Postgame Media | Jon Cooper

All right, Coupe, you start this game with some different line combinations. What did you like about the trio of Homeberg, Gourd, and Borkstran? Uh, well, the fact that they were great on both ends of the ice. um you know some new players you know guys that weren’t with us till you know homie wasn’t here this year and and you know Gordo and and Borki I knew a little but these guys u little chemistry between them and they have an ability to play in the both end of defend and as you saw tonight generate some offense so uh that was a you know that group was really good for us tonight. Along those same lines, Holberg is the newest addition to this team. You’ve only seen him in four games, one being a preseason game. Did you learn anything new about him in this one? Well, he’s heavy and it was uh, you know, was unfortunate for him. He took a couple penalties, but he uh I mean makes a allworld play on the, you know, assist to Gourd. That was that that sent the bench off, but he can puck protect. He’s heavy. He’s um and he can think it out. So it was gritty, gutty, like he’s got a lot of intangibles you’re looking for. So it was a good effort by him tonight. John, given the way the first two games went, you know, how much does, you know, maybe some of the things that you guys overcame tonight, the the penalties, you know, some of the they stop the face. Yeah. So like here it was great. We got the win obviously, but the the way we got to the, you know, the lead and the 4-1 lead and there was a lot of winning hockey in there. And the reason we went, you know, we took a little bit of a step back and gave it up because we got away from winning hockey and, you know, Jar will be the first to tell you probably a tough pinch on his part. Uh, and then, you know, it’s four and four and whatever, we lose a draw and they, you know, shooter throws at the net. So, you know, 4-1 goes to 4-3 and now you’re grinding. And so, there was so much good about tonight. Um, and there was a lot of winning habits. we just got to keep shuffling the losing wins out and uh but the compete and you know to go down short-handed at the end there and huge draws by Tony um it was you just we needed that and so hopefully we can continue that uh moving forward. And how much of a grind does it make it especially even down to the end you mentioned those those last few moments when when you guys are having that kind of day in the dot? Yeah, it was a tough day in the dot and again something we have to get better at. Um, but there’s, you know, everybody looks at faceoffs and goes, it’s on the center. Well, there’s other guys out there, too. And, and you look at some of these draws, not there, their center’s not stroking them back, too. It’s, you know, the guys helping out. So, um, it was one of those nights for us, but it was, uh, fortunately, you know, when we broke down, you know, JJ, what an effort by him tonight, and he was there to make the big save for us.
