10/17: COLORADO vs UTAH M2
After last year, the youths really had a great season, but with Colorado being undefeated, it’s going to be tough to for the youths to get out here and get a win on the home ice, especially where they’ve kind of especially they started out struggling against Wever State. They didn’t really meet up to expectations what we hoped they would last year. I mean, coming in from last year. So, hopefully they can uh get a big win here and get the I guess get things swinging in the right direction. Well, it gives you a a big C cinderella slipper to fit into when you place higher than you ever have in your club record for your franchise history, which is exactly what the Utes did last year in qualifying for nationals. And they, we were talking about this pregame ahead before the broadcast had started. But um for the Utes, they lost the uh the bragging rights game last year in the Wasatch Cup against the Weber Weaver State Wildcats. But they kept their heads right where they needed to be. They kept the fire. They they stayed hungry and they actually ended up winning their playoff matchup against Weieber State and it allowed them to move on to the next round and Utah fed off that energy early in that first game of the year against Weieber State or second game of the year against Weieber State but they ended up coming up just short and it’s that’s been the difference is that the tiny little self-inflicted mistakes have led to them being 4-4 and not 6-2 or 8 and0 like some of the other teams in the MWCHL. So for the youths tonight, I think that that’s a big key towards their success is limiting their time in the penalty box, not shooting themselves in the foot and allowing the opposition to make mistakes and taking advantage of those mistakes. Yeah, 100%. And like we were talking about as the youths get back onto the ice is we were talking about last year the youths went on a big stretch where they were pretty much unstoppable. They were no one could get could beat them. believe it was 11 wins in 13 games. Exactly. And if they can get a big win here against Colorado, maybe they can get the pendulum swinging in that direction, start getting some momentum going, get a win here tonight, get a win tomorrow, finish out the weekend, 3-0, and then you’re sitting in a much different seat than you would if uh you lose these next two games. So, it’s a big win tonight if they can get it, especially after the game last night. So, we’ll see what these what these guys can do on the ice. Well, we talk about Uncle Mo often. The biggest silent factor in sports, momentum. That’s exactly what the youths are looking to harness tonight. And we’re going to send it down ringside for our starting lineups. from West California City, Utah. from Washington from Las Vegas 12 Washington. standing Washington. Ladies and gentlemen, your hats for the national Welcome back from the national anthem. Just moments away from our opening tip off here in Salt Lake City. The youths looking to make it two straight. My name’s Ellis Beum. I’ll be your host in tonight’s contest. Alongside me to my right is my wonderful color man and Valentino Pardo. And we are very excited, very blessed to get to take you through tonight’s contest. As I just prefaced the Utes, a big win last night, 3 to2 in overtime. Who else but Connor Beers, the second year, now secondyear Utes getting it done when it mattered most. backs against the wall, sudden death, and he takes care of business 100%. And getting that goal, getting that win for Utah, really setting it up for the weekend, like we talked about, it was a little difficult, a little more difficult than I think many of us expected, but they came up big when it mattered most, and they’re going to need that tonight. Well, at the end of the day, all that matters is getting points and getting wins, and that’s exactly what they did last night. looking to make it two straight uh against one of the best, especially here in in division 2 hockey, the University of Colorado Buffaloos. They have been redot to start the year. 12 points in their four contests and they’re looking for more here tonight. Looking to stay undefeated in fact underway in Salt Lake City. Puck is near side along the boards. Cole Turner fights for it and along center ice all the way through. A little miscommunication that time between passer and sender or sender and receiver. And now on the near side, little scrum for the puck. Keegan Tori’s got it. He passes it to the far side for Cole Turner. Turner driving towards the net. A nice centering pass and immediately Connor Beers picking up right where he left off last night. It is a one to nothing skating lead. What 31 seconds in here in the first? Barely even that. And you couldn’t ask for a better start. It was Connor Beers and he just slots that one right in. I don’t think the youths could have hoped for a better start against the Buffaloos today. I think everyone in this arena is just on their feet and they’re excited because these youths, they got off to a hot start. 31 seconds in, man. Just like they drew it up in practice. And what a pass from Cole Turner as well. a pass that wasn’t initially intended for him. He makes the most of what didn’t look like much of an opportunity and all of a sudden it’s a one to nothing Utes lead. Now 41 seconds into this first period. That’s that’s a tone setter. That’s how you get Uncle Mo on your side. Exactly. And I I was looking down at my papers. I look up and the puck’s in the back of the net. I didn’t even have a chance to to get set up that much. Well, just a great job by by Turner recognizing the situation and recognizing that their leading point scorer had an open lane driving towards the net. He just tossed it to him and Connor Beers did the rest. And the Utes flying high early here in the first period. It’s a one to nothing game. Maxwell Hovie in the faceoff circle for the Utes. And on the other end it is I can’t quite tell from up here in the rafters on the near side with possession. That is Johnson along the blue line passing up ahead. It is intercepted by Donovan O’Shea. You’ll probably get used to hearing that tonight. Been playing great defense. A two-way defenseman. This is a good opportunity for Colorado driving towards the net. Great pass and another opportunity sent towards the net and they keep it in play. It looked like looked like the net was Yeah, the net came off there. Net was off the moorings for the last three or four passes in that sequence, but no signal from any of the officials. So, it looks like that one might stand. It is a one toone game and Colorado doing their best Utah impression. They immediately have a quick strike goal and we are all knotted up. Back to the drawing board. Well, just like, you know, just like the youths did, Colorado responded within within a minute. And we got a one toone game here early. This could be a high-scoring game. Well, that’s exactly what you want to see if you are a Colorado Buffalo. Yeah. How you get yourself back in the game, you score a goal to tie it up. Kind of like we were talking about at the beginning of this game, that looked like a little bit of a self-inflicted wound in the neutral zone. bad pass let a good like twoon twoon-one opportunity there for Colorado good teams take advantage of good scoring chances and that time that’s exactly what Colorado did all knotted up in a onetoone contest a good shot on net that time or off net slightly looks like it might have caught a stick in front now along the side looking for an outlet that is Andre Lacroy sending it ahead of the whole field and getting some fresh gates on the ice for the Utes. It’s going to be interesting to see how the Utes respond here. They got that early goal. Felt like momentum was going to swing their way. Then Colorado get the goal. They tie it up. So, let’s see how this group responds. Might as well have goose eggs on the board. Dead even here in the first. But we don’t. We have two goals in the first two minutes. Exactly. Now Benjamin Weiner driving on the opposite side. Gets the puck poked from him and all the way back down for Wink who tosses it to his left side. Ryan Wkelman making another start for the skating youths tonight. Stood on his head a couple times this year already. He has been very comfortable between the pipes so far this year. Good shot on nets. Hits a body before it can find its mark. And now the youths are driving the other way. Tossing towards center ice and it’s off of skates. That was Daniel Carroll was the intended recipient. Nice shot by Kai Tweeten. No problem that time. Oh, for the net miner. Big hit on that far side corner. Two guys a little bit slower to get up. Now Tweeton’s got it. And he’s just going to dump it down and take some time off the clock. Get some skates on the ice and give his squad a chance to rekindle in the neutral zone. Just see if uh Utah can gain possession of this puck and get it into the offensive zone. Get some pressure on Colorado. Back behind the net, Ryan Wkelman. He’s got it. Tosses it alongside for Cole Turner. That was Donovan O’Shea first. Now up ahead of the whole field looking for Alex Uers that time. Could not find the mark. Back behind the nets. Battle for possession. And the Utes keep it keep it on Colorado side of the ice. Playing pesky right now. Just looking for possession. A big turnover right in front of the net. and Connor Beers getting his face dirty already. He took a little hit to get to that puck. And we’ve got a our third stoppage of the game. Our first stoppage that’s not a goal. And it looks like it’s going to be a penalty on Colorado tripping to see who that’s on. But this is going to be a good chance for Utah to get on the power play and maybe try and uh convert here. Get get an lead again here in the first period. Colorado striking first in their trip to the sin bin. And I didn’t quite see what the hand signal was, but there is definitely a man in the box. It is Elijah Sue checking in. The first man to be rung up so far tonight. It’ll be two minutes in the penalty box. Utah’s first man advantage. That one little funky hop. Makes it way over the or over the wall and off the ice. That one made it past the net. That one landed in the stands. Got to tighten up the nets here. Pass the board. Yeah. What are we doing? Another quick stoppage. Five on four hockey for the next minute and 53 seconds. 1606 left to play here in the first. Quite an announcement from both sides thus far. The youths with a goal. 31 seconds into the game. And what a response from Colorado scoring less than a minute later to tie us up at once. Well, good teams know how to respond. And Colorado, they’re just that. They’re undefeated this year. So they got to prove it here on the road and well they responded 1. But now they got to test see how these Utes can do on the power play. Isaac Neps was in pursuit of that puck that time but Utah doing a good job of playing keep away. That is Ben Leuk behind the nets tossing along for Max Fenny. Fenny looking for somewhere to go back towards Leuk and it is intercepted on its way. Okay, a nice play by Cory Deono to get the clear and kill some much needed time off that power play for the Utes. Now with some speed and possession, Maxwell Hovie enters the offensive zone. They’ve got the extra man. Now they’ve got to find the spots that they can make it a two to one game. Hovy back to Turner cross for Tweeton. Tweeton with a screen shot and it is blocked on its way. Johnson fighting for the puck. A nice job by Fenny and company to play pesky and try and retain possession on that side of the ice. Utah can get one or two more rushes out of this and just try and get something on net. They haven’t really been able to get too much in this power play as much as they would want. Colorado’s been everywhere blocking shots. Couple moves that time by Cole Turner, but no avail. Still battling for possession behind the Colorado Nets. Now driving towards the net. Quick pass behind. Nice job cycling. About 20 seconds left on the power play. Tweeton to the right side of the ice and back across by the Utah logo. Connor Beers. The final 10 seconds of the youth’s first P power play tonight. Beers to Tweeten. Back to Beers behind the Nets. Firing along the boards and all the way around for Carral. Carell with a nice move driving towards the nets. retains possession somehow. Passing across the way and Beers could not connect. What a great setup that time by Maxwell Hovie. Just couldn’t get the battery clipped all the way ahead of the crowd. Corral touches and they’ll get a quick change. Utah might have wanted to see more there on that power play, but Colorado they their kill unit, they they showed up big. Credit where credit is due. That’s a huge penalty kill that keeps us nodded at one a piece here in this first first period, which is exactly what Colorado wants to see. The last thing you want to do is again, as as I mentioned, as you mentioned, the self-inflicted wounds, any form of penalty is that Colorado hurts themselves by taking that penalty, but they help themselves out by not giving up that power play goal. Exactly. We’ll see how Utah responds. maybe hope that no momentum goes in Colorado’s way for getting that kill cuz that can sometimes swing the pendulum just in the wrong direction for you if you don’t convert on a penalty. So, we’ll see how Colorado as they got that icing call. So, we’ll see. It’s going to be on their side of the ice now. Well, and they’re going to be looking for the same exact opportunity. Bait Utah into taking a penalty themselves or you know it happens. Penalties, it’s a part of the game for a reason. You can’t do that. You can do this. Exactly. Nice cover up by Wkelman. We’ll have another faceoff on that far side circle. 