The Pelicans Have Found Their Next STAR…
The Pelicans have found their next star as one of their rookies come shining through in late minutes to try to rescue this team from a loss. And even though he wasn’t successful, he still opened up a lot of eyes and caused a lot of excitement for Bellicans fans. We’re going to talk about that player and look back at the game last night inside this edition of Bellicus Digest. What’s good with it y’all? It’s your people Mel on the mic. back once again inside Bellicus Digest. And I know we took an L last night, but you should still feel pretty good about it. And I’ll tell you why in a matter of minutes. But right now, thank you so much for subscribing. And if you haven’t done it yet, hit that subscribe button so you can be down with us here at Pelicans Digest. We give you the best analysis, rumors, reports, all that about the New Orleans Pelicans. And uh last night was the Pelicans first real NBA action against one of the top teams in the Western Conference. And I said this before the game even started. Don’t don’t get too gassed up on wins or losses on this one. I I kind of expected the Pelicans were going to lose this game. I kind of expected that because this Rockets team is as good as advertised. They’re as good as advertised. They with Kevin Durant added on to that squad. They are going to be monsters in the Western Conference. But you should feel good as a Bellicus fan because they hung in there. Okay. It wasn’t a total blowout. It It could have got to be a blowout, but it didn’t become a blowout. And that’s because of something that we’ve been big on on this show and I’ve been trying to tell y’all to get to take a look at, and that’s the depth on this roster. When was the last time you saw a Pelican team that was down 14 points come storming back in the fourth quarter thanks to his second and his third unit? It’s been a long time, hasn’t it? And of course, that all that was spurred uh by who? by the player that’s going to be more than likely be the next superstar and it’s somebody I’ve been telling y’all about is Jeremiah Fierce. Uh Fierce led that second and third unit admirably. Scored 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists in his game time minutes uh last night and just a a fabulous game. Fabulous game across 22 minutes. 20 points, eight of 15 field goals, two of six from three, two or two free throws, six rebounds, four assists. It was just a wonderful game for players. uh eye opening. He spurred the comeback. You saw him get comfortable, sort of figure this thing out and get busy. And again, 19 years old now on that like on one of the final plays of the game. I would have liked to have seen him passing, but again, 19 years old came in to get you 20 and six in the final minutes and led and led your second and third unit to almost victory after you sat them starters. Because here’s the thing about last night that that you got to pay attention to, okay? The Rockets went with a jumbo package, a big lineup to start the lineup of Durant Smith, Adams, uh, Shinguin, and, uh, Thompson. Okay. Everybody on that side of Thompson was 611 or bigger. So they whipped and when I say whipped I mean whipped up on this Pelican starting five of Zion Trey Herb Missy and Pool outscored them 72 to 54 throughout the whole game. Every time that starting five was on the floor every time that starting five was on the floor. I mean, it was it it it was crazy because the rockets were so big and long and lengthy that they were able to neutralize all the guard blade. Basically shut down P and Herb and Trey. So, so, but the thing you the takeaway you got to feel good about is they outscored him in the especially in the first half. The Bells outscored the Rockets in the paint, but at the same time, they were able to neutralize the guard play. Now, when the second unit came in or where you saw a mix and match of some of the second unit and the bench players coming in, they dominated. It’s It was a complete flip. The bench won the bench, the the Pelicans bench beat the Houston Rockets bench 74 to 58. Again, let me do that contrast again. The starters 72 to 54 got beat. The bench came in and gave you 74 to 58 against their bench. A a very deep bench at that because again the Rockets started pretty much all their forwards and their centers. didn’t put any guard on the floor to start until this until they brought him in on a smaller lineup and the Pelicans were able to beat them handily in that department including Jeremiah Fierce who once again his 20 points were already impressive but a streak of 14 points in the final frame to bring the Pelicans back into the ball game with was the cherry on top. He navigated screens with ease, rose high with pure mid-range jumpers and played through contact with a number of plays. All in all, the upcoming rookie uh looked well ahead of schedule for New Orleans. A trend that swallowed him for two games now. So again, you should be excited about Jeremiah Fierce. He’s going to get better. His upside is way up there and he’s already ahead of schedule. So this is going to be awesome to see. Could he play his way into the starting lineup? I think he could because Jordan Bu was out there taking a whole bunch of I don’t know, logo threes for some reason. And then Trey Murphy decided he wanted to take a couple of logo threes and that just wasn’t falling and working. Meanwhile, Ferris was attacking the bank, attacking the basket, attacking the ball handler. I’m sorry, not the ball handler, but his defenders. He was he was he was he was on point and brought the team back in it. Which leads me to some which leads me to another thing, another takeaway about it. And again, that’s about the death of this team. You should be super excited about the death of this team. this team was able to bring us back into it. It also presents a problem. Not a bad problem, but a good problem to have and that’s what are we going to do at the small forward position now because uh Looney was out last night. Looney had some some knee on it so they held him back. He he he didn’t play. Um but Missy I’ll get into that in a minute. I’ll get into that in a minute. I’ll get into that. Let me go back to this real quick. Let me stay on point. Yesterday in the video, I said that I got this feeling I got this feeling that Herb Jones is playing his way onto the bench. And when and what I meant by that is I don’t see I I see Herb being more beneficial on the second unit than he would be on this first unit because last night even though he got the start, Herb was still a liability on offense outside of defense. Now he was forced to cover Senuin which was not which was a a a matchup nightmare and It just led to issues. I I saw him being better used with the second unit than he was with the first unit as a starter. But Sadique Bay, somebody I’ve been telling y’all about, I’ve been trying to tell y’all about, also had an excellent night. 