Jordan 411 Ep. 61 Winnipeg Jets Trending Up Blue Bombers Trending Down — Winnipeg Sports Update 2025

And now the star of the show, Jordan Ragazinski. Um, well, my first thing is bombers are eight and eight. That’s horrible. that absolutely horrible. I know the whole league wants to fail, but in a breakup year, it’s actually embarrassing and Kyle Walter should be ashamed of himself um for um um letting this roster get on the field. How how the how the fact that you let Kenny Lawler go for injured Dalton Shone again doesn’t make sense to me. And Willie Jefferson, you’ve done nothing all year. That one game he done something but nothing all year. The whole D line really done nothing. And that uh rush free uh drop eight doesn’t work anymore cuz obviously or D unless their D line’s bad. But I think just in general this whole team’s bad and good luck and if we make the playoffs it could be a short ride and if it’s not then prove me wrong on my prove me wrong on my rank. Yeah. And I’ll I’ll add to that. Um, Zakaros has been very inconsistent this year and then they go and sign him to another year. Like I just it boggled my mind, you know, he going to be he’s old already. Like is it the case that have we hung on to these guys too long? Are they out to the pasture, you know? Yep. Sorry, Dad. I I’m staying very quiet because I think the bar is a door of the gray trap. I I really do. Oh well. If they cross over to the east, they have a chance. But if they go through the west, I don’t know. No. Here here’s my opinion, guys. And welcome to the show. We the whole intro just went out out out the uh down the sewer. But um here’s here’s my thing, guys. We lost 2520. Yeah, we had a freak play happen with that punt fumble. Guy on the end picks it up and runs it back. We had a third and two, but we were victimized on by Justin Rankin. Yeah, the interceptions are going to happen. If you look at the one interception, that’s not on. Yeah. Yeah. Dempsey pops his hamstring and stops running. You can see him grab the hamstring. Yeah, it’s frustrating. It’s not what Bomber Nation had in mind given the last four years. Yeah. But I’m here to tell you, Friday against the Riders is a new day. A win in any remaining two games or an Edmonton loss. They are in. Edmonton is playing BC this week. Who has a lot to play for? Yeah, the Bombers are going to the playoffs. I’d rather have this lost now than in the playoffs. Do I like the Bombers chances against what I think is going to be Hamilton based on what I saw this weekend? Yes, I do. Do I like what I saw against the the the Bombers? Yeah, when they played Hamilton two weeks ago with a healthy loss. Absolutely. Then you take your chances in Montreal who I think they didn’t win the East division this year. Um Montreal to me there’s a lot of inconsistent yesterday. I have a quarterback that uh you know hasn’t lost the team but he started yet in Davis. There’s still one headtohead left with Montreal. Yeah, we were right there when we put I believe it or not we actually beat them in the one game. Uh, we did. Yeah, we did. Yeah. Yeah. So guys, like like hope is not lost. Like if if I I know you want to just call for everybody’s head, but like let’s settle down. Like there’s no guarantee that a healthy Daltton shown changes the scenario. In fact, I I would argue that a healthy Dalton shown and Wilson is in here. Yeah. And to to be honest, guys, Kenny Lawler was injured the last two years on the sits game. He’s What has he done lately? Not very much. Yeah. I don’t Yeah. I if you take out the first five five games where Lawler and Boly by Mitchell were lighting the world on fire and going for 10,000 yards. It’s going to be okay. If we make the Gray Cup, great. If we don’t, great. It’s been five years of Gray Cups, two championships. Yes, disappointed one way or another. But D, we should have known it was coming when you’re playing Cody Bardo. Like Pardo got the bomber number ever since he hit the goal post. So I mean that that great cup Montreal is the one that really um sticks in my but here’s the thing. The Bombers have set such a high standard for themselves, but eight and eight feels like the sky is falling. Yeah, I’m here to tell you it’s not. Hamilton is 10 and seven. Montreal’s nine and seven. We’re we’re in that general area. Yes, BC looks scary. Yes, Calgary, you know, went into Hamilton and and and beat them up pretty badly. But guys, you got to remember that the nucleus at this core of Winnipeg Blue Bombers has won games when it counts. Yeah. Yeah. All of the frustration aside of what has happened in the first 16 games, November, get in. Anything can happen. I like this team when push comes to shove. Will they win? Hopefully. Should they win? probably based