Mariners ALCS Workout Day News Conference: Dan Wilson
Start with Gabe on your left. Dan, uh Dan, with all the excitement from last night and the the way the region is so activated, how do you guys leverage that excitement with keeping that keeping on task for tomorrow? Yeah, I mean, I think uh you know, this time of year u being able to focus is a big it’s a you know, it’s a big deal. Uh there’s a lot of outside commotion, a lot of outside noise, but our guys have done a great job of it and um staying focused and and we know that, you know, we have to stay focused on the task at hand and and there’s still work to do and and uh so that starts tomorrow. And so that’s really been our focus is getting ready for tomorrow. Good workout today. Um you know, get our minds back, you know, where where we need to be and and uh you know, um we’ll be ready come game time tomorrow to you know, to play and and uh but it is it’s a it’s a challenge. um you know to to to quiet the outside noise, but these guys have done a really nice job of it all all postseason. Other questions playing first. Yeah. Um you know, having played here during the season and then I think getting, you know, that’s always a little bit of a different environment than postseason environment. So getting a chance to play here uh you know earlier in the season we or earlier in the postseason obviously makes you feel a little bit more comfortable here. We know what to expect. Um you know getting out there again today get a feel for you know the environment again. Um you know from a from a playing standpoint I think was was was good. Um so uh again our guys you know this time of year um you know you have to do things that uh you know that maybe you don’t do all the time and and our guys have done that all all postseason. They’ll be ready to play. Um and uh you know come tomorrow um our our guys will be focused. Third row on your right. Dan, can you uh just talk about how Brian came through yesterday and uh how you might use him the next two games? Yeah. Um you know, I think uh getting a chance to get him out of the bullpen yesterday was big. Um you know, again, we we were able to go to our bullpen a little bit earlier yesterday knowing that we had, you know, Brian in the wings and and available if possible. Um and uh you know so getting him in the game I think was big. Getting him out there and comfortable. Uh you know all all those things that that uh you know are important for a guy coming back from something like he’s coming back from. All reports have been good. I think he feels good today. Obviously a little bit of soreness where you know you would expect it. Um but uh you know again this is uh this is an exciting time of year and and uh you know would expect him to be ready to go um you know uh going forward here you know out of the bullpen at some point. And sorry forgive me if this is already out but do you have a a starter for tomorrow? Uh yeah Logan Gilbert will be on the hill for us tomorrow game six. Could you just talk a little about about what you feel good about sending Logan to the mount in that situation World Series? Yeah you know he had a little bit shorter outing uh his first time here. you know, we were able to do some things offensively to kind of open it up. Um, but, uh, you know, again, just Logan is is a guy you love to give the ball to. He’s he’s that guy that, um, you know, has that, uh, you know, focus, that desire to win and and he wants the ball in these situations. And so, um, you know, you love giving him the ball. like with all our guys, you know, this is a a group that really, you know, in terms of our starters. Um, they really feed off of one another and uh, you know, they they help each other and and uh, Logan is is a guy that uh, um, you know, just really has learned that mental approach to pitching and and, uh, you know, he’s a guy that’s just wants the ball, wants to challenge you and and uh, he’s ready for tomorrow for sure. In the back on the left center aisle. Yeah. Hey Dan, have have your impressions of Guerrero changed at all? And what did you make of Shoi’s performance last night? Yeah, I mean, incredible performance. Um, you know, unprecedented really to to to see what Shoi did um, you know, on the mound and at the plate. Um, you know, he just, uh, it’s just, you know, almost unfathomable to think that that that, you know, one person was capable of that and and, uh, just a great ball game for him. Um, and, you know, congratulations to the Dodgers for advancing. So, um, you know, that’s a that’s an that’s a that’s a history-making game for sure. Um, in terms of Guerrero, um, you know, he’s he’s a great hitter and and he’s a guy in that lineup that is, you know, uh, one that, uh, can do a lot of damage. And so, um, you certainly, you know, you have to measure that and and, uh, when you go into game planning, you you have to understand that. And so, um, that certainly is something that that we’ve talked about. and and um you know going forward that’s a that’s a spot that uh you he continues to swing the bat well. So something we have to pay attention to. Second row on your right Tim. Hey Dan. Uh it’s pretty clear that the Mariners and the Blue Jays, not just you and John Schneider, but all the players seem to have a lot of respect, even admiration for each other. How does that dynamic shape this this series where there’s so much, you know, mutual respect? Yeah. Um, you know, I think, uh, both teams, you know, in some ways very similar. Um, you know, uh, and, you know, teams that that, uh, like to, um, you know, play hard one through nine. And, and, uh, I think that’s where the respect comes from. Um, certainly that’s what this series has played out so far. Um, but, uh, I think that’s, you know, that’s the exciting part of the postseason. That’s that’s what we’re here for is the competition and and, uh, guys going at it and going at it hard. And, um, you know, it’s certainly been a good series so far. and and uh and I think that’s a big part of a big reason why other questions for Dan Gabe uh reliever exposure has been such a talking point in both series. Uh when you get to a game six, does that maybe go out the window a little bit just because everybody’s seen everybody and at this point you just want your best guy on their best guy or keep that in mind? I mean, that’s a good question and and uh you know, I think in some ways we’ve been um u you know, fortunate a little bit in order that you know, we’ve had some um you know, we had a couple innings from Brian Woo. We had a couple you know, um games where we were able to open it up offensively as did Toronto. Um you know, and so you didn’t see some of the higher leverage guys. So, um, but but yeah, I mean, I think this is a time of year again where you’re you’re trying to go at, you know, your best against their best and and, uh, um, you know, you see how that plays out and and, uh, you know, I think we we’ve had some really good matchups here in this series and, um, you know, I think that it continues to to look that way as we go forward. Questions for Dan? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I mean I think you know uh we were able to to you know put some pitches on them early. See, you know, we were fairly patient when we had to be. I think that was a a big key for us. And then, you know, when we were able to to get pitches that we were able to hit, we were able to do something with them. And um you know, again, that’s that’s a big part of the postseason is is being able to um you know, generate the offense when you have the opportunities and and we certainly were able to do that uh the first time around and and that’s what we’ll be looking to do again this time around. Anything else for Dan? All right, Dan, thanks so much for your time. Appreciate it.

ZERO RINGS MARINERS 😎🫵
ugly Dirty team 😡
I predict Dodgers vs Mariners in World series. I predicted Mariners win yesterday by silencing Jays and it will continue in next game. I'm a fortune teller.
BATS HAVE TO COME OUT FAST, NOT 1 RUN, THEN NOTHING UNTIL LATE, ITS VERY HARD TO CATCH UP.. ..GET THE RUNS STACKING,..👏👏
It’s really simple! Pitch better than the opponent and score more runs!
Seattle takes the series in game 6, if not game 7!
