Edmonton Oilers: They LOOK Serious
Hey friends, this is Dolan TV aboard for a big time game today. Game one of the ALCS for the Toronto Blue Jays against the Seattle Mariners. Man, that whole series is just going to be home games for the Blue Jays. Hey, that’s going to be beautiful. That said, that we’ll see what the Mariners do about ticket sales. Okay, we need not talk about the Blue Jays Mariners too much more. We’ve already spent two shorts on it this morning. How about them Edmonton Oilers? Normally that’s a negative for us, but uh how about this one? 75% of the possible points through two games achieved for the Oilers despite sub 900 goalending combined between Picks and Stu. Yes, you can make your complaints about that how you want, but obviously last night an effort a 3-1 victory that gets the Oilers two points in the column. And suddenly, like I said, had we won that game against Calgary, the narrative would have been much different. the narrative very much so writed by the Oilers last night with the win over Vancouver. There’s some stuff, some disciplinary stuff that came out of it. I’m going to unpack all that, but let’s start this by saying simply the Oilers look serious. I am saying this is probably the best, hottest, fastest start we’ve seen, at least in recent memory out of the Oilers, given, you know, there were a lot of questions about are they too young, are they this, that, and the other thing. And what we got to keep in mind is three lineup regulars. Now, Walman, I guess, is newish to that whole role, but between Yanmark, Heyman, and Walman, we’ve got three big regular contributors out of the lineup right now, and we’re still producing a 75% points percentage. Again, as I said in the Steuart Skinner video, it’s easy to nitpick when things aren’t going your way and sit here and say that is bad, that player is terrible, whatever. And again, it’s very easy to gloat when you’re winning as well. So, take everything with a grain of salt, would you? Again, I’m not sitting here saying the Oilers are going to win the Stanley Cup because they’ve gotten three out of four points. That’s not the idea. Yes, the Oilers will win the Stanley Cup. That’s my bold proclamation for the year. But hey, hold on here. We got work to do yet. And we’ll discuss all about how the Oilers look serious, what’s got to improve, and where we’re headed next here in today’s video. Friends, thanks for being aboard. Appreciate you hanging out here on Dolly TV today. If you are new to the channel, again, I’m going to stress this. Consider hitting that subscribe button. Would love to have you aboard. As a regular viewer, it’s easy and free to subscribe. Nice and simple. Again, get it done. Gets you the videos that much quicker. You can click on the notifications if you want to find out when I post immediately. Uh, not that you do because I’m a little annoying right now with the Blue Jays. So, stay tuned. All right, let’s get to it. The early results, right? I’m sitting here saying it’s easy to gloat about victories. Well, after two games, you’re 10 and one. Sitting in the third in the Pacific this morning. Who cares? I After about 10 games, I’ll care where we are in the standings. 3.0 goals per game. That is the big marker. I’m looking at the 2.0 goals against average. It is what it is. You’ve given up four goals in two games. Hey, I’m glad for it. We still have sub 900 goalending, but you know, when the Oilers have sub 900 goalending, we tend to have issues winning and getting points. That’s not the case early on here. That’s good. That’s great. One goalie a different story. The other goalie a different story. Again, way too early to tell. The power play clipping along at 22.2%. That’ll improve substantially given what we’ve seen once Hyman’s back. And the penalty kill operating at 83 almost 83 and a half is a big time win for this Edmonton Oilers team. That said, you’ve played Calgary and Vancouver. Two bubble teams this year for the playoffs. I say I’ve got Calgary in. I’m wanting Vancouver in as well because that just ups the chances. The Oilers play at least one of them, but again, still bubble teams. So, that’s where we sit after two games. We’re not going to get too excited, not going to get too low. Like I said, the Steuart Skinner video the other day was not about Stuart Skinner over us overreacting to Stew after one bad gaff in game one. No, it’s a broad look at this is a three-year history and this is a big year. So, there’s going to be some judgment made. Ryan Rashog was on Oilers now the next day talking about how the Oilers management will approach the Stew Skinner thing. So don’t say I’m flipping the script here. I’m very well aware of where I’ve been and what I’ve said. Noah Phelps first career goal last night. That was a big time achievement for him, a big time achievement for the Edmonton Oilers. A win in the development prospect pool. And what you got to remember here is no had a very fascinating journey. um somewhat