on their experience. Will they win? Don’t know. But I’ll tell you what, this is a team that will find it when it when it matters the most. And I have every ounce that that is going to happen and that that is going to happen uh through the East division. Yeah. No, for sure. Yeah, I think the crossover is the best bet. Um what do we think about uh Lak Callo? some of his throws he made against Edmonton throwing right to the guy. I mean, the Dempseky one, yeah, maybe he stopped running cuz he pulled his hamstring, but the other one was right to the guy. Like, I wonder though, is it the O line? Like, is their Dline getting enough of a push where he can’t see downfield? And the other thing that kind of sticks in my about what Jordan said about Willie Jefferson, I don’t believe Willie Jefferson to be ineffective. I think they’ve just changed the scheme more from a manto man from a pass rush. So you notice the Bombers as a whole, they don’t get a lot of sats. There are a lot of, you know, seven or eight DBs rushing the temple and when they get sats, they tend to watch their opponents walk into them, right? It’s not like I think we’re so used to bomber teams bringing so much pressure that it was almost like a thing of the past about like you bring so much pressure you leave the back end exposed. Yeah. Yeah. Now now now you’ve kind of flipped that notion around. Um Yeah. Is it is it the way that you know a lot of defenses play? Not necessarily. Right. cuz everybody likes the razzledazzle and the pressure and you know it’s cool to see the quarterback go down on a sack every third play. Um but that I think that there’s just a new way to play football here and I and listen I I think the Bombers are two pieces away from being a very very good football team next year. Uh this is another loss that is like less than seven points. the Calgary walk-off uh included. They were in both games in against the Riders. They, you know, you make the argument they should have won on Labor Day. They could have won the Banjo Bowl. Yeah. What a could have should have. Like I mean, come on. It feels like the Riders have lost four games and it feel they feel like the sky is falling because they’re not, you know, well, they’re not blowing teams out, right? And and I mean I I have concerns about Trevor Harris. Um his ability to produce down the stretch as the games get bigger. Uh I still think they’re on the back of their defense a little bit too much. And and we’ll see, right? It’s one game. It’s a West final in Regina. It’s an Eastern final either in Hamilton or in Montreal. Wait, if it was ever a year for a crossover, it’ be now. And if there’s ever a team that can do it, it might be the team in the middle because everybody said, “Oh, travel to the east. Never been done before.” Well, people forget. I remember days when the Bombers were in the East division and they did pretty well. So, yeah. Uh, you were talking about, Michael, we are one, two pieces away. What do you think? one or two pieces is. And no, I I think you got to revamp that offensive line a little bit. I think I think time has passed on some of these people. Uh not going to name names, but there there’s been consistencies. There’s been inconsistency over there. Um I I feel a half second longer in a lot of cases gives Colossus a clear pocket. Um, now Jeremy to pit on something you said, I think the Bombers had to give the extra year. I don’t think you want a lame duck quarterback in the last year of his contract just like the lame duck coach, you know, is he going to be back? Is he not going to be back? Because listen, I think that’s irrelevant. I think if Zack decides to retire this off season, that’s going to happen and the last year of the last year of the contract means nothing. I think it’s just a matter of you don’t want a quarterback in the last year of his contract to have to answer the questions all year long. Much like the Winnipeg Jets, hey, what’s going to happen with Tana? What’s going to happen with Adam Lowry? Blah blah blah. Right. So, you you put the you put the the ending sort of you put the contract to rest. Now, whether Coloss comes back or not, I have launched it, but I feel this is Coloss. Yeah. it. My personal opinion was always after Obamas hosted Ray Cup, but you you never know. You absolutely never know. And then, you know, I I just to me like it’s absolutely But by the way, in 16 games in, but they have not used Brady Alivera more. Um yeah, you know, when he runs, he does he does five to 10 yards, you know, every single time. Um to put that on on Zaros to me is a little bit of a uh it’s a little bit of a disservice I think. Um and you know what people just say right his interceptions athletic punts right that he throws