The Suns will be taking on the Sacramento Kings to kick off the season at I will learn the Suns arena name sooner rather than later. But as of now, I’m still calling it PHX Arena. At least I’m still not calling it Footprint Center. I know it’s Matt Ishbia’s company. But with that being said, there’s a lot of things we got to get into on this edition of Locked On Phoenix Suns. And let’s start here. We’ll get to an official seasonl long Suns prediction. Where do I think they will finish at the final segment of today’s show, but I want to get some bold predictions out there. Some bold predictions for the Phoenix Suns season. Now, these have to be bold. We’re not talking about, you know, Jaylen Green will, you know, be the, you know, be a player who next to Devin Booker flourishes. Like, that is a prediction and it’s, you know, it could, it could not happen, but it’s not bold. It is these have to be undoubtedly make you lean a little bit closer to your car speaker or maybe replay what I just said. bold predictions but as well as you have to believe them. So these predictions that I’m saying although bold I have to have 110% conviction in them. So now that we laid the groundwork let’s get to my very first bold prediction. One of four bold predictions for the Phoenix Suns. And here’s my very first one. Devin Booker will finish top six in NBA MVP voting and make all NBA honors last year. Here were some of the here was how the voting broke down. Shay Gilis Alexander obviously won honestly, you know, kind of barely beat Nicole Joic in terms of uh uh how the point system goes. Didn’t beat beat him by very much at all. Nicole Joic was two. Jannis Kumbo was three. Jason Tatum was four. Donovan Mitchell was five. LeBron James was six. Now, here’s why I think that this is obviously a very bold prediction. One, all of these teams finished fairly high in the Western Conference or the Eastern Conference. So, for Devin Booker to finish top six in MVP voting, even the players that finished behind him, Kate Cunningham was a six seed. Uh I believe Anthony Edwards was also a six seed. Steph Curry I, you know, his team was a seven seed, so they were a playin. So maybe it’s, you know, a little bit more plausible for Booker to make uh uh the top 10 in voting, but I think top six is doable. And let me break it down like this. The Suns have like MVP voting is always over the last couple of seasons, a strong component of it is narrative. And the Suns narrative is they’re dead in the water. They got fleeced in the Kevin Durant deal. They’re a team that has no future, no draft capital. They got no money to spend on players. They are dead in the water. They are going to have to eat Crow over the next few seasons. And then we can, you know, get back to can Phoenix actually become a contender years from now. But they are this close to having to trade Deon Booker. That’s the narrative surrounding around Phoenix. And if Devin Booker can get this team in the playoffs, whether a six seed and up or getting through the play in tournament, whatever that looks like, that is going to grab people by the narrative thing. And here’s the other thing. I have said this numerous times. Devin Booker is not a one when trying to win an NBA champion or an NBA championship. He He’s just not. I think one part of it is bigger guys rule this league. They always have. Devin Booker is a little bit smaller and a little bit more is a little bit more thinner. Outside of Steph Curry, it’s a lot of Giannis DMPO, Nicole Joic, LeBron James, like even Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown years ago. Bigger players that can play both sides of the court at an elite level. I guess outside of Joic who’s been a better defender, but not an elite level defender like the other guys. that like that is clearly what those players are as superstar bonafide superstars in this league. But Devin Booker can be a clearcut number one in the regular season. When the playoffs start, he’s back to being a number two. He’s back to being at what he is best at, a Robin. But in the regular season when rules are a little bit more s or a little bit more softer and and Booker can get to the line a little bit easier and you can’t, you know, get right up in people’s grill, Devin Booker will have a masterful season. I think this year I think this year Devin Booker is going to average a careerhigh in points because he’s going to need to. I believe his three-point percentage will hover around 35 36% which will be three or four percentage points better than it was last year. And I think this offense that is going to be so clearly ran through him is going to pay dividends. And if this team is going to be a playin playoff team, it’s because Devin Booker went supernova Devin Booker for a 70game period that he played it out of 82 games. And I think other national pundits who vote on