Postgame Media | Jon Cooper

where where do they kind of things get away from you in that first period? I don’t know to be honest that in that first I don’t know what the time of their first goal was but uh like it was probably halfway through the period or you know close to it and we were totally fine. I actually like the way we were playing. And then uh we gave one up and it uh it seemed like, you know, we just kind of lost our confidence or, you know, we kind of played more like not to lose the game than to win the game. And you just you could feel it on the bench. It was odd. Um been here a long time and haven’t really felt like that. It was just it was weird. And so, uh, it was tough to go down three, no question. And then, you know, we had a little reset after the first and, you know, clearly we were fine after that, but yeah, tough league to go down three zip in. Cook, you talked about needing to shift the mindset. Did you feel a difference from Thursday heading into tonight’s game? Uh, yeah, there’s no question. Right. I was uh you know if if I didn’t watch the first period at all to say I walked into a game after one I would have been like shocked to see the score. So hopefully that answers your question. How much was the second period you you mentioned the reset but just kind of getting back to the basics of your game for I think the big thing is when you’re when you’re struggling or it’s not going your way. I mean, I think if you watch the game, there’s a lot of uncharacteristic plays that were left out there that guys that are normally used to making them weren’t making them. And so, you know, that’s part of the reset, too. And then ultimately, you have to just go back to basic winning hockey habits. And um we did it for a while, but you know, clearly not enough. Maybe one bright spot tonight. Max Croer gets a couple points for you. What have you seen from him through his first two games this year? young young kid starting to get his feet in the league. So, he uh um but you know, he keeps growing all the time. It’s it’s uh you know, he’s he belongs in this league. He’s just got to keep learning. How do you find that balance just two games into the season, but also having a sense of urgency like, okay, we got to turn this thing around. Well, I think urgency won’t be a question with this group, but it’s just, you know, ultimately this it’s uh you know, we didn’t we just didn’t go from a good team to a bad team in two games. And the guys, the one thing is the guy’s hearts are all in the right place. Like there’s so many good things. It’s just, you know, if you lose two in a row in January is one thing, but when you lose game one and two in a, you know, in the beginning, it’s it’s uh, you know, it’s a little eye opening. So, um, a lot of runway left here. We just, you know, we just got some work to do. Are you happy to have kind of a quick turnar around? It’s not quite a backtoback, but early Monday and Yeah. Well, it’s this league now, especially with the Olympic break. There’s when there really isn’t a break, so games are just going to come flying at you. That’s why uh you know, urgency will set in here, pretty sure. John, do you think any of this might be that that you guys didn’t really play that a lot of guys didn’t play that much in the in the preseason or it’s, you know, we’ve dropped two in a row and haven’t played our best. So now you can, you know, point to a lot of things, so I guess that could be one of them, but um and we we’ve a lot of veterans on this team, so I I to me that’s not the case. No. You said you were kind of the feeling on the bench in the first was kind of weird. Like what kind of caught you off guard with the way that Well, it just the you know go go goal. That was that was it. And they weren’t um they were just uncharacteristic things were happening or you look at it and you’re like, “Oh, I mean, how’d that puck not get out? All of a sudden it’s in your net.” And just things like that. And I it’s also how probably a carryover of how the Ottawa game ended. you know, you go into that and there’s a couple minutes left, you think you’re getting a point out of it, you get nothing out of it, and then all of a sudden this snowballs and so it uh you know, that’s what I was Yeah.
