Locked on Wild LIVE 10-12-25 It’s Time for Major Changes

Hey, this is Matt Holdy and you’re listening to Locked on Wild. Hey, this is Marcus Felino and you’re listening to Locked on Wild. You’re Locked on Wild, your daily podcast on the Minnesota Wild, part of the Locked On podcast network. Your team every day. [Music] days. All right, everybody. Welcome in to uh maybe the most important live edition of Lockown Wild that we have done because uh we’re in crisis mode uh after a just hideous performance last night by the Minnesota Wilds. Uh I will I’ll hold off on calling it hockey because it wasn’t. Uh 7 to4 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Uh but without further ado, let’s uh bring Denny in. Denny, good afternoon. Good afternoon everybody and welcome to What the Hell Are You Smoking? And no, I’m not happy. All we’re going to do is I’m just going to talk about what I’ve observed over the last two games. And I would like you fans, I would really like your input at the end of the show on what you think. But I’m going to tell you what I see. Uh to start with our first line, I think it’s first in the NHL with 15 points. Uh Seth was looking up what were the other ones, Seth? Yeah, as far as we checked, um the Wild top line had 15 points. The Edmonton Oilers top line had six. Colorado Avalanche, their top line has uh I believe 11 third um six. I think they have 14. Um I might have done the math wrong on that. Yeah, they have it looks like 14. Uh, Vegas has 11. Florida Panthers obviously dealing with some injuries. They have five. That’s the bright spot of the Minnesota Wild. Uh, I’ve talked to a lot of people, especially up in Canada, and they’re all in the same consensus that uh, Capric could rewrite uh, the record books this year, you know, and everybody’s concerned about his uh, groin and getting hurt again, but I can tell you my doctor said with what they’re doing now with groins, we don’t have to worry about any more groin poles or muscle poles uh, in the groin because they’re using a different kind of mesh now that uh works extremely well. So I’m not worried about Capri off getting hurt. So I’m looking, you know, as you know, I have projected for 120 points this year. I’m sticking to it. Another projection I had is eight 50 point players. Well, I’ve got that down to five and I’m not even sure on that. I’ll be happy if we get one. Well, you know, the whole thing comes down to Hines, his coaching, and his lineups. And I don’t know what you guys think, but why is Feleno on the second line? They’ve tried him before. He doesn’t have the hands. He’s an excellent third line grinder. I mean, there’s very few there are better than Felino on the third for shutdown. That’s what he does best. He’s out of place on the second line. And uh I don’t understand how Mojo can get 16 minutes to do nothing and they play in six minutes. Well, you know, that’s the death call right there. Hines is going to send him down to Iowa because he didn’t do what he’s supposed to do. Well, how the hell do you know what he’s supposed to do when they don’t play him? You know, at the beginning of the season, I I said, uh, you got to give the kids 20 games to see what you have. And then I with my lineup, I had Oberin and Yurof on the second line with uh parent hasn’t even played yet. And you can’t tell me that year off would do worse than Mojo. I I just don’t get it. I don’t understand why Mojo’s on this team. All he does is take a kid spot up, but yet he’s playing 16 minutes a night to create nothing. And I don’t know if that’s Billy’s choice or if that’s Hines’s choice, but it’s a bad choice. And that’s got to go right away. Ogrren has to be put up on the second line. They need put in year off and let the kids play and see what they got. And I guarantee you that’s not going to happen. You’re going to see over down to Iowa here shortly. You know, the first game I had hope. Fourth line played a little over 10 minutes and that’s not the best, but you know, I could deal with that. But last night, six minutes, what has he done wrong? Nothing that I could see. I mean, you know, watching it on TV and being at the game are two different things, but uh they’re not giving Oan a chance and it’s very disappointing. And then when they put Middleton on the third line with Bogle, he looked lost out there. Why you break up the our first defensive pairing like that makes no sense to me. Uh, Faber and Middleton are one hell of a first line. Um, I understand putting them Broaddine up on the third, but or on the first, but Rodine should be down on the third line with Jurosk like I had the original lineup for. And Ze Buham, you have to learn how to uh back check. I’m not sure what the hell you’re doing out there. Are they telling you not to back check? Uh, I don’t get how they’re playing right now. They’re sloppy and yeah, they’re moving the puck and you know, if it wasn’t for our first line, we’d be getting killed 10 to nothing. Uh, the defensive pairings are wrong. Period. You got to put Middleton back up with