them so deep and then basically near the near the end they did intercepted. Uh but the counter argument is is that they take points off the field uh points off the board uh three or six. So, you know, it’s all hope lost in Bomber Bomberland. No, and you can call me naive, but again, this team has a track record, the core of which is together, but knows how to do it when it counts. And and this is just a different weight to the Gray Cup. I mean, put put ourselves in their shoes. This this week in 2019, the Bombers have about the same record and we’re getting ready for a blue bomber debut as nobody knows what’s going to happen and And here we are. He has that one game against Calgary where he looks dazzling and then, you know, he throws that touchdown at the back of the end zone spinning and spinning and running around and and and the rest is history. And you guys know exactly which way I’m talking about. It’s like, yeah, oh yeah, we have a quarterback to throw the ball like like what is the alternative? It’s clear the Bombers have no other alternative. I I I fully believe that the the the next play here is Taylor Alisma. Um next year to push, but fact of the matter is he’s not here right now. Um there’s a large percentage of people that feel that Dustin Crumb should be the next quarterback here. Um I I I to get behind that. I know uh Ryan has said that to me publicly on the football countdown as well as privately. Um, you know, Dustin Crumb being an option last night notwithstanding. Um, but again, it’s you got to be in it to win. I I didn’t this CFL is so wide open this year. Everybody’s so close record wise, you know. Yeah, the Bombers have five losses to uh to uh Calgary and Saskatchewan, but you know, they have three losses to the rest of the league. notwithstanding this last week and yeah, you know, the Toronto game you could put it right to, but they shouldn’t have lost that game given where the Ardos are. But you know what? You you you’re going to win, you’re going to lose, and and your margin for error for the Bombers is is much thinner than it used to be. Yeah. No, for sure. I’ll just say one thing. Uh Jason Hogan frustrates the hell out of me. Like third and four and he he’s throwing the ball deep. And then the last play of the game, why not throw a Hail Mary? Maybe draw a pass interference. No, he runs the ball. I don’t know. His his play calling and decision making just frustrates me to no end. And how about a backup quarterback going into next year? That would be a good thing, too. Yeah. Improved O line, improved Dline, and backup quarterback. Yeah, those would be the three areas. Well, let’s switch to the Jets, eh? Yeah. Yeah, they look good. They look good. Yeah. Let’s start with the first home opener against Dallas. They won uh or no, they lost uh 54. They came back in the end. Kyle Connor got a hat-tick. Yeah. And uh penalty trouble in that game caused them to lose. The the one that made me really happy was yesterday’s game. Yeah, for sure. Um, now you see the depth scoring coming through and Tanner Pearson. I mean, I that you guys like the eyes at the back of his head there to make the pass to Pearson. Um, yeah. Like I was talking to somebody, they said that’s 100% intentional that pass. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He has no angle so he outweights the goalie and then he passes it and then Yeah, that was totally Yeah, that was a good good smart play by Nether Rider. Yeah. Yeah. And then Nino Nino gets the goal yesterday too. Um I follow um the one that I’m kind of waiting to to to uh to sort of come on as Dus Nyquist. I I don’t know where he where he fits on this team right now, but yeah, I I was very happy with Eric Comry yesterday. That was uh Yeah, hell of a performance. Yeah. And then the three shots in the opening 20 seconds like weighty weighty buddy, there you know. Yeah, but no, it just seems like it takes the Jets 10 minutes to get into the game and then they start they start to suppress their shots less and less and then and then so yeah, it’s not it’s I think the Jets are still going to be finishing third. I I and again, you know, we’re doing this without Berfetti. We’re doing this without Lowry, you know, we’re doing this without uh Dylan Samber had a lot, but Oh, yeah. Can I talk about the games that Loen Stanley has had lately? Yeah, I know. These might be those might be three of the best games I’ve seen Logan Stanley put together. And that’s not even a word of exaggeration. Um I I’s been really good. I mean just that physical presence. Um that intimidation factor yesterday. Um it was the LA game where they wanted nothing to do with him and and you know he delivers the hit and Shen comes over and says you know you you didn’t have to deal with me and Malot and Shen go at it and Yeah. Yep. You know, for for Logan, I think it’s about putting consistent efforts together, but he needs time and and space to be able to develop. Yep. Do you have anything, Jordan? The fact that he got a goal, I was amazed. Yeah. And then there’s people that say, “Oh, you know, the goalie should have stopped the goal.” Well, the fact of the matter is he didn’t. