Tom Wilson Lays a Big Open Ice Hit On Filip Chytil

Protest gets the puck, finds some room, try to pass, looking at a shooting lane. Now it’s Roy to the net and Deco a stick save on that one. We’re in the final minute of the first period. 3 nothing Vancouver. Mcichael around for Roy over to greet him as Marcus Patterson who tried to pass in the middle. That was broken up by the Caps. Now the puck thrown towards Proise who shoots and reaching in was Heedle to get a piece of that one and steer it over top of the net. Heedle ahead. Oh, he got hit. Heedle got hit. There’s a penalty coming up. It was Tom Wilson. Jeez. And we know the history of Philip Heedle. Carlson over to grab Wilson. And Heedle is still down on his knees. And of all the people for Tom Wilson to target, Heedle is still struggling here as he got hit in the neutral zone. And there will be a penalty to the Washington forward. But the Canucks hope it’s not anything more than that. I mean it we’ll get a review of this but it looked late and high as a player was going up ice. Well, you just feel for Philip Heedle. You can only imagine how angry the Kucks are right now as a team, players, coaches, management. And it’s a major penalty. You heard that from Jia Barrett. It’s under review and Heedle being helped to his feet by teammate Connor Garland, but you can see that he’s a little bit woozy. And this is terrible news for the Canucks. And that is a terrible hit by Tom Wilson. Yeah, that’s got to be a major for sure. I mean, the pucks moved there, a stride, almost two strides by Heedle before he’s hit. And Wilson already took a run at Carter Garland earlier in this game. I know his job is to bring energy to his team, hit what he can, but that’s way over the line. That’s That’s blind side and late. They’re continuing to look at him as Wilson awaits his fate. It’s not something he’s unaccustomed to through his career. He’s certainly developed into a valuable player in a ton of areas. Like even the people in the building, they just showed the replay on the big screen. They all kind of Yeah. were in a little bit of shock in a negative way against that hit. The impact was probably unexpected from Heedle’s point of view in a certain way. It was very sudden. He was stopped in his tracks. Yeah, he had moved the puck to his right, was gaining speed to help join the rush. And then from the blind side, the left side, Wilson was ready to hit. like I don’t the longer they’re taking I hate to say it but it almost you know they’re parsing through they’re probably going almost frame by frame and you wonder if that’s favoring the culprit in this. Let’s find out. Johnny Bear has a decision. After review determined that it was a good hockey hit, therefore there’s no penalty on the play. No penalty at all. So they deem it not to be late. They’d even shoulder to torso, I guess. I thought it was late. I mean, that was my issue with it. Yeah. I don’t think he went headh hunting. I don’t And you, you know, the violence of just being stopped dead in your tracks like that is going to cause you concern, particularly if you have a history of concussions. But I thought it was late. Yeah, that’s the first thing that came through my mind cuz we’re watching the play and where the puck’s going to. had made the pass and was cutting up the ice.

  1. No amount of money is worth leaving my wife and kids earlier than need be. Guy is going to have a mushy brain before his kids graduate high school.

  2. Maybe not too late but certainly vulnerable position… this is the hit the NHL has been trying to remove now for years. Wilson knows better. His wallet will be upset.

  3. So many newcomers or people who don’t know and or understand hockey this is why there is fighting in the game. Right or wrong this hit is exactly why a team carries a Matthieu Olivier and or Ryan Reaves type of player on their roster. Tommy wasn’t so eager to run around when those types of guys were on the ice or bench. Unfortunately Vancouvers best fighter Evander Kane who can throw hands was on the ice and did absolutely nothing while making millions of dollars. This hit will not only hurt losing a player like Chytil but it gives other teams the idea to be physical because it won’t get addressed or Until it does.

  4. It wasn’t late, and it wasn’t on the head, and last I checked, it’s not a crime for being blindsided. He can’t control where the guy turns his head!

  5. Everyone saying he needs to keep his head up as if Wilsons approach and angle wasnt purposely to catch him off guard. It might be a totally legal hit but come on

  6. The only reason people are whining is because it was Wilson that laid the kabong. Any other player and everyone would be saying good clean hit (which it was).
