Myers and Cole Fined, Panthers Extend Gadjovich, Sharks Waive Carlsson and Thompson

Welcome back. All right, news of the day video for all you fine people on the internet for your Sunday. It is October the 12th. Uh starting off at the top of the board. That’s normally how this works. Couple of fines handed out by Department of Player Safety. So for people who wanted a suspension, they’re not happy. For people who don’t think it’s worthy of a fine, they’re not happy either. It is that unhappy medium that Department of Player Safety is pretty good at finding. Um Tyler Myers has been fined for slashing McDavid. I I I would call it a a spearing. Well, I mean, I guess not, but if you’re bringing your stick up between a guy’s legs, I don’t know how that’s I I don’t I guess. Sure. I’m I’m kind of surprised it’s just a fine. I am just a little bit. Uh and I can already hear people saying, “Oh, that was totally worth it.” So, I I you know, it’s one of those things. Uh and Ian Cole has been fined for a trip last night on Steven Stamp coast of the Nashville Predators. So, two incidents, both of them resulting in fines, and there you go. Let me know your thoughts. Uh, the Florida Panthers continue to sign players. Uh, they want to make sure everybody on this team stays until about 2045 from the looks of it. Uh, Gadivich, the latest, he signs a two-year extension with the Florida Panthers. The cap hit $95,000. Uh, Gadivich is a fourthliner. He is a sandpaper type player. Doesn’t provide very much offense. I think that’s very fair. So I think that’s a a fair deal for Gadivic and for the Florida Panthers as well. So Eastston Cowan watch appears to be netting some results here as Cowan uh is on a line with Matthews and N at practice today. He is expected to make his debut in the lineup tomorrow. And uh one of the reasons that he’s going to be in the lineup tomorrow would be that Lorent uh left left last night’s game with an upper body injury and he is not going to play tomorrow against Detroit. So it looks like Cowan’s going to go right up to the first line. Um yeah, that should that should be interesting to see what kind of difference that makes. Not only that, of course, Toronto playing at home instead of playing in Detroit. Uh but yeah, let me know your thoughts on East Cowan going from the press box to the first line. How you feel about that, Leafs fans? Um, so the Ottawa Senators, bit of a rocky start to the season for them. And I think the big surprise might be play so far. He’s allowed 10 goals. He has an 808 safe percentage through the first two games. I seem to remember him having the occasional slow start in previous seasons. I don’t think it’s necessarily going to be a big deal. The problem is that the Ottawa Senators over the last, I would say, almost almost decade, we’ve seen them get off to some slow starts. Even last season, they did end up making the playoffs. Uh, but there were definitely some some issues they had towards the start of the season. So, the sooner Mark figures this out, he’s just 32, which is young by goalending standards. Uh, sooner figures this out and the defense gets a little better, uh, the better off the Ottawa Senators are going to get. The good news is there’s some some players on their way back. uh Bathson uh the hope is that he’s going to return on Wednesday to the lineup and Tyler Cleven saying today he expects to play tomorrow. So the expectation is Cleven will be in the lineup tomorrow for the Ottawa Senators. Uh Ba may very well return on Wednesday. I also wanted to say too while I’m thinking about it uh that I’ll be doing Monday and Tuesday’s preview today because there are some very early games on Monday. So, I want to make sure people who want to make their predictions have plenty of time to make predictions before those games get started. Uh, Jacob Slavven, the reason for a Carolina jersey and the reason why you probably don’t want me to wear your team’s jersey for a news video. Uh, Slavven got hurt last night against the Flyers. His status for the upcoming six-game road trip is unknown. Um, and yeah, six game road trip. There’s going to be a lot of long road trips this year, a lot of long home stands as well, and a very condensed schedule. So, all these things put together, it’s going to mean chaos. I also think with the schedule being so condensed, we’re going to see injuries and those injuries are going to be missing more games due to the fact that you’re playing 16 or 17 in a month rather than 13 or 14. So, um it’s going to make for an interesting season. Probably a lot of news videos like this where I’m talking about guys getting hurt. Um looking at the scoring, I I wanted to look at how things are going so far in the NHL. So, pulling these numbers from hockey reference, uh, the goals per team per game uh, have gone up so far from last year was 3.01. It goes up to 3.12. I like the ones from Hockey Reference. I don’t think they count shootout goals. I think the NHL’s total includes, you know, if it’s a 5 to four shootout win, they qualify that as a nine-goal game, whereas hockey reference, I believe, would qualify that as an eight-goal game. Uh, but power plays per game are up. So, one of the reasons that we’re seeing high scores is that the power plays that teams get per game. Last year was at a low at 2.71. This year, we’re already at 3.62, which is a huge jump, but it is still below where we’ve historically seen it. We have seen plenty of seasons where there’s more than four power plays per game per team. So, even though the power play percentage around the NHL has dropped a little bit, uh, the actual number of power play goals is up and the number of goals per game is up. So, we’ll see if that trend continues. It’s just something I wanted to take a look at because everybody’s played at least two games so far. So, just take a look and see how things are going. Uh, two players on waiverss today. Both of them San Jose Sharks, Lucas Carlson and Jack Thompson. Believe both of them are defenseman. And I would think they very likely get through waiverss unclaimed. Although Thompson may be somebody that a team might look at if they’re having some injury issues on the blue line. I think they probably both clear and end up getting sent down. Uh yeah, so we’ll see how everything goes. There’s just the one game in the NHL today. So we will be I will be reviewing that. We I will be reviewing that later tonight. And then after that, we will be doing a live stream. We being myself and my wife as well. And as I said, I will also be previewing the games for Monday and Tuesday because of those early starts on Monday. It is uh Thanksgiving in Canada. So, it’s weird how in the States uh it’s a day off for the NHL, but in Canada, it’s let’s have 10 games that day. So, it’s it’s strange. It’s different, but that’s okay. We’re having our our Thanksgiving today. So, uh thank you guys so much for watching, for all your support. Hit like and subscribe if you’ve not done so already. Uh the power rankings ahead as usual and uh I I did do it a little bit different. Some people seem to enjoy that, some people don’t. And that’s just that’s the nature of the internet. That’s just the way things go. But thank you guys so much for tuning in. I will talk to you again soon.

