The Pelicans have a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY…

The New Orleans Pelicans have a golden opportunity to go out and make a perfect signing for this team as Joe Dumar has made it very clear that they want to start winning games and be a playoff contender this season. And though they already covered a massive hole through one of the better trades this season, they are still missing one of the best players on the roster. And now they have the perfect way to cover for missing DeJonte Murray for the first half of the season. and we’re going to break down exactly how the Pelicans can pull off an absolute steal right before rosters are finalized. There’s a lot to go over on this situation and we’re going to waste no time jumping right into things as always guys. But real quick, if you are part of that percentage, that 57% that’s not subscribed to Pelicans Digest, make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss a daily update on the New Orleans Pelicans. We got videos coming out every single day from Mels and myself, and you don’t want to miss out on all the fun we’re having on this channel. But let’s jump right into it, guys. There is a lot to go over on this team and just on the Pelicans in general because look, as we know, the Pelicans, they acquired Jordan Pool early on in the offseason in that CJ McCollum deal because Joe Dumar wanted to get a point guard for this team. Deonte Murray last year went down with a torn Achilles and he will be back next season, probably around January or February, and that’s obviously excellent news to have Deonte back with the team, but up until then, there isn’t really that type of floor general there. Now, Jordan P definitely could play the point guard position, but being a score first player and an excellent spot up three-point shooter, I like him better as a two. Meanwhile, as we know, Joe Dumar has made it very clear that the team is trying to win games. The Pelicans want to go out there and be a contender next year behind Zion Williamson, Trey Murphy, Deontay Murray, Jordan P, Eve Meisi’s like, or Eve Mei. Like, it’s a whole squad that is very, very interesting and does have serious potential. But with all that being said, they could use another actual point guard onto this team. And the perfect situation has just fallen in their lap with this guy right here, Spencer Denwy. As Sham Sherania revealed yesterday that the Charlotte Hornets are waving guard Spencer Denwy, sources tell ESPN. Denwy, an 11-year NBA veteran, signed a one-year deal with the Hornets in July free agency. Charlotte had to release a guaranteed salary ahead of the season opener next week. And Denwy played 27 minutes per game with the Dallas Mavericks, putting up 11 points per game, 2.6 six rebounds and 4.4 assists while getting a steal per game, shooting 41 a.5% from the field, 33% from three, and most importantly, 41.7% on the corner threes. Denwy is a combo guard who can be a lead ball handler and a lead point guard, as we’ve seen him do before in big-time situations. With that in mind, Denwy is someone who makes a ton of sense for the New Orleans Pelicans, who could use another point guard before everything sort of gets going going into this upcoming season. I mean, look, obviously Jordan P is expected to be the starting point guard on opening night, which does make sense. Pool’s coming off a season where in 29 man he put up 20 points, three rebounds, four and a half assists, got a steel, and also shot 43% from the field and 38% from three. He’s an excellent shot creator, excellent scorer, and a very nice player. And I really like the fit that he has with the Pelicans. I just prefer Jordan P as a two guard. I think he’s a combo guard, but I think of him more as an offball, somewhat on ball shooting guard. That is the way that I see Jordan P used the best way. So, when we consider that, we look at the other guys who can play point guard on this team. Now, Deonte Murray, he’ll be the starting point guard when he gets back. He didn’t have an efficient season last year on shooting the ball, only shooting 39% from the field and 30% from three, but he was dealing with injuries all season long. And despite those injuries, he still was able to put up 17 and a half points per game, six and a half rebounds, and seven and a half assists per night while getting two steals doing the DeJonte Murray things that he is always able to do. Outside of that, there’s Jose Alvarado who put up 10 points, two and a half rebounds, four and a half assists, shot 39% from the field and 36% from three. Alvarado is an excellent player, but is he a starting point guard in the NBA? That’s the big question. And we know that Spencer Denwy can play that role. That’s where things get really