1330 left to play here in this first period of action. A one to one game. Four shots for the youths and six shots for the visiting Colorado Buffaloos. The skating buffs. Can Can a Buffalo get on skates? That’s a good question. one that we’ll have to research and get back at another time. I would love to see that. So, another whistle this time. Another save made by Wlman and a quick skate around. We move from the right faceoff circle to the left one. We’ll do it again. Our third faceoff in as many seconds. Yeah, a lot of stoppages here early and a lot of good chances now for Colorado. Opening draw and scrum for possession in that near side corner. That’s McCoy with the puck up ahead trying to find his linemates. Battle of the sticks over there. Everybody looking for possession yet no one able to find it. Malachi Lynch is the one in pursuit. And now Connor Fenchmaster or Mocker, excuse me. He is putting up a nice centering pass that’s intercepted by the Buffaloos. A nice job playing keep away right now for both sides really. Utah holding the puck, but they’re not really able to get anything going in terms of offensive opportunities. Colorado, I’m sorry. And well, for Utah, the issue has really been who where who are the points going to come from? We know Connor Beers is going to show up. We know that he’s going to get his goal like he did today. Okay, he’s going to get the points, but who else is going to help out? We need some other guys to get involved. We need some of our second or third lines to show up and get maybe get some points on the board. Nice drive towards the net bending off a couple guys. That’s David Levkiss. I believe he is the leading scorer for the Buffalo so far this year. And yes, he is. And even 10 points in four contest this year. Leviss, a name to watch throughout tonight’s contest. 11:55 left on the clock here in the first. That’s Donovan O’Shea, the two-way defenseman, tossing it down ahead of the crowd. Aiden Yuma in pursuit. A nice hit along the far side boards. And now a centering pass. That is a nice save in net to keep us keep us nodded. And Dylan Lawrence, it’s exactly the the brand of hockey he’s trying to play between the pipes for the Buffaloos. Hand up. Looks like it’s going to be an icing. Back down on Colorado’s end we go. Not much has changed. A one toone contest. It looked like this could be one of those 87 huge scoring contest with the way that we started. One to one right off rip. But since then, emotions have calmed and so has the play on the ice. Both sides looking to get a long drawn out possession in which they can score, but those have been few and far between the last few minutes. Yeah, early on, especially with those two quick goals, it looked like maybe, like you said, a lot of goals coming in this game. There haven’t been as many chances since then. No big opportunities. And it’s really going to be, I think, whoever can get capitalize on the others mistakes. Nice move by Keegan Tory to get in front of that puck. Centering pass. And a couple times Lawrence bats that one to the side. And that is Alex Uers with possession behind the nets. Conor Beers right next to him. There’s Cole Turner with a nice move to retain possession. Now it’s Keegan Tory. Tory, he takes a shot that is deflected in front and Colorado with a nice boost that time to try and tally the puck out of their zone. They just can’t seem to do so right now. Users has got the puck. He’s got a nice pass to Connor Beers, but he’s double teamed. Nowhere to go. These are important minutes for Utah. The more that they can keep the puck in the offensive zone and put pressure on Colorado, the more chances they create and then maybe they can get a breakthrough. Nice job stonewalling them along that far side board, keeping the puck in play. More importantly, keeping the puck in the Buffalo side of the ice. We have another stoppage. This one flicks up and out of play. And looks like our scoreboard operator forgot to click or forgot to click play on that last sequence. I estimate there’s about 9 minutes 30 seconds or so. I’m trying to check here. Looks like everyone’s a little slow on what game time it is right now. Friday night hockey night in Salt Lake City. It is hard to beat this though. A great Opportunity for the Utes tonight in front of their home crowd to make it two straight and get that record back above 500. More importantly, get some points. Nice move by Carral. Quick shot and a nice stick in front of it. Keeps it from hitting its mark. Obie with a quick pass. Carral with a quick shot and second effort from Lawrence. Bats it out. Another save. How about it, Dylan Lawrence. A moving wall back there. And now all of a sudden a break on Utah’s defense. One on two pass in the middle of a lane of people and that one couldn’t find find the hits all the way down around Utah going to get some fresh gates on the ice. But there was one of those mistakes. Colorado nearly capitalized on a great chance that time. But Maxwell Hoveve, he came up big on m getting his stick in there, just breaking up a pass because if not, then that was going to be a wide open wide open net and Colorado could have taken the lead there. Well, Saul, he had a wide open lane towards the net and he opted for the pass that time and it just went ary. Now it’s Donovan O’Shea with the puck. He sends it in along the boards back behind the net. Lawrence is looking to find a mark on it. And that pass misses the stick of his intended man. All the way around the horn we go. And now Colorado’s got possession. Some nice defense to keep him off the puck by Owen Melson. Melson’s taken down on the ice, but no intention that time. Play on they say. Ben Leuke’s got it. Nice centering pass. Nelson gets pushed off and back down into that far side corner. The Buffalo looking to get a drive going the other way. See, and Utah will say, doing a great job of battering in the neutral zone and maintaining possession. If if Colorado has a drive going that way, the Utes are doing a good job of making sure it doesn’t go very far. Keegan Tory right there, a prime example. Good back check and it keeps the drive rolling for the Utes. There’s Aiden Yuma. A good pass to Ben Weiner and it just misses in connection. I would just be careful if I’m Utah. As much as I think they’re doing a great job on cutting down Colorado’s opportunities, any of those fast break when the puck gets out of the zone, like right here, if Colorado’s pressing on that, Utah has to make sure they got men back there just to make sure that there are no opportunities. Leuke with a man in front of him. A nice poke, but an even better shot. And that one nearly broke our tie. Elijah Sue getting his name called for the second time tonight. And last time was for his trip to the penalty box. Just one penalty thus far between these two sides. Eight and a half left to play. That penalty just like the goals was early on. We haven’t really had too much action on the stoppage wise since it’s been a good two three minutes of just play back and forth now. Well, Evan Stino with a great breakout pass that time. Now they’re doing a good job cycling towards the points. Looking for a quick shot. Couldn’t find its way through. A barrage of bodies. Keeps it out. Now Cole Turner’s got a chance and an open net and he scores and immediately gives Utah back that lead. It is a two to one contest. Who else but Connor Beers and now Cole Turner getting in on the action and getting it done for the youths. That’s his second goal of the season. and more importantly his ninth point. Man, that line has been getting it done in recent days. And funny enough, we were just I was just talking about Colorado on the breakaway. There was Utah and right there. Now look at them. Now they got the 2-1 lead. So that’s a great great and important point and goal for the Utes. All it takes is a chance like that. They took full well advantage of it. One mistake on the Colorado back check and the Utes back in front two to one and they’ve been trading off here. We’re first first goal within the first 30 seconds, another one within the 30 seconds after that. And it took a while about 13 minutes since, but Utah gets their second and more importantly Cole Turner gets his second to get Utah right where they want to be. Now we got to wait about a minute and maybe we’ll see another goal. Oh, hopefully from the Was a good opportunity that time for the Buffs. They do get to the puck first and the icing is waved off behind the net. Good back check from the youths, more specifically Connor Beers that time. Cole Turner now up along the boards trying to pass it in front of everyone for Yers. Beers back behind Utah’s logo and across center ice where it hits a stick and the Utes have an opportunity to get some fresh skates on the ice. Five on five hockey with 708 left to play here in this first. That’s a big turnover and a two-on-one pass to Fenny. What a save by Dylan Lawrence. That was a golden opportunity for the youths. And unlike that first goal, now it seems like Utah now they’ve gained possession now. Now they’ve gained momentum. They got they got some good movements going on in front of goal. They they’re getting the puck in important positions. And just like that, we’re seeing we’re seeing the youths getting in front of Colorado. Well, the more goals they score, the better for their cause when they’re up by one. There’s always the chance that that lead evaporates within a heartbeat. Oh, here’s that opportunity you were talking about. Oneon- none. Quick shot. Amazing save by Wkelman. And the net is off the moorings again. And this time he gets the whistle he’s looking for. So, possession stops right there. But Colorado had a golden opportunity themselves to try and tie that ball game or this ball game up. And it’s just like we were saying on those fast breaks, even though the Utes, they they got their fast break opportunity and scored. That was almost Colorado’s. So, the Utes got to keep their heads up. Can’t turn over the puck in dangerous areas and allow that to happen. It sure was. And we we’ve seen the quick strike ability of both sides tonight. But what Utah doesn’t want to test is to allow Colorado to get it back to the drawing board again. Basically a 000 game if they get this second goal and tie it up two to2. Utah wants to, as you said, keep momentum on their side, keep it rolling, and keep scoring goals, extend that lead by more than one. Ooh, a nasty deflection off the sidewall. And there it is. Unbelievable. What is going on in Salt Lake City tonight? We’re all kned at twos with 644 left to play. A wonky deflection off the wall. It looked like Donovan O’Shea was ready for the puck and it took a weird trickle in front of him. Bounced right on the tape of a Colorado Buffalo and we are all knotted up at twos. And I hope you uh hope you came ready to play tonight cuz these guys definitely did. Well, yeah. And we we were just talking about a couple minutes ago how we thought that this game could be a six sevengoal game and well now we’re level up at two and I think that we’re definitely on track for that. So you’re telling me there’s a chance? I’m telling you, there’s a chance. The Buffalo’s win the draw and look to gain possession at center ice. Valo with a quick pass off the tape of his linemates and back to him. Chase Mesner and Valo looking to get the drive started. cross through center ice and Elijah Sue tosses that one down into the Utah Utah side. Back down the other way it goes. Dylan Lawrence will cover and opt for a faceoff on their side of the ice. 613 left to play. And for the second