RINK WIDE POST-GAME: Vancouver Canucks at Washington Capitals | Game #6 – Oct. 19, 2025
The Canucks with a third straight win to start the road trip beat the Capitals 4-3 in Washington. Lots to talk about and we’ll do that now on Ringquad Vancouver. [Music] [Applause] [Music] and we welcome you inside the Pacific Toyota dealer studios. Visit shop toyota.ca or your local Pacific Toyota dealer. Today I’m Jeff Patterson. He’s Tyson Cole. The Vancouver Conucks three for three to start this road trip. Three wins in Dallas in Chicago and this one in Washington. Two stops to go now as they head to Pittsburgh and then to Nashville. The victory impressive in and of itself, more so when you consider uh the Conucks were down a couple of forwards in this hockey game. And that’s really the big talking point I think Tyson to come out of this. The Tom Wilson hit on Philip Heedle. Fingers crossed for Heedle and his well-being. But the Canucks not deterred. Uh give them credit. Pretty impressive stuff to get the victory in this early start in the US capital. Well, yeah, they played 40 minutes. Oh, there we go. Sorry about that. Yeah, they played 40 minutes with 10 forwards. I mean, that’s that’s pretty impressive. I mean, as the game went on, you could kind of see them kind of get a little tired and, you know, they were playing a lot. They’re playing a lot more than normal. I mean, you’re going down two forwards. You’re pretty much playing with three lines. So, I mean, it was a great effort. I mean, they did try their best to come back. The Capitals did, but the Canucks held strong. Made it close at the end. There were a few anxious moments. Alex Ovetkin in the shooting gallery, but uh EP4 saying none of that. I can throw myself in front of a bunch of those pucks. And how about that? It was EP40 that got the scoring started in this hockey game. His first of the year, less than a minute in and maybe that was an indication of what was to come that it was going to be everybody pulling on the rope in this one for the Vancouver Conucks. That’s what they needed. Uh early starts, those can be tricky for the Conucks. Three games in less than four days. Uh considering the travel as well and time zone, all it all Washington was on a four-game win streak coming in. They were four- one. I think they had given up five uh goals or three goals at five on five and the Conucks had three five on five goals of their own before this game was 25 minutes old. So, uh Canucks said we don’t care about all the storylines coming in. That’s why you play the games. That’s why you line up and good on the Conucks built themselves a four nothing lead and they needed uh each and every one of those goals. Ultimately, they hold on for the 4-3 victory. Rinquai brought to you in part by uh Bet 365. We’ll have our line of the night a little bit later on here on the program. We also always encourage you to hit us up with the super chats. We want you to be a big part of what we’re doing here in this live stream after each and every Vancouver Conucks game. So, hit us up with the super chat. Our charity partner again this season, the BC Mental Health Foundation, changing the face of mental health and addiction by supporting breakthroughs in care, public understanding, research, and knowledge exchange. And we’ve got a couple of super chats right off the top. Uh this one from Justice. Uh says, uh super chat for charity, but also want to rant. What was that drop pass? Yeah, Ver Kane. Uh what might have been, but they get away with it also. Hope Heedle’s okay. And Le as well. I’ve seen enough giveaways to give away Kane to anybody else. I’ll pay a team to take him. Uh again, I I I want to give the CS all credit, but I I just I know and I see it in the chat here on and saw it on social as well. Uh everybody is talking about the Tom Wilson hit on Filipedle. So, let’s sort of double back there and begin our discussion because this was always the concern right with Philip Pedle was is he just one hit away? And we don’t know. He left the game, didn’t return. Uh we’ll see if we get any update from Adam Foot postgame here, but the Conucks decided to go into the season with Elas Patterson and Philip Heedle as their top two centers. And people said that’s fine if and it’s a massive if in caps and bold and underline everything else as we watch the replay there. Uh if Philip Heedle can stay healthy and through five games he had been healthy, he’d been productive in this one. Tyson like the Tyler Meyers goal doesn’t happen without Philip Heedle using his speed putting on the afterburners to get in behind the defense and then chaos ensued and of course it’s the chaos chaos giraffe getting his hundth NHL goal perfectly fitting there. Uh but as we showed you a moment ago the hit um I’ll give you my thoughts and then I’m curious to get yours as well. uh penalty on the play was called and then they reviewed it and then ultimately there was no penalty and so in the eyes of the officials it was a good clean hockey hit there. There was no headhunting. I want to be perfectly clear there. This wasn’t targeting the head for a guy that’s had all sorts of head injuries. Uh and of course that was part of the story line going into Chicago the other night was it was the rematch against Jason Dickinson and the Blackhawks and really nothing came of all of that. Look, this is Tom Wilson. He plays the game differently than just about anybody else in the National Hockey League. There is an onus to be aware when Wilson is on the ice. All of that said, Philipel