r/Lakers is a land of contrasts

  1. The ones who are extremely high on the lakers are bound to be disappointed. We are good, not great. 2nd round exit is my only expectation for this team.

  2. this sub is deadass negative as fuck, everytime i come in here my mood lowers, i just wanna be excited for the season to start and keep up with laker news but it seems like it only gets worse by the day

  3. 2nd round I think

Which is kinda underwhelming because I think Luka/Reaves/Lebron is like a top 1, 2, or 3 big 3 in the league

But you win championships with 2 way role players and we don’t have those. Smart might be the only one. You need like 3 of those to be top tier contenders

  4. Problem is we just have way too many one way guys and lack of defense.

    I would say:

We need smart to keep form like last game, 1 starting caliber upgrade 2 way guy with elite defense trade and another bench piece who is to lesser degree 2 way guy does not need be good as 2 above but offer least 15 minutes or so in playoffs.

  5. I’m being optimistic when I say this team has championship aspirations. It’s not delusional, we have a good team. Anyone that says otherwise doesn’t know basketball. What was OKC’s outlook before the start of last season? Did anyone have the Pacers pegged for ECF champs? I expect us to make it to the top 4 again, and the we will have a good chance of making the finals.

  6. People need to be patient. To learn to be patient. We don’t really know where the team is at the moment, and we’ll soon find out. Then, it’s a matter of making the necessary adjustments (to starters, by the deadline, whatever).

I feel the Lakers are *close* to being real contenders, but they need a near-perfect season, and maybe near-perfect is too much for the NBA as it is… So we’ll see.

I’m cautiously optimistic. I fundamentally understand the doomers and the delulus, but I disagree with both.

LeBron’s gonna be 41. It’s the second season with JJ, first full season with Doncic. We need to see where does Reaves, Ayton, Smart, Rui stand, etc.; the team is about to be veeeeery deep into uncharted territory. So, again, we’ll see.

  7. I’ll admit, I’m concerned. We’ve historically done poorly in LeBron-less stretches). But then again, that was with AD as our 2nd star, and he’s not the floor-raising, playmaking type like LeBron and Luka.

So if Luka is the guy we think and hope he is, then we _should_ have a decent stretch. If not… gonna be concerned a bit…

  8. Yeah well the first guy will be screaming to fire Reddick and trade everyone other than Luka a month into the season.

  9. We lost dfs .Lebron is out for 15-20 [games.In](http://games.In) short our best athletes are gone.Slow non defensive team w luka is not a good sign.I would be ecstatic if we could go 500 till bron gets back

  10. We have a better roster than the one we ended the season with last year. More defensive depth and a competent center that can rebound which we were absolutely desperate for last year. A fit and healthy Luka. A fit and healthy Vando. A healthy Gabe. AR, who ups his averages every single year and we have no reason not to trust that LeBron will come back and figure it out. This is the same man that basically had a broken foot and came back the same season. Hopefully we get what we need before the deadline but I don’t understand the negativity. Y’all are tripping. I liked what I saw in preseason. I’m optimistic knowing this is one of the healthiest versions of Luka we’ve seen considering he carried that Mavs team to the finals.

  11. People are forgetting we practically blew up the roster midseason and still managed to snag the 3rd seed. I’d never count out Luka motherfucking Doncic, in his goddamn prime.

  12. 500 is insane.
We where a 50 win team last season. Were better after the ad trade with a horrible schedule, no real big and injuries and we were still adjusting to playing with luka and the other way around to.
We improved I would be schocked if we are not winning 50 games at least.
I think we will be at a 50 win pace before lebron comes back tbh than improve that

  13. Yeah and they lack defenders and they still lack athletes. Their best player in Luka is still questionable in defense, though I like the effort he has shown in the preseason and the play he had in Europe.

Lebron, a year older, with injuries, with the future a question mark. Is your second best player.

Reaves, good scorer and questionable defense too. He’s a lot like Luka.

The addition of Ayton/Smart/Laravia are all question marks right now. They can be good but they have issues with health and effort.

They are not contenders, they likely won’t make upgrades in the trade deadline as they are focused on the next offseason.

But Luka and Reaves, with Lebron later on is still fun team. But a lot of things needs to work, all the best case scenario has to happen for them to have a chance at the ring.