time tonight, we see a Utah goal that is immediately tallied up with a Colorado Buffalo’s goal. as you see it right there. Took deflection off that sidewall and everybody kind of just left shrugging. What just happened? Well, the Colorado Buffalo offense happens and we’re all nodded at twos. Well, you kind of you kind of wonder if it’s a mentality thing for the youths, too. You get up, do you gain too much confidence? Do you get a little too loose? And against this Colorado team, they’re proven they’re undefeated. The Utes, they’ve had some mental mistakes in the past couple games. And well, it’s showing here a little bit. Polichic that time with a ripper on that end. Little bit of pushing and shoving in front of the crease. Wkelman with a nice save that time. Opts for the cover up. And with an even six minutes on the clock, we’ll have another face off on the youth side of the ice this time. Chippy Chippy. Yeah, starting to get a little bit of a rumble in the Rockies going on here. So, another face off coming up with six minutes on the clock. All even up in a two to2 game. Utah’s had two leads tonight that have immediately been vanquished by the Colorado offense. Nice intercept that time. Tossing it down. Ahead of everybody is Evan Stallino. Keegan Tori in pursuit. Bats a man off the puck on his way. And now that one takes a nasty deflection. Back on Colorado’s side of the ice we go. Leuke had a chance there. If he would have he would have turned around and saw that the puck was there was no Colorado defenders there. He would have had a one-on-one opportunity. Just didn’t quite see the opportunity that time. And now Colorado looking to make an opportunity of their own. And it looks like we might have our first penalty or sinbin trip of the game for the youths. Keegan Tory going to box for what I would either figure is tripping or interference. Let’s see what they say at center ice. It is tripping. And Keegan Tori with 519 on the clock here in the first. We’ll check into the P or into the penalty box for the first time tonight. And the Utes, their penalty kill unit gets a chance to try and show off. Well, they’re going to need it here, especially against this Colorado team who they’ve racked up points all season. So, if they want to get this kill, it could swing momentum in their favor. That’s been the big story today. So, we’ll see. Colorado can convert on this or if Utah can get the kill. Oh, a nice play by Cole Turner that time. Able to break up the pass from Lev Kiss. And now the two leading scorers on the Utes have a chance on Colorado’s side of the ice looking to eat as much time as possible. And those two lead scores being Connor Beers and Cole Turner. across the blue line. Colorado looking to cycle the puck around and that’s exactly what they start doing. Over by the youths bench and back behind the net looking for somewhere to go. Lev kiss has got it. He’s got a quick shot and a great save from Ryan Wkelman on a puck I didn’t even see. He just swatted that one out of the air that might not have even been on frame, but he just wanted to get his glove on that one and give his boys a chance to breathe and switch out some skaters, get some new skates on. might have to check both the puck and his glove for positive and negative magnets. That was a great save that time getting in front of that one. A ripper of a shot from Leviss. Now a nice job by Colorado maintaining that possession on the near side. Smithburger to Leus. Levkiss across ice. Quick shot and a great save by Wlman, but the deflection bounces out and a nice play by Hobie that time to force Colorado out of the zone. Levkiss has got it. He’s got a one-on-one and he finds a shin guard before he finds the nets. Stone with a nice pass that time. Oh, all the way across for Smithburgger and he couldn’t handle the hot pass. Quick shot. Save made. And another save made, I should say. Everything landing in his glove right now. And they’re going to need him big with 45 seconds left on this power play to just get this get this kill and help Utah maintain the tie right now. That’s what I think the mentality should be. Only four minutes left to play in this first period. And you’re exactly right. They don’t want to fall behind here. They’ve had the lead twice tonight. They’ve scored two goals in their opening period. But they’re faced with trying to kill this penalty here this time with over 40 seconds left on that penalty timer clock. 350 left to play or 352 left to play here in this first period. Possession for both sides. Been hard to find, but right now Colorado dominating the puck down on that far side corner. Up to the points. Couple youths change men. Ben Weiner in pursuit of that puck. Now Donovan O’Shea, the man at play. A nice move by Ben Weiner. And he gets a huge clear. Final eight seconds of this power play are ticking. And the Utes, they do show off that glory. Their penalty kill unit looking up to the task so far tonight. One for one. And that’s a huge kill for the Utes to stay it even and just get I’m not going to say they want to get out of this period even. They want to take the lead, but it is big. They’ve had the lead twice. They gave it up twice. Maybe get into the locker room, get a talk going, and come out in that second period with a little bit more fire and flame. Get everybody on the same page. Not to say they haven’t been. They scored two goals in the opening period. That’s a good start. Like you said, they’re on pace for a high-scoring game around six or seven. So, we’ll have to just wait and see. 240 left to play here in this first period. That was a big centering pass that was blocked by a couple h youth sticks on the way. Melson’s got it. He goes along the boards and he finds his outlet man and Riley Mutas. Mabas passes it all the way down ahead of the crowd. That was actually Daniel Carroll that time and now the Utes the first ones on scene. That one will take him out of the offensive zone. Keegan Tory with a nice no look pass. Kai Tweeten looking to center it for Max Hovy and it’s off his stick into the offensive zone. Corral is trying to find that puck. Now both sides battling at center ice. One thing on their mind and that is scoring another goal. Getting possession to do so. Especially with under two minutes left. The Utes a little bit lost momentum when that power play happened and now they’re trying to gain it back. But Colorado, they’re they’re everywhere right now. They’re not going to let the youths get into the zone easy. 4-0 for a reason, right? It’s because a contest like this, playing scrappy, not letting their opponent run away with it. And it certainly looked like 30 seconds in with a Utah goal, like the Utes were poised for a multi-goal, a big first period, but Colorado stopped that that chance dead in it tracks. And exactly, they showed why they’re 4-0. Like like you said, they’re two goals response and they’re pressing for a third. They’re pressing to take the lead here. I doubt that they’re very happy with going down twice. So, we’re going to see how this responds. Now Beers has got it. A twoon one towards the net. Tries to center it. Cover up by Dylan Lawrence. A minute two left to play here in the first period. And a lot of a lot of desirable stuff from both sides and a lot of undesirable stuff from both sides. couple or at least one trip for both sides to the penalty box. A couple goals to speak of for both sides, but the possession has been hard to find. Having these long drawn out sequences where the youths have had them, they’ve had trouble scoring and where well really Buffalo or excuse me, Colorado has struggled to have those opportunities, but where they have been good is like you said on those breakaway chances and that’s part of the reason we find ourselves in a two to2 game. Now behind the nets, nice move on the puck to keep possession in Colorado’s hands. David Lekiss keeps that one rolling. Now Deono has the puck taken and Cole Turner’s got it. Turner ahead of everybody for Uers. Uers can’t corral it. Back to center ice where Donovan O’Shea waits. Final 30 of our first period. Another turnover on that near side. Evan Stelino’s got it. Aiden Yuma standing on his head that time to keep possession and he nearly had a goal. Top left corner. Dylan Lawrence with a little rattle against the net. Will knock it off the Morings. And we will get another stop or stoppage down on the near side faceoff circle in Colorado zone. We’ve seen it go on twice on one end and now once on the other where that net’s come off its minds. We have seen that twice tonight now. Three times actually. We had the first goal as well where it had been knocked off for what seemed like at least a couple seconds. Goal goes through right after. Not saying that would have changed anything. Probably would have been a goal anyways, but typical procedure is to get the stoppage when the net is off the MS. Levkiss checks in as the final man on this fiveman line for the Buffaloos. Final 11 seconds of our first period. And boy has it been a treat to watch this one. A two to2 contest. Shot for shot these guys are going. Yeah. And the youths, I mean, although they’ve made their mistakes, they’re standing their own against this Colorado team who’s undefeated. Colorado looking for a breakout. They might have it. A twoon-one entering the offensive zone. What a save by Wlman. Another one trying to stop the period and go to the intermission in a tie game. And that’s exactly what we’ll do. Two to2 contest, but Colorado doing everything in their power to take their first lead of the game. Ryan Wkelman shut that idea down pretty quick. But we are headed to our first break, our first intermission. What a first period of action. It was two to two through one. It was an amazing first period. And just like that, it almost it started with fireworks. It almost ended with fireworks. We almost ended with a goal just like we started with one. So like the outsiders starting just how it ends. And for us, we’ll be back in about 15 minutes for your second period of action. 12 shots for one side, 11 for the other. And two a piece. What a game so far. We’ll see you in a few moments right here on the Utah Hockey Broadcast Network. all squared away for our puck drop here in period number two. If you’re just tuning in, it’s exactly where we last left you. Two to2 contest, 12 shots for the Utes and or excuse me, for the Buffaloos and 11 for the Utes. a very even first period, especially with how you factor the possessions went. The Utes did a great job possessing early in that period in the middle stages of the period. It felt like the Buffaloos were dominating that period at the very end. So, a nice bounce back and forth. It’s been a snake of who’s been in the driver’s seat and here we are all even a two to2 contest. Period number two ready to take off and both sides looking to take the lead. Well, I’m just wondering how fast when we’re going to see a goal cuz it could be within 30 seconds if it’s anything like that first period. And honestly, I wouldn’t mind it. The the Utes have been playing good. They’re stepping up to the board against a good Colorado team, but those little mental mistakes, those little tiny mistakes on a breakaway or something like that, that’s what’s caused this game to be 2-2. Colorado is a great team. They’re 4-0 for a reason, like we’ve said over and over again. Can the Utes sustain pressure? Can they get the puck in the zone and capitalize? That’s what they need to do. And can they get the lead and hold it? That’s one thing we haven’t seen them do tonight is they’ve been able to take the lead, but they haven’t been able to shut down that Colorado quick strike ability right past that. They they scored their first goal. 30 seconds later, less than 30 seconds later, Colorado ties it up. Takes the better part of a period to score their next goal. And immediately it’s answered with another Colorado goal. It’s just been back and forth shot forshot hockey. And we’re here for every second of it. And we are squared away for puck drop from the second period. Connor Beers checking in for the youths on the other end. It’s David Levkiss and the Utes take the draw. Kai Tweeten with a pass ahead looking for viewers that time. Couldn’t find his tape down in that near side corner. Nice job cycling the puck along the boards and maintaining possession. Buffalo’s playing keep away early trying to avoid another quick goal from Utah just well this is a good chance for the youths they now got possession a screen shot from Tweeton and a good one couldn’t find its way through uh armada of legs I guess we’ll call it a bunch of skates a bunch of legs in the way screen pass or screen shot 19/19 left to play approaching our first minute knockdown in this Second period. Lev kiss has got it. Quick pass ahead and an offsides call as Deonio got a little bit excited. Angsty getting into that zone. We’ve got our first stoppage of this second period. 