NHL Highlights | Sharks vs. Mammoth – October 17, 2025
Our match up here at Salt Lake City as the opening face off. The Sharks in the traveling white and a home blue for Utah as the starting lineups brought to you by American Express. And at center looking to move in JJ Purka for the Mammoth. Drop pass Kulie a shot and that gets blocked by Mario Ferraro over the corner. San Jose looking to push it out. Gunther keeps it in for Utah. Give and go. Shot blocked. Zichev getting in deep. Rebound down low and a good point blank chance. Faceoff win for the mammoth. That was a problem for them Wednesday as Calgary won 57% of the draws here. As A Ascarov steers it aside and it goes off the boards and down toward the Utah end of the ice. One thing the Sharks have struggled with, they’ve been getting outshot in all the games they’ve been playing by a large margin. So, some of that is just zone time. They’re on their heels a lot. And the other night against Carolina and the last period and the half, the Hurricanes really turned it up on San Jose, they were outshot 25 to one as Agarov makes a save and a backhand pass toward the slot cleared up by Will Smith for the Shards trying to dig it out behind the net and a turnover. Here is Marino centers. Krauss shot save Ocarov and it’s pushed wide to the net by Caronei. couple. They’re trying to fill those holes and that’s something they’re going to have to address too. Maybe even just from a a Mike Greer situation. Cirachev and a glove save by Ascarov as Kulie went down was tripped up by Orlof. Keller hangs shot and a save Ascarov. And now the way they attacked on the power play. Here is Sergachev. Five on three. Keller for One time score. Nick Schmaltz gets Utah on the board in a power play goal. [Music] [Applause] [Music] What they’re seeing great movement. There’s Nick Schmaltz in that bumper spot right in the middle of the ice. So effective in small areas. Great puck retriever. But watch how he’s moving around to try to find that soft area. Right? He’s everywhere he’s going. He’s looking to see where can I get in the best position to not only receive a pass. 35 seconds left in the man advantage. Schmidt Peturka kicks it to his blade looking for redirection and a backhand lifted high and wide by Krauss. Culie plays it to himself. Centers for Gunther across save. Ascarov. Another point blank chance. This one from Purka. Centering pass Schmallz. It bounces through the slot now at the line. Cole goes off the back glass. Baron Hatton for Utah. Tied up by Orlo. Colin Graph tries to dig it out but a turnover. Small score. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Here’s a look at Nick Schmaltz. And you know, you go back to that battle that we were talking about with San Jose. But this in that battle right there, Utah wins it. Schmaltz is behind the net. He’s down below the goal line and with some help, he comes out with the pop. Orlock tries to block it, but he goes up and over for his second goal of the game. His first two on the season. Through traffic and it just skipped wide shot and a save for Mela. That one coming off the stick of Dehorn. Little bit of pressure now for the Sharks. Good row is to fourth line and a big hit behind the net. San Jose did push back those final five, six minutes. I’m anxious to see how they respond here to start the second. Part of this deeper defense core that Utah has this year. Twoon developing. Tanv top of the circle driving. Shot saved by Ascarov. He has been very impressive. What? You can see Tanv is trying to get it around this sliding Dickinson there. Sharks are averaging just one shot per power play so far this season. Third lowest in the league. Here is to Foley kicking it to a stick. Ecklund off to the wing. Here is Smith at the line for Orlam. Sets it up. Keys it up. Club saved and a score off the rebound. Tyler to Foley and the Sharks are on the board. That is exactly what the Sharks needed. They take that power play. They they lose the zone once. They come back in pretty easily. Good zone entry by them. This season are struggling with that zone entry and then it’s a big blast from the point with that net front presence. And toi I mentioned him early got in a little bit tight in this one. He was in a perfect position. Right shot on that side. And that’s an easy tap in goal for Tyler Tofoley. Right place, right time. Here is Celrini winning the battle. Skinner in the corner. That can’t pass toward the slot. It’s in. Score. The Sharks have tied the game. Seemed like a harmless play from the corner. Two goals within a minute 50. And we’re not at a two. And it looks like it could be Jeff Skinner getting the goal. He The puck’s up high. He thinks he’s all alone. He completely loses Jeff Skinner down low. He doesn’t know that he that there’s even a player down there and he’s standing flatfooted. That puck ends up going in front. I I would have thought it might have been Celerini, but it looks No. Yeah, it’s off the defenseman. That’s a Ian Cole’s been out there a while. A long change, too. If you get stuck out there, it’s it’s tougher. Agar turns it over. Score. Liam O’Brien. 