favor. You got to drop Rodin. And the reason we can drop Rodin down the third line is because of our depth and uh put in jurisack. Uh this would be the best time to trade Bogo because he looks good on the stats. Let Damon Hunt stay. I just uh I don’t know what you what the fans think, but I’d sure like to hear what you’re thinking because uh uh we’re a mess. Ace says, “This team is the same every year. Don’t have an elite center. Bottom six is overpaid. Don’t have an identity. Decor is Jacqueline Hyde. Coach needs to go. Bring in David Carl.” Oh, I love it. I love it. Now, I did find out why David Carl did not sign with us. And uh David Carl wants a five-year contract for stability. and he wants to run the team the way he wants to do it. And I can see why a lot of GMs uh were put off by that. But you look at David Carl’s record and what he has done, especially in the Olympics and all the the highlights playing the nationals in the June, all he does is win. He knows how to coach up, which John Hines does not do. I agree. I’ve been talking about this for a couple year since Hines got uh put in charge. He’s good with the uh with the vets, but he’s not a good coach for the kids. And you know, our future is with the kids. And I just don’t uh I don’t see it happening. I think you’re going to see all go down. Who knows if they play your off? I mean, it’s I I just I don’t get it. I don’t know what they’re looking at. I’m uh I’m really confused right now. The one thing that we do have is we have Capria and Bolley. And don’t tell me Rozie isn’t a firstline center. Yes, he is. He absolutely is. Uh Our first line is awesome. Best in the NHL right now. And I don’t see that changing much because uh it’s just that good a line. I mean, 15 points is two games. How can you not say Ross is not a first line center? Come on, think about that for a minute. Yeah, I love our first line. Our second line. Oh, I don’t get it, you know. I’m not sure what Hines is thinking. I really don’t. And uh Felo has never been a second line player. His best position is third line wing on a shutdown with E and Hartman. Please put your off in put up on the second line and let’s roll with it. See what we got. I mean, I don’t get it. Uh Trenan has lost some weight. I guess 15 pounds is how much he’s lost. And he does look a little better, but Trenan is still a fourthline player. Uh you’d be a very he’s a very good fourthline player when you look at it that way. And Hunter Hate, they gave him eight minutes. You know, the way Hines is running the club hasn’t changed one bit. And I was really hoping that he would, but you go down fourth line, you’re lucky to play. And uh it’s not it’s not a good thing for the Wild or for the players as as I have talked about. They have to play 12 13 minutes a game and let him play. And he’s not doing that. You can tell overin is uh skating not to make a mistake instead of skating to win. And there’s a big difference there. And that’s because Hines doesn’t know how to coach up. Anybody else agree with that? I mean, oh my god, I can’t believe it. So, we’re in crisis, right? Yes, we are. The only thing we got hangs on the brink two games in. I’m not going there for you because he’s got to change. Isn’t that Isn’t that what the definition of crisis is? Well, with his current lineup, it is. Uh, you know, our first line is so good that uh they’re going to carry a lot of the wins. We have no second line. We got a passable third line, but it could be much better. And he doesn’t play the fourth line. Uh, and this is only the second game. I just uh God help us if they keep uh keep the line up the way it is. You got to give the kids a chance. You do. You got to let them play 20 games so they don’t have the fear of getting demoted for making a mistake because kids are going to make mistakes. You live with it. You grow from it. I just uh What are your feelings fans? What do you think? What would your lineup be for the second line and the third line and the fourth line? Anybody got some ideas? What about Gus last night? Well, I don’t put that so much on Gus, the defense. I put a lot of it on Gus. Well, he let in some weak ones, but uh they had 12 breakaways, I believe. 12, maybe more. You That’s not defense. That’s not defense at all. And Ze Buham. Yeah, he scored his first goal and uh he’s not backing at all. Uh I’m not sure if that’s what they told him to do, but you know, defense is defense. You got to back check and cover your man. And he’s not doing that yet. I don’t know if they’re telling to do that, though. That’s the problem. But, you know, he’s already a minus four. That keeps going. He’s going to Iowa, too. Oh, excuse me. I mean, I kind of doubt I kind of doubt, say what you will about John Hines, I kind of doubt that they’re telling him don’t backtrack. I don’t know. In college, he never played like that. I don’t know why he would change his game up because he’s pro. Could it simply be the fact that NHL players are by and large bigger and better than pretty much everybody that plays in college? Could