dishes the puck. Maybe he’s caught puck watching, but it’s late. Like, there is clearly a beat there where Wilson could have avoided contact, but that’s not Tom Wilson. That’s what Tom Wilson does. That’s how he plays the game. It’s a hard hit. It’s a body check. My issue is more that it’s late. Tom Wilson can’t worry too much about Philip Heedle and his concussion histories. If Heedle’s in the game, then he’s an opponent and Tom Wilson’s a heat-seeking miss. So, we know that. But and and the fact that a two-minute penalty isn’t going to save Heedle in that moment. Wilson makes his decision and absolutely drills him. But there was no head contact. It was shoulder to the midsection essentially. And unfortunately, Philip Heedle takes the worst of it. Was down. Uh people have wondered about the Canucks and team toughness. Guy like Lenus Carlson, he’s not going to square up and fight Tom Wilson, but good on him. He goes after and chases Tom Wilson. Others got involved there. Uh and so now we all play the waiting game. But unfortunate, I think at the end of the day, and again, whether it’s a two-minute penalty or not, that wasn’t going to save Philip Heedle in that moment. And Philip Heedle takes that blow that nobody wanted to see him take. And it happens just six games into this season. Yeah. I mean, it’s unfortunate and I agree with you. You know, it wasn’t a dirty hit by any means, but you see Tom Wilson coming and automatically. You’re probably going to think that due to his track record, but yeah, like you said, it was a hit right to the upper chest area. And you know, if Tom Wilson hits any other player, it’s probably not the end result ending in a concussion, but with how many he’s had, and I don’t know if it’s a concussion. No one’s said anything yet, but one can assume, but the whiplash that he gets from that hit, that’s I mean, you pretty much could tell right away. He’s on his knees. He had to get help off the bench. He was woozy coming down the tunnel. So, it’s unfortunate. I agree with you. It was definitely late and I thought it would at least be a two-minute interference penalty, but he didn’t deserve to get kicked out of the game for that. And you’re right, I did like what Carlson did, like going after Wilson. I mean, that’s an intimidating guy to go after, right? Um, and I don’t know if this was retribution later, but uh, Mancini dropped the gloves at Du. It wasn’t Wilson, and I don’t necessarily blame Mancini for not wanting to go after Tom Wilson either, but Duhane’s a tough cat, too. Yep. Uh, and I think that was more a question. And it was 4 nothing at that point and Du Haymon kind of had enough and was trying to spark his team and that’s what he does and absolutely props to Victor Mancini. Uh we know he’s a big dude. We know that he’s mobile and and we’ve seen some of the offensive exploits. Haven’t seen him without the gloves. And I look I don’t think he’s going to be out there looking for fights regularly, but if trouble comes at him, great to see that he can handle his own uh in those circumstances. And so there you go. Uh, I don’t know if you had Victor Mancini in the pool for first fight of the season for the Vancouver Conucks, but that is the first official fighting major for this hockey club. Let’s roll it back to the first minute of play. Um, people have been wondering, you know, Elias Patterson has had pucks get to the goal line. Parts of the puck have got across the goal line the other night in Dallas and he couldn’t force that one in. Had some close calls, knifed between the defenders in overtime in Chicago. There have been some signs of life here from Elias Patterson, but there really hasn’t been a bottom line takeaway. And when you’re getting paid what he’s paid, and when you look at what this team has offensively, they need Elias Patterson. And so for him to get his first of the year, to get his first of the year a minute into this hockey game, set the tone. The Conucks coming off good wins in Dallas and Chicago. This was exactly the start that they were looking for and really the start from the guy that they were looking for. Mhm. I mean the Adam foot’s been talking about it like we just want to get off to better starts. I mean what was it two games in a row now on this road trip that they’ve got out to four straight they’d given up two nothing leads. So that’s playing with fire big time of course. Yeah. And I mean Petey has been sniffing around it. And you mentioned this you know before while we were watching the game. You know it looks he looks good sometimes but you know you kind of expect him to make those plays. you kind like those block shots or those, you know, that’s the baseline for a number one center and a guy that’s supposed to be one of the leaders on this team, of course. And now, you know, it was positive to see those signs like, okay, he’s getting close. He’s getting close. And now that he got right off the hop, scored in what, the first minute of the game? Y um yeah, it’s a great sign that hopefully it is about to come. Hopefully he could turn that around. But uh but yeah, we’ll see more performances like that could definitely spark it. So Alias Patterson opens the scoring. Connor Garland uh makes the play. And of course Conor Garland makes the play. That’s all Connor Garland is doing. What a start to the season for this guy. And we’ll get to the three stars and he’s going to feature prominently there. Um just the work rate, the effort level, the hustle, the compete, the battle, and then the bottom line