Oct. 18: Postgame Interviews

battled. Yeah, I’d say we we had a good full 60-minute game. Um, defensively very sound, strong, uh, great breakouts. Um, great penalty kill, special teams good. So, uh, really good effort by everyone tonight. What was what were the kind of the guys in front of you doing to limit their chances? Uh, I think we just played our system and we uh, you know, we had good habits and I think that went a long way for us tonight and and uh, uh, you know, it wasn’t right away, but we got one goal at a time and then closed it out at the end. So, it’s a it’s a good performance. Guys doing a good job just killing a lot of their plays, just good sticks tonight overall, I guess. Yeah, for sure. And uh like I said, even on the breakouts, you know, they were coming hard on the for check and guys were helping each other out, supporting the puck and um tracking hard and um and yeah, being aggressive, which is the way you want to play. Obviously, way better game overall. You know, I thought our habits were great. I thought our effort was great, our compete was great, and you know, it’s great to get that uh first one at home. Why were you so engaged tonight? You looked like you were all over sticks, you know, pucks and Yeah, I mean, obviously, you know, none of us really had a great game the other day, so, you know, including myself, and I want to try to have a b bounceback game. So, defensively, what do you like most about the way the team played defensively? Yeah. Um, like I said, we’re just moving our feet. You know, we’re staying on top, not really diving down and not letting them get too, you know, too many oddman rushes. Kind of just staying over top of them and just good sticks. What do you like most about the response? uh how well we checked and it was for 60 minutes. You know, that was a really good team effort and you know, they feel really good about themselves when you work and you play as five. Um you know, our goalender had to make some great saves, but they weren’t 15, they were less than five. Talk about Kyro getting off and he did obviously nice goal. How good was his stick tonight just killing plays? Our sticks were probably the best I’ve ever seen them um since, you know, probably since the the year after the Blues won the cup. You know, that was a really good year and that team had great sticks. Something we’ve been preaching and the players are starting to to do it. Hopefully, we can develop that consistently. But Kyru in particular, like his first goal was just an incredible reload uh where he backtracks, he has a stick on the ice, and and his god-given ability took over. What are the the elements you look for when you do have a checking effort like this? Like what leads to that? Uh you mean what do I look for for it to be successful? Yeah. What leads into having a good check game? Well, the main reason is we gave up eight goals in our first home game and five the second and we just thought that on the road we played a much simpler game. Um, we wore out the goal line more, wore out the back of the net offensively and then defensively instantaneously now you saw us get back above pucks and when you’re doing that it’s hard to for the other team generate offense. Did your checking your ability to check allow you to have as much ozone time as you had time to or I think it was a big factor but more more importantly in the first period we tried to force too many offensive plays because we had time to make plays but we instead of just you know possessing it and then either finding someone open in the slot 5 to 7 seconds later we wanted to find someone in the first period right away but in the second period I think that might have been our best period of year so far and not only just playing like you guys played, but playing against that team, uh, how much confidence does that give you both defensively and and overall? Well, it gives you confidence because everybody knows like a lot of people love Dallas going to Stanley Cup. Uh, it’s a really talented lineup. They’re deep. They’re good at every position. Um, they’re really good down the middle. I was really proud of our centers the way they did did on draws tonight and the way they competed against that those centers on the other team. Um, so yeah. We’ve talked before about how you like Tucker’s offensive instincts, I guess, on that snow goal. Is that just an example of him jumping in the rush and then driving there? Yeah, it was a really good example of it. We want our defenseman to be active. Um, I actually think that once we get in sync and we get in a rhythm, I think our our decor can be one of the highest scoring in the league. Um, I think we already have fair amount of goals from our decor, but I think it’s going to be more and more. We’ve had a lot of good deflections off of their shots. Way forward lines, the way you change season. Yeah, I thought as the game developed, the lines got more and more cohesive. Um, I really like the suitor line and the Shen line. I thought those two lines in particular had offensive chemistry and they were working defensively. All four lines worked defensively. Just how important is the suitor play at the end to fight for that puck and then get Yeah, you know, the the more we’re getting to know him, the more we realize how smart he is as a hockey player everywhere. And his defensive instincts are really good.

Hear from Jordan Binnington, Jordan Kyrou, and Jim Montgomery after Saturday’s 3-1 win over Dallas on October 18, 2025.

  1. As a person who has criticized Kyrou’s lack of 200 foot effort in the past, I’ve liked how he’s played so far this year.

He doesn’t need to be physical he just needs to use his skating speed and stick defensively to help the team at both ends. Tonight was a perfect example of that type play.

  2. Kyrou haters can kindly shut up, kid is night and day defensively better from 2 seasons ago to this season, effort is there, makes better reads, back checks hard. He will never win a selke but he's just as good as any non selke, goal scoring winger defensively in the league