interesting for me. We look at Spencer Denwy’s advanced numbers and all of them scream that this is the type of guy he want the team. I mean his on ball percentage is at 29% meaning that in an offense he he can have the ball 29% of the time or he does have the ball 29% of the time which is in the 91st percentile meaning that he is a guy who you look at and understand okay he can dominate the ball he can control the tempo he could run in offense and those are all the things that we do want to see him be able to do. He’s good on the points per in the 70 in the 70th percentile for points per game. His turnover ratio is good. Everything we see from him is very good. It’s good to see. Now, the true shooting can be an issue with points because his shooting numbers were not too efficient last year, but being on a Pelicans team that has a lot of scorers is not something that I’m really worried about when it comes to Denwood shooting efficiency. That doesn’t really concern me whatsoever. He’s done a pretty good job. His defensive differential is 1% which is in the better half of the league as well. Meaning he has been a positive defender at some degree. Yeah, his net rating is down. The onoff is down when it comes to defense which is a bit worrisome but at the same time he has been a solid player who can play defense. Now meanwhile we saw him appear in two games with the Charlotte Hornets averaging out 15 minutes a night. He sc he averaged three points, one rebound, I mean or three points and shot that was one for three on on the field goals. I’m not going to lie, I read that wrong. Three points, got one and a half rebounds and one assist per night. He didn’t really He didn’t make any of his shots the first time around. He didn’t shoot too well, only shooting 33% from the field and 0% from three. But it’s two games. I’m not going to crucify him over two games. I don’t see the point of doing that because I don’t think that really matters that much. I don’t think preseason always matters that much. But look, when it comes down to it, we look at the depth chart and like we see that the lineup’s good. Jordan Pool, Herb Jones, Trey Murphy, Zion, Eve Mei, like it’s it’s a good lineup. It is. There’s not a lot of playmaking on it. Herb Jones is as a two guard and he could play the two, the three, the four and guard really all five positions because he’s Herb Jones. I just I I don’t trust him to facilitate the ball or be a ball handler. Trey Murphy I trust to handle the ball. I don’t know if I trust him to be a facilitator. Jordan Pool. I trust him to handle and score the ball like Murphy. I don’t know if I trust him as a facilitator. Zion Williamson’s a very good passer for a power forward, but he’s not a number one facilitator. This is the issue at hand. Without Deontay Murray, the Pelicans don’t have that, and it will be an issue. The Western Conference is good. You can’t have holes in your team in a good Western Conference. It doesn’t work. It’s not going to work. It’s not going to It’s not going to work well long term. They will get figured out no matter what Willie Green does. Now Jeremiah Fears is interesting because he’s a guard. That could be something of use for sure. It could be something of use. I think it will be. And Fears, the man has been doing one thing, not just one thing, really well, but he’s been playing really well. And especially because of one thing, his scoring, which the Pelicans have, and you can never have enough scoring in the NBA. So, I’m not mad about this. I mean, the man’s playing excellent excellent basketball. He’s averaging 16 points per game in this span right now. Shooting 40% from the field. He’s not shooting too well from three at only 20% there. But like the raw numbers are good. The scoring numbers are good, but he’s turning the ball over more than his assist to turnover ratio is negative. I mean, it’s a it’s a nearly three two to three or three to four ratio with the four being the turnovers. Of course, that’s not good. I don’t trust the Pelicans ball handling right now. Not their ball. I don’t trust their facilitating right now. I really don’t. That’s an issue that has to be mitigated going into this season. I don’t know if there’s a team out there that wants to win games that need Spencer Denwy more than the Pelicans. The question is, are the Pelicans going to go for him? I want you guys to answer me that in the comments down below. Like this video, subscribe, turn on post notifications. Have a wonderful weekend, guys. I’ll catch you later.

  1. Dinwiddie is absolutely buns & Dejounte is 29 coming off his worst season then he tore his Achilles after already tearing his ACL earlier in his career. I think Poole’s gonna surprise people by averaging 6 to 7 assists this year
