DETROIT RED WINGS TRADE UPDATE: STEVE YZERMAN’S NEXT MOVE REVEALED?
[Music] Well, we’ve got ourselves some Detroit Red Wings trade updates heading into today’s NHL action. Now, the Wings are going to be playing off against the Tampa Bay Lightning at 4:00 p.m. PST, 700 p.m. Eastern. And unfortunately, at the time of me speaking into this microphone, I personally do not know if Lucas Raymond’s going to be in the lineup. Now, this video is going to be uploaded and public on YouTube a lot later than the time I’m speaking into this microphone. So, by the time you’re watching this, maybe there actually is a verdict. Maybe we know what happens with Raymond if he plays, if he doesn’t. But the Red Wings actually did look pretty good when he wasn’t in the lineup against Florida the other day. Not saying that him not being there is very welcoming, though. I’d love to have him back, especially for my fantasy team. I need the points. But instead of focusing on Detroit Red Wings game action, let’s talk about some of the other things that do relate to how the team is assembled today because we have ourselves an update from David Pota as to how the Detroit Red Wings want to proceed this year. I’m going to leave a link in the description to this article posted on redwings.com by Bruce Raymond. Don’t believe he’s a relative of Lucas, but I digress. The article is titled that Steve Eisermanman officially placing two defensemen on the trade block as a star prospect stolen a roster spot. The title’s kind of weird, kind of clickbay. You know, I kind of do this for a living, so I understand how the clickbait works. But there is a quote from David Penota in this piece that I wanted to dive into here. Take a look at what Penota said on a recent appearance on the DFO Rundown podcast highlighting a new report regarding the Red Wings next move. There’s some talk that the Wings are looking at and open to moving some of their defensemen, Penota said to the DFO rundown host Aron Gafar on October 15th. And I think there is mutual interest from the player side of things. Eric Gustoson and Travis Hamick. Those are a couple of veteran pieces that they have brought in. And it doesn’t look like there is much room for some of these guys. I think they’ve started to explore the possibility of moving them or at least letting everybody know that there’s some availability there. With respect to those guys, this is what Penota then followed up with. This is a team that’s been looking for added offense. Pñota added, “We know this is a club that has been looking at the center position as well, just in terms of adding and strengthening the overall roster.” Now, duh. Montreal’s looking for a center. Vancouver’s looking for a center. A bunch of teams are looking for a center. Detroit’s looking for a center. Yeah, that makes sense. But it’s also kind of interesting. It’s like, yeah, I mean, the team’s looking for offense. Oh, yeah. Not like every NHL team would welcome offensive tools being added to their squad. Okay. Enough poking fun of Penota. He says this here. The Red Wings signed a lot of defensemen this past summer for some reason. I think they were trying to decide if their younger guys were ready to start making those inroads into a full-time NHL slot and they weren’t so sure. So, they cushioned it. That is when the host of the podcast expressed the defender who started this ripple effect. I guess a lot of it has to do with the play of Axel Sandine Pelica. Kafar said to Penota, “There’s a guy who probably they didn’t know what to expect out of, and now he’s probably quarterback for Power Play, too. At least in the early going, it’s looking good.” Pñota chimed back. He’s taken those steps and earning that additional ice time, which is pushing some of the veteran guys out, even some of the newer ones. And so essentially what’s being discussed here is that according to David Pñota, seems like the Red Wings are interested in moving on from the services of Travis Hamick andor Eric Gustoson. An idea that both of these players would also welcome based off of what’s happened so far this year. And I say what’s happened so far this year, quote unquote, as if it was a really big deal. But really, nah, it’s not really that big of a deal. these guys. Yes, it’s true there were folks that were expecting them to have some sort of NHL projectability heading into the season, but I honestly do subscribe to that idea that says that part of the reason they were even acquired by Detroit was as insurance. Just in case Axel Santine Pelica wasn’t good enough to start in the NHL. Just in case Albert Johansson needed a little bit more training wheels. just in case these younger players were not ready to make that step. And now you’re taking a look at it like, okay, Jacob Bernard Docker, pretty strong depth defenseman, a lot better than Travis Hamick and a lot better than Justin Hall. You also had Eric Gustoson who straight up got beat. He was outplayed by a bunch of these other younger dudes and wasn’t given a roster spot because of it. You don’t need him necessarily running top power play. You can just leave it the cider and it’s fine. Now hearing that both of these guys in Gustoson and Hamik would be welcome to a change of scenery and that the wings are trying to move him. It makes sense in my opinion. You might be saying, “All right, well Eric Gustoson, he was sent on waiverss, right? And he didn’t get claimed, right? So why would a team go out there and trade for him if he was available for free and nobody ended up getting him?” Well, that’s the thing. Now that they have cleared waiverss, that part of their status is going to be there for a while. So there is extra added value if you are