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And and that they’ve loaned in some confidence and hey, you you you did a save but you can’t score a goal. The goal you should have stopped it. Stop. Yeah. Fact of the matter. You didn’t you’re devaluing the player for getting the putt to the net. Yeah. No. And then uh Kyle Connor and Mark Shley are sure on a roll to start the year. Yep. Yeah. No, it’ll be an exciting year for the Jets though. They’re two and one so far. Oh, I really noticed Jonathan Taz though and not so much the speed and the but his smarts like on the ice smarts. I love when he like waits to like pass the puck and he doesn’t get rid of it too fast. Um, I really noticed that part of the game. And he did get a a first point to the Jet in the New York Islander game, so that was good. Yeah. No, Jonathan Davis looked really good. Yeah, I agree with you, Jordan. I noticed his hockey smarts. You can tell he played with some really good players because he sure knows what he’s doing. He doesn’t force anything. If it’s not there, he skates around and he waits for the pass. Yep. where, you know, a guy like Connor might force it and then it’s a turnover or a guy like Logan Stanley. I almost fainted when Logan Stanley scored. I was like, “Oh my god.” Like, “What the heck?” Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Know, it’s uh it’s interesting. And I’m curious now with um Hayden Flurry’s dayto day. Um that to me, I’m no doctor, but it looks like a deep bone bruise. That’s that that’s to me that’s to me what it looks like. There’s the there’s suspicion online that it’s uh uh broken knee tap. He wouldn’t be watching if he had a broken knee tap. No. Yeah, he wouldn’t be um I’ve had a displaced knee tap. That’s not fun. Fell when I used as a kid and my whole knee tap. Oh yeah. Just awful. Um but no um that’s sort of um so yeah hatayen Floyd didn’t be dayto-day it’s it’s made loaden a top four defenseman um the one thing I wish they did away from it that sh that Stanley Shen third pair um I mean it’s a little too slow but again you know better limited I I was worried about the Stanley Peon pairing But it did okay. Yeah, it it did okay. And then you could always later on in the game, like if you if you’re chasing the game, you could put uh Dlo and and Stanley together and then then run more CP onto your top two if you had to and you’re chasing the game. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. So, so there there’s options there. The interesting part is uh Tail Clyde was the co-op and not Billy Han. Um yeah, I I I think that’s the fact that they want Hanola to just play James right now. He hasn’t played a lot. Um but no, neither here nor there. I I I I believe the Moose will have a very good team this year. Um you guys notice that we put a more emphasis at blocking shots as a team? Yeah, three games we blocked a lot. You want to take that question, Jeremy, that I I have an answer for that, but I want I want to see what you have to say. Yeah, I’ve definitely noticed um more emphasis on it, guys getting in the shot lane, blocking it. Um yeah, I think they want to, you know, I mean, if they can limit as much chances as they can, that’s good, you know, and uh you know, less goals is better, you know, cuz any shot could be a goal, but if you can block it, it it won’t be a goal, right? It’s less shots for your goal to stop. So, it’s good. Blocking shots is a part of hockey. Good defensive hockey. It hurts though. But Oh, it hurts like a son of a gun. But it can sing. But it’s uh part of the game, part of the sacrifice. Yeah. Yep. Do you want to go ahead, Michael? Yeah. Yeah. No, I um what one thing I was going to say was uh um sorry here. Um what I was going to say was I was very I completely lost my train of thought. Um but blocking shots. Sorry, blocking shots. Oh, blocking shots. Yeah. No, I think that’s a byproduct of the opponents that you play. Like LA forces you into a lot of shot suppression. Um, Islanders have really changed their identity lately. Um, they used to be this 21 clamp it down um, kind of thing, but now they’ve gone into a bit of a loose end defensive give up four goals a game. They’re more offensive. Um, I know in the past it would be try to win two to one, three to two, four to three. Um, I have some concerns about the