it simply be that the game’s faster? The game is better and if you don’t bring your absolute best on a nightly basis, you’re probably going to get left on an island. That’s correct. Then NHL is the best uh for a reason. And uh you know, it all comes down to coaching. It really does. I see a lot of potential in Zeve. I mean, he skates like the wind, but he’s got to back check. I He just can’t uh Who’s that uh defenseman we used to have that we traded to San Jose because he wouldn’t back check? Yes. Kayn Addison. Same thing. He could skate like the wind, shoot the puck, but he didn’t back checkck and so we moved him. He pout Kaylin Addison pouted his way off the line out of the Wild lineup. Yeah. Yeah. I just uh I’m very concerned right now. Anybody got a second line edition here? Uh Ace says EC Ogrren and Terasenko Hartman with Felino and Yurov um as kind of his second and third line options. Okay, a lot of people saying Ron says time for a retool. Big Bear says Hines has to go. Thank you. Hines doesn’t know how to develop players and win in the playoffs. They’re all right. Every one of them. So, the Wild should fire him. They should fire him today. They’re not going to do that. But I bet you if things don’t improve by the All-Star break, Hines will be gone. Uh, you can’t keep coaching like this. He has to change his upper mode. The kids are our future and you got, you know, the first 20 games of the season, you’re not going to lose the season or you’re not going to win the season. But I mean, it sounds like from what we’re saying here, the season’s already lost. No, I’m not saying that. But he’s got to play the kids. I mean, Europe hasn’t even played yet. How do we know how good he is? I I just uh I’m at a loss for what Hines is thinking. I don’t know what he’s looking at in players, but uh you know, I’ve been watching hockey a long time and I can tell you with all the kids that come in, you know, you’ll have a few stars like Baldi. He first came in, he’s spectacular and he’s been on a roll ever since. That doesn’t happen for everybody. Like I said before, we have to give him a fair shot and o they’re going to send him to Iowa. I can see it already without getting a shot. And that’s terrible because that’s really poor just poor management as far as I’m concerned. And if they don’t straighten it up, uh the wild could be in for a very long season. I just uh I’m just so disappointed. I had really high hopes, you know, and I’ve talked to some hockey uh people up in Toronto and they see the same thing that I do and they’re as puzzled by what Hines is doing that I am too. Yeah. I just uh I don’t understand how Hines is thinking. His lineups are terrible. They were last year, too. You know, especially when they put uh Rossy down in the fourth line for the playoffs. There’s no reason to do that, but it’s neither here nor there now. Well, clearly it is here and there. So, yeah, I just uh I’m at a loss. I’m so disappointed right now. And uh when’s Walstead going to play? Because you know, I got really high hopes for him. But if we got a defense like we did last night, God help us. So don’t play him then. No, got to play him. They have to play him, but they got to change up the defensive core. Middleton should be on the first favor. William and Spurgeon I like and I I like Brody with Jurk on the third. That gives us a nice deep combination. And what did I see from Jurassic? Nothing but good stuff. Yeah, he made one mistake. Well, that’s a kid making a mistake starting out in hockey. Everybody’s going to do that. I don’t care who you are. I mean, when Bobby or started, he still made mistakes, too. But they let him play and keep going and grow from it. And that’s what Hines has got to do. I, you know, I hate to come. That’s what the show’s about. There’s nothing nothing good to talk about with his lineups. What do you think, fans? What was uh what was what was the Wild’s record after three games last year? I don’t know. I don’t remember. 10 and2. What was the record for the Wild after 2023 2024 after two games? One and one. What was the record 2022 2023 after two games? 0 and3 that year. How about 2021 2022? Couldn’t tell you. That year they were 4-0 to start the season. I’m not going to react one way or the other until we got about 10 games on 10 games under the belt this season. Yeah, it was a gross loss last night, but it’s game two. There are a lot of teams that are 0 and2 that we figured would be in the playoffs. That’s just how it goes. Yeah, that’s true. But the Lions don’t make any sense. I don’t care for a one and one. It doesn’t matter. The lineups are they’re not the way they should be at all. You got to have your off in there. You got to have up on the second line. That’s what we draft them for. And you got to let them play. You have to let the kids play to see what you got. I can’t emphasize that enough. You can’t play two or three games and skate so that you don’t make a mistake instead of skating to win. And that’s what I see happening right now. Regardless of it’s two