as well uh for one of the connect’s smallest players. And on that play basically picks the pocket of Alexi Protest who might be the biggest there’s some other for Matt Rempy and some other guys but I mean Alexi Pro is running 66 250. Conor Garland is not and Garland he doesn’t care. Uh he just wants the puck and he goes and he gets it. Nice work by Jake De Brusk uh to keep the play alive along the side boards. Proous kind of mishandles it and that’s all Garland needed was to get it to Julius Patterson. And then I I loved uh loved the replay. Prous knows that he screwed up. The puck winds up in his net and then he like puts his stick on his helmet basically. And part of me was thinking like if there was the thought bubble. It was like I just lost a battle to a guy that’s like a foot shorter than I am. How did that happen? And Alexi Proas is off to a nice start. The Capitals were off to a great start, but not on this day. Uh the Vancouver Conucks 3 and0 on the road trip. They’re now 4-2 on the season. and and you think of where this team was when it left town after the back-to-back losses to Edmonton and St. Louis. There was some real questions around this hockey club in the direction it was headed. And uh it’s funny what uh three straight wins can do. And all of a sudden, the Conucks have sort of rided the ship now. And honestly, they can only play them one at a time, but you can’t sweep a five-game road trip without the first three. Hey, you’re more than halfway there. Pittsburgh and Nashville still to come. So, one- nothing Canucks. good start. It’s what they were looking for. Uh and then we talked a little bit about uh the scramble goal. Tyler Myers with his first of the season. Uh unassisted officially, although Aander Kane was in the mix there. Lennus Carlson was hunting around too. Heedle was the first guy that took the puck. Uh and this was a really interesting sequence because Myers scored. It goes on the board. It’s two nothing. And then the Capitals call their timeout so that they can take additional time to decide whether they want to challenge the play. Sure enough, they do. And the referees rule, nope, there was no goalender interference there. So, the Canucks dodged a bullet in Chicago the other night with the goalie interference call here, another one. But what they didn’t do against the Blackhawks, they capitalized. They pounced. Pun intended, by the way, when I say they capitalized. Uh, but Kefir Sherwood right-handed shot. No Brock Besser, no Jonathan Leer Mackey. And there’s Kefir Sherwood going hard to the net. Nice pass from Connor Garland. And Sherwood with his fourth of the season already six games in. This guy had 19 last year and already well fifth of the way there. Uh at the six, you know, six game mark. So two goals, Meyers and Sherwood less than a minute apart, although it was about 10 minutes apart in real time with the the delay and the challenge and the timeout and everything else. But uh again, Kefir Sherwood was going in this hockey game and that was a huge goal. Uh you know, to make the Capitals pay and to extend the lead late in that first period. Three goals. It’s great. I mean, Kefir Sherwood, you can’t say enough about him, but you could tell it’s his contract here. He’s definitely going I like I know how herf likes to tweet about it. Kfir Sherwood with a dollar sign. Yeah. As the S. Um contract season. Yeah, of course. He’s trying to get that big bucks. But yeah, it with how poor they’ve been in the first period, it was nice to see them capitalize like that. And on the I didn’t see where they had any chance of getting that goalender interference. Like I don’t know like I didn’t see Kane really necessarily get involved too much at the net front either. Neither Lenus Carlson. So I didn’t really understand that. I think there was one moment there where for a brief flash, Lingren had the puck covered and Kuck may have jabbed at him. That was the only thing I saw when I’ve watched the replay a few times. Uh because ultimately there’s no contact when the overhead shot there was no Kucks in the blue paint. Um puck was bouncing around and you know a lot of times refs will blow it dead because they lose sight of it. But uh I think credit to the officials there allowed the play to continue. Kucks certainly like that part of it and it was Tyler Myers pulling the trigger. uh to make it a two nothing game and then Sherwood as we mentioned uh 41 seconds after that. So the Canucks go to the locker room up three zip. Uh and yeah, I mean all these first periods where they’ve kind of scuffled and you know struggled to find their footing here. Uh they were ready for the 12:30 local time start. I know people back home lamenting 9:30 puck drop. Uh what are you doing? Uh this is one of four games this season for the Vancouver Conucks that will start before 2:00 local time. I think they’re all road games. In fact, I know they’re all road games. Uh in Tampa, in San Jose on Black Friday, and then uh the Hughes Brothers Battle in New Jersey is another one of these. 