Sens Lose Tkachuk for a Month, Habs Extend Hughes and Gorton, Panic in Buffalo and Vancouver?
Welcome back. All right, news of the day video for all you fine people on the internet for your Tuesday. It is October the 14th, almost halfway through October, almost halfway to Halloween. Uh, so starting off at the top of the board, that is normally how things work. Maybe Montreal watched my video yesterday. No idea. Um, my guess is they were already well into negotiations for this. Uh, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton have signed extensions with Montreal to remain in management with the Montreal Canadians. Uh it’s reported to be a five-year extension for both. U Ken Hughes has done a remarkable job with the Montreal Canadians. Makes total sense to give him an extension. Uh he was in the final year of his contract and is no longer. Uh so look around the NHL. There are GMs and coaches that are in the final years of their contracts. And when we talk a lot about players, I mean coaches and GMs are important. So uh there are definitely some some coaches and GMs out there that are probably wanting extensions soon. Uh bad news for the senators. Brady Kachchuck uh of the senators is going to miss at least the next four weeks. Uh it’s possible that he may need surgery. They’re not ruling surgery out. Uh if he has surgery, that might extend the amount of time he’s going to be out. Uh the good news if you’re a Sens fan, Drake Bathson will return to the to the Senators lineup tomorrow. So Ottawa’s kind of going through it a little bit right now and for the Ottawa Senators and Brady Kachchuck hoping for for a more injury-free remainder of this of this season, but losing Kachchuck for the next approximately a month is going to hurt them. Uh the Minnesota Wild were calling Ben Jones from the AHL. Uh hate has been demoted to the AHL uh to get him ice time and there’s some thinking as well that that may happen to David Yurichek. Uh, I don’t think Gerichek’s played yet for Minnesota. And it is that fine line, right? There’s players you want to keep with the team. They may not quite be at a point where you want them in the lineup necessarily, but you want them around for practice. You want them learning stuff. Um, but at some point, you got to get them ice time. So, they we may see this uh happening with year as well, just to get them ice time. So, we’ll see what happens there. Uh, Matthew Schaefer’s off to an excellent start to the season. Number one draft pick this year and all. uh he has recorded a point in every game for the New York Islanders. So I remember before he was drafted first overall, there was a lot of talk about how he didn’t play very many games and while it’s a small sample size and you know these these scouts, they probably don’t know what they’re talking about. This guy should go number one. Well, clearly and I’m not saying that we’ve got proof now that he’s clearly the number one pick, but three game three games and he’s got points in every game so far. It’s trending pretty well. I think it helps that Patrick W has a lot of faith in him. He’s using him in all situations. He gets a ton of ice time. That definitely helps when you’re getting that um getting that kind of support from your coach. Escrow. So, we’ve talked about escrow before. Escrow has not been a conversation point in the NHL over the last few years now that the salary cap’s going up. But escrow was a portion of the the money that the players would get uh which was pulled off their paycheck and put into a fund where they might get it back, they might not. And it depends on league revenues. Now, because league revenues have been excellent lately, uh there’s no escrow being taken off of paychecks this year, there’s going to be meeting where they decide if there’s going to be escrow taken off of paychecks in the future. But there’s also a chance that some of the escrow money that was being held is about to be returned to the players. The thing is that escrow money can also garner interest and they can get more money from esco escrow than what they put in. So, there’s definitely a benefit when things are going well for the NHL with this escrow for the players. Uh, but the problem of course to the players would be they don’t want that money later, they want it now. So, that’s where the escrow gets kind of a little bit dicey. But, if the NHL does away with the escrow payments, uh, just to show, hey, things are going really, really well. We’re not worried about that right now. I think that’s a a sign of good faith between themselves and the union. It’s a good relationship right now. I don’t see the NHL um doing anything that’s going to turn things ugly between the two sides again. So, yeah, let me know your thoughts, but I I think not having escrow taken off their paychecks is great. Um not having to explain escrow for the last couple years has also been nice. Um so, I live in the Vancouver market, of course, market meaning I’m not in Vancouver. Um decided I throw on my Bohor Bohorvat jersey because it’s one of the few times where I can throw on the Bohorvat jersey. Um, it’s