Memphis Grizzlies Vs Miami Heat Full Game 2nd-Qtr | Oct 17, 2025 NBA Preseason TODAY
This is what they’re going to need from Bam Adabio throughout the course of the season. And John, bit of good news. Some fresh air in the first quarter and he allowed just two offensive rebounds to Memphis. They open the second quarter with a three-point lead. A lineup of Adabio Larson Smith, Jack Londale, and Wells. Here’s Spencer inside to Aldo outside of Max Prosper against Hakez. And it’s Landale musling that up to the offensive board and score. He continues to be super active finishing around the basket. Couple of putbacks for him along with a three. He’s got several points. That’s a nice stretch out score for playing in his fourth game of the preseason after missing the first two with that Bruce Qu. That’s a nice move and a score. Jaylen Wells. Eight points for him. and they they’re expecting bigger things out of a guy that was the fourth hundred. Finished third in the rookie of the year voting a season ago and obviously made the first team all rookie uh team. So impressive year for the young man and and expectations high right now for the Grizzlies with what he’s capable of doing this season. Drew Smith out for Miami. DaVon Mitchell returns. Grizzlies have tied the game at 34. Hakez had the rug pulled out from under. Can he get it the ball off? He does. Almost a travel. Fontekio off a shot fake. Could not connect. And the rebound comes down to Landale who has seven points and three first half rebounds. Attent a three and drilling. Sandy Aldama. Good player, sevenfooter. Made 120 triples last year, John, and did it at a 37%. Yeah, I really like his game. Very very skilled for a big man at seven feet. Uh can stretch the floor as a stretch four or five. Rebounds the ball well. Oh, pretty shot for Fonteio. His second triple of this game. Fonteio lower leg injury earlier in the preseason. This is his third game of the preseason trying to earn his minutes. Assist on 12 makes. So ball’s moving. Spacing’s good for Miami, making it more challenging for the defenders to lock in. Fonte, of course, coming to the Heat from the Pistons in the July trade that involved Duncan Robbins. That’s good defense by Fonteio. Nowhere to go for Aldama. And the Heat will get it back just two minutes into this second quarter. Standing strong. John Fonteio looks like a rugged perimeter defender. Here’s DaVon Mitchell. From rugged to dogged. There’s Bam. Doted line jumper. Oh, Bam Adabio looking like the former all-star he has been. Adabio tonight with nine. That’s a triple Cam Spencer. That’s what he can do. He seven uh 27footer right there for Cam Spencer. He’s got serious range beyond the arc. Spencer with 19 triples last year. Davian’s pass went skipping by Larson. That was low. That was like down by his shins right there. Right ideabody to catch one point tremendous lead. This is Spencer high post Jiren Jackson. Excellent match up against Bam. That’s strength against strength right there. Bam won that little skirmish. Here comes Fontki. Grizzlies get back. Transition defense has been a weakness for them in the preseason. Larson short. Bam. third offensive board of the half and that earns him another trip to the free throw. Found the smaller player and draw the foul. Wells, Jaylen Wells picks up his first foul. Bam with 10 points and four rebounds tonight as Spencer. They really need to get John back. They hope in time for the for their opener against New Orleans. Brandon Clark and and Zack Ed have to wait a little longer for those two front court players that they rely on. It’s amazing John Moranny. I mean only 59 games over the last two seasons. They really really have missed him. He created so much offense for them but he’s just has not been dependable on the floor due to injuries and you know conduct detrimental to the team. just he’s really got to be a consistent force out there for them this season to have the kind of year they want to have. You know, last two seasons with and without Moran tell a very important story for Memphis. Wells on each scores. Jaylen Wells, he he’s going to find a way to get on the scoreboard. He’s having a big first half at 11. And Fonteio back quickly for Miami. Well, eight points off the bench in a hurry for Fonteo in just seven minutes. We are even at 42 and not for long because Larson, the NBA’s equivalent of of running into the kicker, fouling the three-point shooter. You know, roughing the kicker hurts you as a football fan. Fouling the three-point shooter hits you right in the in the gut as a basketball fan. It does. Particularly on these a year ago, so not great. You want to be more disciplined on your closeout to prevent those kind of fouls. Let’s pause for a quick word from Morgan and Morgan. I’m often asked how’d you become the largest injury firm in the world along with Jaylen Wells. It’s a impressive group of secondyear players that they have with with some talented veterans. John Edy and Kel Wear highlighted a very impressive group of rookie big men last year. Miami’s down by three. 