9:30 starts Pacific time. Uh another super chat I want to get to this one from Free Pey and it says, “Lindros vibes on that hit. Fingers crossed for 72.” And of course that is Philip Heedle Justice with a second super chat of the day and we appreciate your contributions to the BC Mental Health Foundation. Uh, I’m glad we’re winning, but I’m a little worried given how last season went. We were great on the road and then crumbled. And that is true. Kevin Lankin winning his first 10 road games as a member of the Vancouver Conucks last year. Here they lost their opener in Edmonton. Uh, now 3-1 away from home. Well, we can’t worry about big picture full season. You play them as they come. And, uh, this was always going to be a difficult road trip just with the travel, the time zones, compressed schedule, uh, everything else. But, uh, when you’re getting the goalending that the Vancouver Conucks are, whether it’s Demco, whether it’s Lankinan, uh, that’s going to allow those guys to spell each other off. So, you’re not going to lean on one guy and, uh, you know, they’ll have a decision to make in Pittsburgh. But, I would think the goalies will split these last two games, whether they come back with Demco and then give Lanken in the game in Nashville or they go to Na, maybe they go to Lanin on Tuesday in Pittsburgh and finish up with Demco, whatever the case. Then they’ve got those backto-backs against Montreal and Edmonton when they come off the road. And again, you would think that you would split those even if both games are at Rogers Arena, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves because that’s the end of the road trip and what happens next weekend when they get back home. Joe Lee in the chat says they’ve also played three games in less than 72 hours. I’m just happy they survived this one. Um, and yeah, uh, compressed schedule. Just get used to hearing that an awful lot. Adam Foot has mentioned that a bunch and, uh, it’s just in Olympic year. It’s a case for everybody, including the Vancouver Conucks, and here they’re getting tested early uh in their schedule. All right, I want to get to the three stars. We haven’t gone through the full uh game summary, but before we get too deep into the program here, want to get to the three stars. Teddy Bluger, by the way, uh getting his first of the year, and that one turns out to be the gamewinner. Uh four and a half minutes into the third peri in the second period rather, built that four nothing lead for the Vancouver Conucks. Three Stars brought to you by Greta Bar. Great place to catch all the games. It’s walking distance from the rink in the stadium. Or if you’re looking for a place to watch the games on TVs, Greta’s got a lot of them. They got you covered with big screens for all the action. Plus, the street food menu we tell you about all the time. They’ve got weekly drink specials when the Canucks are playing. They’ve got game day specials as well. All those arcade games, too. We had fun at the first watch party of the season last weekend, and we’ll do a few more of those before the year is through. If you haven’t checked it out already, do so. Gretavar, the place to be. 50 West Cordova. Greta Bar. Let the games begin. All right, the three stars in the building as selected by Washington media, Tyler Myers, Connor Garland, and Jacob Chran. Uh we’re going a little home cooking here on the program. It’s a Canox postgame live stream. So, uh yes, Jacob Chan and John Carlson ended up making it a one-goal game. There were some Capitals to consider, but uh we’re going three Canucks uh with our three stars in this hockey game. And there you go. Connor Garland, two more assists, plays 22 minutes and 10 seconds, was buzzing, had that shift in the third period where he hunted down a loose puck and was able to clear the zone onto the stick of Jake De Brascu. Raced away on the left wing and had a pretty good scoring chance. Uh Garland sets up Patterson. He also gets the assists on the Sherwood goal. So, two primary helpers for Connor Garland who leads this team now. He’s got six points on the season and he truly is the heartbeat and the engine of this hockey club. and has been on this road trip. Yeah, I mean he’s undoubtedly the MVP so far this season. Six game MVP. I like it. Give it to him now. Um I mean Garland’s been great and I really like the chemistry that you put him with Petey and I mean they seem to click when it was De Brusk and Person in or on the wing of Person like it just didn’t it didn’t look good. something was missing. And I think, you know, you need someone who’s good on the puck retrieval, good against the walls, and I mean, De Brusk and Besser are all right, but they’re no Garland. Garland could definitely do that. And he’s a good facilitator of the puck to to get it to Patterson, and we saw it on the first goal. Pety just picked his spot on the uh on the far side there. Um and got the first goal. So, I I mean, there’s not much more you can say about Connor Garland to start the year. You may have to say more about Connor Garland. That’s the problem. You can say what’s left to say. Well, he just keeps performing and he’s just so fun to watch right now. He is dialed in. Uh and uh yeah, I mean, we’ll see. Again, we’ll try to get some updates here. We don’t know about Brock Basser, personal reasons. Uh we don’t know if he’s with the team, if he’s left the club and come home or gone elsewhere. So, don’t even want to speculate at this point, but they do play again on Tuesday. We’ll have to see. And then Heedel and and Leer Mackey as well. Uh, so they’re going to need their top end guys to continue to perform this way. And speaking of top end guys, uh, how about Tyler Myers, the goal, first of the year. Terrific. Gets an assist as well on the Teddy Bluger goal. If you watch that replay, like Evander Kane gets the primary assist with a nifty little soccer move. Uh, kicks the puck to Bluger. But that play stays alive because Tyler Myers with his reach and his length, the anticipation along the right boards beats his man to the puck and keeps it in the Washington zone. And then from there, Kane’s able to get it to Bluger and Teddy Bluger pulls the trigger. So, uh, not all second assists are created equally. And that was a really fine play by Tyler Myers, who, oh, by the way, played 25 minutes in this hockey game for the Vancouver Conucks. And you look at the special teams. Um, I mean, 25 minutes for Tyler Myers. 