  1. I mean if KD can maintain this production for 2 more years this deal is an absolute steal. Say he puts up an All-NBA 25/7/4 on decent defense then it would be absurd value for the Rockets when you look at what other players are going to be making

  2. Finally a star player understanding that teams need some financial flexibility to build out their teams if they want to compete

  3. Rafael Stone has negotiated the best of all the GM’s in the new CBA era. My hats off to him

  4. >Durant was eligible for a max extension of $120M, but understood when he chose the Rockets as a trade destination that he’d be sacrificing money – in this case around $30M less – so that the sides can partner for the long term and give the franchise team-building flexibility.

  5. KD just left $30m on the table to give the Rockets more team building flexibility.

    What a guy.

  6. Dang wow that’s a fair deal for both teams. Stone had has a phenomenal offseason.

Great to see that KD will play for at least another two seasons.

  7. Damn, he left $30M on the table, that’s huge. He must really believe in this squad to be serious contenders – and with how Sengun and Amen are developing, they’re going to be top tier for sure.

  8. Good to finally see a team actually negociate with a superstar (granted and aging one) and not just go “g you’re great, you’re awesome, here’s a contract that will be a bad contract in 18 months”

  9. I’d say Raphael Stone has now secured KD, Sengun, Jabari, Steven Adams and DFS at below their market value, he’s been an incredible GM the last 3 seasons.

  10. Aspiration just opened up a Houston branch. Very unlike KD. Someone light the Pablo signal he’s needed.

  11. BREAKING NEWS

Kevin Durant has started a Tree Planting Company with a small 30 Million donation from ~~Steve Ballmer~~ an unknown source

  12. Makes him the highest paid player ever in career earnings still… Getting a max ain’t as important to him as winning now

  13. People in here acting like not every single of team would give him a max contract. This is an insane discount

  14. More teams should look at how the Rockets handle contract extensions with their own players. They are always below max and good value – even for somebody like Sengun who deserves it. Teams always freak out and give out these massive extensions for unproven players, but the Rockets are somehow able to sweet talk their players into taking value oriented deals

  15. I mean, duh.

Obviously KD giving the trade an “OK” meant an extension would be on its way.

  16. Man I feel so dumb.. I was against him coming here as I didn’t think he would fit personality wise but he seems to have fully bought into the culture that Ime brought in, the young core treating the team as close friends I. E all being close with Jalen even after he left it seems and all including KD going to Bari’s high school jersey retirement. He also seems to fit in on the court. I didn’t think he would take a pay cut

So glad I’m being made to look dumb

  17. I forget that KD went to college in Texas, I think he’s gonna have a lot of fun playing on this team. Every year I pick a WC team to look at, this year its the Rockets and Lakers. Whatever he didn’t get to do with the Nets, I think he has a chance to do on the Rockets.

  18. And just like that, not with a bang, but a whimper, the salary cap is dead. all teams will now be circumventing it.

David Stern is rolling over in his grave.

  19. Ok so the money he left on the table will be paid via a no-show job on the side then

  20. There is no way he rots the franchise from the inside like he has every stop he gone to. There just is no way!
