How is it this bad already?!?

H it only took the Sabresh it only took the Sabres three games for someone to throw a jersey on the ice and three games for the bad vibes to leak out to the media. Before we get to I have to share this absolutely insane graph which has been floating around online. So sorry I don’t know who initially put it together but I do think it provides a lot of context for why this is more than just a bad start to a season. This graph shows the Sabres cumulative wins and losses above 500 over time. So you can see for the first few years they struggled as most expansion teams especially of that era did. But until 2011 they continued to have consistently winning seasons and to build up at their height in early 2011 a plus 276 games won more than lost. So at that time their record had 276 more wins which seems impressive. Also in 2011, the Pagoulas got the Sabres. And you can see since that point, they’ve not only had losing seasons, it’s been so bad and so consistent that within a couple of years, they’ll be below 500. All that to say is that it feels like things could be headed towards a boiling point. And after today’s loss against Colorado, Ta Thompson had one of the roughest postgame responses in a while for only being three games into a season. Three games into a season where they’ve lost all three while only scoring two total goals and not playing anything close to inspiring hockey. Even if they don’t want to admit it, I’d say it’s clearly getting to them. And they must have seen the video we did the other day with the young fellas walking home from the home opener. Anyway, take a listen to Tage here. Obviously, going 0 and3 to start the season is not where you want to be at all. And um what do you need to do to create more chances in the third period? Have the puck on your stick. can’t keep looking back. I mean, the last three games, the last four seasons, the last 14 season, whatever you want to do. I’m tired of talking about the past and tired of talking about, well, we’re in three games. So, um, we’ll take some questions on on Wednesday if you got them. Would you describe then the morale in this locker room? Um, yeah, I mean, it’s not a good morale when you’re losing. This context is why it’s more than just three games and why Elliot Freeman explained on 32 thoughts that big pieces of the Sabres like Tae Thompson, like Dene need something to change, not just soon, but this season and this is not the start they’ve hoped for. Anyway, regarding the game with the Avalanche specifically, you knew they were getting dummy by Mack. Two goals for him on Canadian Thanksgiving, by the way. Happy Thanksgiving, fellow Canucks. Hopefully Nate’s got a big turkey waiting for him at home. But he gets one for the abs with a beautiful backhand as he comes in ripping hot off the bench and just a great move as he takes the pass, tucks it around his back. There is no angrier hockey player in the world than Nathan McKinnon. He flicks it. One- nothing Mountain Men. Mack would crank one off the bar minutes later. Taage Thompson, the man of the hour, actually would tie it up at once with a long shot from the point. They will take that, but like I said, two goals in three games. So that was number two and they’re not making it look sexy. The next goal is just a heartbreaker. Captain Dene, I want him to succeed, but I don’t know at this point. He costs it up in the middle to Chushkin who gets it over to Kale Mar for his first of the year. And then the third one, Nous with a great zone entry. Dumps it off to Mack as he rotates and Nate Dog has a bit of a cheeky one. He just goes to work with the stick handling, dances his man, pumps a quick one as he catches Lion moving and it’s 31 ABS. I don’t know. There’s something seriously structurally wrong with Buffalo as an organization because how many years have they done poorly, then done okay just enough to miss the playoffs and get a poor draft pick? How many times have we seen Sabres players like Dalene, like Tage Thompson, like Jack Eel leave the team that absolutely flourish somewhere else? And of course, about 2 seconds from the final horn, a Sabres fan feeling that same Kofka-esque dread I just discussed, plops his jersey down on the ice. And I don’t know, could McKenna save this team? Would he break this team somehow more? Reminds me a lot also of the Edmonton Oilers who got so many first round draft picks in the 2000s.