three games into the season and it feels like there’s already panic in Vancouver. So, let’s review. They beat Calgary, then they lost against Edmonton, a team that’s better than them. Um, and then they lost against St. Louis last night, a team that last night looked better than them. Um, this is just three games into the season. I don’t think there’s any reason for panic. And yet, it does feel like there’s a lot of panic. Um, I I hear this and I think to myself, like, are these new Canuck fans? Do they not understand that disappointment comes with being a Conucks fan? I the the issue I have is simple. I did not look at this lineup going into the regular season and say this is where they’ve improved from last year. Lot of losses. Definitely having Demco healthy helps, but when you’ve lost Sudter up front and I mean the guys coming out from Abbottzford, good players and all, but I I don’t see the Conucks as an improved team and they missed the playoffs last year. So, at any rate, I I came into this season without any real expectations of Vancouver. Um, had my fingers crossed for for a bounceback, but it hasn’t happened to this point. But, it’s three games. Three. So, I I think people aren’t pacing themselves very well. I think there’s only one market that really should be panicking three games into the season, and we’ll talk about them in a bit, but I I think it’s way too early to be panicking in Vancouver after three games. three. It’s an 82 game schedule. It’s a little bit early. Uh Craig Barubi said yesterday after the game against Detroit, the Knander needs to shoot more and attack more and basically said that they’re looking for more from William Knander than what they’ve seen so far. Um it is interesting because doesn’t Matthews just have the one goal so far and I think Knander leads him in points. But either way, uh the coach not happy with things uh coming out of that game and he shouldn’t be. Uh the Toronto Maple Leafs find themselves one and two and I’ve I’ve definitely seen some panic in Leafland as well. Uh Primo gets the start tonight against Nashville. Nashville is kind of starting to put together a good record to start the season. We’ll see how far that goes, but um yeah, Toronto gets a chance to go against them tonight. Um both teams having played yesterday, no idea uh how that’s going to look. If you’re looking for the preview of that game, of course, I posted that on uh I post that on Sunday. I posted that on Sunday. All the days kind of blend together now. Uh Jonathan Hubedo could travel with the Calgary Flames for their upcoming road trip. Um won’t play until then, but that’s good news. Hubedo hasn’t played yet this year for Calgary, and I think it shows. Calgary just doesn’t seem dangerous offensively right now. So once they get Hubido back into the lineup, maybe that changes, but does that just doesn’t feel like they’re that dangerous offensively so far this season and they’re coming off of a year where they just didn’t score enough goals. That’s why they missed the playoffs this past season. Uh they were tied in points with St. Louis. If they’d scored just a few more goals, they would have been a playoff team last year. So we’ll see if Hubo coming back to the lineup helps them out when that takes place. Uh PL Dubois for the Washington Capitals not playing tonight against Tampa. He’s considered day-to-day. So, he’ll probably be back for the next game after this one. Uh, if he’s not back for the game after this one, that’s where we can start having the talk of. So, how dayto-day is this and when is it going to become week to week? Uh, Jack Rosik is set to debut tonight for the Oilers. Uh, they are not against the Oilers. Um, I mean, sometimes the Oilers are against themselves. Sure. Uh, they’re against the Rangers. So, I’ll just change that to an NYR. Yeah. uh Rosik set to debut. Uh that that really does shore things up for the Oilers. Uh they probably have the best best lineup on paper, I think, when it comes to their forward group in the in in the in the West. I’ll say in the West. I was going to say in the NHL. And then I mean, down the middle, definitely the Wings. I mean, we could have a discussion on that. I I didn’t get into forward groups. This is why I didn’t get into forward groups when I was ranking everything during the offseason. Um because four groups are tough because do you just do you go by the centers and the top six wingers? Do you go by the entire group of 12? Either way, Ross Levik gets added to that group of 12 and on a a contract that may very well turn out to be a bargain. So, uh the Oilers, a team that either has bargain contracts or far too expensive contracts. It is it is such a weird you can look at almost every player and say that’s a bargain, that’s too much, that’s a bargain, that’s too much. Uh Ross Levik in the bargain category. Uh Shawn Dery, this was announced yesterday, but I I didn’t make a news video yesterday because uh it was hockey all day. Uh Ro Dery is expected to miss the next four weeks. It’s an upper body injury for him. Uh they could use his offense Utah offensively kind