Memphis Grizzlies Vs Miami Heat Full Game Highlights | Oct 17, 2025 NBA Preseason TODAY
Jason Goldenberg and Matt Meyers. And greetings, Heat Nation. And to our viewers in Memphis, Tennessee, off we go on a Miami Heat NBA preseason adventure. There’s always different approaches to a final preseason game. Both of these against a Memphis defense that has been extraordinarily giving through their first four preseason losses. A good strong take there by Andrew Wiggins and being focused and having some plays dedicated to getting some of their key offensive players going. Important for Miami here to get off to a good start. A first offensive rebound of the game did not last long for for Memphis. And over and back despite the good hustle for that is a turnover. It’s going to be ruled a turnover. Heat ball here in the front court. Tavon Mitchell playing in his third preseason game after missing the first three with a calf injury. Wiggins for three. That continues to be sort of a touchy subject. The threes have been harder to find in the preseason for the Heat. KCP bounces off. Rebound knocked out of bounds by Adabaya. Chuck Landill came flying in in his fifth season at 611 255 lbs. Kell’s got to hit him first and block him off. He will come flying in from that top of the key foul line area for offensive rebound. land with the Spurs, the Suns, and the Rockets before winding up in Memphis as a free agent in the offseason. He’s filling in for the injured Zack Edy, a huge secondyear player. Speaking of secondyear players, that’s 22-year-old Jaylen Wells. He had first team all rookie season a year ago when he averaged 10 points a game. Yeah, really impressive. And little drive and kick activity there. Tuck Ty Jerome able to get inside, use that size, and then kick it out to get Wells the shot. Ban missing the corner three and he’s scoreless. Almost a minute and a half gone by. The deflection by Ban and the takeaway by Ban. Wow, what a run down. Active hands keep that one alive. Wiggins in transition got fouled. Basket by Wear will not count. He trying to play faster, trying to get it into the front court as quickly as possible, especially off those types of broken plays or steals or excellent rebounding position to tip that one in. John, the Heat made just five of their 34 triples in overtime lost Monday at Atlanta. They’re they’re taking 31 threes a game in the preseason, making just nine. Those numbers way low in today’s NBA. Are you concerned watching the Heat’s three-point shoot? I mean, look, it’s it’s concerning, but you haven’t seen, you know, you’re not seeing the Heat’s top eight playing real NBA minutes as of yet. Their minutes are, you know, substantially below. They’re a third to 2/3 of the minutes they’re typically going to play. So, the more minutes this group out here on the floor plays, the better those numbers should be. Meanwhile, he’s filling the large void left by Jean Moran’s preseason ankle injury. They hope to have Moran opening night. That’s a pretty dra finish by Norman Powell, the 11-year vet out of UCLA. Great move from Pal. Get all the way to the rim with the right hand. That should set up that jumper as the game goes on. There’s Wells. A contested three gets quite the bounce. What? A couple of triples. Secondyear pro out of Washington State. That was a ridiculous bounce. Right on top of the backboard, too. And somehow it goes. He made 138 triples as a rookie last year. Avon from the wing knocks it down. Avon Mitchell averaged eight points per game last season, but little more than 10 a game in his 30 outings since coming over in the trade with Maya. Great read, too. The defender went under the pick and roll. That let him have extra time to set his feet to get to that 16 ft jumper. Offensive foul. illegal screen set by Jiren Jackson. So, they’ve already committed four turnovers as their 43-year-old head coach looks on Twamasal, who took over last year late in the season when they parted ways with Taylor Jenkins in late March. that did win 48 games last year, but had to play their way into the playoffs where they got knocked out in the first round by Oklahoma City. That’s Norman Powell. A triple for Powell. He’s been excellent in the preseason with those three-point shots. He’s been so efficient this time off a catch and shoot on that left wing and got to look to get him as many shots as possible coming off those down screens. His first lead of the game, followed by a DaVon Mitchell foul. It’s the Heat’s first foul last season for Cleveland. made 111 threes and did average about 12 points a game in Cleveland’s playoff run. Santi Aldama missing the quarter three. Offensive board bounces long to tie Jerome. That has been a sore spot for the Heat giving up offensive boards. Alama bouncing in a landing deflected away by wear on a kick season for him at 17 points and 11 boards a game. By the way, rebounds. How about six for Memphis and none for Miami. We’re almost four minutes in. Ty Jerome got in front of Mitchell and draws a second personal foul on Davon. What Ty Jerome does so well is he uses his body. He gets in front of the defender and he seals him. Puts him on his back and then you own the guy. here comes to Memphis on a three-year $28 million deal is that would be two really good playmakers obviously for Memphis