Bryce Young talks efficiency going into Week 7 | Carolina Panthers

Price, you know, possibly can get Chuba back. I mean, that’s a I guess a great pro problem to have is having both those guys in the lineup back there, both options back there, right? Yeah. Yeah, definitely. I mean, not a problem. Um, again, it’s a having guys having the the backfield that we have, you know, that’s that’s a luxury. Um, you know, I’m uh excited, you know, obviously how however that plays out, but uh yeah, we have a great group back there, so it’s it’s a luxury. Um, have you talked to Chuba? I mean, I guess that’s kind of a different situation. He’s always he’s kind of earned that role, been the guy, and now he may may not be the main guy, but still helping out. Have you talked to him? Uh, not about that. Chub’s just excited to be back. We’re all excited for him to be back. Um, you know, Chub’s a ultimate competitor. They all are in that room. Um, I know they um, you know, him, Rico, Trev, everyone. They just want to do whatever it takes to win. Um, so I’m excited for whatever it it ends up being. Bryce, what have you seen from this Jets defense? Yeah, really good group. Really talented players. Um, you know, there’s they’ve they’ve been a good group collectively. Um, you know, they’ve they’ve played good football. They put um put stuff together. Um, they have a good scheme. Um, you know, they’ve up front it’s a it’s a group that plays with a lot of um with with a lot of aggression. Um, they’re they’re a ferocious group up front. They do a really good job in the running pass game. second level. They do a good job playing off of them. I’m in the back end. It’s a really good group. They’re talented. They do a good job in coverage, a good job, uh, uh, sticky and man, they do a good job in in zone, um, playing with awareness, um, understanding what, you know, the understanding leverage. Um, so, um, we’re excited for the challenge. Again, we know it’s really good group. We we have to do everything we can during the week to give our ourselves the best chance to be, um, successful on Sunday. Um, but we’re excited for the challenge. What are some of the keys for y’all offensively heading into this game? Uh, yeah, ju just execution. We want to make sure that we can be efficient um with our stuff. We want to make sure we’re we’re efficient with our operation. Um we want to make sure that we can uh yeah, we can we can we can stick to our plan um and make sure you know we know as any game there’s going to be um adjustments in game. You know, we we know that there’s going to be stuff for us to um you know that that it’s going to be going to be different or going to be the same. Whatever it is, we have to make sure that we execute. So this week just making sure we we focus on that. Also, what are the challenges that you I’m sorry. What are the challenges that you feel this team has um struggled with on the road and how can you guys kind of get over that hump on Sunday? Yeah, we we just we just want to make sure that uh again we’re regardless of obviously being the bank is great. You get that advantage, but we’re on the road. It’s it’s the same field dimensions. It’s the same game. Uh just just making sure we’re consistent. And again, I think operation is one of the things that we’ve talked about making sure that we’re as efficient um in and out the huddle efficient with with getting plays uh snapped, all that stuff. Uh just so we can we can have that that that operation that breeds confidence, that breeds efficiency. Um so I think that’s one of the one of the vocal points of what we’ve been we we’ve been emphasizing. And then um yeah, it’s just just making sure we’re together in those scenarios. And I’m grateful because we naturally do that as a group. You know, we play for each other. we we bring our own juice. Um and and making sure that that continues. And you’re getting Jaylen possibly back this week. What what kind of a boost would he bring to you guys? Yeah. Yeah. Having that possibility up is is huge. Um you know, Jaylen’s been huge ever since he got here. Um great player of course, but but on the outside of just that, great for the locker room, work super hard. Um so it’s again, I know there’s the the medical side of it. However it plays out, um we’re excited for for that time uh nearing. I think most people when they hear slot receiver, they think of smaller guys like Adam, Mike Connor, people of that size. When you can put a Jaylen Coker in that position, what does it do when you’ve got two other guys of size with T-Mac and XL? Yeah, it caused for a lot of problems. It certainly makes my job um easier. Um just with the stuff that that uh that Jaylen brings, all of our Fs do a great job with that, too. Um all the people uh uh our our entire group. Uh it just it’s different stuff, you know? You’re able to have different things. you’re able to present different stuff to our defense to account for. Um, so again, having uh as as much depth in the receiver room and especially the different body types and different play styles that we have, I think that’s a that’s a huge luxury. Did you realize last year that Jaylen was a guy who was capable of playing in a lot of different spots? Uh, really early on actually. Um, you know, training camp, coming in undrafted, uh, OTA training camp, you know, it’s you don’t really get that luxury of, hey, I just play this position. You know, you don’t get to just sit in and be like, I’m only going to be X or Z. So, he had to go and and and just play wherever he could. You know, he was able to get reps at all spots. He was a uh especially, you know, the the