faster track but similar to one Derek Ryan being a UFA Golden Bear, being through the ringer of some professional hockey before making the NHL, earning his stripes uh and getting up to the NHL and obviously being an impact player in a bottom six role for the Edmonton Oilers. Pictured here is Patrick. You all know who Patrick is. Patrick’s video this morning, a good summary, I’m sure. Um I’ve just been all over the place this morning, so pardon me. You’ll have to watch that when I get going. Patrick, now you know the truth. Uh, but yes, Patrick texted me this morning all his pictures from down there at Rogers Place. Him and Russ had a great night there again. Uh, obviously Patrick’s been sporting the Noah Phelp phone case for a little while here and it is a fantastic time to see that picture there. There’s more obviously as well. If you go check out Patrick’s social media stuff, uh, he might be the first owner of a signed Isaac Howard uh, alternate jersey. Just saying. That’s a pretty cool achievement as well. All right, let’s move on as we go to why we were talking about Noah Phelp in the first place and why I’m saying the Oilers are serious. What we’ve seen is a faster, more aggressive, more on the puck, more determined Edmonton Oilers squad. You know, you always get that from Leon and Connor, but it just seems like the entire Oilers attack is out there to cause damage. And you know, you ran into possibly the two best goalenders in the Pacific Division in games one and two in David Wolf and Thatcher Demco. Now Demco, that remains to be seen because he’s barely played 35 plus games the last whatever few uh seasons. So bear with us. We’ll see what Demco does. I know what Wol is capable of doing, but uh early results scoring six goals. Granted, one was an empty netter in the first two games very much to like. And what you see here is a bunch of guys contributing, right? I don’t think you see Conor McDavid’s name there. Hold on. I’m gonna have to double check if I’m missing something in my thing, but uh if I’m being honest with you, I don’t think Conor Oh, yeah. I did miss Conor McDavid at Wow. Hold on. Brutal, brutal graphic save there. Um, for some reason that didn’t have Conor McDavid at the top of the list when I first cut it. So Conor McDavid’s also got three points. I was going to say Connor’s been lighting up the score sheet just as much as trying Newton Hopkins. Okay, so Sportsnet screwing up the stats aside. Uh Miaoni’s had points, you know. Bod Coulson has a point. Thomasek has a point. Uh you’ve got you’ve got Nurse Captain Phelp all in there with a point. Yeah. Okay, some minus twos and stuff too, but at least they’re contributing some points. And what you’re seeing here is a grand total of eight players on six goals having points early in the Oilers season. Normally, you know, it’s Leon Connor Bousard. That would be who would only have points. Maybe one random guy scored a short-handed goal like Yanmark or something to start the year. Uh but that’s that’s it. So to have eight guys with points early on in the season, nine. Sorry for getting McDavid was cut out for some reason on SportsNet earlier. Um, so nine guys with points early on in this campaign. That’s absolutely fantastic from an Edmonton Oilers standpoint. Um, you know what, the shots look good. Really, the only player on the Oilers roster that’s played a game so far. Obviously, it’s been the same crew without a shot is Brett Kulak. So, you know, that’s fine and dandy. I’m liking where we’re at. I’m liking what we’re doing here. The ice times you see there for the Oilers, McDavid’s playing 25 and a half minutes a night. That’s not good, but I think the Oilers know what they’re doing here given that Leon and Connor also played some overtime minutes. Um it it looks fantastic, right? This this is a positive. The Oilers are serious and they’re getting contributions from other guys. That’s the point of that graphic. And I appreciate the fact that you know what, we are seeing the effort we are seeing. It’s a much different looking team than the past two starts. McDavid winning the battle against Meyers last night. Again, McDavid takes a stick in a place he never wanted to take a stick, especially from a guy who’s six foot bajillion. And you know, he ends up Tyler Myers does find by player safety. Conor McDavid kind of gets him back with a little bit of a cross check to the arm as the play continues and doesn’t face any supplemental discipline for that. So, Conor McDavid, you know, learns from last year’s mistake. Again, I loved it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a mistake all day. But hey, Connor, getting out there and showing the Vancouver Conucks who’s boss. I’m good with that as the NHL has cracked down substantially over the past two, three years on the cross checks to the face. But Tyler Myers, you know, getting Conor McDavid between the legs there ain’t too good. And at least he faces some kind of discipline. Again, nothing