This is EXACTLY What the Pelicans Needed – MASSIVE Injury Update…

This is exactly what the New Orleans Pelicans needed as there has been a whole lot of turmoil surrounding this team in the last couple of seasons and they need some stability and they need it from the face of their franchise who they are getting it from with him also speaking out on this New Look Pelicans team very excitedly and we also on top of that have a major injury update to go over on one of the Pelicans most exciting prospects as well. We have a ton of openings, including multiple openings for the New Orleans Saints, who obviously things are not looking great for this season. But at the same time, it does give a whole lot of opportunities for you for your future. And believe me, opens a ton of doors that are absolutely life-changing. So, make sure to apply if you think this is a good situation for you. It’s going to be the place to be for all Pelicans news all season long. But let’s jump into the video. There is a lot to go over on the team right now because look, obviously the Pelicans have seen their fair share of turmoil over the past couple of seasons. And Zion Williamson now is back. He’s in shape. He’s ready to go and he looks very bought into this Pelicans team. That’s an excellent sign. As honestly, we all know the truth of the matter is that this team goes exactly as far as Zion Williamson can bring them. When he’s here, the Pelicans look a lot better. And when he’s not here, they do not even look like a highend like a a high-end lottery team. They look like a team that should be picking in the top five. So, when Zion’s here, the whole thing changes. They go from a team that is not going to have any playoff hopes to actually having playoff hopes just based off everything that we’ve seen Zion do. I mean, since the 2022 23 season, the Pelicans have a 43 and 74 record without Zion. And with Zion, they have a 69 and 60 record. So, it’s evidently clear what the situation is here, how this team goes. But the what the engine of this team is. It’s Zion Williamson. When he’s healthy, when he’s there, when he’s playing his best basketball, the man is an unstoppable force. He’s an all-star level player who’s able to carry the Pelicans as their number one option. Something we’ve seen time and time again. Now, Zion, he spoke on going into this season and he said, “We have some things to work on as a team, but overall, I felt we got what we needed out of it individually. There is a lot of things that I feel like could have done better the first game. Rebounding was definitely one and just getting into sets, even if they don’t all score instead of just being all over the place.” So, Zion’s speaking out and speaking like a leader, which is absolutely huge because when he plays, he is going to have to be a natural leader. for the man in 28 minutes a game last year. Put up 24.6 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. He did it all. Got a steal per game, got a block per game, shot 56% from the field. He showed why he’s an all-star talent. There’s no doubts that Zion is an all-star talent. And he also spoke about playing with Jordan Pool as well, one of the new players on this team, one of the new core members of the Pelicans, saying it’s going to be exciting out there on the court with him because P brings energy and he’s a competitor. He won a ring, so he knows what it takes to get there. And having that experience on this team with him alone is big for us. And it absolutely is. Not just because Jordan Pool is experienced like Cavon Looney who also is experienced winning on the exact same team, but P also last year on the Wizards put up 20 points per game shot uh grabbed three rebounds, got four and a half assists. Shy can be a lead ball handling guard, especially while DeJonte Murray recovers from the Achilles injury. Shot 38% from three and 43% from the field. on a team with Zion who commands a ton of double teams. Pool is going to get more openings to try to score the ball and create his own shot. And we should see that Pelicans three leading scorers be in some variation of Zion first and then one of P and Trey Murphy second and third depending on which way it goes with that. We’re yet to see. It’s kind of based on how teams defend the Pelicans really more than anything in matchups. But that’s a good three top three scorers. They’re also all younger. They’re not like they’re old. They’re just entering their primes now. This is the point where you want to have these guys because it makes you believe in something. Also, having Herb Jones there is going to be huge. Having Eve Mi is going to be huge. Eventually, Dejonte Murray will come back and be able to give them more stability when it comes to defense out of that guard spot and also a true playmaker. So, Jordan P can move to the two where he does ultimately fit better or could even be a sixth man and be one of the best sixth men in the NBA. The Pelicans lowkey have depth when they’re healthy. It’s just a matter of trying to get healthy. Can they get lucky with the injury stuff? Can the bad injury luck finally go away? That’s a big question. And on top of that, speaking of