competitor he is, he just wants to get on the field however he he he could. Uh especially back then. So, early on we kind of were like, um yeah, we you know, he I don’t I think he started outside like, yeah, he’s outside guy and then had to fill in uh inside like, oh, wow, he can do that, too. Play single side, play to the play X, play Z. and uh because of just how he came in his circumstances. I think early on we were like wow this could be you know he he brings that utility which is you know one of the uh you know one of the many things he brings to the team. There have been a few players who have specifically mentioned a culture shift um amongst the franchise in the locker room. Would you agree with that that there has been a culture shift and if so what does that look like? How would you how would you put that in terms that tangible terms? Yeah, I I feel like we’re definitely continuing to build um and grow in the right direction. Um I think really one of the biggest things that’s that we’ve noticed is just ownership. Um the coaches done a great job of laying foundation for us. Um and they’ll be the first to tell you, they emphasize it, making sure we take ownership in in the cultures, and the plays and in our routines and whatever it is. And I think um everyone’s gotten a lot more comfortable embracing that. Um embracing the culture, um embracing the ownership and all the little things. And I think us being able to come into our own um has been, you know, it’s been great. I’ve been, it’s been great to be a part of. It’s been great to be a leader through it. So, um, you know, there’s still work to do, still so much for us to build off of. We, we, uh, know there’s still, uh, so much for us to to grow in, and, you know, we’re just taking it week by week. But, uh, I’m I’m super grateful to be a part of it. Dave talked about when when you guys are executing and efficient, just the call sheet opens up and he’s able to call anything he wants and do anything he wants and how different that is than when you’re trying to chase. I’m just wondering from your perspective like the last two games, how how different has it been when you guys are sort of in control and able to do what you want to do? How how does it open things up for you? Yeah. Um, you know, like you said, we we want to make sure that as a play caller, you know, and as a offense, you know, we can be multi-dimensional. we can have the threats of run, pass, and you know, obviously the game dictates that stuff. Um, so we always want to stay ahead of the sticks, so always want to be ahead. Um, and you know, that’s that’s definitely something we strive for. Um, also we understand, you know, it’s a competitive league, you know, you’re going to be able to have times where, uh, stuff comes off the call sheet exactly as you plan and sometimes where, you know, you have to have to have to change and shift. And, uh, the great thing about this group is regardless of the circumstances, we’re always going to fight. We always believe. We always, uh, you know, know what we’re capable of. So, you know, we obviously have that plan. We want to stick to it. And then uh regardless of what happens on a week- toeek basis, uh we’re going to continue to to fight and play for each other. How does winning change the dynamic of a locker room? Um I I think it it it you know, it breeds confidence and belief, but as far as uh a work ethic standpoint, it doesn’t change at all. You know, for us, we we have to chase. You know, we have to we’re 0 and0 uh this week. Um you know, this is the most important game of the season because it’s the next one we have. Coach says that all the time. Um and it’s all that matters. So, we have to make sure that um regardless of anything that’s going on, um you know, you’re this it’s a week- toeek league. You’re only as good as this uh this upcoming week. So, um we’re making sure that we we stick to the process. Um you know, have the same intensity, same hunger regardless of what happens. And, you know, that that permeates throughout the locker room. It’s not just me talking. Everyone believes that. Everyone embodies that. And it’s it’s I’m grateful to be a part of a team like that. But, is there a burden that’s lifted when you’re when you when you’ve won or are winning? I think for us honestly um we’ve always just kept it inside. We’ve always kept it in the locker room. We’ve always kept it about the people in the building. And for us, we’ve always had that mentality. Uh success or no success, we’ve always just played for the next week. Um from the outside looking in, obviously there’s expectations and there’s burdens and there’s narratives, but for us, you know, we play for each other. We care about the building. So, it’s not a big shift for us. Again, we have to make sure we’re consistent, diligent in our work. Um you know, coach is always talking about chasing the work and that’s what’s going to make us. And we’re all bought into that. Do do you know um what kind of relationship do you have with Justin? Justin Fields. Do you know him? Are you kind of friends? Business friends long time. Yeah, I’ve I’ve I’ve Yeah, I’ve been around him a couple of times. Um the times I’ve been around him, it’s been uh you know, it’s it’s been great being around him. I uh know a lot of people that are close with him. Um and you know, I’ve heard I have a ton of respect for him, ton of respect for his game, heard all great things uh from people that have played with him. Um, and you know, it’s from a quarterback standpoint, it’s it’s you kind of learn a lot just because you know, you’re always watching film and you’re watching. So