games or not. That’s what I see when he went from uh 10 minutes down to sec down to six minutes. That’s not a good sign. That’s Hines for you. And I got nothing good to say about Hines right now. Not that I ever have really, but I I just uh it doesn’t make any sense to me the lineups. I mean, Fellaino should never be second line. He doesn’t have the hands. He’s got hands of stone is what I call it. He doesn’t receive passes real well. He’s a he’s a good skater and when he gets going he’s got some moves but that’s why he’s a 15 goal scorer and to have him up on the second line that just uh I don’t get it. I just got to know he doesn’t have good hands or maybe he doesn’t. I don’t know. I’m just so disappointed right now. I know it’s only two games and hopefully things are going to change, but I don’t understand his layups at all. I really don’t. What do you think, sir? God, my opinion is not relevant. It’s two games in. I can’t form concrete opinions on what this team looks like until they’ve played more games. True. 10 games I is a good measure. And that’s when I’ll start doing the power rankings is that 10 games. Uh right now THG has the wild ranked ninth. And how he comes to that conclusion, I have no idea. So where would you rank him then? Well, they’re 50/50. So I would put them 16. 20th, 25th, 26th, 16th. They’re one in one. uh you know their uh their game over uh their first game was impressive. You know, five nothing shut out. You know, Gus made a statement. Top line was uh crazy good. Second game, complete opposite. So, I’m going 5050 on that one. But, you know, you can’t really uh Gus let in some weak goals. There’s no doubt about it. But he must have had well I counted 12 breakaways 12 breakaways. That shouldn’t happen in 10 games and that was one game. Uh that game was because no defense at all. And hopefully they get the those things tied up. And if you uh saw the game last night, you saw Hartman get crossch checked in front of the net. That should have been a double minor. No question about it. And they didn’t even call it because we were already on the power play. They didn’t call it because Ryan Hartman’s got a history. Yeah. Whether it has a history or not, you got to call those. I mean, God, you could absolutely hurt somebody the way they how they dealt with him last night. It was absolutely a double minor and he got nothing. And that’s what the players get for not putting something in their uh their contract about the referees. They have no accountability. And I can see things just getting worse and worse. Players got to understand it’s up to them to make the changes because the GMs aren’t The owners aren’t. They like how it’s going. So then they got to hold out. We got to have a lockout. No, they just got to come to a conclusion how to make the the the refs accountable. It’s pretty simple thing to do because if the refs are held accountable for the decisions they made or not made and they take money out of their pocket for doing it, uh you won’t see that happen because you know all the refs get reviewed after every game and uh that would change a lot of things. You know, as I talked about there should never be a slooh foot. You know, poor Spurgeon last year, everybody blame him because he was, well, you get a slooh. What do you expect to have? And uh that that uh that showed me that the refs are going to be out of control this year. I mean, they didn’t call it because they’re already on the power play. So what? Doesn’t matter. Doesn’t matter if it’s Hartman or anybody else. You got to call those penalties. It’s just uh the season isn’t starting out the way I thought. I mean, I I know we’re not going 82 and 0. You know, I expect the the Wild to get about 50 wins this year. 112 points to be exact. And I just uh I’m so disappointed with uh the lineup right now. It’s got to change. It has to change because uh we look like a civ last night on defense. If it wasn’t for uh our first line in the power play, we’d have nothing. What did the second, third, fourth lines do? Nothing. And we got Mojo playing 16 minutes. He’s going to get elevated to second line. It sounds like God. Yeah. Good luck with that. Zero point producer. Well, well, he’s good for 11 goals a year. That’s what Russo said. Really? You know, I don’t listen to uh Russo or any of the other uh uh hockey broadcasters or podcasters from the rest of because I don’t want them to taint what I’m thinking. after they say it and after then I go back and review what they say, but I don’t want them to uh change my mind from what I see in the game and I’m not going to change that. The way I see the game is the way I see the game and I don’t want Russo influencing it. That’s, you know, and Russo’s top dog and he see he gets to see a lot and learn a lot about what’s going on the wild more than I ever will. But, you know, watching hockey is watching hockey and I don’t care who you are. I can evaluate talents as good as anybody. And yeah, I’m just so disappointed, but it’s a long season. Hopefully things will change. Any