1907 on the clock. A two to2 game. And well too early to say, but both sides looking for that catalyzing goal. Both sides looking to take the lead. For one side for the Buffaloos. A lead here would be their first of the game. And for the other side, the Utes, it’ be their third of the game. And I guarantee you the Utes don’t want to toy around with having to take the lead more than three times. Well, I’m wondering what was said in the locker room about giving up those two goals and giving up the lead twice for the youths. It needs to be some discipline after you score. I think that it shows a little bit of lack of that for the youths. And the one area both sides have actually been pretty good tonight is staying out of the box. Just one penalty per side. So in in that regard, they’ve been good about both sides have been good about not doing themselves any missteps, not shooting themselves in the foot. But in other regards like breakaway back check and sustained offensive drives, we’ve seen both sides struggle from time to time tonight. Oo, a great chance for the youths right in front. Donovan O’Shea. A one-on-one and a great save by Dylan Lawrence keeps this game knotted at a two to2 tune right past an official. Max Fenny tiptoeing around that puck trying to find possession and now Carral’s got it. A quick pass for Melson. Intercepted by a Buffalo. And oh, another quick interception. Fenny with a quick shot as well. That time it’s stonewalled. But it’s chances like that that both sides have taken advantage of and it’s what they’re looking to do again. 100%. And the youths, it’s getting more of those opportunities, capitalizing off of a soft turnover from the Buffaloos and just trying to get in and at least getting a shot on goal like they did there. 1802 left to play here in our second period of action. 15 shots now for Colorado and 11 for the Utes. Possession through center ice all the way across the neutral zone and into that far side corner. Couple guys looking for possession. Battle for the puck and comes up by way of the Ute. Chase Metner gave it or Messner gave it up that time and Ben Leuk going to get a quick check in. And now the Utes looking to maintain possession. One of those sustained drives. They’ll have to keep looking. 1732 left to play here in period number two. All the way across the ice for Malachi Lynch who takes a screen shot covered up by Dylan Lawrence. An easy save that time. And with 1726, we will have another faceoff in Colorado’s side of the ice. And look no further than Connor Beers and Cole Turner tonight. Beers came in tonight with 10 points in eight games. And Turner came in with an even eight points in eight games. Both of them have points tonight. Some quick math would have you know that they extend that team lead in that category. Maxwell Hobie right behind him with an even seven. Good chance here in this second period to tally some more of those points as they look for a lead. Daniel Carroll in pursuit of that puck. Passing across everybody and icing is waved. Back down to the other end we go. And that’s big for the youths. They can try and get some pressure on the Buffaloos, try and get some some sustained pressure on Colorado. And it’s going to really test to see how Colorado will respond because I’m sure they’re not happy about giving up two goals in that first period. Well, I think that that is a fair assumption. They are not happy about that. And I think the Utes aren’t happy about giving up two in that first period either. A nice opportunity that time is put to rest by the Colorado back check. Nice job. Still fighting for the puck on the near near side just across the blue line. A big hit laid down. And the two of them a little slower to get up. That time it was Riley Mutas getting taken down on the ice. Still fighting for possession. Great job playing pesky and now a drive towards the nets. Quick chance is put to bed by the back check once more. One-time shot and that was close. A great save. Great reflexes from Dylan Lawrence to keep us tied. Absolutely no one near him. Center of the ice right there. Cole Turner just at a different speed right now dipping and dodging around three different guys. somehow still has the puck on his tape and a quick shot finds its way to the back stop up against the boards and Utah’s going to have to reset as that puck trickles out of the zone. They’ll opt for a change of skates headed by Donovan O’Shea watching the cherry picking not wanting anyone to get behind him. The last line of defense for the youths. That puck still on that near side corner. Connor Beers taken to the ground quickly. Quick pass for O’Shea. OA one-on-one and he scores with some topshelf she’s. It’s a three to2 game and for the third time tonight, the Utes take a one-goal lead. It is the two-way defenseman Donovan O’Shea getting his name in the charts and Utes back on top. And actually for the beginning of this second period, it has mainly been Utah on the puck in the Colorado zone. They’ve been putting the pressure on and it finally pays off. O’Shea just got a beautiful slap shot in the top of that corner. Well, you keep adding pressure and you keep adding pressure and you keep adding pressure. Eventually, something’s going to give. And that time Dylan Lawrence, despite how well he’s played tonight, couldn’t catch up to that heater off the stick of Donovan O’Shea. His second goal of the year and his sixth point. Just what you want to see from Donno in his third year as a youth. Now the test for the Utes. Can they sustain this lead? They haven’t been able to the last two times they got the lead, but this is their third chance. And maybe third time’s the charm. Now Cole Turner showing off the speed that time. A quick pass up ahead of everybody. And a nice job stealing that puck from right under Utah’s nose. This one’s behind O’Shea. He’s pushed off the puck. A good pass. Finding some space. Even better opportunity. And I don’t know how, but Ryan Wkelman stopped that puck at point blank range. And the youths still have a lead to talk about with 1459 left in this second period. 3-2 score what likely should be a 3 to3 game after that one. And just like that, Colorado is coming right back at the Utes just like they have after those last two leads for them. So it’s going to be a little bit of pressure on them to hold on to the lead. If you’re the youth, we got to see that. Donovan O’Shea Howitzer in the top left corner just beat him glove side and can’t draw it up any better than that. A nice job by the Colorado offense to keep this one in the forchack. But now the youths driving the other way. Touched at center ice and all the way down it goes. Hobie tries to body block it off and cannot. Fenny touches. Everyone else lays off some heads up hockey that time. from the youths all the way down it goes another icing and that’s just about the only stoppage we’ve seen tonight besides the two penalties. Yeah. And we’re going to see how the youths can do on trying to get the pressure again going on the Buffaloos and see if they can get another goal to extend the lead which they haven’t been able to do today. A multi-goal lead is certainly harder to come back from than a one-goal game. Driving in and driving the other way now, looking for some space and speed. Adam Corral with a quick shot saved by Dylan Lawrence. And with 1443 left on the clock here in the second, we’ve got another stoppage, a cover up from Dylan Lawrence on a oneon-one that time. Another good chance for the youth. And that was a great chance for Carl there. He really just tried to get that one past the tender. And you know, those are the chances that the youths like that’s how they scored their second goal of the night on one of those fast break opportunities. They almost get a fourth one there. Donovan O’Shea’s got his second goal of the year. Connor Beers with his eighth of the year. And Cole Turner with his second of the season unassisted on that breakaway back in the first. Another stoppage just outside the Colorado zone. 1433 left on the clock and the Utes looking to win another draw here. But what a way to set the tone and get momentum back on your side. Donno scores his second goal of the season. Assisted by, you guessed it, secondyear star Connor Beers. His fourth assist of the year. He’s now up to 12 points on the season. Talk about consistency so far at the beginning of this year for Beers. He has been the the light of this team really for the Utes. And with the departure of some of their veteran players from last year like Ezekiel Lindy and Jack Yuma, just guys who have been the core for this group, it’s time for guys like Donovan O’Shea and Connor Beers and Coloulter, all them to step up. And that’s exactly what they’ve done here tonight. Filling in that void that those those captains, those veterans leave behind. Yeah. And they’re trying to continue on what they did last year and make some of those vets proud. Show them that they can continue on the great season that they had last year and carry on the tradition. Exactly. and not make it such a Cinderella story and make the Utes a contender up there every single season. Set the standard. That’s exactly what they’re looking to do. This pass makes his way through a barrage of bodies. Another quick turnover. Now Ben Weiner’s got an uncontested lane. Quick shot and he beats Dylan Lawrence. Just can’t put it on net and the Utes somehow didn’t score that time by the hair on their chinny chin chin. That was a close opportunity. Another close one here. Save made on the initial effort. Keegan Tory with a little put back pass and it can’t find its mark. So, a couple golden chances for the Utes. They come up empty, but they still lead. And they’ve been in the driver’s seat in this period as you mentioned. Now, couple bodies go down, but still maintaining possession down there. That first period, it was very evenly matched. This period, it’s looking a lot more like the Utes have gained control. They’re controlling the momentum. They’re controlling the flow of this game. And Colorado, they’re really just trying to not concede that fourth goal. Well, this puck just misses the mark. And now Elijah Sue driving towards the net. He’s beating off the point of attack. And a nice job by the Utah back check. A little scary there for a second. Initial poke was a good job by Donovan O’Shea, but the second effort and Sue had a pretty good lean towards the net. Wink was up to the task. And another stoppage. Kind of have been off sides that time. 1238 remaining on the clock. A 3 to2 youths lead. They’ve got 15 shots to the Colorado Buffalo’s 16. About as even as you could get it. But I agree this first period it seems like Utah has been outpacing Colorado a little bit. Although I will say still just a onegoal game and Colorado twice tonight has shown off their ability to strike quickly. That’s exactly what they’re looking to do again. Donovan O’Shea rips one along the boards all the way around the horn on the other end. Jackson Ronic fields and loses possession. Oh, a nice poke check that time to take it right back for himself. Connor Fest Fence Decker is behind the net wedging his man off the point of attack. And now the Buffalo’s carrying it the other way all the way down where Donovan O’Shea fights for possession. The Buffs have it cycling along the boards. Quick deflection out front and it just goes wide. That was a good chance right there for Colorado to try and tally their third. A couple nice moves from Cole Turner just moving at a different speed tonight than the rest of the field. Feels like Turner’s been everywhere on the ice just like he said. Looks like it’s going to be an offsides call on Smithburger entering the zone. And with 1144, we’re going to have a face off right near us over in front of the the visiting penalty box, the near side faceoff circle. Dylan Lawrence, he’s been great tonight, but think you could argue Ryan Wkelman has been just a tick better. And that’s why you see the Utes with that 3 to2 lead. Well, you had right after the Youth scored that third goal and Colorado almost capitalized again and tied it up, but when you have a guy like Wkelman in the goal, he’s not going to let that go. I think he’s probably not happy letting those two go early on in that first period. So, it’s very good to see him probably gain a little more confidence after a couple of those saves. making his money’s worth here in this second