to have those guys as ball handlers. John Mor really good getting to the basket and and being able to finish and get into the paint and tie Jerome with that outstanding three-point shooting range. Drew Smith has come on to the heat replacing KD Mitchell who sits with a two-point foul. Wiggins losing the ball for the Heat’s first turnover. two-point Miami lead and a timeout for Twamasal ball and the playmaking he brings. But also the defense really focuses on on someone like Tyler. They scheme against him that makes the game easier for Wiggins and Powell and Kel Wear and Bam and just frees them up more where they’re not getting some of the best defenders guarding them. Jaylen Wells, who already has a couple of threes, missed that one. And Kel Wear, a sevenfooter that can board and advance the basketball and do a number of other things at a very high level for such a young player. Bam posting wells, got fouled. And Bam Adabio will go to the free throw line looking for his first points of this game. We talked about in the open being able to have focus on the offensive end. You can’t always play uh motion offense at times. You got to get the ball in key junctures to your best players to make plays. And right here they spot a size advantage in the post is 66 and take advantage of him drawing a foul and getting to the line. Grizzlies have made a couple of changes. Two rookies are in the game that have had good preseasons. Number 10, Javon Small, 22-year-old out of Washington State, scoring 11 points per game after nearly a year off from injury. team with a one-point lead. That’s Javon Small. He’ll fire inside Landale who scored on the much smaller Drew Smith and he takes up a lot of space at 611. Really deep post up on the dive cut. A nice pass by the point guard small. Yeah, good decision for him. No small order there. Wiggins for ducks in does not finish but does earn himself a trip to the free throw strike for the first time tonight. on the ball trying to go off the glass there with the English. Fell second team all rookie last year averaged nine points, seven rebounds a game, shot 55%. L all rookies with 15 double doubles as Cowwell Pope comes in. Aldama Wells and Landale sit. Olivier Maxends prosper third year in Marquette also in now for for Memphis. Well, the Heat with a three-point lead. Hello winner getting his first two points of the game. Inside this is Jiren Jackson Jr. flips it in with a left hand. What a talented offensive player heading into his eighth season out of Michigan State. A first time all-star three years ago. Also chosen the defensive player of the year in that season. Bam. Euro stepping. It’s a tough shot. Good attack mode by Bam to the Euro finish there and bulldozing his way in with a right hand runner. Bam. Hit that one right over the top of Max’s Prosper. Three-point Heatley. The lob broken up by Wear using that wingspan to his advantage on the defensive end. Another turnover. Powell missing from three. Bam on the offensive glass. We wear thought about three. Spinning to the paint. Bam. Another offensive forward and put back. Excellent work on the glass. Love that tandem in there with Bam kicking it out to Wear and then Wear wheeling inside and Bam continuing to work with the put back opportunity. Offensive rebound here. Offensive foul on important second chance points. They’re starting to even out that rebounding battle as Ban and Kell wear attacking that rim. Couple of offensive rebounds for Ban before coming out and being replaced by Haime Hawz Jr. who’s had a good preseason. Norman Kaboom. Norman Powell a couple of first quarter triples. He has eight of Miami’s first 18 points. And John of Norman Powell, a lot expected early in the season from him offensively. Well, he’s been delivering. There’s a down screen. Kel averaging 14 and a half points a game in the preseason for the Heat. playing about 18 20 minutes a night in these preseason games. The Heat with an eight-point lead. Jiren Jackson Jr. Heat loves the three ball. Comes down to Andrew Wiggins. Get ahead to Powell again. The Heat get across quickly. Powell unable to capitalize. Now the Grizzlies try to push tempo. Accents Prosper draws the foul on Hawkins. First on him, a third team foul on the Heat. actually the fourth on Miami here in this first quarter. So the Grizzlies 0 and4 in the preseason, three losses coming at home. They’ve allowed 129 points per game. They’ve been outscored by 17 points per game. And John, so far in the preseason, they’ve given up at least 121 points. in all four of their games. That that includes the 145 they gave up to Charlotte on Wednesday on a 29-point loss. I I asked her full-time first year head coach what’s up with the defense before the game. He he pointed to the injuries to Brandon Clark and Zack Edy and Jiren Jackson Jr. Yeah, just talking about how they don’t have their shot block. You got to have better containment out front with your guys to take away those kind of drives and finishes around the rim. Powell on the miss and here comes Orlando. lets John Kchar in. Former Purdue Boiler Maker Jar Jackson Jr. finds Kchar and he knocks in a triple. John Kawar just one for seven from three coming into this game in the preseason. Three-point Heat lead will try one. Bounces off to Drew Smith who goes up and missed it but drew a foul. And that’s going to go against Javon Small under the bed. Season gave up 128 to Detroit. 