thoughts from the fans? Uh, let’s talk about how bad E is in the faceoff circle and was last night. That’s from Big Bear. Ah, well, yeah. What was his f what he did? What was it? 30 35 40% maybe he was uh eight of 21. Yeah. 40%. Well, that’s why I got him. That’s why I have him third line with Hartman and Felino to protect him. He’s getting older. I expect his numbers will get better. Uh, what did Rossy do in the in the dot? Six of 21. Well, still early, but it doesn’t look like it’s training from uh uh what’s his name in Dallas? Oh, who got hurt in Dallas already? It’s a long deal. Uh Jamie Ben. Jamie Ben, who has spent the summer with Rossy teaching him how to take play. That was uh that was Joe Thornton. Oh, I mean Joe Thornton. Yes. Yes. Yes. I’m sorry. Well, it doesn’t look like it’s rubbed off. Oh my god. Yeah, we were terrible last night. The dots. We had no defense. If it wasn’t for the power play, we wouldn’t have had any goal. It’s just uh we’re a mess right now, but we got a lot of time to improve. And I got high hopes for this team. I really do. I see a lot of good things, but uh Hines has got to change it up. He really does. Any other thoughts from the fans? Um, Ace wants to know dream um dream coach choices top three for the Wild to replace John Hines. Oh, David Carl’s number one period. I would absolutely give him the five years he wants. He’s Didn’t he just didn’t he sign for five in Denver? that h I don’t think it was five. Thought it was three. Maybe it was five, but you know, it’s a contract that can be bought out, but I don’t I don’t know. Um uh the last guy or the the guys from uh AHL league that uh I like uh one’s in Pittsburgh now. Um, I can’t think of his name, but Pittsburgh hired my my top choice before Carl and uh Oh, the Hershey Bears guy. Yeah. Who all who all he did was win cups down there. You know, that’s a good question. I’m going to have to uh take re-evaluate uh what’s going on with the coaching because uh Hines ain’t doing it. We’re stuck in a position right now where we have to deal with it. I just hope Hines listens to us fans because I know I’m not the only one who’s disappointed. I saw Um, oh, what’s your name? 16 16 of the 20 players did not show up last night. Uh, courtesy of Big Bear. Yeah, he’s right. I mean, no backing, no defense at all. They look sloppy when they were back there. I mean, it was terrible. And for a home opener, that’s not a good sign. God, I just uh put Middleton down on the third with Bogo was not a good choice. You got to keep Bogle or Middleton in Faber together. That’s all the first line. Ron says John Tordella for a new Wild Coach. Really? If you think John Hines hates kids. Yeah. John Tordella benched their Matt He benched Madfay Mitchkov for multiple games. So if you if you think Hines doesn’t like rookies, John Tordell is a thousand times worse. Yeah, I would not pick uh Torrell to be my coach. And I’m gonna bring up a point I’m gonna bring up a good point by Trav here. Did Hines get any credit for the 50 win? No. Should he? I’m just saying. Well, I and I like I’m I want to fully disclose too. I agree that they need to give these guys adequate playing time, but I just if he’s not going to get fired, I don’t know what campaigning for him to get fired does. I give him till the All-Star break. He’s got a lot of time to change. And he he simply has to play the kids. They’re our future. They’re here now. Let them play. We won’t know what we have until we play them. Simple as that. And you you can thank the first line uh for the win in St. Louis. And I think we’re going to be uh thanking the first line for all our wins right now because we don’t have a second or a third or a fourth line really. At least I haven’t seen anything yet to uh indicate that. You know, our third line did okay the first game. What did they do last night? Nothing. We have to have secondary scoring. Our second line is worse than last year. What they do? Nothing. I just uh I just hope he he realizes he has to play the kids. It’s plain and simple because then after you know what you have then you deal with it. You make trades and uh we got what’ you say we’re going to have 20 million. If they don’t have any injuries between now and the trade deadline they’ll have 20 million in cap to use. But that’s probably not going to be the case. So the hope is that they have somewhere around 10 10 12. You still pick anybody you want for that kind of money that’s available. And I know uh Alex Tuck has not resigned with Buffalo because he wants 10 and Buffalo’s not going to give it to him. So he’d be at the top list. And uh Paneran, he’s looking to move on. I don’t know what kind of money he’s looking at, but he’d be another candidate to move in. And he’s one hell of a player. I mean, he’s 89 point player still. Um, there’ll be options. Terra Senko, I’m still the jury’s out. From what I see, you know, it’s just a TV team. Uh, he’s skating. Okay. He’s not involved in the game as much as he should be for as old as he is. He should know the open spots and how to get there and how to create more than he’s done so far. But the jury is still out on him. I’m not going to say yay or nay on till I see at least 10 games. He certainly still has that release and uh it’s a thing of beauty when when that happens. Excuse me. And Trrenon losing 15 pounds. He He’s much He looks real good and he’s moving in the ice real nice, but he’s still a fourthline player. Uh Henrosza, you know, he’s just a bundle of energy and he’s out there. He’s playing. He’s playing his heart out. I really appreciate that. Maybe they move him up to the second line. