“Passion. That’s Sabres Hockey.” | Buffalo Coach Lindy Ruff After Shutout Win Over Florida Panthers

You had to kill a penalty right off the bat. Do a good job of it. Did a good job all night. You killed seven of them. I mean, but it just seemed like overall you had to be pleased with what you saw. Yeah, pleased with every almost every asset of the game from uh special teams, goalending, our five on five play, uh the speed we played the game. I thought uh really good game. What about the physicality aspect? I mean, you’re clear in the front of the net. You’re hard on the walls in this game. I mean, we saw it from multiple guys in the club the whole game. Yeah. Well, it, you know, it’s something that, you know, we’ve stressed, you know, around the front of our net. I think, uh, uh, you saw Samson two or three times, really hard on guys. Um, really physical. Um, just everywhere. I think it was a it was a pack mentality and was a team effort on on every part of that. You know, Z’s a very talented player, but it seems to be on a different level these first couple. Just what have you noticed about the way he’s been creating? Um like just quick uh you know coming back in the lineup the the plays he’s making and and how quick he’s playing and you know he’s got a there’s another level to his speed right now. Lindy, you’re this is a very emotional game. A lot of tempers flaring. Brad Marshon takes Ras Mustallin’s helmet hostage. But how did your team feed off all the emotion in a positive way rather than letting it overwhelm them? No, I think the exactly what we said. They fed off it. Um it was just there was a lot of emotion in the game. A lot of passion. That’s that’s for me a Sabres hockey right there. Passion. I thought there was passion right from the start. Killing the penalty right off the start. The physicality. Um, every guy I I thought had a good night for us. Uh, concussion uh protocol stuff. What about the tone set on those early PKs and just he carried it through the whole game and really he’s been your best guy for five years? Yeah, he sure has. Uh, you know, and we’ve put him through quite a test with the number of games we’ve played him. Uh, he’s, you know, exceeded probably where we thought he would be. I thought uh tonight u great effort on those early PKs. He had to fight through a couple screens. Um I thought penalty killers did a good job, but uh there were some holes that pucks were going through that he had to fight to see and he’d fight he fought the battle and I thought uh rock solid good with a puck. So it uh he helped us in the breakouts. Josh Dome and you guys both thought he had offensive growth potential. Maybe we’re seeing some of that now. just what have you seen from him these last couple that’s made him successful? Great guy in the puck getting around the puck getting to the net. Um really, you know, we I think we just seen a glimpse of his game. I think uh he’s done a nice job now being added to that power play and and getting around the front of the net. I think that’s uh one of the strengths he has. Um his puck retrievalss on the power play are very good. I think he’s helped us in a couple areas there. The elite teams like Florida We talked about yesterday even the way they stack games. You guys now have stacked two really good games in a row. Just what’s the process and keep building on that so it can be Well, I think it’s again uh not taking for granted how hard it was to win this game tonight. It was by no means that was they’re a good team. I mean, they have some players out, but they’re still good team. They’re deep. Um that defense is a good defense and that goalender is a really good goalender. We saw the number of saves he made and the number of oddnumbered rushes we had that we didn’t convert on. Um breakaways we didn’t convert on. You know, five on five structure. I thought we were a better team, but their goalie was, you know, he had his agame. Thanks.

  1. I've heard a lot of Lindy hate this past week, but the guy is a legend in my book, and always will be. He isn't responsible for years and years of dysfunction and drought for the Sabres and my fondest memories of watching a good, exciting Sabres team are from when he was coaching and getting the most out of his players.

  2. I was ready to drop off the ledge with being a fan but thank you for kicking @ss the last two games!!! Keep up the great work!!! Signed, Eric Lassard, Police Academy 2 (Let's hope this doesn't get reversed haha).

  3. These players have no idea what their lives would be like in this area and that arena if they could manage to put that effort out every night. This fan base is ready to explode. Imagine the noise level in that arena for the first playoff game in 14 years.

  4. They beat 2 teams missing tkachuks give them credit let’s see happens next 4 division games this week …… hope they continue to play hard and get to the net….. special teams are both quite impressive…… u gotta play hard every game on this league it’s a long season with ups and downs but there’s talent here and winning is contagious and confidence breeds success….. keep rolling….