25 minutes and 50 seconds, in fact. Almost 26 minutes for Tyler Myers. More than five of that shorthanded. uh you know those are heavy minutes and even at his advanced age. I know uh he’s going to have his detractors and I’m not here to convince you but there is still value in Tyler Myers at this stage of his career when he plays the way that he did here. Uh and again the first contract I got the he was never going to live up to the big money contract but at 3 million bucks come on like they’re getting value out of a 35-year-old Tyler Myers. Of course. And I mean, there’s not many games the whole season where you’re going to be able to say a player played more than Quinn Hughes. And that’s what Tyler Myers did by 50 seconds. That’s that’s pretty impressive. But also, you know, his he’s great defensively, but I just want to point out his goal. Like he he if he didn’t wait and just fired it, he might have not scored. Like he took he took the second to kind of go around the defender and then and then rip it past uh Lingren there. So, I mean, a little patience there from Tyler Myers. if we get more offense. Um, he might not be I mean he’s what how old is he? 35 36 like he’s be 36 in February. Yeah. Like he’s three million bucks. You’re right. Like that’s that’s extreme value for for a top four defenseman. Uh and there’s a third star and really this could have been a firstar performance. Kefir Sherwood, we talked about him. Four goals on the season. Now he’s out there in the power play because Noess, no Leer Macki, you’re looking for a right-handed shot. Um, and so there he goes to the back post and it worked out perfectly for him. Uh, but this was the number and we’ll get to our stat that stands out a little bit later on. Kefir Sherwood played 23 minutes and 16 seconds. 2316. Career high for Kefir Sherwood today. Not by one minute, not by two minutes, by three minutes. He had never played anywhere close to this amount of ice time in a regular season game. Up to the challenge raised his level of performance. The penalty kill, the power play, all the situations. Uh getting his hits in as well cuz that’s what he does. So, uh absolutely a salute to Kefir Sherwood. Probably could have bumped him higher in the Stars, but there were other deserving candidates. So, uh there you go. Clean sweep for the Vancouver Cucks here on the rink wide three stars. Connor Garland, Tyler Myers for Sherwood, a presentation of Gretabar YVR. Uh, all right, let’s get to the Teddy Bluger goal because it made it four nothing and at that point it looked like, you know, they’re going to run away and hide from the Capitals. Uh I think there were a lot of people that are stunned uh just given the start that the Caps had and how stingy the Capitals had been and Charlie Lingren with a shut out in his only other start so far this season and for the Canucks to pump four past him. Um pretty impressive stuff all things considered and the way that they’re spreading their offense and getting guys involved. You know to get Elias Peterson his first of the season that’s important. Teddy Bluger just came back the other day. You don’t look for a ton of offense but you’ll take it. And really of the regulars now, I think it’s Evander Kane and Drew O’ Conor that are the only forwards in the top nine that haven’t scored a goal. So you hope that that comes for those guys as well. But for Teddy Bluger misses the first three games with an injury. Sometimes it’s tough to step back in and get the speed of the game. And so I think it’s important again, I’m not looking at Teddy Bluger to score a bunch for the Vancouver Conucks, but when the puck’s on his stick in a shooting position, hey, bullet trigger makes the most of it. So good on him. and it turns out to be the winner. Yeah, I mean that’s not a part of his game really. Offense you you have him in the lineup penalty kill faceoffs and his defensively sound game. But I mean today he lo it’s nice but that he scored but he also logged more ice time than Petey. He’s the third only by Say that again. Yeah, he had more ice time than Elias Patterson today by nearly 30 seconds. 1842 according to Natural Statrick. So, they were using them often and I get it. You know, it’s kind of a blowout to start and you want to protect the lead as best you can. So, obviously Bluger’s going to be out there a little bit more, but it is something to note that uh yeah, you know, and maybe he, you know, he’s been off for or he missed the first four games. So, um maybe had a little bit more fresh legs than the rest of the guys who have played three games in 72 hours. Wow. That uh that is a little surprising. And again, the Conucks go into this defensive posture and no Heedle. So, uh, it’s not a surprise that Bluger’s numbers are up, but to the point that he played more than Elias Patterson, uh, the eagle eye over there picking up that stat, that’s a good one. Which leads us to our stat that stands out, and that certainly could have been a stat that stands out. But the stat that stands out here on Rink is delivered by Uber Eats. And Uber Eats is enabling fans to