you you watch a bunch of people and um, again, from being able to watch him and watch him play and watch his film, I have a have a ton of respect for the player and person he is. Bryce, I know that I I know that he’s on the defensive side of the ball, but with the news that Pat Jones is out for the year, how do you absorb that as a leader of the team and just as a human? Yeah. Um, I mean, first, you know, first foremost, I feel for him, for him, his family, everyone. You know, that’s just such a, you know, uh, it’s worst part of worst part of sport. So, I I I feel for him. Definitely be be praying for him. Um, and, you know, for us, we understand it’s a fortunately it’s it’s part of the business. It’s a next man mentality. Um, and, you know, we we all want to make sure we’re we’re better for him. Want to go out there and and and play for him and and rally around that. Um, again, we all have confidence in in everyone in that locker room. uh whoever you know whatever it is that that you know the roster changes with we we know with uh whoever has to step up we’ll step up but uh I just feel for him things aren’t going well on the road you know 0 and three on the road three and 0 home but 0 and three on the road do you do I’m just curious are you like um superstitious at all do you start doing things a little differently get on the first bus set the second bus I mean do you is there anything that goes through your head that you I’m not I’m not superstitious at all I believe God ordains my steps so I’m not superstitious Is there anything you change going into being on the road after, you know, the first three games where it hasn’t gone so well? Uh, no. It’s it’s sticking to the process. Um, you know, again, there’s certain challenges of, you know, there’s a difference, of course, when you’re in the bank versus somewhere else. Um, you know, but everyone deals with that. That’s football. That’s NFL football. Um, we have to make sure that we can just, uh, be as efficient in our process as possible. Um, you know, it takes work. It takes point of emphasis and um you know uh being on certain things throughout the week and how we can make sure we can optimize our communication, but there’s no drastic change. There’s no uh there’s no magic uh you know magic magic talk or or one little thing that’s going to change everything. Um you know, we have to go out there and execute. That that’s what it is in this league and we all know we’re capable of doing it. Um but we have to put the work in to to put ourselves in position to do it. You mentioned just a couple minutes ago you you mentioned faith and all that. uh throughout when you look back at your career, the ups, the high highs, the low lows, what’s been the source of of of your uh being able to never lose faith in yourself and faith, family, friends, what? Yeah, definitely my faith. Um, you know, I’m uh I’m I’m I’m very blessed. I’m super grateful to be on the the journey of life that I’m on. Um I’m a big believer that everything happens for a reason. um big believer that God ordains all my steps and I try my best to focus on the day-to-day to focus on the tangible things, the um you know what I can have and what I can do in front of me. Um but I don’t believe I’m in control of the the grand big picture of my life. And because of that, I I’m I’m able to be confident in what I do, confident in my process. It lifts that burden for me and the Lord takes it from me. So, um yeah, it’s it’s definitely my my faith that uh has allowed me to be where I’m at. You touched on it a little bit earlier. um with the improved play of the offensive line, you guys have been able to really kind of almost run at will, especially over the last couple games. Can you talk about the value of that as it relates to creating a more fluid play calling environment? Yeah, I mean it’s it’s huge. Um, I mean the O line has done a I mean a a phenomenal job in all phases and that’s as it is and then when you factor in how much movement there’s been um you know obviously there’s there’s been injuries, there’s been shuffling people around it for for it to not uh miss a beat and everyone to step up like they have. I mean, um, I mean, it’s been it’s been huge. And like you said, for a play caller, for myself, for the entire unit, you know, when you’re able to be efficient in the running game, when you’re able to to stay on schedule, it opens so much so much more um opens so much more up. Uh, you know, it allows us to do a lot of things uh offensively. Um, so yeah, a ton of credit goes to to that entire room. Uh, it’s been huge for us. Appreciate you guys. [Music] [Music]

Young spoke of the importance of playing at the high level and that translating to the field for road games.

  1. One time I would just like to see a quarterback go that whole defense is trash I'm about to cook every one of them. Go into some detail about how certain players can't cover a parked vehicle 🤣

  2. I wanna see him succeed so bad and go off with over 350 yds passing, but idk if it can happen, please Bryce prove you are a franchise qb for the rest of the year

  3. 30+ rushes per game. Bryce will be an efficient winner. Need a better pass rush. I am still not convinced Evero is the coach for us. What is Keuchly comes back to coach?!

  4. Media wants there to be a running back controversy so badly that they dont even bother hiding it any more. They are straight up calling it a problem. It's clear that any coach would make them a committee backfield, I mean it was the whole reason Dowdle was brought here. Last time we tried a non committee was with CMC and the dude got hurt every season.