this award will take that into account and vote Devin Booker a top six MVP candidate. I believe Deon Booker finished fourth in MVP voting when the team when he had the when in 2022 when they won like 64 games, whatever it was. I think combine the narrative as well as the statistical anomalies from Devin Booker this year and because the only way this team is going to be a playoff team is if he’s awesome. He’s going to get some MVP votes and be a top six bonafide MVP guy. And right back in the discussion that he was left out of this year as best shooting guard in the NBA. And this one kind of coincides um with the next one. I believe the Suns will make the playoffs led by Devin Booker, but in a unconventional way. I believe this team will be a seven, will be an eight, a nine or a 10 seed. But I believe in a twoame sample period where you got to win one. If you’re, you know, the seven seed, you only got to win one game. If you’re the seven or eight seed, you only got to win one game. If you’re the nine or 10 seed, you got to win two games. I think with Devin Booker as their leader, their defensive backbone, this team will be a playin team and get into the playoffs. And I think once you look at some of the other teams like last year the playin teams were Steph Curry like these were the best players Steph Curry Anthony Davis um Sacramento Kings Deont Sabonis or Demard Roan you know pick your poison and John Morant with how inconsistent at times Anthony Davis can be but even in terms of playing and Stephen Curry getting a bit older I think you can argue out of those four teams who were in the plan last year, if you inserted the Phoenix Suns into those four teams, combine the Suns make it five, the Suns have the first or second best player. And if that’s the case, if I’m doing a oneame sample size, I trust Devin Booker to come out of that miniature tournament alongside their defensive backbone to get into the playoffs. So, I think this year the Phoenix Suns will be making a return to the playoffs. Now, I don’t have them going any further than that. And this kind of exposes a little bit my my full regular season prediction, but I’ll get get into act I’ll get into actually how many games they win and where they’ll land in the standings. But I think this team is poised to make the play in this year. And then when they make the playin tournament, I think behind Devin Booker and behind this defensive prowess, this team will make the playoffs. And that right there in its own would be a massive win for culture and for everything the Phoenix Suns are trying to build right now. So my two bold predictions, think about it. Like the second one is pretty bold, too. The Suns are at 31 and a half wins for their overunder season total. I have them smashing that by a few games and I will get into deeper what I think of that and I have them making the playin and getting out of the playin tournament with you know mixing it up with you know a Dallas or a Sacramento or maybe even the go the Golden State Warriors again but I think this team is built for the playoffs and I think as well as getting into the playoffs whoever the one and whoever the two seed yes they are going to beat the Suns But that’s not the point of the season. They’ll beat them in in five or six games, but they’re going to know by the end of it, damn, man, that team was really scrappy. And then going into next off season, you’re going to feel really good about the Suns cuz I like the direction of where they’re going. Two offensive bold predictions down, two more defensive bold predictions to go. Let’s jump into it next. First, today’s episode brought to you by our friends over at Pelaton. Use lock code locked on NBA at monarch.com for 50% off your first year. That’s monarch.com code locked on NBA for half off your first year. So, we got two offensive bold predictions down. Booker will finish top six in MVP voting. makes AllNBA third team and Suns make the playoffs by winning the playin. Here’s my third bold prediction. I didn’t think this was bold enough and you know what I said? Forget it. I trust the identity of this team and what they’re building. So, instead of saying that I believe the Phoenix Suns can be a top 10 defense in the NBA, which I’ve mentioned to you guys before and I think it’s going to happen, I pushed it up a little bit. I like the defensive personnel of this team. I believe in Come on, Malawatch. And if I do, why don’t I say this? I believe in the different exotic blitzes that the Suns can throw at other teams or if we’re or you know defensive personnel that the Suns can throw at matching up against people, blitzing uh uh you know players like Luca and forcing the ball out of his hands, forcing the ball out of Giannis’s hands, making other teams beat them night in and night out. Now, those players are going to get theirs, but it is going