NHL Highlights | Ducks vs. Blackhawks – October 19, 2025

We are set to go. It’s the number one pick from the 23 draft against the number two on the faceoff Bernard against Carlson. This one’s underway. Glad to have you with us on Chicago Sports Network. Both teams make a change early as we hit the first minute of period one. Puck on the near side. Battle down low. Picked up there by Senaka. He’ll put it in front. Caught off by Ner and it goes right onto the stick to McAvish. And a pad save by Knight early. Well, it goes right off the back side of the blade. The blade was angled. Now Landon Slagger playing his first game of the season. And there’s a long shot by Blastic directed on goal off traffic. And Gold Stall had to make a terrific right to save to keep it scoreless. Very valuable part of the game for the Hawks and protecting their net. Been a project starting to pay off. There’s a chance in front of Kier Spald and blocked the pass with his leg as it turned into a twoon-one down low. Ducks reset pass back down low. Senica took a pump picked up by Kaiser and the puck’s flipped out to center ice. Oh, not deep enough though. Here we go. Work back in Tavis just inside the line with a pass across. Nice steal there. It’s Mav short-handed. Elen Mav stole by Stall. They’ve had their chances including Mav on a breakaway. Still goalless. Play it across. Lenov feeds it to Bertusi. Back to Badard. Good drive to feed it over. Here’s Burkovski. Got the shot. Save. Do what a chance for Burkovski when he got the puck back. Missed on the first chance. Didn’t get a shot away. Getting Dost to open up the five hole and lift the stick, but he doesn’t do so. And a fancy little pass there by Bard. Right over to Burkovski, but he stays with it. And you can see that. And that’s what made that one a good one again. There’s Genel with a shot. No stall with the save, but he hangs on. Bernard 11 points, six career games against Anaheim. First period brought to you by Toyota. Hawks keep the pressure on. Pass top escape. Settle down. Bernard sharp angle. Do makes the save. He’s been busy. Some good chances for the Hawks to open the scoring. Yeah, byangelo. That that play happened because the Grizzlips good hands at the left point. Rick, he did a great job of getting that lacrosse ball to stay in the zone. Here he comes again. Over to Bernard. Ard shoots and off the stick. Maybe the shaft. They’ll still got a piece of that stewed away all the way around, but that’ll be intercepted and fired back down low from Matavish. Sharp angle turned away by Spencer Knight and Ken rules there and through the feet of Nazar. Murphy slap shot stopped by Goto. Ticked to the corner off the board forsky there to cut it off under pressure. Puck slides free and it might be an onand rush the other way. Terry with Patrono short-handed Terry in front. Big save by Knight on the redirection by Frank Petrono. Spencer Knight’s been sharp. Eight minutes left. First goalless in Chicago. Another good example of how quickly he seals seals the ice from the butterfly position. Granland’s on the box. Got a shot away. Now the Hawks could have numbers. Burki. He’s been out for a bit though. Slagger racing in fresh legs. Got a shot away off the outside of the net. Nice. Bit of a knuckle puck. Well, Bor’s got a lot of people here in Chicago. Played for the USL Steels. There’s a shot stopped. [Applause] Conor Bernard on the attack with a shot. Go with the save. Rebound chopped into the corner. That was a tricky shot to the short side. Jackson Lome had 14 goals last season, most by a Ducks defenseman in 14 years. And Lome doesn’t have a point this season yet. Meanwhile, there’s a sharp angle shot. Rebound stopped. Made two big saves and then other rebounds. Shovel one to the goal. Oh, that was close. Still goalless. Ducks came close on that power play. Watch this. Spencer Knight battling right through the crease. Period two’s underway. Faceoff win Nazar. But breaking through the half was cutter Goier. There’s a shot into traffic and that winds up in the corner. Carlson off the boards back to the line. Shot from the point by Mikov. Bought off by Knight. Shipped just wide. Couldn’t hang on to it with all sorts of chaos in front of the goalender and the puck rolls just wide. That shot from the line. Stopped by Knight. Found it through traffic. Normally does with his 235lb body. He got inside position there on Renzel. Made it tough for Spencer Knight again. He fights that off and oh Brian what a save with the left toe and right there the actually the skate there’s Bernard got past him picked up by Leo Carlson leads the Ducks on the attack right in off the post he got it in behind KN but sharp angle put him off the post and it slid across the goal line wide and then Carlson here fanned on the first one and then puts it off the post and he thinks it’s in the net there so he fans on it that freezes the goalender and it’s off the post and almost off the