738 left in the half. That’s DaVon Mitchell kabooming from the corner. Mitchell made 84 triples last year and a career-high 40% from downtown. Ties the game at 45. Loose ball tipped out and unable to save it in was KCP. So John, we were talking about with and without Mor over the last two seasons. In the 59 games he has played, they’re 36 and 23. That’s 13 over 500 in the 166. It’s huge. And again, they’ve had really talented teams, uh, but they’ve really missed his ability to create offense through his penetration, his ability to finish, and he’s got to mature this year at a high level. And this team otherwise will will not achieve anywhere near where they’re capable. Yeah. And there is Jean Morant, who averaged 23 points per game last year. He’s a two-time NBA All-Star, the face of that franchise. Kell missing the three. Rebound comes down to Jiren Jackson Jr. Jiren Jackson got a a nice looking contract extension in the offseason. John Morant the next one due for an extension. It’s one of the reasons they probably had the part with Desmond B who will now start the season in the Orlando Magic back court. You’ll see them Wednesday in Orlando. Norman Powell. Norman Powell consistent 10 points in 10 minutes tonight. You can see why he was having a careerhigh 21 points a game a year ago in LA. Just so complete as an offensive player. Norman Pal. Look at this Javon Small. He’s come into the game and made an impact with eight quick points. Looks very comfortable out there with that pullup game. Davons in the paint. Gets deep gets the basket and the foul. Scrappy out there. that’s won three NBA titles, 16 division championships, seven seventh straight trip to the playoffs. By the way, belated congratulations to Heat head coach Eric Spolstra, officially named head coach to the USA men’s basketball team. He’ll guide them in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. We got a great halftime feature for you tonight. Walk away from your TV set at halftime. Make it brief. You’re going to want to watch this piece. Uh, US Olympic basketball coach Eric Spolstra. Yeah, really well earned. So excited for him. And what a ride it’s been for for coach Eric Spolstra. He just continues to leave his imprint on this game. Eric Spolstra giving credit to so many of his coaching mentors, including Pat Riley, who gave him his opportunity to be a head coach in the NBA. also mentioned the late great Hall of Famer Dr. Jack Ramsey as DaVon Mitchell scores for Miami. Miami ahead 52 to 47. 548 left here in the second quarter. Rick Adam also a huge coaching influence on Eric Spolster as he was growing up in a Wear got a piece of that. Here comes Wicens. Wicens all the way. Yes, that’s when he’s at his best. Running the floor, ball in his hand, able to op first field goal tonight for Wiggins. Now, a 30-year-old pro in his 12th season. Former number one pick out of Kansas. That was good defense by Mitchell. He stepped away and Coward lost his footing. Instead of a travel, they’re going to call a foul on Mitchell. And that’ll be his third. DaVon Mitchell looked pretty good there standing his ground and agree with you maybe pulled him a little bit with that offensive player looked more like he lost his balance. Coward with a bounce and boy that had a little Jear look to it. Javon Small 10 points off the bench in 10 minutes. That little fella’s made four of his first five shots and he’s got so little by the way. A 6′ 3 in point guard. Yeah. Can’t get beat on those cuts though. Got to stay between him and the basket. That was a breakdown by the Heat defense. Landale coming down with the rebound giving Kchar a chance and wear picks it off the rim. Going deep and it’s broken up and picked off by Cedric Coward. Young man’s out of Fresno Count going to coast to a foul on Wiggins. Be the first on Wiggins and the 15 foul putting Memphis into the bonus at 435 left here in the second. I just like the way Miami is trying to push pace though. They’ve done it tonight effectively and efficiently. They’re shooting 54% from the field on 19 of 35 shooting. Made six threes. They’ve been able to get to the line. It’s been a nice offensive attack thus far for Miami. By the way, John and I always appreciate sharing these NBA adventures with with Heat Nation tonight. We also Sports Sun. Yeah, Pete Brevin will see you guys soon enough as the season starts coming up next week. Yes, sir. In Memphis next Friday night, an at 8:00 p.m. start 7:30 for your Heat Live pregame. Oh, Powell’s pass wide on the Marquez. Let’s bounce out. It It’s going to be We will likely see Jean Moran for the Grizzlies in that game. the lightning quick explosive offensive start that he is. Yeah, he’s so talented out in front particularly in that high pick and roll action. So crafty and and challenging to contain him out there without foul. Here comes Wiggins with