maximize their fandom all season long with exclusive game day deals in the app. Every time the Conucks are playing at home, you can get a buy 1 get one six-piece chicken McNuggets from McDonald’s in Vancouver only on Uber Eats. And from game day eats to paper plates and napkins if you’re the one hosting to all the ingredients you need to make your favorite game day dip before, during, or after the game. Uber Eatats is assisting every fan’s hockey experience all season long. # crave the stats. And here is our staff that stands out, including Teddy Bluger and Elas Patterson. Vancouver’s had 10 different goal scorers through the first three games of this road trip. And I do think that that’s the blueprint for success for this hockey club. That yes, Brock Bryer got 40 a couple years ago and Leas Pederson got close, but they don’t have a 50- goal candidate and I’m not sure that they’ve got a 40 goal guy uh in the offing this season. It is going to have to be scoring by committee and so it’s important that Patterson opened his account and got going. It’s important that they’re getting some early season contributions from guys like Kefir Sherwood. Um, you know, Jake De Bruss scored the other night in Chicago. They’re going to need a bunch more from Jake De Brusk, but that’s pretty impressive. 10 different goal scorers through the first three games of this road trip and obviously that’s been part of the formula that’s led to to three straight victories. Yeah, the depth scoring has been has been huge and you need that to succeed and they obviously have gotten that over the last three games of the road trip. Um yeah, just the the Abby line they Max Sassin um they didn’t contribute tonight to the score sheet, but um just you know those guys are were Abbottzford last year like you’re getting AHL guys to contribute at the NHL level now which I mean that’s what you need. You need to grow from within and the fact that they’re getting like 10 goal scorers in three games that’s pretty good for the forward group. Uh Jax in the chat says EEP 40 with a goal sacrificing his body in the final minute. His best game in quite a while and again it’s been building. He hasn’t been dominant. Not in the three stars here. Uh so he’s contributing again. You hope that all of this is boosting his confidence. I think we’re starting to see some of that. The play that he made in the third period between his legs on Rasma Sandin and got the backhander away there. Talked about the chance in overtime the other night. We’re starting to see some of the creativity from Alias Patterson and and yeah, a bottom line for those that are demanding that again at 11.6 million bucks. Need more. Still need more, but there have been some steps in the right direction here on the road trip. Super chat from Quinn’s Edges again supporting the BC Mental Health Foundation. This one says, “My pronouns are she/urwood. Um, it looks better in print than I think it does as I try to explain it, but uh we thank you for the contribution. An amazing game for I think for Sherwood but also for the Vancouver Conucks. Free Pey coming back and saying suddenly sending Coots back seems problematic. Uh look Braden Coots wasn’t ready for the NHL. Mhm. So I think these are two separate conversations. One is what do you do now down the middle if heedel is out for any length of time? Au ratu the healthy scratch the last couple games. So he would automatically plug back in, but it would leave you with a center ice position of Patterson and then Ratu, Assassin, and Bluger. Who’s your 2C out of that group? So yeah, it gets pretty thin. Is this going to spur trade talk again? The problem there is it’s six games into the season, like there aren’t many trades and you’d be dealing from such a position of weakness. They were looking to help their center position all summer. Now the league watches and say, “Ah, see, we thought this might happen with Filipedal. How much do you want to pay for player X?” And and that’s the issue for the Vancouver Conucks. You get uh in a problem because nobody’s here to help you around the National Hockey League. If you want to talk trade, uh I think the rate suddenly goes up for centers and we know already that it’s been prohibitive when it comes to the cost of acquisition. So, uh down on the farm, are we all ready for Nil Zman back in the National Hockey League? He’s got three assists in four games. Ian Abby. Um the one name that I wonder when you see the Canucks look I don’t know that they were roughed up. That’s Tom Wilson doing what Tom Wilson does. Otherwise, I didn’t think they got run out of the rink necessarily, but Joe Leate is in the system. He has a goal and two assists. He got in four games in Abbottzford this year. He’s already three points in four games. Gotten a couple scraps in the preseason. Is it too soon for it to be Joe Le time? I I I don’t know where you go. Um callups are crafts off. It gets thin when Max Assassin’s already been recalled. It gets thin in a real hurry. So again, don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves here without knowing or seeing any kind of update postgame. Uh Adam Foot saying he doesn’t believe Besser will be gone long. So that part is uh that’s good. Bluger’s being evaluated as well according to Dan Murphy seems like he was shaken up late in the game. That’s the last thing that go Vancouver Conucks uh Bluger didn’t play the final 614. Um really according to posts online here so and he still logged more time on ice than Patterson. Wow. Yeah. Um so