of in neutral right now. Uh very early in the season, of course, but we’ll see if they’re able to get themselves out of neutral soon enough. Uh because otherwise the season can get away from you quickly, especially condensed schedule like this. Um condensed condensed schedule like this there. That’s all right. Um so Nashville uh Stamos. So Stephen Stamos hoping he has a really good year and and works his way onto the Olympic roster. And I didn’t realize this till I was reading it, but it makes sense. So the last time the NHL went to the Olympics before this was 20 2014 2010. Uh but either way, Stampos has never played for team Canada at the Olympics and it’s on his bucket list. he wants to scratch it off his bucket list. You would have to think this would be his last opportunity to play for team Canada at the Olympics. I don’t look at the Team Canada roster and project Stamos onto it. And so I I think he’s going to have to be like above and beyond. Uh the good start for Nashville might get him onto the radar, but I I don’t think Stamos necessarily ends up on the team. But let me know your thoughts. If you were the general manager of team Canada, would you put Steven Stamos uh on the roster or would you say no, we want to go with younger, faster, that kind, or uh how would you play it? Uh so I wanted to finish things off with Buffalo here because it is an 0 and3 start. Uh there were fire Adams chants during yesterday’s game. As I said in the the review for yesterday’s game, fans getting frustrated uh vocally, verbally frustrated uh with what they were seeing on the ice from Buffalo. And I I I don’t think this is an overreaction. This team hasn’t made the playoffs since what 1935. It feels like it. So the Fire Adams chance, could they work combined with the 0 and3 starts? Like management above Adams has to see that fans are wearing paper bags on their heads to the game. There was a jersey thrown on the ice, but jerseys being thrown on the ice, I’ve talked about before, and I I don’t there’s there’s various reasons that could happen. Um, but yeah, so and I and I I understand that like it’s done in frustration a lot of the time, but I also sometimes wonder, okay, so did that fan bring that jersey with that idea in mind? Are they trying to get the attention for it? That kind of thing. But Buffalo fans have every right to be frustrated and this 0 and3 start with two goals for Buffalo is concerning. Buffalo didn’t make the playoffs last year, but they didn’t struggle to score goals. Now they’re struggling to score goals. They’re not entertaining to watch. And it’s it’s getting pretty sad now. This would be 15 years that they haven’t made the playoffs if they don’t make it this year. So, I do think Adams should be under a lot of pressure right now. I do think that if this gets completely out of control after, say, 10 games, Buffalo’s upper management above Adams has to at least consider it. And yes, people are going to say ownership. Sure, ownership should consider it. Um, something has got the the the one thing I’ve said about Buffalo before, they’ve gone through numerous general managers during this this era of complete and total ineptitude and it hasn’t helped. So, I I don’t know if there’s a GM who can fix this and I don’t know how many GMs would look at the job in Buffalo. pro perspective GMs would look at the job in Buffalo and say, “I I don’t know.” Like, are there general manager types who want to be a manager in the National Hockey League who might not want to be a GM in Buffalo because of just what a tough time it’s been and just the job that that would be? Or would those GMs just jump at it and go, “That’s the challenge. That’s the one for me.” I mean, during during my video game playing days, I always took on the biggest challenge, but it’s a video game. Um, very very different to do it in real life. So, yeah, Buffalo Sabres. I’m not in the running for general manager. Not interested. Uh, but let me know your thoughts. So, let’s just say the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow fire Kevin Adams. Who should get the job then? Who would you want to get the job then? Uh, let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. As always, hit like and subscribe in the event you may not have done so already. Thank you guys so much for all your support. It’s greatly appreciated. I will talk to you again soon.

Fire Adams, promote Lindy and make Appert head coach.
Next Lindy greatly expands the scouting department and builds from there.
Buffalo to relocate to Southern Ontario in a Decade
Jim Benning for Buffalo GM
Shannon I do disagree with one thing you said. Buffalo IS entertaining to watch for all 31 other fanbases.
NHL needs to scrap back to backs as I'm sure thats a BIG factor for injuries; would bet anything (with our NHL gambling partners) that injuries would drop 25% with no back to backs.
adams absolutely deserves to be fired, but the main problem is the pegulas don't give a shit about the hockey team they own. they never spend near the cap. buffalo will keep failing until someone in management or ownership gives a shit.