would have been terrible. Something is at least a win for Conor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers out of this. So now we look forward to what’s ahead for the Oilers. You’ve got 75% of your points on sub 900 goalending, right? You’ve got 33 saves on 37 shots so far. A good performance by either Stewart picks against the Rangers will again put this team on a little bit of a high being 2011 to start the year if that is how the 500 p.m. game October 14th plays out for the Edmonton Oilers against the Rangers. Then you have a day off the 16th the Islanders day off the 18th the Devils day off the or sorry day on the Detroit Red Wings. Oo two afternoon games. So, what is that? Next weekend. That’s Yeah, that’s got to be next weekend. Sorry. October 18th, Saturday, Sunday against the Red Wings. So, 1:30 against the Devils, 1:00 on Sunday against the Red Wings. I think I still won’t get a live stream in there. We might have to live stream the Islanders after the second period or so. And then the 21st, we get the Ottawa Senators. So basically for the foreseeable 10 days from here on out, the Oilers are on the road before coming home against the Montreal Canadians. Again, I I think an achievable goal here would be 22 and one, right? You’ve already got a win. You’ve already got an overtime loss. So if you end up 32 and two after a fiveame road trip out of seven games, not the worst case. Like I said, I want to judge this Oilers team after 10 games given at least first 10, first five out of 10 will be on the road here in this section road trip. So, you know, if you can manage a total of 10 points out of the first seven games, that’s given how the Oilers typically start a season, that’s a win. I think there is a lot of possibility to have four wins by the end of this road trip, if not five. Right. the Islanders, the Red Wings, the Senators, those are games you’re looking at winning. You find a game to win against the Devils or Rangers, and suddenly the script is looking really good for the Oilers. And you know what? The way they’re playing against Calgary and Vancouver again, I know Shurken, I know Sroen’s in New York and New York. I know New Jersey is probably a bit softer. So too is the Detroit, depending if you get a hot Gibson or not. maybe a hot talent and Ottawa coin flip as well. But I I think there’s some strong possibility there if you don’t face the level of goalending the Oilers did against Wolf and of course Demco and they sustain the attack they’ve had outside of one game on the backtoback against the Red Wings and Devils in the afternoon games. You probably finish this road trip 4-1 and you are looking at a real pretty start to the year where you’re 51 and one out of the gate, right? That’s a possibility for the Oilers. But does it happen? I don’t know. So, we’ll stay tuned. But like I’m saying friends, every single result we’ve seen, and I mean you can be as mad at Steu as you want, he was still excellent at various subsections of that game against the Flames. So, you know, things look pretty good here. Things are looking good. And like I said, you win that game against Calgary, the script is completely different for the next 48 hours. We had two days off to talk about things. So that didn’t help the fiasco that is the Oilers goending. But Pickard, as he usually does, picks up his buddy in net, comes out with a good performance. And hey, you know what? It’s good enough to win 3-1 with an empty net. and the Oilers suddenly are averaging three goals a game to start the season with playing two instead of just one. And you know, you are off to a much more positive start. No matter what, you have got half the points you possibly could in the first three games, even if the next game’s a loss. You win the next one, we’re looking real good. You win the next one after that. Like I said, you go four and one on this road trip. And we’re talking about a team that could very well win the President’s Trophy. But first, we got to get there. We got to get the job done. New York on Tuesday. Then we’ll start talking as we start outlining what this first 10 games of the season is going to look like for the Edmonton Oilers. For right now though, friends, thanks for being aboard. I hope you like how serious the Oilers look about winning as I do. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below. Again, if you are new to the channel, consider hitting that subscribe button here on Dolly TV. Like, like I said, love for you to do that. Go check out the Oilers fanatic while you have a chance this morning as well on a sleepy Thanksgiving Sunday where half the province seems to have snow. And as well, there’s three videos here to choose from. Well, two playlists and three videos, but lots to get to as the Blue Jays take on the Mariners at 6:08 Mountain time for the ALCS. I’d love to have you aboard checking out the postgame short or the postgame video for that as well. For right now though, I am up on out of here.
