!

  2. Liam seemed to make an honest assessment of what went wrong. It's up to the coaches and players to be consistently on point and the Jags haven't done that yet.

  3. This is a good team but the inconsistency with Trevor is a flip of a coin. I have never been a Trevor fan when I seen him against Ohio for the Championship Game. Trevor has always panicked sometimes its good, luck, bad, costly flip a coin and hopes it lands on one
    Side of the good coin

  4. No victory speech this Sunday. Injuries and a short week and some drops and some missed kicks, penalties. The combination of those things lead to this lose today alot of things need to be fixed on to the next game.

  5. This loss and “letdown” was kind of inevitable coming off a big game on Monday night. We will bounce back in a big way in London.

Campy, is a first time DC. Games like today are learning moments for him.

  6. Next 2 games are LA and LV we got this jags off to London then bye week then the back half of our schedule isn't as rough being 4-2 is still pretty good. Clean it up and move on stay healthy

  7. Honeymoon is over. This was always coming. Jags have looked sloppy all year especially on offense. Defense isn’t going to get 3 turnovers a game. Trev needs to start being the reason we win. Figure it out, clean it up

  8. Good game man all love , our Seahawks came in an did what they were supposed to 9 straight games away losing this would’ve been devastating especially after the Tampa game , but salute to the jags you guys just beat KC it doesn’t matter if you lose every game now YOU BEAT THE FUCKING CHIEFS AND SAVED US ALL 😂from the bs

  9. Man I love this coach. He won't shy away from responsibility, and you see that a lot from this team. I'm excited for the future. I think that y'all have the capacity to fix it. Especially since y'all are going to London, then there's a bye week. This is the perfect place to be in. Kinda needed to lose this game in the way that you lost it. Gotta earn those victories and clean up the self inflicted wounds. Coach definitely has the right idea 🫡

  10. We did what the chiefs did last Monday .the jags killed themselves with penalties and Trevor needs to get the ball out quicker .and they to need just spread the ball around and keep the opponents off balance .and not rely on just the defense to keep in the game .

  11. As a jaguars fan Once againTrevor Lawrence screwed up this game. The guy took 7 sacks. He tends to hold the ball way too long. When will the front office learn that he's not that guy. I think it's time to move on from him. He's been in the league 5 years now how much more time does he needs.

  12. Trevor's passion ain't the same as the other starting 31 quarterbacks, yea the oline stunk the joint up but his throws Monday night to Sunday afternoon seems like tlaw don't want the jags to win he hasn't earned none of his jag money he was rich before the jags he doesn't have bakers heart Liam can't break that forcefield!

  13. 4-2 is still good without using your top 2 best wide receivers is crazy I know this team got it 😂💪🏾 they’ll end up in the playoffs I’ll leave the rest to god 🙏🏾👆🏾

  14. Jags just didn't have it together & I kinda knew Seahawks would win.Beating SF in Cali & then KC was shock enough. This was the test, could they win 3 in a row from quality teams. Now another good team,in London,If they win, that will set the pace,if they lose,it could be the beginning of another tough season.

  15. Were good. Would just like to see them let travis loose, both of them. 16 needs to be more accurate but he knows that. Defense will get back to it & bring the energy. Were good