an NHL team that’s trading for a Hamik or Augustson because now if they stink, you can send them to the AHL scot-free. And it’s not like you’re losing out on him on waiverss for nothing because he gets claimed. Again, there is extra added value with players being nonwaver eligible. So, while it doesn’t last forever, it could be seen as a pretty interesting stop gap type of acquisition for a team that maybe has a little bit of a defensive bubble that needs to be patted on a little bit more. So for Detroit, I mean there is a chance that they are able to move on from these guys, assuming they fully believe that the younger dudes, Axel, Santine, Pelica, Johansson, Edinson, etc. are able to fully hold their role long term. And I say longterm, I mean like over the course of a full 82 game season. There were enough roster spots to include one young rookie. And a lot of folks were wondering, okay, who’s it going to be? Is it going to be ASP or a Finny or what have you? Is Danielson going to still be on the team when he comes back from injury? And then it was like, all right, well, exclude Danielson because he’s hurt. But they ended up keeping all three of the young rookies, MBN, ASP, Finny, and they sent down Gustoson and Justin Hall to do so. Now, Travis Hamick is going through that same situation over here. But I think it’s a really good sign that everything that Steve Eisermanman did in the summer as potential bubble wrap for the team just in case the young guys weren’t ready. It’s really nice to be able to peel back that plastic layer of film and say that yeah, the product underneath ASP, JBD, these guys, they’re doing pretty well and we don’t really need that insurance anymore. We don’t need Travis Hamick chilling in the system just in case we think that some of these other younger guys are not ready or capable of holding their own at the NHL level. So, with that in mind, let me know your thoughts in the comments section below about this Detroit Red Wings trade update. These younger defensemen, these younger players, they’ve really shown off well, and I think there’s so much more to be excited for heading into the rest of the year. We’ll see how well everybody can fare throughout the course of not just today’s game, but the rest of the season 2. If you enjoyed this video, feel free to hit the like button. If you did not, then hey, the dislike button is down there for you as well. Thoughts in the comments section below about the Detroit Red Wings. Which teams do you think exist out there that could actually use an Eric Gustoson or a Travis Hamick? I know there are going to be so many folks that joke around in the comments and say, “Huh, Travis Hamick? Yeah, no team could use that guy. He sucks. But yeah, let’s try to be nice here, folks. Okay, I’m not really being nice. I’m the one who started it, wasn’t I? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. I hope you enjoyed this roll and bye. [Music] [Music]

Not sure why Detroit would want a center. Even if u want to upgrade Rasmussen on the fourth line u have Danielson in a month or two. Rotate some talent around. Also if yzerman can get anything for Gustafson or Hamonic I would eat my shorts lol. I mean any one of us would be thrilled for a 2030 7th round pick for either one of them.
Red wings announced Raymond will not play tonight
If we have guys we can't/aren't using, like Gus and Hamonic, then let's do something with 'em. Futures, 4th-7th rounder, whatever. We're not gonna get much more than that, though.
Hamonic was an abomination in the one game he played, and Gus wasn't picked up on waivers. Neither have any trade value much less enough for a serviceable forward. The whole article is silly.
Anyone could have had Gus for free, he was waived and no one claimed him. Why would anyone move an asset for him now?
I could have told steve Hamonic is washed before he signed him. he should have reached out to me
I would truly love to see Steave y do what he has to do to get his hands on Artemi Panarin.. he’s the perfect player for when Patrick Kane leaves. and he will be leaving. He’s 37 years old.
Hogwash podcast!!!!!
With the salary cap going up the way it is, it appears that the days of bringing in free agents isn't what it used to be. Hence, the reasoning behind Yzerman finally having to let the kids play on the main roster. What a blessing!
If the Wings can play solid w/o Razor, it makes a good case that everyone underestimated them this year.
ASP not only mans PP2 but also plays PK2. Hasn't looked out of place. Just wait until he gets that grown man strength. ASP/Edvinson was always an ideal 2nd pair. L/R, defense/offense and size/speed. This is a very high quality 10 year D pairing. Now they need a LD partner for Seider long term.
Did you buy 50k subs on your channel?
🤔 Wings put both D on waivers and 31 teams passed on them, but yet they will now try to trade them 😂
Hamonic is completely cooked, absolutely devoid of any quality left as an NHL defenseman. . . which would easily make him a top 3 defenseman in Chicago so I think that's the way to go.
Maybe he can replicate his stellar Jake Walman trade and give another team a draft pick just to take a good player off our hands. And if not that, I’m praying he can at least bring Mrazek back.
Dahlin would be a perfect fit. Buffalo sucks and we need thst left handed stud. Trade some first round picks
We waived Gus and everyone passed. We'll have to hope another teams situation changes and needs a dman. Still won't be a big haul. But a pick is a pick
If the Wings swing a trade with BUF for either Thompson or Tuch by giving up Rasmussen and 2026 third round, I'm all for it. Rasmussen reminds me too much of Anthony Mantha.
