Full Highlights | Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs – Oct 13, 2025 (w/Joe Bowen)

The Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings finish off a home and home series. The Leafs have not started real well. They have looked slow and we know that’s not the case. Puck is dropped. We’re underway as it’s cleared down into the Detroit zone. Played out and down the ice into the lead zone. Icing waved off. Brandon Carlo is pulled over from behind. Cowan still out there. Gave the puck away and it’ll go. What a save made by Stallars. Raymond in with the drive and the wrist shot went wide of the goal. Coming up on the right wing side and the Leafs are out. Threeon two rush. Matthews across the line to Cowan. Back to Matthews. To save made by Cam Talbot. By the time you say those guys names, they’re off. There’s a line change and they’re not even on the ice anymore. Pass intercepted by the lead a shot. Oh, Tavaris. I’m still trying to get used to that. 5363. Yeah. Machelli after the puck in the left wing. Can’t get through. Turned over for Knander. Sharp angle now to center in front of the goal. Oh, and Machelli had a great chance, but he slid by it as he was trying to regain his balance. Wings Kane and over the line, dropping it back and a shot goes off the shoulder of Stallars and off the glass. Regrouping the puck for Edmonson. And up on the right side, a pass ahead. A good collision there by Benois. Springs. Nice. Nice with a shot. And a good glove save made by Cam Talba who had to stretch out. 943 to play in the first. The Leafs win the draw. Pass right in front of the net. A shot. Oh, what a chance Matthews had. He’s looked good in the first two games. It would have to be Nicholas Raw, would it not? Here’s a hit there by Joshua. and Lisa gets a pass on the left wing with one man back closing in on goal shooting and a pad save made by Cam Talbot. Another chance comes back to the point. Riley with a wrist shot in traffic got through and Talbot got a piece of leather on that was knocked away as it goes along the boards. Machelli working to the near left wing side looks in front of the net and gets his man a pass in front. Oh, and that was swallowed up by Talbot. I think that the Leaf there was looking for the back door play but didn’t quite get it there. Brans Nygard gets the puck down into the zone. Andrew Cop playing it around back of the net and a penalty is coming to Toronto. Banks it back to center ice and Benois will hold hold and now send a bouncing shot in high goalender town. We saw a goal like that in San Jose. Oh yes. Did you ever give up one from that far out? Not a televised game. I made a career out of it. At the point wings with the draw and a shot is deflected wide by Stallars into the slot area. Knocked high into the screen. High stick. Is this going to be a delay a game penalty? I have a feeling the Leafs are in trouble here, Joe. 11 seconds left in the penalty to Morgan Riley. They walked to the line with Cider getting it down into the corner. Back to Cider into the slot area now in a wrist shot down low. Stopped there by Stard. He tries to paddle down the puck. It’s still free at the side of the goal and they score. It is not a five on three. The penalty had expired. Still a power play goal. And it’s Dylan Larkin. His second power play goal of the season. And right after Anthony Solars came up with an outstanding outstanding stop but couldn’t find the rebound. I agree. And then and then when it hit him, he literally had to fight it off. Matthews gets it ahead. Here’s a chance now for Cowan in across the line. Oh, and a rush shot was knocked away by Talbot. I’ll tell you, the Cowboy has looked pretty good out there for the Maple Leafs. Left wing side for Van Remdikeke. Van Remstead gives it off to the centerman. Appleton now with a pass into the left wing side. Back hand drive. Big save made by Stallars. Oh my, what a stop that is. Wing skate back at center and shoot it in. That bounces right out in front of the goal and it is grabbed off by Robertson. Robertson ahead for McMahon. McMahon driving the net and a goal. Big save. The rebound. First good scoring chance for the Maple Leafs. engineered by Nick Robertson. Against the boards is Matthews. Cowan unable to get to it. Matthews does. Matthews with a wrist shot that hit the mask. Left wing boards and brought out at center ice. Stolen by Matthews. He has Cowan with him. Matthews in with a pass. Rebound off the stick of the shot is stopped by Tal off the stick of Liverman Larson. Best scoring chance the Leafs have generated. Doy but knocked out of midair by the Detroit defense. A long lead pass, breakaway opportunity and a goal and a good save made as Ras Musen had the breakaway. Wings get it ahead. Patrick Kane bringing it in over the line. Kane being in a now a penalty is coming to the Maple Leafs. Big part of the game unfolding here. Kane has his pass intercepted by Matthews. Matthews and N trying to make it in over. N is dragged off and there’s going to be a penalty here to the Red Wings. Matthews against the boards. Knander into the slot for John Tavaris. Tavaris a shot that went off a body and went wide. And another penalty coming. Is this too many men on the ice? Brink down low. Kane trying to center. Knocked away by the Leafs and pushed ahead for Rua. Rua working it over the line along with McCabe into the slot and a shot. Big rebound in front. Oh, and couldn’t get a stick on it as it bounced over his stick. Played around back of the net for Robertson. Coming out in front with a shot. Talbot got down and blocked that with his chest. Robertson spinning it back for Doi. Back of the net. Trying to come out in front. He rolled it in front of the goal. A shot is gloved by Talbot. Ecman Larson. Back hands out at center. Robertson hustling after it. Robertson stops up, trays it in front of the goal. Oh, what a save. Talbot makes off Bobby McMahon. Great play made by Robertson. Tavarus won the draw, but the Red Wings poke it out. And now a foot race is on as they break it in on the backand scores. James Van Remsteike on a turnover at the blue line and the Wings have been very fortuitous here to take a twomon lead. A pass up the middle finds Cowan. Leftwing pass. Matthews in. Shoots. Stopped again. Oh, what a save made by Kev Talbot. Great play by Cowan to spring the captain and Matthews is denied not once but twice. To provide a little bit of a jinx the last Detroit shut out in Toronto. Oh, January 3rd. Mhm. 1976. Oh, back to the blue line to Jake McCabe. Run around back of the net for Matthews. He let it go. The Rings can’t get to it. McMahon does. He keeps it in. Matthews in front of the net. The pass in front. They score. Matthew Knaster [Music] Jim Ralph carves a goal and the Leafs are up down two to one. Middle of a line change. Bobby McMahon rightwing side. I don’t know how he gets this through. McMahon coming off the boards. Sees the eyes out front and the defenseman kind of slid almost perfectly out of the way. Troa up front. It comes back to him at the blue line into the slot. One timer on the far side for Oel and it was kicked away nicely by Talbot. Knander still with it. Dropping it off. A wrist shot coming in on goal and that was blocked into the corner. Matthews with it again. The Leafs are buzzing. Back to the blue line to Benois. Benois shot is gloved by Talbot. Oh boy, things are heating up here this afternoon at Scosang. Leafs win the faceoff. Knander with a shot in traffic and it was kicked away by the Wings just at the last. Set it in front. A shot by Machelli is stopped by Talbot. Missing a big hefty hit there by EMTT Finny. Looks like a high stick might have come up and caught Ekman Larson though. The Red Wings play it off the boards, but it’s cut off. Kept in by N. N into the corner. Nice to the side of the goal. Sanders defend the net. Little yard scores. Cali Yard Crook. Three goals in his game. High twos. They can talk about Eastston Cowan trying to make the most of an opportunity. Kelly Yarn most likely if not for the injury to Scott Lton would not have been in the lineup in game one and has now scored in three consecutive games to start the year. Skating room to his liking. works it out at center with a pass to Ny. Was it the Leafs again? No, it’s the Red Wings. Red Wings skates it out at center. Working in on the right wing into the slot holding. Drops the puck back. Bobby McMahon shot was a toe save. Unable to get it out. Larkin now with it into the slot. Closing in. Oh, great stick. Great stick there by Oliver Eman Larson to intercept the pass in on the far side to knander and that was kicked away by Talbot around the boards to the far side but Larkin comes away one man back Larkin in over the line got it into the backand huge save are going to get it out and down the ice but you got to come up with the big saves wings win the draw shot and Stallars kicked that into the corner here is Larkin sending it back along the boards for EMTT Finny. Finny to the blue line and another long shot is blocked for the rebound scores. With 44.1 seconds left, the Red Wings Appleton got a juicy rebound and pounds it home for the go-ahad goal. Austin Matthews blocked the shot and it went right back onto the stick of Appleton and it was knocked away. Knander keeps it alive. Back to the point and now to Matthews on a shot. Blocked rebound in front of the net. They bang away at it. Talbot’s down and he covers up on it. Trying to get it out in front. It goes high to the far corner. 3 seconds left. Centering pass knocked out of the air. Wings are going to escape with backto back victories in a game dominated by the Maple Leafs. Outshooting Detroit. Well, now they’ve taken one away, but 40- 15, but lose it by a score of 3-2 on a goal by Mason Appleton with just 45 seconds left in the third period. Yeah.