3-2 Utah [Music] [Applause] into the lineup on that fourth line. Ascroof. I just talked about how confident I thought he was handling the puck, but he does not handle that one. Coming off the wall, coming off that dasher, goes off his skate and there’s no support. But you know what? That’s great play by number 38. Liam O’Brien goes in. You never’s got He’s got an elite shot whether it’s a wrist shot that one-time. It’s It’s good. Now driving the net. Backhand in front trying to jam it in for the hattick. the splits and Ascarov hangs on as he goes to could protect this. Got Gunther who comes back in a beautiful set there and then all alone in front. Schmaltz looking for the hattick and look at Ascarov. He is full. He keeps that left skate spread out to towards the the post to try to cover on the the ground. Look at that around here. When they announced the team, he came right out and now it’s on the microphone. Call me Spicy Tuna. And ever since then, the people around here have embraced him as a Keller tips it in. Couple of goals for Schmaltz. O’Brien right now. The difference his goal in this game center score the hattick [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] San Jose and then it’s Nick Small. It’s a beautiful play here. Again, the puck comes from down low. This is like his second goal, too, where it’s a good work down low. They take advantage of a broken defensive zone play. Watch San Jose. They leave so much space. There are three guys around Schmaltz. No. Iorio hustling back cross for Ferraro. And the for check from Krauss creating an opportunity here for Utah. Cari scores. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] keep coming back. They weren’t able to get out of their zone cleanly and then they finally take it there. San Jose was not able to take advantage of that and keep pinning it in their end. Carone comes in on that for check originally puts pressure on. You can see stick handles the p the puck not once, not twice. He’s able to get a clean look. Both teams changing. Here is Hayden into the zone. Keller the drop pass. Vaults across. Keller score. First of the season. 62 Utah. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] How you do it. That is how you draw it up. It is a beautiful play and again you get the San Jose Sharks running a little bit but Utah takes advantage. That is pinpoint passing stick to stick and they’re going across the middle twice. It came over to Schmaltz. Schmaltz looked like he was going to shoot and they and the San Jose Sharks big passing but a lot of movement with their feet and they were able to generate not necessarily shots on goal but certainly a chance. Here’s Wenberg into the zone. Celbrini walking into the slot. Shot score. Mlin celebr his first of the season. And a power play goal for the Sharks. Their second power play tally tonight. 63 Mammoth. Are still down. They know they want more here than a 6-3 score, which is what they’re looking at with three minutes left. But talk about some of the the the building of this, right? The passing coming around and Celibbrini finds the puck high in the slot and it’s Wenberg. Yeah. Who takes the the eyes away. Watch him. number 21 in white. He stands there. He sticks up and he’s he’s trying to get out and take that momentum and run with it and come away with a very substantial win here. Six to three at home. Final seconds have ticked off. [Music]
Nick Schmaltz netted a hat trick and added an assist as Clayton Keller scored and had three assists to power the Utah Mammoth to a 6-3 win over the San Jose Sharks.

Spicy Tuna is my spirit animal
But but but Gary said there would no empty seats in Utah…
0:11 Ah yes, the famous Utah home blue—also known as the color black.
Utah scored some really nice goals this game, good highlights
If you’re a goaltender TEND THE GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!! 5:45
Let’s go Mammoth!!! Schmaltz with the hat trick was huge!
Trading a first round prospect and a first round pick and and a 3rd round pick for the unproven Askarov would have made a lot more sense had the sharks roster been actually good enough to play team defense. Goalies in general do not matter until the whole team is good. Sergei Bobrovsky only won 1 round in the playoffs in 7 years on the jackets as some proof to my point. It is like having a quarterback with no offensive line makes the quarterback less important.
I am not ready to call askarov a bust as this is his first full season in the NHL to show his skills but there was no reason for Grier to give so much for him without the rest of the team being better. Nash fans should be smiling the sharks gave so much.
Why is Michael Misa not playing?
Tuna Sandwich with no crust
NHL goalies are pathetic
I hate how UTAH is in the score line and not UTH or something.
Wooly Mammoth
That flexibility was actually so impressive. Pushing off while doing full splits by askarav
В этом матче трусливая Селебринька пряталась за спиной одноклубников.Жаль Симашев хорошенько не избил мудака
The Mammoth have become one of my favorite teams. They’re going to surprise some people this year and it feels like it’s time for a Mammoth jersey. Is it blue or black? When the broadcaster said Home Blue Jersey I had to call my son into the room, he said black too, lol.
this was my first mammoth game i’ve attended. will not be my last. what a game!
Hola chica 5:22
Interesting both goalies in this game both catch right, very rare.
Georgiev at Sharks net
Woolly Bully should be the goal song for the Mammoth….the woolly mammoth.
Utah building a wagon. Sharks need to get Celebrini involved more and call more plays for him. And where is Michael misa?
Sharks didn't have 1 clip in the first video until one of the players gets absolutely hammered 😭😭
Капец Аскарову не везет ,хороший же вратарь ,но оборона дыра
defense continues to be really bad….at least Celebrini had a good game. Starting to wonder if we should send Askarov down to the Cuda for a while for him to gain his confidence back…
Another highlight from a San Jose goalie
As a sharks fan. I don't know what else to expect at this point.