period. Looking to shut down the Buffaloos. That was a great chance that was deflected out wide by the backjack. Now, a nice breakout pass trying to find the highest man up. That was Adam Carell. Carell with a nice pass behind the net, finding Fenny in front and escape. Blocks the shot before that became too dangerous. Carral back down the other way. Him and Fenny on the same page. An unbelievable pass in front of the nets. That was actually Hovie behind the nets. Quick pass to Fenny and a late whistle as well. We’ll have to see what they’re saying here. Looks like we have given it a second here. Looks like it’s going to be a hooking call against Colorado. And they’re going to have a man check into the box for the second time tonight. There are third penalty total between these two sides. Pretty good discipline in that regard thus far for both sides, but Isaac Nefs takes the trip to the box and he will tally a twominute power play in advantage for the youths until the nine or the excuse me 8 minute 51 second mark. And this is going to be a chance for the youths. Their second of the night to try and capitalize off a power play. The Buffaloos were able to kill that first one, but now feel like the momentum’s been on Utah’s side throughout this second h second period, sorry. And now we’ll see if they can capitalize on it. Well, you like your chances with number 12 right there behind the net. Connor Beer is looking for space and looking for a man. He’s got him at the point now. Kai Tweetton’s got it. Tweeten back to center ice. Quick shot and they score. What a shot from the logo and it looked like Adam Carral that time getting in on the scoring action just 25 seconds in to the power play. The Utes able to take advantage and for the first time tonight they have a multi-goal lead. It is a 4-2 game and maybe that’s what actually changes things around for the Utes. They haven’t been able to get that twogoal lead. They’ve been struggling, but now on the power play, they’re able to convert early on. And now we’ll see what they can do and maybe continue adding to this lead. You like two goals, but three is always nice. A great job recognizing the opportunity knowing they had all the time in the world to work with on that power play. And they’re able to bury it, send it home, and take a 4 to2 lead. But that’s no reason to get complacent. The Utes, they’re looking to run up as many goals as they possibly can score tonight. Make it two straights. You can start to call it a streak once it’s more than one. So, the youths trending in the right direction. Just got to play good hockey the next 29 minutes, 30 minutes or so. Wrapound chance and a good thought. Just no cigar that time. Elijah Sue or excuse me, that was David Levkiss who went for the wraparound goal. And now the Colorado Buffalo’s attack is going to need a quick strike goal. And this might help. Looks like the officials hand is still in the air and they’re talking with Donovan O’Shea who might be checking into the box for the Utah’s second penalty tonight. And just when we talk about discipline right there, O’Shea not showing too much there. Just a big hit. And now Colorado has a chance on the power play to cut into this lead. So Cole Turner gets his second point of the night on that assist to Adam Carouse. Ty Tweeten gets his fourth assist of the season. That was the ninth assist of the season for Cole Turner. And Carell gets his fourth. So, a great job staying on points, staying hungry. Looks like there’s a Buffalo skater a little bit slow to get up and he’s in good hands. Analise Funk down there. Great trainer. She cares about these guys more than most and will do will not stop at anything to get uh get everybody healthy and on the same page. You just hope he’s okay. That was a really big hit up against the boards and was slow to get up there. Looking at his teammates like he’s up now. It’s a good sign. I believe that is the forward Elijah Sue. A little bit slow to get up, but a very good sign to see him up and skating around. So Sue makes his way off the ice. Hopefully everything okay for the young man. A good sign to see him getting off the ice on his own two feet. Yep. Now back to hockey. We have five on four action for the next two minutes. 9 minutes and 33 seconds left to play in our second period. Colorado looking for their third goal of the game and now they’re missing one of their key pieces on offense. Definitely a big blow losing Elijah Sue. Yeah, four points this year. They’re going to miss that as they try and get a goal here on the power play. Point a game keeps the doctor away, but that time the doctor made her way to him and hopefully we’ll see him back in the third period. Ooh, a great wraparound shot. looked like he might have had a lane for a second. David Levkiss shows off the ripper. Shows off why he’s in that team lead in the points category this year for the Buffaloos. And even 10 points in his four contests. Hard to find that production elsewhere. Two goals, eight assists. He has been the definition of a playmaker. Yeah. And if there’s someone that they want to get on the boards here on this power play, it’s going to be him. But we’ll see how the Utes can defend this as Colorado, they’re trying to swing that pendulum in their favor. And right now are just trying to kill as much time off this power play as possible. A minute and 20 left on that power play. Now Deono’s got it. He’s going to cycle it along the boards trying to find his nearest man up along the boards. There’s a nice quick tap for Leuke. Now Weiner finds his way through. Weer with a man on his tail trying to box him out and maintain possession. He can only hold out for so long. David Levkiss has got it. Levkiss all the way ahead of the crowd for Deonio. Nice hit gets his man off the puck and the back check for the youths. Now the forch check for the youths. A twoon one. Tweeton waiting for it and he had the chance. Just misses high. A great setup from Max Fenny. That battery duo is going to want a doover at that one. Everything looked right except for the placement of the shot. As much as the youths would have want to score there, that took off valuable seconds on this power play for the Buffaloos. Oh, and here’s a golden chance. Tweeton might have a chance at redemption. Uncontested to the net. And a huge save from Dylan Lawrence. 12 seconds left on the man advantage for the Buffaloos and 7 minutes and 40 seconds left in the period. Now entering the zone and tossing it ahead of everybody is Marius Kasuskas. That was a big kill for Utah now that they’re back at even strength. Able to take as take all that time getting a actually some better chances than Colorado on their power play. Two for two in that category. They have killed both penalties successfully. That’s exactly what you want to see, a 4-2 lead. And you nurse that by not giving up any goals and totally redeem yourself on that. All the way down it goes. Officially hitting our 7minute mark here in period number two. 18 shots aside, four goals for one side, two for the other. I actually feel like Dylan Lawrence has been playing very well in nets. It’s just Utah’s pressure in this period has been pretty uncontested even with that man advantage. Now Lacroy’s got it. Lacroy with a quick turnover. And they’re going the other way. Oh, what a pass ahead of the field. Just couldn’t find the tape of the man he was looking for. Brandon Hackit, the two-way defenseman. Nearly had a golden chance to tally the Buffalo’s third goal of the game. 6 and 1/2 minutes or a little bit under 6 and 1/2 minutes left. Cole Turner’s got it. Turner ahead of the field. And it’s intercepted right there by Pich. Pichek with a great job. Keep that puck in play. More importantly, keep pressure on the youth side of the ice. Something we haven’t seen much of in this second period. Albeit 6 minutes left for the Buffaloos to do so. Turner’s got it. Turner to the other side. And with 554, we get a quick stoppage. The Utah M1 team is up here and that’s exactly what you want to see with them on the road. A big contest to go and win tonight. And yeah, that’d be a big win for the M1 team if they can go on the road and get a win. And I believe they’re that road trip that they had. They took on Las Vegas, I believe, or that was that was that was a tough matchup. So, if they can get a win here, that’d be huge. did mark a sweep on the day. If the M2 team is able to win tonight, then an M1 win would obviously mark all three teams winning today, which doesn’t get better than that. And to make it better, the Utah women’s team took a win earlier today against Colorado. What a shot from Corral just showing off the wrist and it caught a lot of Dylan Lawrence’s face mask. And exactly that that is the clean sweep is when all three teams get a win on the same day. And we don’t see it very I mean you’d think only three teams and they’re three good teams. Like you probably see that all the you don’t see it as often as you would think. So a good chance for the Utah Utah hockey program to get some pride points tonight if these teams are able to close out. Well, you know, hockey isn’t an easy sport to play. And when you have three teams and they’re all they’re all fighting for their lives in these and they’re pretty pretty good teams out there. If you can get a sweep for the day, that’s always a like you said, pride points for the program. Quick decision to cover up by Wlman and we’ll have a stoppage and a faceoff on the youth side of the ice with about 443 left to play here in period number two. It’s been all youths in this second period and it’s part of the reason they came into this period tied up at twos. They now lead four-2. Oh, nice intercept that time by Ben Weiner. Weer finding his space trying to find a lane. Centering pass broken up before it could get started. A nice play on the back check that time for Colorado. There’s Ben Clark getting his stick in the way of that puck’s puck’s path now with some speed entering the offensive zone. Chase Mesner leading the drive. Kai Tweeten looking to put an end to it. A big hit along the near side boards. Tweeton’s got it. A nice move to gain some space. Looking to keep it rolling that way. And that’s what he gets. Four minutes inside our final four minutes of second period hockey. Right back. And a nice hit at center ice getting Ben Clark right off the puck and giving his team a chance to gain possession. And although through those first um first about 10 to 12 minutes in the second period it was all Utah feels like things have evened out a little bit more. Colorado putting a little bit more pressure on Utah but the youth still controlling the puck here. Nice move that time and they find some open space for Daniel Carroll. Carol driving on the backhand. Quick shot as he drops it off for his linemate in Riley Matas. And that connection there pretty close to making it a five to2 game. A nice save by Dylan Lawrence. And Carol, he was he was moving his way through defenders there dancing around and man that was a great pass. Just couldn’t finish it off there. Well, you can’t connect on all of them, but that’s certainly a chance that the Utes will mark down in the stat sheets. want to capitalize on those twoon- ones in the offensive zone and I’m sure they’ll have more opportunities. Connor Beers in the faceoff circle for the youths and on the other end it’s Isaac Neps back in the game and checking in for the draw. This one goes by way of the Buffalo hands around the horn. That is David Lekiss. Levkiss the bad turnover that time on his own side of the ice, but a nice job to recover. Ooh, big trip as Lacroy goes down to the ice hard. Cole Turner trying to pass that one ahead of the crowd and it comes right back to him. A lot of good poke checks from Turner. He is just skating fast tonight. into that near side brushing his man off. Alex Eer’s looking for somewhere to go. He has the puck taken right from him. Isaac Nefs puts it in front and Deonio, he’s looking for somewhere to go. Utah’s been really good. Oh, that’s a big turnover right in front of the eye or right in front of the net, but nothing to do of it. Just when I was about to give Utah all the compliments on defense, they go and turn over the puck there. But really, they’ve been able to shut down Colorado so far in this second period. Of course, they’ve Colorado’s had their chances, but Utah’s done a really good job on not um limiting those opportunities for Colorado. Well, particularly in this period, too. We saw 15 shots in that first from Colorado and 11 for Utah. They have seven in this period to Colorado’s two. And that’s pretty impressive to have to have started dominating at the point of