Postgame Availability | NYI vs OTT 10/18/25
need to get set on the bench at any point of that one where you know it it’s 20, it’s 3-2, it there were points where it looked a little discombobulated. Yeah, there’s a a couple moments where we kind of shoot ourselves in the foot there, especially at the end of the second. Um, but yeah, I don’t think we gave up. Uh, you know, after those mistakes, we kept playing the game we wanted to play and kind of tighten up everything. But, um, yeah, uh, there’s some stuff we have to look at and be a little more uh, mature, a little better at puck decisions. Seems like maybe the chemistry is getting there first year and both. How do you see it developing? Yeah, it’s going well. Um got chances were getting rewarded uh last couple games and uh Emil’s a very good player and same with Bo. Um Bo is a very solid centerman that plays the game 200 foot and uh very reliable offensively, defensively and and Mill has that for hell of a shot. I think Elia called that a wild west shootout. Just uh how would you assess this one today? Yeah, it was one of those nights we kind of traded blows a little bit. Uh I think both sides could go back and uh clean up a few things. I think it was just one of those nights where trading rushes and trading opportunities um you don’t want to see that every night, but it doesn’t matter. We found a way to to grind ourselves back into this and and simplify things a little bit in the third period and um coming away with two on the road here uh after, you know, a big win the other night just to back it up. Uh feels pretty good. I guess just talk about that resiliency. guys down too early and then find a way just is anything set on the bench or just take us through that. Uh yeah, we were just saying that you know we felt fine with how we were going. Uh had a really good look early. Um plenty plenty of uh ozone time and some good cycles that created some looks and uh we knew we were playing a fine game. Just had to clean up a few things and um get ourselves back into it. And I think we did a great job of that throughout the rest of the game after coming down uh 02 and guys just finding ways to to get goals or block shots. And um one of those nights it’s not pretty, but we found a way. What do you think about Ilia tonight on that penalty shot too? Turns out to be a pretty big play. Like I said the other night, I mean that’s um there’s moments in games where things can turn and you know he uh Pinto puts that in. It’s it’s it’s a tough hill to climb. Uh so Sroi standing on himself there and uh backing us up after that play and gave us an opportunity to to get back into that game and we took advantage of it. After that second period, was there some X’s and always work done on on backing or No, we just had to clean it up and and play more simple. I mean, we there’s we’ll get to that uh certainly uh next time we meet. But um we just had to be clean hockey and we were putting the puck in over and over throughout the night and we were getting the puck back. So, we had to get back to that a little bit, stopped trying to find a big stretch play or or up through the middle or uh cross ice, stuff like that. And when we simplify it, we started getting our pucks back and found ourselves back in the game. On the goal, I mean, is that just simply out musling the guy or, you know, a little bit? I I I just knew from uh when I came off Pager there that the way it was going to come off the wall, if I could just get my body into him and and get under him, I might have a chance to find the puck. And um that’s as far as my thought process got until I got it and then had to figure it out from there. But um just uh you know you have a p puck out there to try to go hunt down and and grateful that I was able to get good position on it. What did you make of that game? It seemed like it went in 16 different direction. It was exciting. Yeah. Both teams generate offense on both side of the ice, isn’t it? turnovers and and but hey, we find a way to win the game and that’s the bottom line to me. I I I think guys in this dressing room knows that we need to be better on our exit. We need to be better in our dies on coverage, but you know what, offensively, we were good. I think both teams were really good offensively, so that probably count as well. How do you balance kind of the the stuff that you just said needs to be cleaned up and I I assume probably the back check as well. Oh, it’s the first time. It’s the first time it happens. I mean, I thought overall, I mean, if you look at our game against Winnipeg or against um Edmonton, I thought we played well defensively, but today was was different animal. I mean, we um turnovers cost us. Um we made um we we made some u bad decision almost at times when they were unmanned rush. We could have played a little different, but hey, we found a way to win. And that’s that’s what I’m We score goals. Offensively, we we battle hard offensively. We We got those goals like I just said. But what I love is how resilient we were again. I mean, it’s it’s down two nothing. Came back 2-2. Come on. And then down 3-2, down three, go back 3-3, go down 4-3, going 4-4 and 54. It was a phenomenal play by Anders at the end. I mean, took that puck away from from Spence. and then bear down on the the wraparound. And just what did you think of of Ilia’s afternoon? Oh, he gave so many chances. I mean, we got to be better in front of him. I guess to see him come through. Excuse me. The penalty shot, Jess. Is it a matter of the big save? No way. Of course, it was a big save. I mean, in a game like this, every save is a big save. I mean, uh, and he made that one. I mean, we he played well in the third period. I thought in the third we were a little bit better, you know, but we still I know that we could we could tied up a little bit more our defense.

Lee with the spinarama!
Roy looking like a proud dad after that dub
Better clean up the D. Schaefer made several mistakes, over aggressive at times got him in trouble. Sorokin let in a soft one. Seen several times with shaky D. Oilers and now Ottawa.
These guys are showing signs of a good November onward.