Islanders. They’re not They’re not I I realize it’s three games in, but they’re not what they were defensively um last year. Last year, even years gone by um you know, they’re defensively intimidating. Like you give up the first two goals against them and, you know, did not try to come back, right? Um, yeah, mind you, the Jazz have kind of morphed into that. It’s like, you know, they they can rope a dope you for the first 10 to 12 minutes and then they score a couple goals and Yeah. and then and then they really really really shut it down and Yep. I think what last night what yesterday showed us guys is they should not be scared to play Eric Comry more than they have in the last number of years. Yeah, I know for sure. Less game for Hella Buck is good. cuz the Olympics is coming. So, he’ll be their war court for the US. And in February in this show, I can’t wait to be talking about Olympic hockey for the first time involving NHLs in a really long time. So, I know it’ll be different. No, we uh we have a lot to look forward to. Yes. Yes. Yeah. No. And then uh well, I don’t know. Uh yeah, kind of the beginning of a Jet season, so we’ll see how it progresses. And uh yeah, we’ll uh we’ll be back with uh Oh, we want to one more thing. No, ju just for me like there’s no reason why they can’t win these next two games at Philly and home in Nashville and yeah, you know, you know, get off to a 4 in one start and uh be really really good because I think I did started going to be pertinent to making in the playoffs. Yeah, it won’t be 18 and one but yeah, I mean it might be they could win 18 games in a row but yep. Um yeah, the other thing guys is I thought Jonath played his best game at the Jet yesterday. You can really start to see his game coming back. Um yeah, he had an assist. Um yesterday where I really noticed his presence is the faceoff circle. Um yes, you know, it’s no longer an adventure for the Jets in the faceoff circle. I haven’t looked at the final faceoff numbers from yesterday, but in the first two games, the Jets were exceeding what they had most of last year in the faceoff circle percentage wise. So, yeah. No, at one point he was six for six in the faceoff circle. So, I don’t know. On the on the big thing for me, guys, is the penalty tail. They perfect the yesterday. They driven up one on 14. Now, I think they’re one on 15. Uh that one for the near the top. Yeah. And then I I I would rather have a did penalty kill than they did power play. And the power play was move the power play. You know what? Yeah. They’ve been stagnant but they made enough moves where they move where you could say okay they tread score but they don’t. You know what I mean? So, so it’s just one of those scenarios of um yeah, it’s just one of those scenarios of uh so it’s just one of those scenarios where uh you know you don’t necessarily score on the power play, but you have good pup movement. Yeah. And and it leads to opportunity later on like a minute later on the net shift or Yeah. the shift after that which isn’t necessarily reflective of a of a power play goal but the benefit of being uh set up by a power play to power play it’s pretty different well that’s that’s the biggest thing co to say is even if you don’t score it creates momentum right and then the by the same to the penalty kill doing really well um sets up a really good penalty kill so yep yeah well we’ll uh We’ll see next week. No, we’ll uh we’ll um see how the Bombers do this week against the Riders. They’re starting Jake Mayer and hopefully we get a win and get in the playoffs. And uh we’ll see how the Jets do. They play Philly and then they’re uh home against Nashville and then Monday night they play uh they’re in Calgary Monday night 8:30 though. And one thing I’ll say, I’m happy Toronto lost. I know you’re a Toronto fan, Michael, but I hate Toronto. I’m happy they lost. Which which Toronto team? The Blue Jays being down 200. No, no, the Toronto Maple Leafs. I can’t stand Toronto Maple Leafs. Early in the season. Yeah, Mason Appleton got the goal. Yeah, whatever. Mason Appleton, baby. Whatever. I didn’t I wasn’t even paying attention yesterday. I was so distracted about it was the most Mason Appleton goal ever. He he somehow like stumbled on his leg then fell but he scored yet he can’t hit the net on in game sits to win the team. Oh yeah, that that’ll be the that’ll be that’ll be the epitome of Mason Appleton and his Jets career. Stitb the runway and but I mean I mean who who knows what happens in game seven but I’ll tell you what game seven in Winnipeg I give a pretty good chance to win that game. All all things being equal. Oh yeah, for sure. Yeah. But no, we’ll be back that sweet. Yeah, next week it’ll be Monday. It’ll be Monday.