attack, taking possession and having these long drawn out possessions. That was how we saw their third goal of the game, just sustained pressure. Eventually, a crack will form. And the youth found that crack and exploited it. And then they did it again. And they’re looking to do it once more. Keep that two goal lead right where it is and keep the foot on the gas pedal more importantly. up to the points. Stones got it. He’s tossing along the boards. Samson waited. Samson got a stick on it, but still a battle. Believe that is Salt’s Ranch on the near side. Nice pass for Connor Beers along the boards. Now Utah’s got some space. Malachi Lynch entering the zone with Cole Turner right behind him. Quick change of skates as Lynch buries the puck behind the net. Carral playing pesky that time. A nice job to keep him from getting near that puck. He’s already proven the threat that he is. That is Drunch that time or Drench, excuse me. And all the way back down the other way. Connor with a quick centering pass back to center ice. Branch against Melson. Melson wins that battle. And now Carral’s driving a one-on- two in the offensive zone. A nice move, gaining space behind the nets, looking for somewhere to go. And he wanted to Melson that time, but a nice job on the Colorado back check and almost an even nicer job on the Colorado for check. They’ve still got a man down there, but he can’t touch the puck. Would be an offsides call. Cycling behind the net. The final 50 seconds of our second period of regulation. Ben Leuk, he’ll launch it off the boards into the corner for Dylan Wallace who gets a hand on it but doesn’t cover up. Nice pass in some space. Aiden Yuma a quick shot at the heels. Another opportunity looking for a quick wrap and Leuke is kept out. A great sustained drive that time and with 26 seconds 25.4 seconds on the clock. It’s going to be an icing call. We’re going back down the other way. Man, Utah has really turned it up in this second period. Like they have not allowed Colorado too much room to breathe. And like you said, they have controlled the shot category in this in this second period. They are controlling the puck and just getting it on frame. Well, they’re doing a great job of keeping it on the right side of the ice, keeping it where they want the puck. Beers with a quick shot. No cover up from Wallace or Lawrence, excuse me. Now Smithburger looking to get it ahead of everybody. 15 seconds left in our second period. Connor Beers on that far side with Kai Tweeten right behind him. Cole Turner to his left, Keegan Tory also on the ice and Alex Uers to round it out. All the way across the crease. Our second period has come to a close and boy was it a good one. If you are wearing skatees merch, it’s a 4 to2 game. came into this period in a 2-2 tie and I think Utah just announced pretty loudly that they weren’t looking to finish this game in a tie. They’re not looking for an overtime win or loss either. They want to win here tonight and their two goal lead proves that. Well, just like we saw in that first period, it was a little bit more back and forth, but like we’ve said, Utah took control and they asserted dominance in this second period. The question is, can they sustain it going into the third period? We’ll see. Only time will tell. Seven shots in the period and or excuse me, 14 shots in the period and two of them go in just what the doctor ordered for the Skate and Utes. It’s a 4 to2 game and we’re through with two. Our 15-minute intermission starts now. We’ll be back in a moment for your third period of action here from the Salt Lake County Sports Complex. I’ll grab him. Hold it for a sec. All right. Let’s go. Did he score? I can’t remember. Okay. Okay. Well, we’ll still talk. All right. What’s your name? Ben. Ben. Okay. I’m Hannah. Nice to meet you. All right. Tell me when to go. Hey, youths fans. I’m here with Ben. And how are you guys feeling so far? You guys are doing amazing. Yeah, I thought we picked it up after the first. Uh they got two on us right after we scored that period. We were just buzzing. Got pucks to the net, got rebounds, scored two goals. Yeah. Are you guys will are going to bring the same energy for the next period? Yeah, that’s a goal for sure. Uh, we got to be a lot more physical if we want to win this game, but yeah. All right. Well, you guys are doing amazing. Thank you. Appreciate it, guys. Back to you guys. back from our second intermission. Period three is due up and tail of two halves really between the first period and the second period. First period back and forth action. And it felt like anytime the Utes gained ground, the Buffaloos were right there to get that ground right back. Last period, completely different story. Dominated by the Utes, 15 shots in total. They go on their way from 11 shots to 25 shots, 14, excuse me. And they limit, more impressively, limit the opponent to just two shots in that second period. And scoring is difficult when you only get two shots off. A great job by the Utah back check. a great job by the the Utah offense as well to take those opportunities that they were given and take a two to two or two goal lead in a 4 to2 game here as we approach our third period. Well, the big importance there was getting those two goals. They got the first one from O’Shea, set the tone in the period and then right after that was Carl who just gave Utah the twogoal lead. Now in the third period, can Utah sustain this lead and get out of here with a win? It’s something that they could get on a streak with, continue this weekend that’s already been great for the program and really just get the get the puck moving on the season. Division one team all tied up in Arizona after their first intermission at a one to one tune in Tucson for these youths. They’re leading 4 to2 after locking in in that last period. Really taking care of business. We’re more excited to see how they respond here. See how they play throughout this third period trying to close this game out and chalk their second straight win. We already said this earlier, but all it takes for it to be a streak is two. Speaking of streak, driving towards the net. A nice drive that time, but no cigar. Quick shot goes arai. Hunter Roslin that time or rstad, excuse me. He wanted a chance at it. They’ll have to keep searching. A nice block that time from Hovie. Now Donovan O’Shea bats it right back to him. Off the boards and back down into the near side corner. Owen Nelson receives. He’ll toss along the boards right back to him off the stick of Leuk. Now Fenny’s got it. Fenny driving towards the net. Makes a couple nice moves. just couldn’t couldn’t close on that drive. And now Smithburger’s driving in, but he’ll be stopped in his tracks. 1833 left to play here in our third period. It’s a couple times now though for Colorado that you’ve seen them get offside on a good breakaway chance. Maybe a little bit getting in their head now that they’re down. a little more pressure on this Colorado team, which they’ve been good, but maybe a little bit of pressure losing their their streak this year being undefeated. Feeling like they need that next goal cuz if not, then this one might be done and dusted if Utah get the third and go up three. Sorry, go go go go up three, get the fifth. Well, three-goal lead, the worst lead in hockey, but I think that that’s debatable, right? Isn’t a onegoal lead worse? I mean, I guess if you played hockey, you know that one. Threegoal lead, the worst goal in hockey or the worst lead in hockey. But for the youths, I think they’re happy with a two-goal lead. I think they’d be even happier with a three-goal lead. And already so far, albeit we’re just a minute and 41 seconds in. Already the pace of play faster, more aggressive. Colorado looking like they’re a little more woken up coming into this third period, looking angry and ready to score. Ben Weiners with a great move to get around to his man at the point of attack. Driving towards the net and a couple bodies prevent that one from finding its way. Nice job getting in front of that puck by Zayn Polish. He’s already got a goal tonight. A big hit laid on Malachi Lynch and a delayed penalty. Johnson not happy with the call, but I’ll tell you that Malachi Lynch is he wore that one. That was a huge hit on a guy with no puck on his stick. Believe that’ll be an interference call. And just like that, where’s it charging? Yeah. Uh just like that, after the last penalty, Utah scored within seconds. It was like 29 seconds, if not less, that Utah converted on the last power play. So, we’ll see if they can do so again on this one. A bloop and a blast is all it has taken. And they have a twogoal lead. Believe that is the forward Aiden Johnson checking into the sin bin for the first time tonight. And for the Buffalo, their third penalty of the night. All the way down it goes. That’ll kill some time. A minute 45 left on the man advantage for the youths. Kai Tweetton’s got it. Tweeton with a quick drop pass for Carral. Corral gets it over to Beers. Beers looking for a triage of points tonight. Should he get another one here? Back behind the nets along the boards for Carell. Carell’s already had a couple nice shots tonight. He’s got a quick pass to Beers and right back to him. Looking for that soft spot on the ice and he gets it, but Dylan Lawrence is there to stonewall him and four to two game. Remains a 4-2 game. A nice save that time. Another faceoff coming on that far side circle. But for the youths, it’s about getting pressure on Colorado. So, if they can sustain this pressure, we’ve seen it pay off. That’s how they’ve got four goals in this game. Sustained pressure pays off. And like you’ve said, it will eventually blow up. And that’s what the Uts need to do on this power play. Well, pressure forms Cracks and Cracks lead to goals. Oh my goodness. What a save by Dylan Lawrence. An uncontested net for Adam Corral until it was contested. Another golden chance there. Tweeton takes the shot. Connor Beers in pursuit and Colorado gets the clear. Under a minute left on this power play for the youths. That was impressive stuff from Dylan Lawrence standing on his head to keep this at a twogoal game. Without that save from Lawrence, we’re talking about a very different game here in Salt Lake. But that save keeps Colorado in it with 30 around 30 seconds left in this power play for Utah. Uers that time the quick shot on net. An easy blocker save for Lawrence. That far side. Leuke’s got it. Leuke, he’s looking for somewhere to go with the man advantage off to Daniel Carroll. Carol just able to get there in time. Sauces it around a defender somehow on his forehand. Quick shot. Quick save by Lawrence. Final 13 seconds of our first man advantage in this third period. 169 left on the clock. And elbowing was the call on that two-minute minor. Again, the third penalty of the nights for the Buffaloos and for the Utes. Just the two penalties on the tripping call and the boarding call. One in each period thus far. Quick shot from Fenny. Set aside by Lawrence. Now to the point where Donovan O’Shea waits. He takes a hit and bodies it right over to Daniel Carroll. Carol’s shot is deflected and they’ve got a one-on-one. Driving towards the net is Johnson. Aiden Johnson beats his man, but Wkelman keeps him out and a great save to keep this at a twogoal game. Wkelman’s been doing it all night. He’s been doing it all season. And so has that net. It’s got a mind of its own. Just keeps popping off the morning over there. The third time we’ve seen that net pop off. But man, what an amazing save by Wkelman. Well, you’ve got an uncontested man driving towards the net. Not only that, he’s angry. He just got called for a penalty he didn’t like. He goes to the box to serve two minutes and he has a gift fall on the tape of his stick. Nearly had a beat just missed wide of the net. And it’s just like that that Colorado can get back into this game just like that. But oh wow, Daniel Carroll showing off the moves. Showing off the handles that time and a couple nice deaks to get around a couple defenders. Now back down the other way. Smithburger’s got it. He’s got a nice centering pass for Aiden Johnson. Johnson taken off the point by Fenny. Fenny along the boards looking for a man in front and he’s got him somehow still with possession now driving that way. It is Connor Fentocker Smith Berger with a little spinorama drops it off for his linemate Aiden Johnson who takes a shot that rolls wide and they’ve got a man ahead of everyone driving towards the net is Jackson Ronick. Ronic looking for somewhere to go and it goes a ride just a little too high on that pass that time. I think he was looking for Riley Mutas. Now going back down the other way and he’s just going to dunk it in and get a quick change of skates on the ice. Chase Messer that time was the one who cleared it. Now ahead of the whole line, waiting in front of the crowd is Connor Fence Detocker. Down in that near corner, Corral knocked to the ice and it looks like we might have another delayed penalty going against the Buffaloos. Wow. Wondering if it’s a tripping call. Definitely saw Carral in the corner there go down without a puck near him. And it would be Brandon Hackit checking into the box. going to be the fourth penalty of the night in the second of the period. And it’s never a good thing when the discipline comes into to into question, but especially when you’re trailing late in the game. 14-21. They still have three quarters of a period to try and do some damage, but you don’t like your chances when you’re playing from behind and you’re playing short-handed. Crow immediately capitalizes and just like that the youth stretched their lead to three. You thought 15 seconds was quick earlier. 