Charlotte Hornets vs New York Knicks Full Game Highlights | Oct 17, 2025 NBA Preseason TODAY
on and perhaps sometimes a final performance in the final preseason game can change some minds or alter a decision. Hard to do, but you never know. Diabate flips it up. Nice soft touch. Ral rolls around and drops in. So far, scored 145 points the other night. They have a chance to be an explosive offensive team. Knicks defense has been better than their offense so far in the preseason. as Jaylen Brunson misses. Bridges the rebound. The three has escaped the Knicks in the preseason so far. Ball deflected out of bounds. They say last touch by Jes. Well, one thing you can say definitively about preseason basketball. Do not make any rash judgments or definitive evaluations on what you see. Like the summer league. Yes. Nice entry pass and Bridges gets an easy one. And Mike Brown has talked about having teams that have gone deep in the playoffs and they didn’t win a game in the preseason. So they don’t put a lot of stock into the wins and losses, but that’ll start Wednesday. Mike, little zone defense here from Charlotte. Clarkson trying to thread the needle. Last touch by Dawir. And again, when you look at at certain lineups, there’s lineups clearly this one you will not see once during the regular season. You hope you don’t. Sexton gets it in. back out. Bridges. Bridges, as we said, has played well. Both Miles Bridges and Muel Bridges have maybe been their best players in the preseason for their respective teams. Brunson quick up the floor. That has been the focus in the preseason. Can’t get it to fall. Muel Bridges right there on the foul. He has had a good bounce to his step all preseason. He really is ready for this season. Ston couldn’t hold on and he’s not about staying on the perimeter anymore either. He has talked about he wants to get to the free throw line. Look at the active body getting after a rebound. Wants to season him. Think about it. He He’s one of the best players in the league to not be an all-star yet. Y couldn’t get it to go with Jameson and Dawir trying down low and then Canipple throws it out of bounds. on Kipple the fourth pick in this year’s draft out of Duke just 20 years old. They got a bunch of rookies. They picked two in the first round, two in the second round. Brunson drives, double team, gets it out to Diwara. Clarkson launches. That’s what you want to see. He’s just three of 17 so far in the preseason, but when he gets hot, he’s unstoppable. Bridges with a beautiful move. That was the ball movement Mike Brown’s looking for offensively to find the open shot, find the open man. What he doesn’t want is to hold the ball, make a quick decision, and keep it moving. Brunson leans in, gets Sexton up in the air, and gets the bucket to go. How much from what you’ve watched is the difference in the system that Mike Brown’s running as opposed to Tom is that diff is a huge difference when it’s when it’s right when they’re doing it right. Yes, it is dramatically different. It is It is more of, like I said, the quick decision stuff, but you’ll see just getting the ball in the league at it. But it’s make that decision quickly. If you’re going to do it, get right at it. Brunson whips it over. MueL Bridges lines up that three. Fight for the rebound. Good move from Dawir to keep it alive. JSON out to Clarkson. There’s some excellent ball movement around the horn. Rebound out over shot. No hesitation. Quick tempo. Well, last year the Knicks made a nice jump in terms of assists per game amongst the league. Diabate showing some footwork. Gets inside. Obviously, when you shoot as poorly as the Knicks have done in the preseason, that’s just not going to fire up. Yeah. Yeah. But again, it’s what it looks like. Brunson, beautiful move. Can’t finish. Ston comes out of the pack. And what you’re seeing, it’s it’s the nipple. Ball kept alive, but right there. Now, you can see the pace right here, Mike. Right. But but it’s it’s about the decisions and that’s what Jaylen Brunson’s talked about is you don’t have to it’s not all about running fast as Clarkson makes that blow up. It it’s about thinking fast and playing fast. It’s pace. Well, there will certainly be growing pains. Bridges lines it up and knocks that one down. Good setup from Liam McNeely, the rookie. And Bridges able to hit the three. You know what’ll happen too, Mike, is the other team will start playing faster, too. Jennison not expecting that pass. Muel Bridges knocking down the three. He is shot well from three-point range. He really has had