  1. I enjoyed watching the game. There were sections of the game that Florida dominated, but the wings were able to weather it. Florida isn't at full strength, but it was a great game for the wings.

The wings were pretty physical (by their standards.) Better defense. Lots of individuals going the extra mile. The passing has definitely jumped up a notch. I'd say probably the thing that popped out most for me was how many quality scoring chances the wings had throughout the game. And many of those at even strength which has been a huge weakness for multiple years.

I heard that the coach took the captain and assistant captains aside after that first game. I think this is very smart. The coach will always be the coach, but making changes from within the team is how you build true change. How you build camaraderie. And it's that camaraderie that will drive individuals to give that extra effort… help them get through when they have a downturn later in the season. I think this is a critical aspect of turning that rebuild corner with some speed.

It was great to see Appleton have such an impact over the last couple of games. Yzerman's free agent signings have been a bandaid trying to fill spots while the drafted players mature. It's great to see one of the free agents have a nice impact.

I'm excited for this year. I don't know if I'll be able to watch every game, but I'm sure going to try to.

  2. This game seemed like watching a little league scrimmage. It was 'just' a game. X amount of time going by.
The cats dominated puck control in every corner and every one on one battle. They seemed to dominate the body as well.

I'm thankful for the W, but it felt strange and there was really no standout play.

The number one spot is nice though. And the cats still ride dirty…
The leg sweep on Kasper and the dirt on Seider in the corner. There needs to be a bit more aggressive response from the wings.
Or better calls by the refs.

There's not a smoother set of hands than kane's!