30 seconds to score on the power play. Earlier was impressive. How about 2 seconds? Man, you talk about the youths capitalizing on opportunities. This is their second power play goal of this game. Discipline, discipline, discipline for Colorado. It wasn’t there on on that penalty and the youths capitalized. Now they’re taking a three-goal lead within 14 minutes left in this game. You got to feel like Mr. Momentum, he is just going to stay with Utah like he has all game. It was just a beautiful shot. What an impressive drive from Alex Carell. He’s got his fourth of the year and he just keeps showing off that wrist shot and it keeps working back behind the net. 14 14 minutes now left to play here in this third period. The youths they lead by three against the undefeated Colorado Buffs. Quick save in front. Was going to say quick shot but Wkelman took the words right from me. Polish that time wanted it. You know, earlier in this game, we were talking about Utah needing multiple different people to get involved, get goals, and get points, but we have five different goal scorers in this game. I think that this youth’s team responded the way that they needed to, and looks like it’s not going to be called a penalty there, but they’ll call that time. Yeah. But looks like Utah answered all the questions that we had. Can other people get involved? than they have so far. And we’ve seen so much of that production lie within Connor Beers and Cole Turner. And tonight it’s been a little bit of everybody. Here’s Fence Democker. Quick shot and a save made by Dylan Lawrence. Fenocker with a great opportunity that time and a nice backhanded jab at the nets, but Lawrence was there to stop it. So Carell’s got his second of the night. He’s got his fifth goal of the year and boy is his shot still ringing in my ears or what? I mean, hit the post as loud as you could. Top left corner and there’s a look at it on the replay. Dylan Lawrence, he’s been up to the task tonight. He just didn’t know what hit him on that chance there. Faceoff win for the Buffaloos. They are driving into the offensive zone. A quick pass across the ice and are you kidding me? Did Ryan Wkelman keep that puck out? My goodness, he is a mobile wall in the net. It doesn’t matter what angle, how many people, how many threeon-1s are coming against him, he seems to just find a way to keep it out of the net. And like that again, just to mention that that goal is moving. Anytime that Colorado comes, WL Meer is going to be there and that goal is going to get off its hinges. Certainly. had a mind of its own tonight, hasn’t it? Finding the most optimal times to check out right when they’re driving down the ice. Wow, a nice pass by Fentomacher. Nearly paid the price with his body, but he gets out of the way. Aiden Yuma’s got it. Yuma behind the net. He’s looking for somewhere to go. Looks like Donovan O’Shea going to check out and another set of skates going to check in. Now they’re going to have to get on the back check. Quick drive is put to rest by Malachi Lynch. That was David Lebus looking for a lane that time. Wedged against the boards on the near side. 23 on 23 and neither man wearing 23 ends up with the puck. Still on that near side. centering pass all the way through and they’ll have to exit the zone and try and get another drive together. 1150 left to play here in our third third and final period of action. Nelson with a little tie up over there trying to find the puck. Quick centering pass and another save made by Wlman. albeit not quite as heroic, but the routine ones just as important as the heroic ones. And he’s really stood on his head since that first period. He’s not allowing anything past him. And with Utah still leading Colorado in shots on goal this period, 7 to five, really it’s been all Utah. Even though Colorado need to press, they’re just not being able to get the shots that they need. Well, and Utah’s making it hard with the way they’ve been possessing the puck. Also, with the frequency they’ve been scoring, the last three goals have all been youths. Donovan O’Shea gets his second. Carral gets his fourth and fifth of the year. Now all of a sudden it goes from a 2 to2 tie to a 5-2 game. And we’re up to the worst lead in hockey. Yep. Valco with a quick dish pass just to keep possession. and Smithburger looking for a wrap and nearly had it. A nice job staying aware between the pipes that time by Wlman. 11:15 left to play here in period number three. All the way down it goes where Valco waits and readies a nice pass ahead of the whole crowd, but it’s intercepted by Daniel Carroll. Carol, he’s got the puck through the neutral zone. A one on five and he’s finding a way to hold it all the way across the ice from Abiotas that just missed his tape that time. Keegan Tory now trying to box out and good back check from the youths. It’s been the story of this second and third period. Just brushing their men off the point of attack. It seems like every opportunity that that the Buffaloos have in driving towards Utah’s net is put to rest right when it matters most. Yeah. And Colorado, they just they can’t seem to find any room. Like you said, on the back check and Utah, they’re just they’re everywhere. Anywhere these Colorado players looks, there is a red and white jersey there to meet them. Icing called that time and Tori goes down in a heap, but fortunately it’s getting up pretty quick. Looks like no delayed penalty, no penalty wave that time and understandable. I mean, hockey is hockey here. You’re going to get dirty. You’re going to fall once or twice. What matters is how you get up. And the Utes have done a great job of responding to a great offensive attack of the Buffs early in the game. One goal for Connor Beers to get us started. Immediately, Zayn Pich gets a goal of his own. Then it’s Cole Turner, his second of the year before Isaac Nefs gets his first. So, we were all tied at twos. Two goals last period, one from Donno and one from Corral. And then the Corral goal this period. And I mean, if you’re able to score two goals a period, you’re going to give most teams a good run for their money. So, the Utes have to feel good about scoring five goals through their first two and a half periods today. And they have to feel good about their chances to try and call it a streak, make it two straight wins. And if they can do that, then they got a game tomorrow in which I’d say they can maybe make it three in a row. They like their chances there facing off against Wyoming at tomorrow night’s contest at 7:30 Saturday night hockey. Where else are you going to find that, right? discluding the NHL. And now a little drive entering the offensive zone. The shot a little wobbly on its way out. 940 left to play here in this third period. Cole Turner showing off the stick handling that time. Not showing off great accuracy with that pass though. Right to Colorado. So a quick turnover has them on the youth side of the ice. Pichek with a quick d quick drop pass behind the nets trying to find a man there. Now it’s Nefs. Nefs looking for somewhere to go. He’s got Polish right behind him but he’s also got Cole Turner on the point of attack. A twoon one. Carral looking for his third. Can he get it? He can get an assist. Three points tonight for Adam Carell. How about it? Maxwell Hovie burying the dagger. It’s a fourgoal lead and a 6-2 skating lead as we go through our back end of this third period. 905 left to play a 6-2 game. How about a Maxwell Hobie? And man, you’re hearing the fight song a lot here in Utah tonight. Six goals. We thought we were going to have a lot of goals in this one after the way this game started out. I thought it was going to be a little bit more of both teams, but the Utes have absolutely dumped on the goals here. Well, in the top four point scorers coming into this game tonight, Adam Corell, Maxwell Hovie, Cole Turner, Connor Beers, all of them have had their names called uh on numerous occasions tonight. And Carell has himself a three-point game. couldn’t quite get that goal himself, but a selfless play taking the only opportunity there. I think he takes that shot himself. It doesn’t go in. Hobie had to put back. We can look at it right here on the replay. Just as buttery as it comes, just like they draw it up in practice. 10,000 reps for that moment right there. And full well advantage. It’s a six-2 game, albeit uh two-minute man advantage for the Buffs. Corral after he’s been doing so much good. Now he’s in the he’s in the sin bin. His first trip tonight up to the points. Stones got it. Stones cycles center ice and they score. And immediately like that there’s that response back to just a three-goal lead. And with 838 left to left to play here in this third period, the lead is cut to three. A six-3 ball game. We’re still looking still getting excited about that last goal from Maxwell Hovy and Adam Carell, but a nice job on the put back getting that one through. A barrage of bodies in front of the nets and Wicklman, he’s been great tonight, but that time Colorado’s offense just a little bit better and it’s a six-3 game. Well, for Colorado, they might be thinking that they that there’s still now a chance now that they get that goal, that quick response, and still threegoal lead, but with 8 minutes left, you never know what can happen. Oh boy, there’s a ton of time left, a ton of hockey left, in fact. So, if the Buffaloos want to start making a comeback, now is the time to do it. Aiden Yuma has got it. Yuma to Malachi Lynch at the point. Quick shot that is screened on its way and hits a skate before it finds the net all the way around the horn it goes. Nice job getting that puck out in front of everybody and starting the drive. Chase Messer wants the puck down there. Messner first on scene. He’s able to respond and send it the other way all the way ahead of the crowd for Danch. Dranch drops it in around the horn. Off the stick of Wink and the Utes now trying to drive the other way. This one misses his stick. All the way down it goes. A stoppage with 731 on the clock. Back down onto the youth side of the ice we go for another faceoff. 6 to3 game here with seven and a half ticks left on the clock in this third period. Well, we thought it was going to be a high-scoring game and well, 6-3, nine goals in this game so far. It’s exactly what we asked for and it’s exactly what we got. Has not disappointed just yet. A twogoal period average is enough for most teams. They did two in the first, two in the second, and now two here, and or excuse me, three in the second, and now one here in this third. Quick centering pass. Cole Turner’s got it. Turner with some speed, looking for somewhere. Second effort, and it finds its way in. It’s the seventh of the night for the youths. And a big scrum behind the nets. Both sides getting chippy and official is down, but everybody else is up on their feet and taking exception to the youths scoring their seventh goal of the night. And I believe it was Alex Uers getting his name called that time. Set up by, you guessed it, Conor Beers, man. And besides the few chippy words that were said after that, the youth, now they got to be feeling good as looks like one of Colorado’s players is going into the penalty box. Looks like it’s going to be Hunter Rad for I believe the second time tonight. He’s checking into the bin. We get another look in a second. the officialing or the uh officials crew making their way to center ice ready for another face off between these two sides. Connor Beers checks in to the penalty box as well for the first time tonight. Chippy chippy. Yeah, a little bit of Rocky Mountain rivalry going on here in Salt Lake. There’s only enough Rockies for the both of us. for Arizona to officials trying to figure some stuff out down there. Getting the ruling in order. Still not seeing exactly what the penalty call was, but a late whistle there, a late goal for the youths here. And a nice response on that goal from Colorado a couple minutes ago on that power play. But then when you give up a a goal like that, it just allows Utah to get right back in the driver’s seat. And your chances of coming back continue to thin when you miss opportunities like that. And then when you Now it looks like they’re going to be getting some fouron-ourction. How about it? All right. Hey, four on four hockey for at least the next two minutes along the boards all the way down. 657 left to play. Continuing to tick here, stopping at 653. Expect this game to open up a lot more. Colorado is going to be I mean they’ve been chasing the game for a minute now, but especially now fouron four hockey. Colorado can try and take advantage and maybe give themselves a little bit of hope these last seven minutes. Well, a four-goal deficit is hard to overcome, but there’s a lot of uh a lot of hockey history and I’m sure it’s been done before somewhere down the line. A bloop and a blast, right? 