incredible. Anyhow, uh, through it all and sometimes adversity comes in waves and Canucks were able to handle it here, uh, in large part because of the guy in all the gear at the very back, the last line of defense. And I know he gives up three goals, but Thatcher Demco just looked confident. You can feel the confidence that the players draw from him. Kevin Lanin was really good the other night in Chicago, but Thatcher Demco has improved to three and one on the season and has given up five five on five goals in his four starts. Mhm. Like you hear those kinds of numbers and you think like this is really quickly getting back to oldtimeco territory and that is some of the best news on a day where there’s some bad news for the Vancouver Conucks on the injury front. That is maybe the best possible news is that this guy’s just looking like a brick wall. and you think of some of the saves that he made through the talking game and even on the the Ryan Leonard goal like a spectacular save and unfortunately the puck came right back to Leonard but uh Connor Mcichel had a bunch of chances hit the post in the second period but had two opportunities uh early in the third and and Demco was there to make stops and you know again I just think his confidence is going to grow as he continues to perform at this level and Capitals they think they’ve got two good goalenders but they went with their backup. The Conucks go with their main man. Vancouver wants to believe that that’s going to be an edge. And the end of the day, uh, the Conucks give up three goals and the Capitals gave up four. Vancouver Skates out of there with a victory and That Thatcher Demco definitely played a role in it. Yeah, I mean, he had Yeah, that Ryan Leonard goal that was just unfortunate. He made He goes across to the other post, makes the first save, and then he lifts his leg up and then the puck just goes right under. Yeah, obviously you’re anticipating Ren Riley Ryan Leonard is going to go high there and you know he beats him down low, but I mean Demco was still really really good. Um he saved uh 1.06 goals save above expected in this game which now takes him to third in the entire NHL uh in goal save above expected which is I believe uh 6.3. Not bad. No. And and again when he’s on you know that he’s capable of that but kind of like Heedle it was every game is going to be a hurdle of itself and can he stay healthy and be available for the next one. So far so good. Knock on wood for the Demco there but uh for Philip Heedle again we play the waiting game here. Uh, I just want to double back to the Abbottzford guys because we can call them the Abbottzford guys, but if other regulars peel away, these guys look like Vancouver Conucks now. And I know it’s only six games and not even for Max Assassin, but the confidence with which they’re playing, the situations that they’re finding themselves in um the Canucks are going to need them and they’re absolutely pulling their weight and contributing here. They don’t find the score sheet. Archie Baines driving hard to the net there at 4 nothing. He got called uh for goender interference, but I love the fact that uh no hesitation in his game there taking the puck hard to the net. Lenus Carlson, we talked about him digging around on the Tyler Meyers goal. Max Sassin using his speed effectively yet again here uh for the hockey club. So, I think this was another really I mean it was a good team win. You can’t look at anybody and say that they didn’t really uh pull their weight for the hockey club in the outcome here, but it’s going to be interesting to see they’re continuing to play the way they are, earning the trust of the coaching staff and now all of a sudden where maybe they started the road trip as fourth liners and assassin didn’t even start the road trip um with them. Oh yeah, he got into the game at Dallas. where he started. Uh all of a sudden like they’re going to be if they stay together uh the third line for the Vancouver Canucks and they’re going to need these guys. Now they did get caught out on the chicken goal. They were that line was out for a minute and 15 seconds. So, you know, it’s not perfect and it’s not going to be perfect, but even with a blunder there, I still thought there was more good uh from the Abbottzford guys and we’ll see if there are more. There may be new Abbottzford guys replacing the That’s why we we may have to stop calling these guys the Abbottzford guys because there may be a new wave of Abbottzford guys before too long here. Yeah. Now these are Vancouver guys. Um no but if you if you look at how it the game went on um after Heedle and Laramaki were were out. First line stayed intact and then the Abby line stayed intact too for the most part. You know, sometimes you saw our Connor and Carlson kind of switching out, but I mean, it I think that says something that, hey, like these guys clearly have chemistry. They’re probably our second best line right now. We got to continue to roll them out. Um, and I Yeah, I totally wouldn’t be surprised if their minutes increase. Obviously, they did tonight uh with with the two injuries. But I mean, if you’re going to have cuz if Laramaki and Heedel are both out, one of the Abbottzford guys that come comes up is in the lineup as long as Besser still out. Yep. With Ratu, right? So, you’re going to want to shelter shelter that guy’s minutes. And I mean, it’ll be interesting to see, but I mean, with the way they’re playing, the chemistry they have, uh you can’t split them up. Uh Lena Carlson played 13 minutes