16 points, five rebounds, three assists, and 25 minutes of play. Compared to Herb’s 10 minutes, two rebounds, one assist, and 24 minutes of play. Again, this was first Herb’s first game action. this preseason. So, I I could give him the benefit of the doubt on that. It was his first actual game minutes this season. He didn’t play in Australia. Did he play in Australia? I don’t think he played in Australia. Uh, so this was his his his his first real minutes in action. So, you could tell he was still kind of still trying to get it back. But Sadique Bay has been on fire, man. He’s been on point. And at this point, if we got another game, we got another preseason game to see if Herb can step up offensively. But I would prefer her to be on that on the second unit because John Hawkins remains a defensive liability. John Hawkins, despite I think he scored 13 points last night, still was getting beat and I think Eastston scored 20 on him last night in his minutes and East was coming off the bench. He was You saw the one highlight where Eastston got past just drove right past him and went straight to the hoop and donked it. And that was all night with Hawkins. Hawkins kept getting caught and they keep saying, you know, and shout out to the to the Rockets broadcast team. The Rockets broadcast team was very complimentary to the Bills saying that they that they believe that the Bills are going to be better than what everybody is is projecting. But even they pointed out that Hawkins was has been working on this defense, but still was getting smoked before you put Herb in this position on the small forward so you can have some of that defensive shape up in the second unit. I’m sorry, but Bay has been Bay has been going crazy. He scored 21 in Australia. Now he’s giving you 16 against NBA quality talent. So, I mean, you may have to consider this, especially if you got a situation where the Rockets are going to roll out an all big lineup like they did and and other teams might. I was just so disappointed in that in the in the in the starting five. I was so disappointed though. like they were getting whipped every time those stop the the starting five was on the floor. It the Rockets jump out to 9 10 15 point leads. But thank goodness again depth. We have great depth on this team. They were able to muscle us back into this game. Of course you remember we were leading at I think at halftime sometime around halftime. We were we had caught up and caught the lead thanks to the second unit. So I So my takeaway on this game was I feel good and you should feel good about the depth of this team. The starters, they’re going to need time to figure this out and the chemistry on that squ on that starting five is going to have to swing it out. But at this point, I am I am we got another game to see. But as of right now, my starting five has Sadique Bay in it. My starting five has Sadique Bay in it because I I prefer Herb’s defensive prowess be on display and be able to help out that second unit cuz I think we got enough decent offense especially with Fierce there. I think we have enough offense. But if Fierce keep going the way he’s going and B keeps going the way he’s going. I see Ferris elevating into the first unit and P going into the second unit with her and then again that won’t be too bad now would it? What are your thoughts on the game last night? Uh again, what did you see last night that stood out to you? What are your thoughts on it? Clap back in the comments and of course don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share with fellow Pelicans, man. So, let’s get the discussion going. Do you feel good about this Pelicans team? I think it showed that they are capable of hanging in there with some of the top teams in the Western Conference. The Rockets are going to score 130 points a game. Okay. Okay. The key is you going to have to neutralize some of those other guys like Shenuin and and Jabari Smith and all them. I mean, they went off last night on us and Kevin Durant even scored that much. It was the other factors that that got us and offensive rebounding from Adams which I think we can we fix with with Looney even though he didn’t play. I want to know your thoughts though. Do you think this team showed you something last night that shows that they are capable of hanging in there with the Western Conference or do you still think it’s going to be the same old bells? Clap back with your thoughts in the comments, man. Uh and also we’ll be back again. We got another game tomorrow with the Magic. We going to be on that and we going to be covering that. But share your thoughts with me right now in the comments on the game last night against the Rockets and what you seen from these Pelicans this upcoming

Our bench is what kept us in the game. Big fan of Zero Fears! I agree, Herb should come off the bench. Hawkins needs Herb to help him out on defense. Geaux Pels!
The 2nd Line is real!
If herb goes to the bench is it for fears or bey.
Fears
Poole
Murphy
Zion
Yves.
I respectfully disagree with you on Herb…
If we don’t go with a big lineup we need to gang rebound
Herb should start to neutralize the opposition’s best perimeter players
We NEED A BIG LINEUP WILLIE. COME ON QUIT PLAYING FAVORITES. THE ROCKETS ARE BIG. STOP PLAYING SMALL GUARDS AGAINST 6'5 GUARDS. YOU HAVE TO PLAY MATCHUP..DUMARS NOT GONNA PUT UP WITH IT MUCH LONGER. FEARS, IS BIGGER THAN JOSE. JOSE NEEDS TO COME OFF THE BENCH WITH ALL BIGS . HE IS THE WEAKEST LINK. JOSE IS 6'0 TRYING TO PLAY WITH 6'5 GUARDS IT IS NOT A GOOD MATCHUP TEAMS KNOW THIS AN TAKE ADV OF THE MISMATCHES. IAM NOT A COACH BUT CAN SEE THIS. WHAT FILM IS WILLIE WATCHING THE GOONIES. COME ON . STARTING 5. MURPHY, ZION, LOONEY, POOLE, MURRAY , IF MURRAY ISNT AVAILABLE JONES. . MATV, BEY, FEARS, QUEEN, ROLE PLAYERS.
I’m not really moved because against Houston’s starters Fears didn’t play well… he went off against Houston’s scrubs 🤷🏾♂️ especially considering he shot the same from 3 as Jordan Poole tryna force shots because Willie wanted to run the offense through Herb 🤣
💪🏽💪🏽 I found your podcast. I had forgotten the name of it.
Looney being out really hurt the starting lineup imo because they have built up all their chemistry with him doing the dirty work, knowing where to be, setting screens,..moving off all screens…etc when a guy like that goes down it's gonna take a min to figure everything out.