other post and the other got it. He just loves the game of hockey. He always has. I’ll never forget when his late father Rocky called me in Wheaten, Illinois, and asked me to take him out to a rink and win that teach him how to be a goal. Taken away by Leo Carlson. Oh, he almost gave it away to Bernard, but got away with it. Now Carlson with speed. Dropped it off. Here’s a chance. Shot by Crier off the outside of the post. Samronel trying to get his way out. There’s a play over to Terrain and he’ll play it ahead to Nazar. Knocked down at the blue line by Gudas. Nazar from his knees makes a pass to Donado. Bumps it across. Nazar feeds it over off the crosser. They score on the rebound. Frank Nazar makes it one- nothing Hawks. [Applause] Who had all kinds of time right here. It looked like out of control, but Renzel then gets out of the zone. Donado plays it back and here’s the play I’m talking about there. Bringing the defenseman to him, playing it over to Guy Kaiser. The shot gets taken and then it goes off the post there and in [Music] good hand eye coordination right here by the Detroit Michigan native slamming that home. Hasn’t been the ultimate clean game for Frank Nazar. Crider in front. Banked across though in behind. Final minute to play in the third period. Fired down the boards. McTavish. McCome with a shot off the post right off the left side goal post to the left of Knight. That is and they’ll reset. McTavish from the right flank. Flips it back. Carlson plays it over. Leone. Little slap pass. Tipped in front. Here’s McTavish. Scores. goes top shelf on the power play with 35.8 to go and this one’s tied to one. What a sharp angle shot that was by McTavish. Slick hands. He’s going to be on the right side of the ice there as the Ducks move it around in a sixon four formation. Tough to get puck possession time and it’s right here. Did it buzz the tower of the ears? Little quick play there by Terry. He’s trying to hit Krider. Oh, and there’s maybe a little bit of a moving screen in front. You can see where the defenseman right there’s trying to be the goalender and when you’re in that position and I know he’s dead tired right there but I get a little bit of a break myself. There’s a shot by Renel. Loose puck in front. Don’t stop with a big save off Nar. Came that close to putting the Hawks in front. The final 10 seconds and the Ducks able to lock it out. What a chance. Wow. Good push there. After giving up a goal like that, the Hawks don’t sag back. They get two good scoring chances. One by tender Knight that’s played so great. Blackhawks overtime brought to you by Hyundai. Second straight game they’ve gone to extra time and they will control Vikovski. Well, the player hadn’t come on yet. He gave it away. Picked up by Zelwagger. Carries, shoots, stopped. Knight rebound pass save. Knight Rob Zelwagger on an opportunity on his own rebound and Knight’s able to cover up. Yeah, I don’t think that Bernardo was fully off the ice on that change with with uh McKay coming back on the ice and that led to the opportunity there. Carried to center knocked off the stick of Goier. Good play by Kaiser. Here comes Nazar. He’s got MV stopped by Dove. Got the shoulder on that shot that had potential cutter go the other way. It’s a twoon one. Doier Knight with a shave. Got a piece of that steered to wide. The puck goes all the way around and down the ice. Twoon one. He’s got McTavish with him. Here’s the pass out of McAvish’s reach. His stick tied up. Good playel. Hawks have numbers. Three of them. Threeon one. Donado with Bernard. Manel. Bernard. Stopped by Bill. Rebound. Bernard in front. They score. Donado wins it in overtime. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] I’m not sure if Bernard left the ice this whole time, but a great play in the Dzone. That’s all Sam Renzel. Sam Renzel makes the play against McTavish. Now you got the oddman break and this shot was stopped, but he pri it loose and then gets it back to Donado. And when that happens, the goalie is out of position, but this is a great play there by Ringel. Now he’s got some help along the way. Donado feeds the puck there. Kind of handcuffs Bard, but all good shooters find a way to balance it out. And then a perfect pass right on the tape to Donado, who cashes in for the overtime game winner here at the United Center. Second career overtime winner for Donado. His first as a Hawk. He scored in three straight games. Now, that was fun. Bard with the setup. Donado with the game winner. [Music]

Ryan Donato finished with a goal and an assist, Spencer Knight made 38 saves, and Frank Nazar buried the overtime winner to elevate the Chicago Blackhawks to a 2-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

  1. The Blackhawks will have the best defensive group in the NHL in 3 years. They have 5 very promising defensemen 24 and younger on the NHL team right now and 3 22 and younger promising defensemen on their AHL team.