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens. Any more thoughts? Um, Big Bear says, “We don’t need a former long-term coach. We need a top young assistant who knows how to deal with younger players and can coach them up.” Absolutely. I’ve been preaching that for a long time. you know, and I can understand why James uh didn’t want to uh give David Carl a five-year deal, but if you look at his record, we should have certainly signed him. I mean, uh all he does is win with kids. He knows how to coach him up. And look how many players he’s producing the NHL. That’s just one hell of a sign. But I tell you what, this week I’m going to be looking at coaching candidates. So, next show I’ll have a list and then uh we can go over it and see what you guys think. Anything else? Uh Ron says Mike Sullivan would have been his off seasonason hire. Yeah. Yeah. Sen’s a good coach. Well, he’s uh with the Rangers now, isn’t he? Yeah. Yeah. And for good reason. You know, Pittsburgh, uh they’re a mess, too. Although, uh Brazil’s got two goals this year already. Figure that one out. God. Oh, I don’t know. Yeah. This week I’m gonna be looking over C coaching candidates. Ne next next show I’ll have a list. Other than that, I don’t have much more to say this week. Uh, somebody’s got questions for me. Sure. Let’s hear them. Um, not really questions, just a lot of people agreeing that it’s pathetic and embarrassing what the Wild have done so far this season. Well, it’s nice that you agree with me. You know, uh, I had a guy send me a personal message calling me that I’m a hack and don’t have a clue about hockey. I got to tell you, that really hurt. That’s the first time I’ve ever been called a hack in uh the 40 years that I’ve been doing this. I don’t know what brought that on. Uh the guy’s on judge show all the time. I’m not going to say his name or whatever his number is, but yeah. I just have to tell you, uh, I stopped Messenger, so you can’t send me nasty nobody can anymore. I I stopped I cut it, stopped the Facebook and all that stuff completely down. You want to leave me a comment, you do it on the show here. Other than that, uh, my what the hell are you smoking is he and his lineup for this week and it’s welld deserved. Uh, any more thoughts from from the fans? Not really in the way of questions, just more so comments about Ace wonders, do you think Billy could move on from URK, take the loss, and face the music? I like I don’t know what he’s done wrong. Honest to God, he was a plus three in his first game and uh they took him out for what? I don’t know. I I really don’t know what the coaching crew it looks at. I love the year. I mean, you know, I wish he’d had him on the second power play cuz he’s got the best shot on the wild. That would really open things up. And taking him out after one game when he looked pretty good. I mean, he got turned a couple times, but you know what? He’s a kid. You have to expect that. Let him learn from it, grow. Uh that’s problem with Hines that he doesn’t know how to coach up and that’s a huge problem and I can see that getting worse. But we’ll see. Maybe he changes his mind. Maybe somebody tells him uh you know you got to give him a break and let him play. That’s all we can hope for because last night’s lineup was just an absolute mess. I mean, uh, I don’t understand put taking Middleton in favor apart when they’ve been together for all these years and look really good. Bodin should be done the third line of juris period. If I was coach, that’s what I would do. And, uh, I’m going to have I would have to have a talk with Zoom about no backing. He get to go to the woodshed because he’s got to wake up, smell the coffee. This is the NHL. Yeah, he got a goal. He’s got an assist. And you know, offensively, he’s fine. And he’s a D man, not an offensive man. Of course, that’s how they look at Dman now, for offense, not for defense. Not in my book. Got to stop the puck first. So, I don’t know. That’s all I got for this this week. I’m sorry, guys. Girls, I just don’t have much more to say. Nothing good. So, with that, unless you got something to say, Seth, uh, nope, I don’t really have anything to add. All right. Well, this will be the shortest show in history, but uh I got nothing else to say. So, with that, I’m giving Hines the what the hell are you smoking for this week? And uh thank you everybody for tuning in. List me rent rave. Uh we’ll see you next week. All right. Thanks everybody. Bye.