The Edmonton Oilers come out of two big rivalry games looking rather serious about winning this season. Will we see that continue as they hit the road for a five gamer out east?

Mcdavid and Ekholm are 100% leading this team by taking less money. Much respect.
Until Skinner gets between the pipes
Regula's looked good.
Finally seeing some of that maturity that everyone talked about last year.
CHANGE the first line winger to the 3/4th line where he belongs and play skill with skill.
Darnell Nurse played a near perfect game last night.
2nd game in lol
they look serious but still goaltending questions and i think they should just pass more that will get er done
I'd like to see Edmonton trade Janmark and Josh Brown to open up room 4 the new guys
19th in Goals … 11th in PP … how are they serious?
What's up Tyson?? Long time, man!! How u been?? Nice bounce back from the Oil after the tough loss(they got a point via shootout). They got secondary scoring with the stars being involved & did a better defending which lessened the stress on Pickard. Speaking of goalies, I think this will be it 4 Stu in Oil colors whether it's middle or end of season. The vitriol directed towards him & his family because of his shortcomings tells me he would be better off in a different market where hockey isn't the top focus.
So how you call hooking Jr. and the Twins trying to make them a Unicorn Horn with swollen eyebrows that is a Match penalty that even a linesman can call yet all refs missed a slash is a mystery to me. BTW, yes, I want you to visualize what I typed. Think about it. Happy Thanksgiving and Take Care All.
Oh, yeah, I know, my sense of humour is evil (or borderline offensive and I frequently cross the border). Yesterday was my sister's birthday. I got her 1KG of Sour Gummies. My rationale was that they say Age is a Number. Weight is a Number too and being a helpful brother I thought that it would make it easier on her aging Brain and with the gummies expanding circumference (she's older than I am) to remember if her Age and Weight matched. I know, it's Brothers like me that make you wish you were an only child.
The only thing stopping them is Murphy’s Law.
Whens wallman back ? We need this solid defenceman back
Skinner plays for rangers
Pickard starts for islanders
And skinner starts for new jersey devil's and Detroit.
Pickard starts Ottawa
How many Connor’s do you need to win a cup?? We had Conner McD & Connor Brown last few years. Now, we have a new Connor named Connor Ingram. So we need all the Connor’s we can get!!!
Pickard 0.93 sv% last game so, skinner dragging team below 90 average sv%?
They look serious, but they just can’t shoot really. The majority of their shots were a bust, absolutely nothing. They only made Demko look like a genius, but honestly, with shooting like that, every goalie out there breaks records against Edmonton. Something is seriously wrong, and it’s been going on for way too long. Edmonton needs around 40 shots just to score two goals — again, and again, and again. They looked great, their plays were great, but their shooting is just terrible.
Just imagine if they had a real #1 goalie
Edmonton has been to the finals the past 2 consecutive seasons. They had their chance. Time for some new blood in the finals.
Go Mariners!!
Wow so impressed NOT this may work for awhile but ultimately it will not work out in the end YET AGAIN. Unless they get some REAL goaltending