to be harder to do than playing when playing against them than against other teams. But I’ll say this, I believe the Phoenix Suns are going to be a top eight team defensively in the NBA. And you know what? If they’re going to make the playoffs this year, two things need to happen. One, Devin Booker has to be supernova Devin Booker at the offensive end, which I believe he can do. We mentioned that in the last segment. In the regular season, we believe he can do that. Playoffs is a whole different animal. And the Suns have to be a top 10 defensive team. And you know what? If I’m going top 10, I believe this team can be top eight. I like what they can do. They can throw different exotic defenses each and every night at opposing teams. They also have a lot of defensive versatility and depth at the defensive end. The offensive end, they don’t got a lot of depth at. If Devin Booker pulled a hamstring and was out for seven games, it’d be really tough sledding offensively. If Dylan Brooks pulls a hamstring and is out 10 games, I got Nigel Hayes Davis, who’s long, 6’8, 69, can play some defense, offensive end, question marks. And I got Rashir Fleming, 69, 73 wingspan, ready to come off the bench and take on some of the better players in the NBA. Just stay in front of them. They’re long enough to make shots difficult. And same, you know, uh, uh, for the defensive end, uh, for the or and same for the Phoenix Suns on the defensive end, they also have a different variation at the center position. Last year, it was Mason Plumbley and Ysef Nerkage. This team’s got real defensiveminded players at the center position. And it starts off with, come on, Malawatch. Yeah, Nick Richards isn’t an amazing defender. Mark Reynolds or Mark Reynolds, God, former third baseman of the Arizona Diamondbacks. How did that pop up? Mark Williams um um isn’t great at the defensive end. But all of them are better than what the Suns had last year defensively, which was a lot of Yousef Nerkach and Mason Plumbley and late Nick Richards begging them to save them. But Kamal Malawatch I think is going to be really good and I think he could steal the starting role from this team by three quarters of the season in maybe half the way of the season in. he has got a defensive backbone or he will be the defensive backbone for this team at times protecting the rim which is something the Suns haven’t had in a long time. So if you look at the new rotation at the center position and the different looks and uh uh defensive schemes the Suns will have this year given the personnel that they have. It will just be different. Here’s my other one. This one’s bold. I actually think this one’s bolder than Devin Booker being top six MVP voting. And I know that one’s bold. I’m gonna get in some trouble for that one, but it’s bold predictions. They’re fun, but I got to believe him, too. And I see the realm for the Suns to get to the playoffs. I think that’s what it looks like. Booker’s got to be awesome. Defensive end has got to be awesome collectively. But here’s a bold one for you. I think Ryan Dunn and Dylan Brooks make all NBA defensive teams. You know how I feel about Ryan Dunn. And I will be honest with you, the early returns on him developing a jumper this season are a little concerning, but I think he’s added a different wrinkle to his game as well. Offensively, getting to the basket. We’ve seen him hover around the room a few times, get steals out in transition, finishing it at the basket. I think he will figure it out offensively so that opposing teams aren’t just leaving him wide open to shoot. I think I will I will I will believe that. But I think Dylan Brooks, who shot 40% from three last year and has shown to be a I mean capable defender is like not even the right way to put it. Just a very good defender. A very good defender. And I think him I think Dylan Brooks and Ryan Dunn will be the catalyst and whole season backbone for this team. When you add in Dylan Brooks and Ryan Dunn’s ability to guard one through four and lead this team defensively, and I believe this team’s going to be a playoff team, I think that there’s a certain level of defensive intensity they got to play with, and those two guys are going to be the leaders of it. Let Deon Booker take care of the offensive side of the ball. Dylan Books and Ryan Dunn will both be all NBA defensive team level players. And just so we’re clear, like I’ve always thought Ryan Dunn is a allNBA defensive team level player. Like I’ve always thought that. It’s just always been the offensive end with him. Dylan Brooks. I think that his influence on this team is going to be infectious from the defensive side of the ball. And I think he’s going to lead it and Ryan Dunn will co-lead it. But those two guys are going to do a lot on this team that will not show up on the stat sheet. But I think at the end of the