the Heat up 54. Hakez, nice dish. Kell cramming it through. Set up by the defense and the dish from Hawz. Miami uh already uh tonight, but it also will help pick up fouls. It wears down the other team throughout the course of the game and gets your team in in better offensive rhythm throughout the course, getting easier shots even when they’re not getting fast breaks in their half court offense. They’ll have more uncontested shots. Nice perimeter defensive segment to the Heat forcing an eighth turnover on Memphis. And the wear jump hook for Wear, you got a full offensive repertoire. He also has eight points and five rebounds here in the first half. That’s Spencer and that’s perfect. Cam Spencer scored 11 points with eight rebounds in the national championship game a couple years ago against Zack Edy and those Purdue Boiler Makers. Eight points off the bench for Spencer tonight. Here’s where underneath set up nicely by Norman Pal. I love that unselfish drop off by Pal. I think he can do more and more of that because he’s such a focus of the offense. Two defenders around him on that last play. Oh, Spencer doing a lot by himself. Wear securing another rebound and we get a whistle and a Memphis foul. The tech the tech on Cam Spencer have done a nice job of getting breaking out of the motion offense when they see they have a size advantage go right inside on that post up mismatch or if they have a skill mismatch being able to isolate and and get that guy whether it’s Norman Pal or um Andrew Wiggins the basketball where they can really attack that wing that’s doing it with bigger minutes and and he looks fresh and he’s very comfortable. and he’s doing it again tonight. What a target he is up there on that Jordan Norman. Nor Dorman Powell keeps finding Kell who has eight points in the quarter and a game high 12 points in this first half as the Heat have opened their largest lead to nine. 62 to 53. Heat shooting 59%. Alama hits the jump hook. Going into his fifth NBA season, Alama averaged 12 and a half points per game last year. That was a career best number for him. Hawkeyez missing a short little pull up. And here comes the rookie Cedric Call. A little over two minutes left here in the second quarter. Jayen Wells against Wiggins. Howard a three. And down it comes to wear collecting stats. That ball gets deflected out. It will. and he has played with great energy thus far. 15 minutes so far this this first half during the preseason he’s been he’s top scorer rebounder and three-point shooter as Wiggins nails one though. Andrew Wiggins with his fifth triple of the preseason and his first three ball of the game. And there he is again. Javon Small tripling. What a night for Small who has 13 points. He’s made five of his six shots. He’s impressive. He ahead by seven. Powell got fouled shooting a three by the veteran Contavius Cowwell Pope who picks up his second foul. Oh, that’s just a great draw and he does it against a veteran guy where he’s he’s a guy I think the heater are really going to have to lean on early in the season with Tyler Hero out. Norman Pal’s going to have to do a little bit of everything for Miami in the offensive end. Yeah, he’s up to it. a 32-year-old out of San Diego, California, drafted Portland the last four seasons in LA Clipper and one of the best maneuvers of the off season turning Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson and a guy that can get you 20 points a night. John half the heat have had here in the last two weeks. Powell makes all three of his free throws. Norman Powell tonight with 13 points, one of four double figure scorers from Miami. with a 10-point lead. Biggest lead of the game for Miami is Jiren Jackson Jr. misses on the hook. Aldama underneath, scores over Dan Adabio. Nice work by Santi Aldama who has all seven of his points in this quarter. Drew Smith against Wells. Three short long outlet. Wells got ahead of Powell for the slam dunk. Oh, Wells scoring again for them. 16 points for him. Yeah, someone’s got to cover the back court when Norman Pal’s shooting that three. They got to rotate back and and protect that run out. Wells able to get ahead of the field there with the layin. Here’s here’s Wells. Jiren Jackson Jr. with a hoist and he gets fouled on the close out by Kell Wear. First foul of the night against Wear going to result in three free throw near the shooting mark. Jiren Jackson Jr. the guy who’s given Memphis 22 points per game each of the last two seasons. Former fourth pick back in the 2018 draft. Of course, he’s the son of Jiren Jackson the first, who played for John Thompson at Georgetown between 1985 and 1989 and wound up 13 NBA seasons in and a champion with the 19 size. But his son Baron Jackson Jr. is a really big man in that front court at 6’11, 242 lbs and great wingspan. Four-point night for Jiren Jackson Jr. Four-point lead for Miami with just 9 seconds left in the half in the hands of Bam Adabio. Tough turn around.