121 to Boston, 122 to Atlanta, and 145 the other night against Charlotte. A game they got outrebounded 56- 33. It was a bizarre game. The Grizzlies took 60 threes in that game. They made 26 of them. So 60 of their 96 shots were from downtown. How about making 26 threes and still losing by that happen? Charlotte, by the way, went 20 out of 50 in that game from Florida. The fireworks in the Queen City Wednesday night. Small triples. Javon Small, second round pick. He is originally from South Bend, Indiana. Played a couple years at East Carolina. A season at Oklahoma State and finished up last year West Virginia. Hakez finds Smith out on the edges. Now wear against Jiren Jackson. Oh, set him up perfectly for that jump up. Beautiful left hand, too. As a right-handed player, he’s got such natural touch with that left hand. Works at it. Takes that big dribble across the the paint there to get that left hand shot over the former defensive player of the year. Four points for Kell tonight’s leading scorer and best player in the preseason. Six on the shot clock for the Grizz Kar. And he gets fouled. I think it’s on Drew Smith. Soft foul through just natural. He’s doing it against, you know, a really strong defender at 611240. And Jiren Fonteio in for Norman Powell Kar missing the second. Another rebound for Wear who has four points and three boards. Azell Smith contact. Two free throws coming for Drew Smith. John, we watch preseason games. It’s anybody’s guess who Coach Spo is going to go with in that front court with Dan starting Wednesday night in Orlando. Yeah, I I agree. But at the same time, I I like the way they play together. I think it’s comfortable out there. I I see, you know, a natural synergy at the same time with he and Bam. And it hasn’t been easy over the years to find someone who can compliment Bam. He’s a unique player in his own right. Kle has that outside shooting ability to stretch the floor or he can go inside with his length and finish. So, you know, really really nice skill set. The young player has Larson in for the heat defending Cowwell Pope who comes up short. Ball on the floor. Drew Smith to the floor, but Prosper with the loose ball. Here is Max ends Prosper missing the corner three. get that defensive board and Drew Smith does. Heat ahead by five. 238 left. First period. Oh, the steal by Max Prosper on the Larson pass turns into that from Caldwell Poe. The 13-year vet out of Georgia. Contavius Cowwell Pope coming over in the mega trade with a magic that sent Desmond Bane from Memphis to Orlando. Missed on the move. Here comes Javon Small. pull up three and Small drains it. John, this hard-nosed defensive minded player who played 97 collegiate games. Ty Jerome with some injuries in the preseason. John missing the whole preseason. Javon guarded by Jaylen Wells. Bam’s back in. He works against Landale. And John, this is the best segment of offense we’ve seen from Bam in the preseason. He already has eight points. Actually, seven points. Really comfortable there. Ball fake, hard right hand drive, getting to that bank shot. Just seems much more settled in. He not pressing at all, letting the game come to him, but still looking for his opportunities aggressively. Jacqu Landale, veteran who came in on a one-year contract. He’s got five points, two for two shoot. Here’s Pam again, and this time it spins out down to Santi Aldama. Grizzlies ahead by a point with a minute 16 left here in the first quarter. Both teams seeking their first preseason win here in their final preseason game. These are two of the four winless teams left in the NBA preseason. Five on the shot clock. Wells denied, tipped up, and taken down by Pan. He doing a better job of defensive boarding. Fonteo. Kaboom. They are hoping Fonteio can do that. He came into this game just 1 for8 from three in the preseason. A good pitch ahead there finding him on that right wing and Bam with that reversal pass gets Fonteo a clean look. Wells missing that corner three and Bam deflecting it over to Simone Fontekio. Pam Adabaya the the do everything front court star of the Heat. Hakez for three. Kaboom. A rattled triple for Hakez. John, he’s four of seven from the long ball area here in the preseason. I like how he didn’t hesitate at all right there. Drew Smith, little onest one step dribble drive and kick to get Hz that open look. And he didn’t hesitate. Let it fly. And that one goes down. And again, that will only help his drive game as the defense has to come out and respect his ability to make those threes. Oh, Drew Smith taking the ball away from Cam Spencer there, but he’s going to be called for the foul. It’s a good shot for a lot of these players who work at it who are in the call it high 30% range or to early 40%. If you’re that good beyond the arc, you got to take those shots as a catch and shoot more on the dribble pullup when you have an open one. from Baltimore. Went to Fame Boy Latin High School, a school school well known for its outstanding lacrosse. Spent three years at Lyola, then a season at Ruckers before finishing his career as a national champ at the University of Connecticut. Bam. Missing the three. And the first quarter comes to a close.