  1. QUESTION: With the beginning of the NHL season can you cover the roles of the refs and what they do? My wife asked me at a live game and asked why do two refs have orange bands and the other two don’t? I couldn’t give her an answer. Please Help

  2. In the states its columbus day thats why its a day off for most people.

Edit: If you mean american thanksgiving no hockey its because they dont want to compete against nfl football all day (I know its sad)

  3. The only real punishment a player can have is missing games. Impacts them financially and the team. It's a real punishment. Fining them 20 seconds of ice time in salary doesn't do jack, Jack.

  4. Is the Power play thing always higher to start the season with Refs trying to cut down on rough play early in the season, until they give up and let anything go later in the season and especially into the playoffs 😂 would be curious to see if thats been a trend over the last 5 to 10 years

  5. Hockey on Thanksgiving in Canada is like football on Thanksgiving in the US.
Football is also why there is no hockey on US Thanksgiving.

  6. Not sure the the NHLPA doesn't get rid of the back to back games next negotiation; hockey has no more business playing back to backs than football does.

  7. Controversial opinion: Canadians are expected to be thankful for games on thanksgiving hockey games, Americans couldn't be bothered.

  8. Too bad Gad wasn't good enough to stay on the Canucks. He seemed to enjoy playing here. I guess he is stuck with the 2 time champs

  9. Players will also be out longer with injuries this season, at least the ones hoping to play in the Olympics, because they won't be able to take all the funky Russian style sports medicines due to the Olympics being a lot more serious about drug testing. Players will also be sick more often and longer, because players won't be allowed to take Sudafed.

  10. So Myers looses 0,1% of his salary for neutering the best hockey player in the world ?
The department of player redicule does a bangup job on preventing future injuries !

  11. It's Slaven's right knee. First noticed the brace after Team USA workouts. He was fine at HMI camp in Raleigh and the HMI camp in Col. He came back to Raleigh after USA workouts with the brace on in a video where he talked with NC State football team. He them missed part of training camp and the rest was in a yellow no contact jersey. Slavin dis not play in any pre-season games.