an excellent preseason. Came into camp in tremendous shape and ready to run. Boy, Bridges, he was hot the other night in that game against He was four or six from downtown in that game. 29 points. You talk about a fast-paced game against the Grizzlies. That’s what that was. Well, there’s good ball movement and Clarkson wide open. Four six for the Knicks from downtown, which is a great sign. Diabate got it knocked away. Good defensive play from Clarkson. Knicks look to push. Bridges run. Long three-pointer. Bridges the offensive rebound. almost careless with the pass. They listen to the crowd. Oh yeah, they’re so into it. They’re ready for this season, this crowd. Their misses that ball poked back out to Brunson. And Jaylen Brunson on the mark. His second three-pointer. And a timeout call by the Hornets. They’re not afraid, you know, to use his voice. So I love him. Well, two things to take out. Number one, you can see he’s Mike Brown has quickly seen what we’ve all seen for now coming on four years. What a special player, what a special young man he is. This talk about the leadership is interesting because Jaylen Brunson has always been a leader by example, but he’s clearly been more vocal, Alan. And I think, you know, when you have a coaching change, but the core of the team has stayed the same as Bridges hits another three. It’s very important for the leader on the team, the captain of the team to lead the way in that aspect because the head coach is going to get to know his players and figure out who we can push and who we can’t. But the captain already knows. And so that’s an important tone set. And I also loved what he said early at the very beginning of training camp when they talked about the change in the system and everything else. And he right away said if he’s open to everything and he said you have to be willing to adapt and willing to change. If you want to win, you’ll do it. And that’s what this season has to be all about. And it certainly is what Jaylen Brunson’s all about. Meanwhile, Prince has knocked down another. But look at that survey. This is from the probably close to a decision, but these are important minutes for both Shamid and Matthews tonight. Absolutely. For Shamid, think about it. McBride shot gets blocked, but they’re going to call a foul there. It’s almost a year to the day in a preseason game where he was locked in on this roster that he separated his shoulder on that defensive play against these Charlotte Hornets. It was a preseason game against the Hornets and it cost him the start of the season. He said he was waved for the first time in his career and he talked about just the grind to come back from the injury to get back on the team and to feel part of the team. So, he has a great appreciation just being here again and competing and being healthy. The two of them as they’re going to challenge that knowing that perhaps there’s going to be contact after the release that often has an impact. Yes. On your form and on the success of the shot. That’s why it’s considered good defense. Canel makes his move inside on Brunson and he turned his ankle. Simpson with six on the shot clock. He hasn’t missed yet. Bridges finally misses that one. He was six for six. He’s got a loose ball foul on Cogn. Bridges was six for six all four threes. Corner where he’s at his best. Jaylen Brunson, by the way, that was an excellent close out because you said it. Cano twisted the ankle. So, okay, he’s going to he’s trying to line up a three and he’s forcing him. If you’re going to do anything, you’re going to have to drive on that ankle that’s now bothering you. But he closes, forces the pass, and leads to the rust shot. Bridges sits down to Jean Salon, the secondyear player out of France, another just 20 year old. They’ve got a a lot of young men on this team. They do have a couple of good veterans they picked up like Pat Conetan. Yavoselli can’t get it to go. Huck was held by Cochran. That’s two quick fouls on the rookie. Good work from Hucking. Be happy to see Bridges out of the game. 16 points in under eight minutes. 