injuries, one of the injuries that we’re considering or that we’re thinking about throughout this time has been Derek Queen. And as it was mentioned, after undergoing wrist surgery on July 18th, Pelicans rookie Derrick Queen is still limited to non-cont portions of practice, which obviously is concerning because the Pelicans did end up trading a first round pick to the Atlanta Hawks to draft Derek Queen, who did play well in college basketball, showing a very talented ability to be a big man at either spot. He’s a solid defender who scores down low really well. Put up six eight and a half points, nine rebounds, and two assists per game, shooting 52% from the field. Derek Queen is a very talented player. There’s no doubt about the fact that he’s a talented player and that the Pelicans, they need Derek Queen to be his best self. It’s just how they’re going to be at their best because he adds another big man to this roster and he could play both positions, which is absolutely huge. We saw him shoot really, really well in summer league as well. He only shot 44% from the field, but did shoot 50% from three. put up 14 points and 11 rebounds per game with two assists. So, he showed a lot of potential to play that four spot as well. And to just give the Pelicans more versatility and in this day in the NBA, that’s absolutely massive. Now, Queen did talk about coming back and everything and he said it’s tough right now. It’s a lot of conditioning, a lot of weight room. I just got to watch my teammates out there play five on five and them doing the whole practice while I can only do a partial practice. Everybody goes hard. Practice is physical and it’s tough. Everybody is just trying to win and get on the same page pretty much. So, Queen clearly is just I don’t want to say like upset, but he’s clearly frustrated by the fact that he can’t be out there being just being his whole self and he sees his teammates running and he’s a rookie and he doesn’t want to fall behind. And that makes perfect sense. I mean, when you’re a rookie in the NBA, it’s hard to really figure out your life because it’s not just you’re navigating that, you’re now playing in the NBA, the most competitive basketball league on the planet, but on top of that, in the best basketball league on the planet, but on top of that, you went from being a college student a year ago to being around everyone your age, or at least around your age range, to now you’re around adults, you’re around grown men. You’re younger and you’re around these grown men who you have to find a way how to fit in, not just on the court, but off the court in life. You’re going to spend a lot of time with these guys. Constant flights around America. And on top of that, living in New Orleans, you’re going to be with them most days anyway, whether you’re playing basketball games, whether you’re practicing, whether there’s team bonding stuff. And again, when you’re just constantly flying all over the country with you guys with these guys, it’s definitely going to be tough as a 20-year-old to go out there and try to befriend these other guys who are in their later 20s or mid20s or even some of them in their 30s. Like and that’s one of the things that the Pelicans they do have to look towards their leadership whether it’s coaching or whether it’s Zion or someone else on the team like a Jordan Pool for instance also should have experience with this at this point. Obviously Jordan Pool doesn’t always have the best success with his teammates or well one of his teammates who well you know but in all seriousness one of them has to go out there and sort of just like make sure Derrick Queen’s doing all right and I do imagine the Pelicans will do that. basketball teams have been doing this a very very very long time and Queen clearly wants to get out there on the court and start playing basketball again and it is expected that he’s going to be ready soon after the season starts at this rate. It’d be surprising if he is available the first couple games of the season, but this shouldn’t be a long-term thing. We should see Queen get back. I’m a little bit worried about his jump shot is going to fare when he’s dealing with a wrist injury because you can get in your head on that. So, if he does start slow from the shooting positions, I wouldn’t be really too worried at all. But it definitely is something to be aware of going into everything to kind of give him a little bit of a longer leash because he is sort of learning on coming back from an injury as well, which is not always ideal for a rookie. But we’re going to see how it all plays out anyway. We’re going to see how the Pelicans play out. What do you want to see out of the Pelicans? What do you want to see out of Zion this year? What’s your goal for Zion Williamson this year? That’s what I want to hear in the comments down below. Let me know that. Like this video, subscribe, turn on post notifications. Have a great day. 1. Queen is a high flyer and a hard swiper. Make sure that injury is stronger than ever to ensure he gets his chance at being a future core member of the Pels. He has a great ceiling, big motor, and undeniable talent. Nice podcast, Chris.