year, they’re going to get rewarded with the both of them making all defensive team honors. Again, guys, these are bold predictions. You can kill me in the comment section. I understand it. But these are bold predictions. We’re not talking about, oh, Jaylen Green’s going to be good this year. That’s not bold. We’re talking bold here on Locked on Phoenix Suns. Let’s get to one last prediction for the season. Not bold, but my official seasonl long Phoenix Suns prediction. Let’s talk about that next. First, today’s show is brought to you by our lovely friends over at FanDuel. The NFL season’s here and FanDuel has an offer you don’t want to miss. Right now, new customers can bet just $5 and and get $300 in bonus bets if their bet wins. That’s right. Pick a bet, put down five bucks, and if it hits, you unlock $300 in bonus bets to use across the app. Listen, I am not a professional better, but I do know my Arizona Cardinals. Go back the last couple weeks. I’ve been telling you guys on what to bet here, but outside of week one where I missed it by half a point, I have gotten the Arizona Cardinal spread right every single week, including this last week where the Cardinals were plus six and a half and they smashed that. They covered that. And listen, I told you you don’t feel good about that, then sprinkle a little bit of money on the Packers to win. That was always probably the best bet and the more sure thing. You know, nothing’s sure thing in betting, but those things kind of feel pretty good about it. So, what are you waiting for? Visit fanuel.com to download the FanDuel app today and get started. Today’s episode is also brought to you by our friends over at Game Time. Basketball season is officially here. Yes, it freaking is. And nothing beats being in the arena for those opening games. But let’s be real, getting tickets can be a headache between waiting in cues, surprise fees, and price that jump up right before checkout. It’s easy to get frustrated when all you want to do is cheer on your team. That’s where f that’s where game time comes in. The app that gives the fans the advantage. It’s your ultimate life hack for scoring amazing NBA tickets fast, easy, and stressfree. I love Game Time. I know that you can actually use them obviously for like the Suns game on Wednesday. And and guess what? You’re going to find a great price on Game Time because that’s what they do. And you’re going to be able to see when you pick a a seat, what that seat looks like when you’re sitting there, what your view will look like. Is it obstructed? Like I’ve also used Game Time to buy concert tickets. I bought them tickets one time to uh uh to Blink 182. got some tickets, you know, super late in the game, like two hours before showtime, and I got a great price. Take the guess what buying NBA tickets with game time. The down the game time app, create an account. Use code lockdown NBA for $20 off your first purchase. Terms apply. That’s code len NBA for $20 off. Swipe, tap, ticket, go game time. Let’s close out the show here. This is my official, you know, everything, you know, all put all the chickens, the eggs in one basket and give your full seasonl long prediction. So, I’ve told you the bowl predictions. Booker top six and MVP voting makes all third team. Suns make the playoffs by winning the playin, meaning they make the playin, but they uh uh you know, they win and get in. Uh Suns are a top eight defensive team. and then Ryan Dunn and Dylan Brooks make all the NBA uh make all defensive NBA teams. So here here’s more or less what the uh Western Conference is going to look like. I think you got Oklahoma City as the one seed, the Denver Nuggets as the two seed, the Houston Rockets as the three seed. I think the Minnesota Timberwolves should probably be the four seed, the Clippers as the five seed. And then it kind of gets interesting, right? Cuz what do I do with Dallas? I think Dallas probably gets in at the six seed. You have the San Antonio Spurs who are really interesting as well but a little young probably the seven seed. This is where it becomes kind of interesting because I know I missed out on the Clippers like the Western Conference is truly loaded and this is me kind of just eyeballing it. I know I’m 95% sure Thunder are going to be the first seed. You know uh uh the Denver Nuggets going to be the two seed but I’m just laying that out for you so you can kind of understand what the what the West’s going to look like. It’s a gauntlet. like teams are going to drop out, some teams are going to come in. I think there’s a very strong chance the Los Angeles Lakers just stink this year. I think LeBron James is frustrated about his role with the with the uh Los Angeles Lakers and that a team is fin is for the first time not bowing down to everything he wants and more. He’s not used to that. I think he’s frustrated. I