Why You SHOULDN’T Trade Draft Picks In The NHL
Let me tell you why you should not trade draft picks in the NHL. In 2022, the Edmonton Oilers traded a second round pick and a seventhround pick to the Montreal Canadians for Brett Collick. That second round pick turned into Lane Hudson. And it only gets worse when you consider the fact that the Edmonton Oilers have a history of trade and draft picks that turn into superstars. But not every team gets burned though. Just look at the Dallas Stars for example. They somehow traded for draft picks that turned into four franchise players like Jay Gottinger, Jaime Ben, Wyatt Johnston, and Roe Hints. And what’s crazy about this is that the Stars also traded the Mark Stone pick. And it’s not just Dallas. Look what Steve Eisman did with the Tampa Bay Lightning during his time as general manager. He traded Kyle Quincy for the pick that ended up becoming Andre Bazalefki. Then traded up one spot with the Minnesota Wild in the 2014 draft to select Braden Point. That’s dynasty level tradein right there. Even late round swaps can change history like the one that gave the Minnesota Wild Carill Capri off in 2015. Just goes to show that every single NHL draft pick matters.

Hutson the goat
Brett kulick?
Vegas trades draft picks, and you guys are so jealous of vgk you start to make stuff up and talk smack.
Where's the guarantee the Oilers would have selected Hutson?
A lot of teams traded picks that turned to nothing. It's like any other trade, it's a risk.
I love how you name every team, except for the redwings who traded for Quincy
Lol. This is dumb. Who’s to say that they actually would have selected those players?
The thing is, draft pics if they arent in first round top 3 they mean absolutely nothing and 95% of them turn in to nothing, meaningles names in your system. If id be gm i would trad every single draft pick i had other than first rounder to get actual players
"Dynasty level trading"…no, it's called "luck" buddy
Hindsight is 20/20 and you need good scouts and development, if you’re a contending team sure trade your picks if it leads you to Stanley cup.
This video is a proof that people say all sorts of shit just to make the video.
Draft picks are magic beans. Based on statistics alone, teams are actually better off to trade them, in moderation of course and not like Tampa for Tanner Jeannot lol
Very few athletes are complete and ready to contribute at a pro level when they are 18.
Draft selection is nothing compared to development.
Lane Hutson was passed over by all 32 teams. Was also passed over by most of the league twice. They had their opportunity to draft him but didn’t. This doesn’t really make your point any good
Do a video on traded picks that missed.
