[Begley] Knicks will waive Garrison Mathews ahead of Saturday’s 5pm deadline, league sources told SNY. Matthews had strong preseason with NY, will draw interest around league from teams looking for shooting. NYK was impressed by Mathews play, but club’s financially restricted by 2nd apron

  1. It is what it is. He wouldn’t have gotten a lot of minutes anyway considering the depth chart in front of him

  2. Barring any last day trades it seems Shamet and Diawara will be the final two players.

  3. this is BS, Matthew’s was the most automatic 3pt shooter during preseason. Shamet is hit or miss, Diawara is still raw. We need a knockdown shooter off the bench and Matthews was that guy.

  4. It’s not a big deal, but this is another reflection of this second apron era and in general….the aprons are used as an excuse. The Knicks have proven they’re willing to spend and make moves to win whereas we see other teams cheap out and blame the second apron or tax. It’s really a broken system, and it hurts veterans like Mathews the most. They’re the ones getting pushed out even though they can still play.

Hope he finds a deal elsewhere, and for Landry, he earned his spot and I like what he brings with his defense too, he’s better on that end than he gets credit for.

  5. Shamet comes off as one of those players who does well in practice but it doesn’t translate. I’m kinda over the experiment tbh, and was rooting for Matthews.