think there’s a chance they miss it all in a all on its own. I you know I was high on the Clippers but I’m also maybe in the regular season they’re just awesome but I can’t buy a team that’s led by Bradley Beiel James Harden and Kawhi Leonard either emotionally unavailable players or physically unavailable players and you’re not really sure when those things are going to happen. Maybe they’re just bad in the playoffs but I could see that team combusting from the inside. And then of course the Spurs are going to be frisky. They’re probably going to be a playoff team this year. The Portland Trailblazers are kind of in that Suns tier, but don’t have a player as good as Devin Booker. And so, probably’ll be a little bit worse than them. I think the Suns finish with the eighth seed in the Western Conference. I think they win, man. Why am I saying this? I think they win 39 games. So, I think they go 39 and 43. Three games over um what they won last year. And I think what I mean math’s correct seven and a half eight games over their their so smashing their over at that is 31 and a half and this is obviously injuries not included meaning everyone is healthy. I’ll take the Suns as the eighth seed going 39 and 43 in the regular season. And I know that that is God as I say that it I’ve been thinking about this all day and as I say that it’s that almost feels like a bold prediction but either way eight seed nine seed at 39 wins I think they get into the playoffs winning through the the playin tournament because I think that they have someone in Devin Booker that some of these other teams don’t have. Stephen Curry is a little bit older. Anthony Davis oftentimes unavailable. um and can sometimes be a no-show in big games. I know Booker has a little bit of that reputation, too, but I’m going to lean on the identity of the Suns and this offense flowing through Devin Booker. But with that being said, I’ll make it official. I’ll take the Suns as the eight seed. Okay, I’m sorry. I I I’ve been thinking about this all day, but I I’ve got to come back. I’ve got I’ll call I’ll give the Suns the nine seed in the NBA playoffs winning 39 games. As I’m saying it and as I’ve been thinking over like I’m looking at my notes right here, that’s a little too rich for me and that doesn’t need to be a bold prediction. So, I’ll take the Suns as the ninth seed in the uh uh in the NBA playoffs this year. I will lean on their defensive culture. I will lean on Devin Booker and call it a hunch, but I like what I’ve seen the preseason and so therefore I’m really starting to buy in to this idea of um of Jordan not meaning I believe he could be just a budding superstar head coach. The offense should not look this different from last year to this year without Kevin Durant. But it does and that’s a credit to Jordan not that’s a credit to the whole card the whole Cardinals the whole Phoenix Suns front office. So with that being said I’ll do it. I’ll take the Suns to win the play in tournament. I’ll take them as a nine seed. Booker being a top six MVP voting which is is going to be tough but that’s a bold prediction. Makes all NBA third team. Suns make the Suns win the play. Suns are a top eight defensive team. Brian Dunn and Dylan Brooks both make all defensive NBA teams. Guys, at the end of the day, what is appropriate expectations is that the Suns make the playin tournament. Don’t rise your expectations to more than they should be. Just because I’m predicting that they’ll win the playin tournament doesn’t mean that is exactly what should happen. I believe that the correct expectations are play in team because of what we saw in the preseason because of how this roster is currently constructed. So, you know, I still have them under 500 and so the Suns are going to lose more games that they win this year, but overall at the end of the day, what matters is building that foundation. And if this team makes the playin, which would be better than they were last year, and if they win the playin, I mean, they’re ahead of schedule. They’re just remarkably ahead of schedule. And I’m stoked, man. I’m stoked for this Sun’s season. Outside of uh, you know, some of the other, you know, outside of what ASU football, uh, Arizona sports is looking a little bleak as of right now. So, I’m excited for the Sun’s season. Damonte Sabonis might miss the game on Wednesday. And also, be ready. I’m going to do a little preview show for the Suns opening day or opening day opening night game against Sacramento Kings with my guy Matt Georgia locked on Sacramento Kings. So be on the lookout for that tomorrow night. But with that being said, guys, thanks for riding with me all off season long. The regular season is here for everyone in the comment section tuning in. Lets have a damn season fellas! 👊
Not with Green hurt to start, Ben.
Anything is better than the last two seasons
