Boston Bruins vs. Colorado Avalanche | Game Preview | 10/18/2025

[Music] And there they go. Oh, okay. Hampus Lynholm. We’re going to be talking about him. As you guys may or may not know, but probably do know, he’s missed the last few games with the lower body injury. We are definitely going to discuss that. give you the latest as the Bruins arrive in the Mile High City at Ball Arena to take on the Colorado Avalanche Bruins trying to snap a twogame losing streak. And with that, we welcome you to Bruins Breakaway Live presented by Granite City Electric Supply in our Salem 5 studios. As I mentioned, Sophia, Billy, and Razer. As I mentioned, that twoame losing streak for the Boston Bruins by a goal in each one and close, but not good enough. Head coach Marco Sturm guys said obviously he’s not happy they lost but he said I’m kind of happy this happened because it exposed the mistakes and the things we need to work on. So what are some of those things they need to work on? Well two two different games that the the Tampa game felt a lot better than the Vegas game at least did for me and we talked about it this morning. Right. It had a different energy afterwards. So if after the Tampa game you lose you can work on a couple things like your start, right? Biggest thing, right? I think that Vegas game, neutral zone, puck management, like making the right decisions. I think they allowed the speed of of your your opponent in Vegas, which you’re going to see tonight, partner in in Colorado, may even be better. If you give them speed through the neutral zone, you can’t get set and you can’t do your thing. No, Marco wasn’t thrilled after the game against Vegas and and and I think he was okay. Everything had gone pretty well the first four games. They weren’t going to win 82, so I’m not going to lose my mind after one loss. Uh but the happens two games in a row. We talked at the end of the first period the other night against Vegas, the East West, the cross ice passes that aren’t connecting, that aren’t 100%. It’s got to get funneled to the net. That’s just the way he believes the game should be played. That’s the way he believes this team’s going to win and be successful. And they didn’t do it the other night. So, I I would expect that that was the message over the last 24 hours. Yep. We’ll see if they can deliver and how they show up today against the Colorado Avalanche. As you guys know, Adam Pelerin is on this road trip and he is rinkside with us today from Ballerina. So, we’re going to try to bring him in right now. Okay, I’m looking at this camera. Sorry about that. Uh, Adam, you’ve been following the Hampus Linholm story for us. Just to remind fans, he hasn’t played since the second game of the season. That was on October 9th. Just 4 minutes and 26 seconds of time on uh of TOI for him that day. He’s been skating with the team, though. And what can we expect tonight? Are we going to see him in the lineup? So, he’s a game time decision. Sophia and Marco Sturm said that this morning after Skate and he also said that it was trending in the right direction. If I were a betting man, I would say he is in the lineup tonight. We’ll see what happens though. But just to give you a little bit of a timeline, you started to do that as well. He plays in the opener against Washington. They have the home opener the next night. Second of a backto-back. Leaves with the injury in the first period, the lower body injury. does travel with the team and then takes part in practice on Wednesday in Las Vegas. Looked pretty good. Uh talked to the media afterwards. Sort of went through uh what had happened uh during the injury as uh get a little shove from behind here. I don’t know if I’m on camera or not, but uh got the uh starting goalender uh behind me getting his workout in uh stretching. Anyway, um just talking about uh you know what had happened. and he overextended himself on a play, felt a little bit of a pull and you know just being cautious and talked about the fact that yeah it’s obviously disappointing because of all the time that he missed last year to be out already this early in the year but he wasn’t discouraged by it because he knew it was minor and then he takes part in morning skate before the game against the Vegas Knights but there was an indication that he wasn’t going to play because he wasn’t on that second power play unit as he normally is. However, this morning and I said there were a couple of indications that he’s going to play tonight. He was on that power play unit and Jordan Harris was skating with Morat Husnadinov and Jeffrey Viel who are not in the lineup. So they were the extra skaters and they were taking part uh in that after practice and so that is certainly a good sign that Hampus Lindle will be in the lineup tonight. Guys, Adam, thank you so much for that report. I know we’re going to talk to you a little later on. You’re going to go one-on-one with Casey Middlestat. We’re going to continue the discussion on Hampus over here. Razer, I really like the point that you made at the end of postgame uh when we were