653 left to play. Colorado trails by four in the final quarter of this period. A minute 52 remaining on the fouron four. Both sides checking into the box again tonight. Pretty good discipline in the early stages, but this third period the discipline’s been a little bit more brought into question. Kishek that time with a quick shot. Things heating up and now the youths with possession behind the nets. That is Kai Tweeten looking for somewhere to go. He’s got Corral in front of him. Corral having a huge night. And I’m sure he’d love a chance for a Hattie. Here it is. Driving in looking for somewhere to go. He’s got Tweeten along the boards. Tweeton sends it right back to center ice. Poke check here. Poke check there. Poke check everywhere. It does not matter. Colorado’s still got possession and they’re driving towards the youth side of the ice. I want to take credit there for that. A little commentator’s curse on Colorado as they turn it over. Another interception this time. The Buffalo’s garnering possession. Deonio able to drop it in. 22 on 22 action as Tory sends it the other way. Now Tweeten with a nice move. Gets some space after Leviss tried to poke that one out. driving towards the net and an offsides is called. Riley Matas that time had a head full of steam and he looked like a man on a mission. 7 to3 game. 40 seconds left on our fouron four action. Well, Utah for them it’s just finishing this out the last 540. just making sure they don’t make any mental mistakes and give Colorado a chance to make something crazy happen and see this one out. Make that streak start with two wins. Got to start somewhere. Yeah. Fabitas with a quick pass for Adam Carroll that time. Now Smithburger driving through the neutral zone and into the Utes the Utes court down on the deflection. A nice save that time by Wlman. He just couldn’t get the cover up behind the nets. A bunch of guys fighting for possession and Colorado going to come up with it. How about it? Nice back check that time by Owen Melson able to get a stick in the way of that puck and prevent the opportunity from coming to fruition. Wow, a good interception that time. Just missing on the other end trying to find Cole Turner. Turner showing off the burners that time and man enter some skates or some speed skating competitions. That was pretty impressive, but no avail. We’re going to go back down the other way. It’s an icing call. 447 left on the clock. A fourgoal lead for the youths and a big announcement. They score three here in this third period and step on the gas pedal. No sign of letting up. No. And they’re for Colorado. It’s going to be a little bit disappointing coming in here and not really showing up as much as they’ve wanted to in these last two periods. For Utah, it’s been nothing but answered prayers for them. getting goals, getting points, everyone pretty much in sync for three periods. A little bit of a rough start, taking the lead twice, giving up the lead twice, but once they grabbed that third goal, they did not want to let it up now. Nursing a four-goal lead. They feel good about where they are, but again, they want all the momentum they can harness, especially with a big matchup tomorrow night at 7:30 against Wyoming. Wyoming seems to usually match up pretty well against these M2 skating. We’ll be excited to watch tomorrow night’s contest, but we’re more excited to see how this one comes to a close. next finds the wide open man and one on none. An unreal save by Ryan Wkelman. Tell me if you’ve heard that one before. Tell me if you heard that one before tonight. Yep. He may have led in three goals, but without him it could be a different game. It would be a different game. In fact, he has been a man on a mission back there. Can’t save them all. No. That is fence to mocker looking for possession back towards Tory. Tory sends it back towards Melson. Melson just threading the needle that time with that pass. Excuse me. That was Kai Tweeten. Backside opens up. A great shot from Neps. An even better save from Ryan Wkelman. Aiden Yuma. He’s got the puck and he doesn’t anymore. That one comes off the tape. A big hit that time, but I think it was unintentional. No delayed penalty signaled on the ice. Looked almost like a two wrestlers taking each other down on that. Yeah, simultaneously. Put your hand on my shoulders. This one is blocked in front of the crease for Wink now. Quick pass finding the man in space. That was Ben Leuke. Leuke with a nice adjustment to stay on his feet and Donovan O’Shea back out onto the ice. He’s got Carral trying to feed it to him. A quick shot from the red line and another stoppage with 245 left to play. The waning moments. We’ve officially reached the waning moments of our third period. Yes. And it’s probably too late for anything miraculous to happen for Colorado. And like that, it’s probably going to be their first loss of the year handed to them by the Utes. Well, if it had to come against anybody, it’s understandable it’d be on the road against a team that has showed glimpses of really, really impressive stuff. Throughout the year, the difficulty has been the cohesion, putting it all together so it lines up and it’s a consistent form of attack every game. Because I mean Utah, this skate and youths team can match up with the best of them as they’ve proved tonight. I mean 4-0 coming into this contest. Colorado was the team to beat in this matchup. But the youths giving it to him here at home doing exactly what they want to do. Two-minute man advantage for the Buffaloos starts now. 241 left on the clock. Stones got it at the point. He’s got a quick pass over to Levkiss. Lev kiss across the ice and wanted him that time. Could not connect with Deonio. Right on that near side and the nets off the moorings. Another good save by Ryan Wkelman. Albe it not the most dangerous situation that time just keeping that puck away from in front of him and another quick stoppage. And Wkelman, he’s going to be, of course, letting three in. Maybe not ecstatic about tonight, but he’s going to be happy with his performance. Not not letting Colorado get too many past him. I think you’re exactly right. Probably in Wlman’s mind and in every goalender in this league’s mind, they’re expecting a shut out every time they go out there. And Simply said, it’s not always that realistic to be thinking in that regard. left kiss has got it on the near side. They’ve got a man advantage, too. He’s looking for somewhere to go. Got Stone at the point. Stone readies for it. A quick drop pass for Leviss. Levkiss going to take it himself. Waiting, firing, and the pass sent to the side. Now Stone’s got it. Stone looking for a lane. Another big save by Ryan Wkelman. 55 seconds remaining on the power play. Stopped by Stone at center ice. Back down the other way. Levkiss has got it. Lev kiss with a amazing block in front of the net. And that was Donovan O’Shea showing off the two-way prowess. He scored earlier. How about a nice block to keep the Buffaloos out of the nets in the final minute and a half. It’s been a big night for many players on this youth side. O’Shea Winkkelman. You can make a whole list of guys that would probably earn a player of the match. Yeah, I think that’s the exciting part of this. Like we’ve had mentioned a lot of their production had run through Connor Beers and run through Cole Turner and that’s not going to change. No, that’s not going anywhere. Those two are dynamic. They are going to provide these M2 youths with the lion share of their points. But to see everybody else getting in on the action is such a welcome sign. Carral showing off his playmaking tonight. Uers is able to tally his first of the year. Donovan O’Shea, as we already mentioned, he had a big night as well. Oh, a great chance in front of the Nets and a great save by Dylan Lawrence. And that time it was Cole Turner looking for his second goal of the game. Let’s take you through the scoring summary. It started 31 seconds in with a Connor Beers goal, his eighth of the year, assisted by Uers and Turner. Then Zane Pulishek ends up putting one in to not tie us up at ones. Cole Turner an unassisted breakaway goal at the 1158 minute mark of that first period before Isaac Nefs just barely over 30 seconds later is or excuse me a minute and 30 seconds later ties us up at twos. Two goals for the youths in the second period. None for the Buffs. And to start this third period, two straight for the Utes to extend that lead all the way to six-2 before Ben Clark scored his third of the year to make it a 6-3 game. And now the Utes are driving. Corral going to drop it off for Connor Beers. It is blocked in transition before it can find its mark. And we are out of time in Salt Lake City. Call it two straight wins. That makes the streak for the Skate Youths. A big win tonight. Seven goals of offensive production. A great night headed by Ryan Wkelman. And this is a big win. The youths get back above 500. A five and four record now on the early season. And more importantly winning here at home in front of the home crowd. Starting to string together these performances. Now they turn their attention to tomorrow night’s matchup with the University of Wyoming. and the Cowboys looking to make it three straight. And it’s not easy. You’re playing three nights in a row. Maybe you’re getting a little bit tired out there. Get some tired legs. But can they get three in a row and really extend this streak? Get a step above 500. Well, now they’re already above 500, but can they get even farther ahead and really assert dominance at home and make Salt Lake, this rink, a hard place to play where teams know that these skating youths can even upset an undefeated team like Colorado? Just the performance that they were looking for. And I mean, it helps get morale up. It helps get momentum on your side. It helps get everything in line cuz at the end of the day, Utah 4 and four is not bad by any means. 500 ball not bad at all, but it’s not the standard that the Utes have set them to or that set themselves to. Performances like this certainly help the cause. They get their fifth win and their 12th and 13th points of the year. That’s a big performance from the skatees and they’re looking to make it contagious, carry it over into tomorrow’s contest. And yeah, now that they got that going, hopefully they can really sustain this. And five and four looks great, but six and four looks even better on your record. It sure does. And they’re looking to do exactly that tomorrow. Some great shots down on the ice. It’s been a pleasure. My name is Ellis Beacum. I’ve been your host tonight. Alongside me to my right is my color man extraordinaire in Valentino Pardo. It’s been a pleasure for the both of us to get to take you through tonight’s contest. And as always, we will see you tomorrow night. The youths looking to make it three straight. This is my last speaker. Let him through, guys. Let him through. This kid got married, Sam. Oh my god. We’ll We’ll see. We’ll see. We’ll see. You can be You can stand next to You can stand next to him. Did he just You missed it earlier? They came up to me like, “My friend likes you.” And they’re like calm down. They’re like, “Calm down.” I’m like, “Guys,” I told AJ, I’m like, “I’m not Is it working?” Tap tap. Okay, you can be next to him. want to be too. You can be You can stand. You don’t can’t talk. No talking. No talking. Okay. Tell me when you’re ready. Hey youths fans.