17. Seion James, another rookie from Duke has checked in. And there’s one of the veterans, Mason Plumbley. You have to have some of those veterans like a Plumbley, like a Conetan to help out. They brought in Colin Ston as well. Bridges also again, seven years now in Charlotte. They cut Spencer Denwy, which was a bit of a surprise. Woody signed a one-year deal, but Sexton is going to play that role. Sexton they acquired from Utah. Brunson finds a little space and knocks down the three. He’s been hot. 11 points here in this first quarter. Here’s James the 22 rookie to Simpson. Simpson in his second year. Lets it fly. Can’t get it the fall. Yoselli takes it away from Plumbley. Shannet off the bounce. You see this ball movement. This is what Mike Brown likes to see. Brunson unable to get it to go. See how it’s not sticking? It’s just moving. It’s popping. Salon 69. He looks a lot taller. They list him as 6’9. Nice side step three-pointer from James. Can’t get it the fall. Hucking the rebound. Harding with Yavoselli. So Yabu playing the four. Shannon can’t get it. The fall. Rebound falls into the hands of Plumbley. Hornets also like to play at quick pace obviously with LaMelo ball. That’s where he excels. But he’s not playing tonight. You know his Brandon Miller. Simpson misses. Plumbley the long rebound. McNeely Yavelli good defense on him. Salon launches his three. Averages about six points per game last year as a rookie. Only shot 28% from three. Hornets back in that zone. Seen a lot of zone in the preseason games. down. I think probably because you’re not doing any scouting, right? So, you’re just keeping it vanilla. Salon. Tough move. Tough shot. Brunson the other way. Putting it mildly. A pony running the floor and the flush. He could play some important minutes again with Mitchell Robinson. He’s out still and the injury history. You hope Mitchell Robinson’s going to play most nights, but Hakorti has shown he’s he is more than capable. You saw last season the footwork does not get the garden bounce, but you saw his his feet were good. His athleticism off the charts. He’s an intense player. A lot to work with here. Deuce McBride off the mark. 16 of the 23 shots have been three-pointers for the Knicks. They’ve hit six of them. 13 of the 18 shots for Charlotte have been threes. It nearly gets inside. Nice shot. Strong move from the Yukon product. The the spray three is is the It’s the shot of the NBA. Brunson count it and a foul. I think it was beyond the arc. So, a chance of a four-point play. He had not shot the three well so far, but he’s shooting it well tonight. Let’s go bright on Wednesday. You know, he’s ready. Every player has a different schedule, the veterans, in terms of how they approach the preseason. Some just coast. Coast is maybe a little bit too harsh a word, but but don’t go full speed. Others really want to rev up and be ready. Opening seconds of game one. Simpson drives inside. Nice move. Jennison does a good job tipping it away, but good hustle from the Hornets. Peterson fires away. Boy, they’re putting him up. James, nice hesitation. Goes right at Bridges. Bridges stays with him. Well defended and then gets the rebound. Could Jes run the floor. Mike Ronson steps back. This one’s short. I really enjoy watching GS play. You know, he he’s he’s vocal, a big man who really moves around. He’s running the defense from the back end and very physical and runs hard. He just does everything hard as Salon fired up on that play. Took a hit and a chance for a three-point play. The rookie definitely put some weight on, got stronger, and if he’s facing somebody smaller than him, he’s going right to the basket. He’s got tunnel vision to the rim. Strong finish. So now they list them as 69 two openers. Swiss and Sar selected one two in the 2024 draft. Loose ball foul. It’s going to go against Jameson who’s trying to lobby for it to be called against Diabate. But Jameson, I agree with you. Love watching him play. He’s going to be 26 next month. Wasn’t drafted. Mixer is 15 minutes. He produces Diabate shoot Nick on the penalty with 54 seconds remaining. Diabate his second round pick. Clippers took him back in 2022. This is his second year with Charlotte. Had a two-way contract when he first came. Converted to a standard. Another young man born in Paris. So Brunson playing the entire first quarter as is MueL Bridges. No anobi, no Hart, no Robinson, and no Carl Anthony Towns. Brunson turns it over. Peterson or Charles Lee is up bouncing around on the sidelines. Simpson well defended. Shannon played him well. Ball knocked out of bounds and it’s stick ball. Shot clock turned off. Final should be the final possession. You said it, Charles Lee was all over that possession like it was game seven. I love it. But that you were right, Landry uh Shamid on that possession. Great defense. Bodied up. No hands. McBride. Good help defense from Diabate. McBride’s got to get it off and does not get it offensive. That’s some good defense and he gets hugged. Charles Lee Hungate for