discussing some of the Bruins mistakes and you said where Hampus was noticeably missing. Can you go over that again? Certainly the Well, especially the PK. Uh we saw that both in the Tampa game and in the Vegas game without having him in the lineup, it it throws the pairings off. Especially if Charlie Mackoy’s taking the penalty, especially if Nikita Zidorov’s taking the penalty, Andrew Peak’s taking the penalty, then there’s somebody getting thrown in there that’s not quite sure, hasn’t taken a lot of reps, isn’t quite as familiar with with the PK. And then the the the 20 other extra minutes in the game that he plays that that just stabilizes the the defense pairing. So, he’s massively important. We can’t overstate how important he is to this group. if he is back in the lineup, which again if the the big one there is Jordan Harris getting the bag skate after practice. Typically, you’re not getting that if if there’s any chance of you playing. So, so that’s good news. But we’ll see where he is at and and it’s uh it’s a tall test to take on Colorado, your first game back after a week. Uh yeah, I mean, look, he came in first off the bus, right? So, he’s excited. Y the only way he doesn’t play is if maybe his pregame meal doesn’t agree with him, so to speak. You know, he’s he’s playing. Um, again, you you hope at least I think he makes Charlie Makavoy different. While they don’t play an awful lot together, uh, as a pair, I just think having him in the lineup gives Charlie a different feel, a different vibe for the game. Um, and that maybe may it might even be just subconscious, maybe not a conscious thought, but Charlie may be trying to do too much thinking. The first couple of games of the year, I thought Charlie was outstanding. I thought he was flowing, you know, he was doing his grooving out there. Uh, and then that Tampa game, maybe tried to do too much, got caught, and again, the whole team didn’t start well. I’m not pinning it on him at all, but he didn’t look like himself, and he’s okay against Vegas. So, I think having him back settles Charlie down into certain rhythm as well. So, let’s hope he’s back. He looked good walking in. They need him. It’s pretty obvious. All right. Well, throughout the show, obviously, if we hear anything, if we get any official confirmation, we’re going to give it to you guys. I don’t want to compare. We don’t want to compare this year to last year, but it’s still the start of the season, and some of those comparisons are important. So, let’s take a look at the Bruins record when trailing last season. If the opponent scored first, only 10 wins on the season. Trailing after the first period, only two on the season. And trailing after the second period, only six. We saw the Boston Bruins get behind in the last couple games. They didn’t win those games again, but we see a little bit more fight in them this night. Um, well, we do. We we saw more fight. I think they got a little lucky. I’m just going to be honest in that third period, you know, on the goals with especially the the AC goal raiser that, you know, they went through the five hole of of Schmid. And that doesn’t mean you look sometimes better lucky than good, right? So, you know, they’re working their butts off. There’s no doubt about it. Um they didn’t have in my eyes enough of the big guys going really I guess feel great about it. But okay, they they they did make it close in the third, but I don’t know. I felt like the last couple minutes of the game when Vegas finally said, “Oh jeez, we need to we need to play the right way. We need to shut this one down.” I kind of felt that that Vegas did. Yeah, Vegas is a really good hockey team. Um I think if you’re if we’re comparing, we’re comparing the the 8-1 shellacking in Dallas. We’re comparing the the 7-1 shellacking in Winnipeg where the Bruins were kind of in it and then they gave up five goals in the third period. They gave up six goals in the second period in Dallas. So if that if we’re still doing the comparison to last season, certainly there’s more fight. There’s just but more than the fight is the structure and the coaches being on them and and having uh being prepared for 60 minutes of hockey where at times I don’t think they were at the start of last year. Would you agree, Razer, that the Bruins last game where they twice had the lead, remember? They scored early, then they gave a goal, within two minutes they gave up two goals like that, that had a last year vibe to it, you know, where, you know, you think, okay, they’re they’re going to be good and then no, they let a goal get right back. But again, I’m we we talked about it here, Brew, etc. Enough of the comparison only because this doesn’t this feel like a totally different team? Totally different attitude than last year. Yes. And I mean in terms of personnel other than the trade deadline, it is a totally different team. It is. Yeah. It’s a totally different team. New coach, new assistant coach, a lot of new players. But sometimes those comparisons are important. We’re going to get away from that a little later on in the