Denny discusses why it’s time for John Hynes to be fired, why Bill Guerin needs to step aside as GM and why it’s likely the Wild do not win the Central Division after last night’s performance

  1. I was at that game, it was absolutely PATHETIC!!!!!! Zeev should be down in iowa after that game! I dont care that he scored! He made 6 errors i counted that either killed a scoring chance or forced us on the defensive! IF we lose Monday which im honestly expecting to and we lose by 5 id FIRE hines right then!!! Honestly and i hate saying this the best thing that will happen is if we lose the next 5 in a row so Billy FINALLY fires hines!!!!!

  2. It was game 2. 80 games to go. The season is a long grind. It is best not to get too high after a win or too low after a loss. MN fans need to stop riding the roller-coaster of emotion and overreacting after a loss or a win.
    1. Hynes isn't getting fired, so dont waste your time with a "next coach candidates" show.
    2. We can't control the lineup or line combos.
    3. Because of 1 and 2, let's freshin it up and talk about something else next show.

  3. 2 games…going to be ok. Gotta defend well, and faceoffs are a huge part of that. That being said. I thought Jiricek was playing well, love to see him have a shot

  4. Nothing will take a team out of their game plan like a quick goal against.
Elevate Hartman, drop Foligno until Zucci gets back.
The 1st line is capable of 3 per night and would be considered a great line if they could play better in the defense zone.
Might consider swapping Boldy and Rossi with Ek and either Tarasenko or Heartman. If nothing else, give the opponent more than one line to defend against.

  5. Hahaha yes dennyyyy yes. I said it after the first games lineup was announced, hynes is a joke and I dont get the decision making. Then the 2nd game came around and Brodin wasnt limited to 3rd pair šŸ˜‚ jiricek was sat for bogo šŸ˜‚ hinostroza and mojo still in the lineup over yurov šŸ˜‚ yeah nah wild will not being getting 1st or 2nd seed under hynes, terrible coach

  6. Ive never seen a player be a +3 and get benched the next game until now. Brodin wasnt ready. Foligno needs to be bot 6. Nojo bench. Move up hartzy n ohgren enter yurov. Calen addison pouted his way out the nhl.

  7. Kap – Rossi – Tarasenko
    Yurov – ek – Hartman
    Haight – Trenin – Foligno
    Ohgren – jojo – Hinostroza

Edit, can’t believe I forgot Boldy:

    Kap – Rossi – Tarasenko
    Boldy – Ek – Hartman
    Yurov – Trenin – Foligno
    Ohgren – Haight – Jojo

    Better?

  8. It’s 1 of 82. Relax. Last show was aboutā€ the dynasty that was being built.ā€

With all these young players it’s going to be ups and downs for the first 20games at least. I bet anything they come out and light it up next game.

