Dillon Brooks Phoenix Suns Practice Media Availability | 10-18-25

First, I mean, we got to ask, like, please tell me what happened on that play. Uh, one of my teammates got me with the elbow, but you know, that’s our intensity. Um, we play hard no matter what it is. Um, I’m all right. Just got six stitches and, uh, ain’t nothing that I haven’t before. Six stitches. Yeah, six. Six. Six. Who was the player? You keep that. Okay. You keep that under one of these guys. Probably villain junior Which obviously leads into I know you make announcement. What What is it about him? He said he volunteered for it. For sure. You know, he he’s he’s got that uh that energy, that uh determination. Um and now I feel like that’s what you know the villain really is is having that determination to bow through what people say about you. um what you know the misconception about you is and you know proving yourself every single day. Um so um he wanted that um and you know he plays with a chip on his shoulder every single day. You know he talks a little here and there um but he’s a competitor you know that’s what that’s what it’s about. Dylan, I’m curious for you. Um Jordan’s talked a lot about wanting to attack and get possessions. So, naturally forcing turnovers, but also being able to gain extra ones on offense. You look at your offensive rebounding, y’all. I finished top 10 in preseason. How have you seen the kind of intentionality with going after those boards, put pressure on your opponents, and also not keep you from losing your transition? Uh, we got something for that. Um, uh, for our transition defense that, you know, is kind of, you know, clever on coach’s part. I’m going keep that, you know, with us. But um you know we want to win the possession game uh because you know you watch these games even in the preseason games come down to one two possessions you know if you can steal some on any given on any given scenario or situation you know you got a better chance of you know winning the games and putting yourself in position to win games and you know overall you know we want to be aggressive we want to be physical um and we want to be the aggressors you know when we play this game of basketball. What ways have you seen the defensive trends shift since you came into Memphis in 2017? It’s quite a while ago like in the NBA or like on my on Phoenix right now. In the NBA. In the NBA. Um guys take more pride in it, you know. Um don’t back down. You see, you know, guys getting reward rewarded for, you know, playing hard, playing defense, being that number one um defender on their teams, you know. So, uh, I feel like, you know, before all that, it was it was a lost art. Um, and, you know, guys just fell into, oh, we’re playing against superstar. He going to get his 25 or thing. And guys have pride now. Guys have, you know, the aggression to come out there and play. I feel like, you know, I kind of glorified it in a way with Memphis with, you know, the talking and, you know, my team rallied around me and it, you know, made it known that, you know, defense is not lost. And even though they make all these rules to help the offense, um, you know, defense is what wins you ultimately at end possession games and championships. Who were kind of the most early influences for you? Uh Mike and Mark. Yeah, Mike and Mark, but I would say I would say more Mark, you know, defensive player of the year. Mike actually is a scrappy defender because positional, but those are the two guys. Tony Allen, um big part, you know, when I first came to Memphis, even though I played against him when he was on New Orleans and, you know, he was, you know, on his way out of his career, I always, you know, seen him around, chopped it up, um and learned different things from him on the defensive end. And then from the beginning, you know, Fisdale um was the coach at first and he always told me like you want to play, you got to play defense first and I just, you know, really put that as a priority and then, you know, 10 games in I was starting and never looked back. How have you seen your form of leadership kind of taking that accountability and your energy kind of verb with the rest of the team physically permeate through the rest of I think it’s just contagious. I think, you know, guys wanted, you know, to get better from the past two years. Um, the young guys are obviously sponges, so, you know, they’re going to follow suit, but, you know, I feel like it’s just guys want to get better and the only way you’re going to get better and what what Phoenix struggled with last year was on defense. So me just, you know, being that voice, being on teams that, you know, had good defenses and giving my little tricks of the trade to, you know, the wings and stuff like that. Um, it’s going to do us good. And, um, overall, just I just bring energy every single day from the morning. Like from like 7:00 a.m. I’m talking I’m talking to Oso getting his engine revving. Um, when we play and you just see me climbing up, you see everybody climbing up, you just want to do the same. I mean, it’s just fun. And then like, you know, like you said with getting turnovers, dunks, um, and stuff like that. And, um, you know, Man’s always talking out there. So, um, I feel like it’s just contagious. Put the battery pack in the back and, you know, can’t wait for this season to start. You mentioned the young guys kind of being sponges out there. Has there been anything with either of them that stood out to you, has surprised you at all? They don’t back down, you know. I try to do my little bullying, but they just don’t back down. They keep going. Um, practice, I’m just, you know, working out, doing a little drills with the coaches, and then Ryan and Oso will come over there and try to, you know, guard me and play physical and stuff like that and work on work on little stuff. So, um, just the energy is what I see that it just doesn’t never stop. And that’s what I like because that’s me. You know, you can never stop regardless of a tough shot a guy makes on you or, you know, they rev their engine back on you. You know what I’m saying? You just keep going, keep going, wear them down. And I feel like that’s what I’m trying to get through to these guys. And, um, you know, overall, you know, they’re doing well and we’re all excited to, you know, get to that first game. Appreciate it.