The NHL just loves giving the Panthers a cupcake schedule, to start the season. A bunch of lesser weight opponents. What ever happened to giving a team that won the title(s) a tougher schedule?
How about having them face Dallas, Vegas, Colorado, Carolina, early? Joke!
Man, Carolina needs to tack on a couple more years to Shayne Gostibehere's contract. He should be making $6 mil a year, for how good he makes the 'Canes.
Sabres fans are chanting fire adams after 3 games.
Not even an Islanders fan and I want Schaefer to do well just to spite the haters lmao
Fire Kevyn Adams and make Terry Pegula the new GM!
U say its 3 games for the canucks…. but its actually not, its been 1 season of turmoil and drama and everything that happened but continously repeating itself. Its definately insanity. Notables include (low shot count, being constantly outplayed, dump and chase, no one shows up to games except 1 or 2 players, superstars (hughes/petey) non existent, goalies (demko/lankinen) left to dry and defend themselves and canucks can't score. That was supposed to change this season, there's a new coach, new system, new leadership group , new mentality and wanting revenge and drive.. but coming out flat.. the only time they came out was period 3 vs flames because flames were tired from a b2b. Before anyone saids "oh its a new coach and system" eh no.. thats why you have preseason , thats why you ahve camp to work out the damn kinks, not waiting till when it actually matter to work it out.. and its not like foote came in mid effing season, he came in ages ago, he had time, so no.. .this is why its panic, because not only did they not resolve any of the pass stuff from last season, they look significantly worst… if you don't see that, maybe check your eyesight.
Sabres fan here…or more correctly, FORMER fan. As others here have stated, I no longer follow the team. But (are you listening Mr. Commissioner?), the trickle down effect is that I have pretty much stopped following the NHL in general. Without a team in the running, I have little interest in watching two random teams play. Sure, if there is a Toronto/Montréal match up on HNIC, I'll tune that in. Otherwise, not so much ESPECIALLY on the US channels as their coverage is atrocious. I can't help but think that there are more (former) Sabres fans like me who have just walked away from the sport. Maybe this is why the league constantly harps on "growing the game" – it's to replace fed-up former fans.
Sabres chants shouldn’t be Fire Adam’s, more like Fire Pegulas!
Just retract theSabres at this point. Nobody wants to go there, nobody wants to be there. This is a worse looks more on the league than what the Coyotes were doing. NHL is a business that has to thrive if the markets are doing well at the same time. In this case Buffalo is a small media and metro area market. With the team being an absolute train wreck for a decade and a half who’s to say that it isn’t good for business anymore?
Terry is the problem. Hes a shitty owner. Worse owner in sabres history
Habs fan here, Just wanted to say, I've been watching hockey since the 1989 stanley cup finals, And this is the best management group we've had since the Serge Savard Era. Amazing job from Gorton and Hugues all across the board : Contracts, UFAs, RFAs, Draft, Media relations, Fan relations, These men make very few mistakes and understand the market very well. I also have to admit, hiring Marty as head coach was a gutsy move but I wouldn't have it any other way. Things are FINALLY looking up in Montreal.
Interesting you didn’t include the rangers having been shut out 3 games at home this season, well 2 I believe before the recording of this video
and the rangers are in free fall
Kevyn Adams should be fired now. Lindy Ruff I say he stays the season the reason being is no coach is going to be able to turn around this disastrous roster that Adams has put together.
Stamkos if he has 10 pts more than at the Five Nations pause last year would be warranted, you know there were guys who were messed up with injuries and even alcohol problems in the best ever team to be put on ice that didn't have Gretzky in it, the 2002 Team Canada hockey team, and Eric Lindros, Theo Fleury and even Shane "I hate French Canadians" Doan" participated instead of a more deserving Quebec based player at the time being much better than Shane Doan (there was a bucket load then, but I'll just name one out of a hat, Alex Tanguay, talk about a forgotten AAA player, only 'cuz he was shadowed by the other superstars in the Avs, but that one season he played he Montreal, he finished in the top 3 points wise along Kovalev and I think Plekanec (it was a Koivu is injured most of the year type of season, if I recall well, I might not).
Buffalo is a dog💩franchise! 0 🏆🤓 Starsforever❤