  1. Very grateful to Joe for gifting me tickets to tomorrow’s game against the Predators, highlights will either be uploaded later or the next day, thank you Joe!

  2. I haven't enjoyed announcing this much since way back in the days of Danny Gallivan. Great game, my favorite announcing. It's going to be another really fun season.

  3. Toronto fan here 30 plus years. I've expected nothing after we had Mat Sundin, Joe Newyndyk , Ron Francis, Alexander Mogilny, Eric Lindros, Ed Belfour, Cujo, Shane Corson, Darcy Tucker, Tie Domi, Demetri Yuskevich, Brian McCabe, etc. Just after the 2000 lock out.

  4. Joe, if you ever happen to read this … you're better than ever, and that's coming from someone as old as you and has listened to you since high school!!! Please don't retire.

  5. Both tenders played outstanding if Stolley wasn't screened, it would have been OT WOW so many chances Leafs couldn't get past Detroit's tender what a super paced game Leafs need more empty net practice lol. TYVM Jelly great clips man.

  6. Reimer would have done a Talbot on them and shut them out!!
Stolarz is too slow for these passing shots.
And he's rusty from last season injury.

I'd save him for mid season..not play him full time.

  7. I'm a Detroit-born Wings fan for 70+ years now, but I was so elated to find this channel last year, and so happy to watch it these past two games. The Leafs will surely be my #2 team in 2025/26 because of the joy LeafsJellyHD brings to every game. Can you believe it .. Mickey Redmond and Joe Bowen 164+ times? 😋

  8. Commentators everywhere outside of Toronto are calling out the Leafs for being slow. I just came across the stat that the Leafs are the heaviest team in the NHL based on average player weight 😮 FFS, is Phil Kessel in charge of catering the team meals 😮 Also, if they are so big why do they not play that way?