  9. Could Seth text or answer more emails while Denny is talking?? Dude this is your most watched show, Denny is entertaining and has great introspection! I've seen Seth do good shows with other people I don't get it.

  10. Alright!!! 2.44 percent of the games have been played and it's time to get down on the wild. The defense stinks so lets get rid Zeev, Faber and Brodin for sure because coming off disabled list he's not skating. Of course, we have to get rid all the lines except the first line, but maybe Rossi too. I'm 80 years old so I know how to get the team going for the next 80 games.

  11. Jesus the doom and gloom is incredible. Give them a bag skate and read them the riot act. I wouldn't throw away the whole season after 1 loss.

  12. Not trying to be hateful here but Denny reminds me of a youth hockey coach that does a lot of talking but it’s not backed up with a whole lot of knowledge of the sport. It’s one game, it was bad, there weee some bad bounces as well. Let’s see how they rebound, if this goes for 15 games then we can be hitting the SOS and talk drastic measures.

  13. It should be a rule that u cant critique any team until ur atleast 10 games into the season 🤣🤣

Denny i think ur going blind..u must have not seen that mojo was the only one that can actually take the puck from center ice and drive it to the net.

  14. 2nd game of the season…let's start talking trades and a new a coach. Geez. I will say this with all due respect to denny….but u have been wrong…..ALOT.

  15. 1 bad game and Denny is saying things like ā€œgod help usā€ and ā€œhynes has to goā€. Holy cow man, take a breath. How about you get Denny on the show once every other week and he can at least make his ridiculous comments based on a handful of games.

  16. Denny is the typical wild fan. All the negative is the coach and GMs fault but when you ask if they should get any credit for the 5-0 win he looks confused and says why would he? Lol give him credit for the loss but not the win. Yep, this is definitely Minnesota.

  17. Listen everyone, this isn't new this isn't about two games, this is about and how he coaches, starting from last year, His line ups last year were
    Ridiculous, and it hasn't changed,
I was hoping with the kids he would change, but that's clearly not happening, we are still a one line team
That won't get us to the promise land

  18. Man I understand not hitting the panic button but feel like Denny is just trying to have a discussion and Seth is annoyed and irritated with him. Denny just seems disappointed with the lines and the coaching. I’m not hitting the panic button either but I understand Denny’s concerns/disappointment. Why does Seth have him on the show if he doesn’t want to have a discussion with him? Seth just seems checked out when Denny is on

  19. ***Denny, here's a suggestion. Grab a notebook and pencil before tonight's game and pick an aspect of the game (PK, PP, 5 on 5, just the goalie, just the wings, or whatever) or specific player(s), and write down what you see. Likes and dislikes, and specific examples. And for the next game do the same thing but select a different aspect. The reason I suggest this we have plenty of shows about firing Hynes, the line combinations, the kids, who should be the next coach, etc.
Just a thought to help freshen things up bit.

  20. After reading all the comments, I will say this Denny is right on with foligng he should not be on the second line, and Denny has been talking about hynes and his lineups for a long time, this doom and gloom is not justified yet but he does bring up a good point, as for the rookies, well will see the jury is still out, as for saying Denny is always wrong ? I really question that as I’ve been listening to him for years, he’s pretty much right about everything, and let me remind you of this, when he said Deno would be fired ,everyone said he’s crazy and didn’t know what he talking about just for the record he was right , this was a show about Denny who’s love for the wild is real Great show Mary

  21. Late to the party here. A head coaches first priority is winning games, that’s his job. A lot goes into that and there are many different styles. The Wild have played a lot of kids. KK, Boldy, Rossi, Faber, now ZB. My opinion is the new kids on the ice will get played when they help win games. Unless a team is in extreme rebuild that’s pretty much how the entire NHL works. The Wild smoked St. Louis Which has a proven coach, check the goaltending stats as they are a top indicator of who’s winning. I think Yurov will be the next kid up as I’m already including Wallstedt. If you think Hynes is making lineup decisions a la carte…well I’d say you’re not tracking with the Upper Wild Management’s style. Fun fact if a team gets more than 4 points out of a playoff spot by Thanksgiving, they only have a 10% chance of making the playoffs.