and 19 seconds, so that’s a bump. That fourth line was getting 8 n minutes earlier, but again, attrition forces them. So Carlson plays 1319. Had a couple of shots on goal. Sassin was basically in that same neighborhood 1315. Won three of his five faceoffs, so he didn’t take a lot, but he held his own. Uh Arshep was the low icime guy for that trio at 10 minutes and 13 seconds, but did spend a couple of minutes in the penalty box. Canucks beat the Capitals by a score of four to three. Have you looked at Alex Ovuchetkin’s final stat line for this hockey game? I have not. I have not. No. All right. Uh we talked about uh his attempts in the third there where uh EP 40 threw himself in in front of not one two three Alex Ovuchkin one-time blast. It was interesting that the Capitals got the Carlson goal with the goalender out. Obie wasn’t even on the ice. And I think that that was Spencer Carbury trying to uh save his big gun for the final minute if they weren’t able to score the one that they did. Then u Obie did get out once it was four to three, but unable to pull the trigger. But I I really didn’t hear Alex Ovuchetkin’s name a ton in this hockey game. The final he played 21 minutes and three seconds. Didn’t have a shot on goal. Huh. had eight attempts. Wow. But not a single shot for OV. So he’s stuck on 898. History was not made against the Vancouver Conucks in his 1497th National Hockey League game. So he’s closing in 900 goals in 1500 games could come the same night here. I mean, that’s a possibility that he’s close to both of those. Uh it just blows my mind though, and I had to go and dig this up prior to the game. 1497 career regular season games, 29 of them against the Vancouver Conucks. The East West imbalance. He’s played through a career where the Eastern teams only face the Western teams once a season uh for a little while there. So, uh yeah, a guy that’s closing in on 1500 games and only 29 of them have come against a West Coast opponent. So, we just haven’t seen much of Alex Ovuchkin out here in Vancouver. the Conucks as a team haven’t had to face him, which probably not a bad thing when you think of where he is in the pantheon of goal scorers right up at the top there. Um but yeah, he was shooting but uh not a single shot on goal. How about Jacob Jickan? 15 shot attempts in this hockey game. Three on goal, six were blocked, and six missed the target. So there was a guy that was absolutely shooting the puck all night long. Washington outshoots Vancouver 3023. Both teams go one for four with the man advantage. So the special teams, they were a push and uh in the end the Canucks outscore the Capitals 4 to3 on the afternoon. So Vancouver up to 4 and2 on the season. Uh the road record sitting at three and one. Got another super chat. This one comes from Simomoto. Don’t trade for anybody. Not good enough or close enough to leverage any of the future. Just battle all season with what you got and see where you end up. And and I understand that line of thinking. Uh that said, and I go back two seasons ago and a little different, but late November, this team was crushing it and management rewarded the group for the job it had done to get to that point. Brought in Zidorov, later on went out and got Elias Lint home and that was to bolster a team that had shown that it was competitive and it meant business. Now again, it’s six games in, it’s early, there aren’t a whole lot of trades. we talked about uh you would have to initiate and I think you would have to pay a premium at this point to go and get a player and and pay at a premium on top of expensive prices. I’m not sure that that is in the best interests of the bank. We don’t know about Besser other than Adam Foot saying it doesn’t look like it’s going to be long. Really don’t know about Heedel at this point or Leer Mackey. So I sort of fall in that same boat. You’ve got Atu Ratu. Um not that the heavy lifting on this road trip is done at all. You got Pittsburgh coming up. You may have heard a couple of their players, Crosby and Malcolin, uh both off pretty decent starts as well and then into Nashville, but you’ve got three wins in three games. You don’t want to ever flush a game. But if ever there was a time where maybe you felt like you were playing with a little bit of house money on this road trip at the very least, I think you might just move forward with the guys that you got and plug Ratu in there. Uh take your chances in Pittsburgh, see what happens. But even if they drop the two games left on the trip, you’re in regulation, don’t come out with any more points, they’ve already got six in the bag. So, I think you call this road trip a success and where you go from here, uh, we’ll see. But, uh, I don’t know about you, I I kind of agree with that idea that I wouldn’t be out there trading the ranch right now. Um, just given the expectations for this team big picture for this season. Yeah, I wouldn’t yet. It’s It’s too soon. It’s too soon. I mean this lineup right now that you have minus Heedle obviously and now Besser I mean they’re still 3 and 0 on the road trip. So you got to don’t act too quickly and go out and overpay for for something that you didn’t want to overpay for in the summer. you know, that just doesn’t make sense if you didn’t want to pay that price now, right? It’s only going to be more expensive because heeded out or well, we don’t know that, but because HeedLed, you know, got that hit. But um I mean, starting on the road trip, how many points did you say would have been a success? Cuz my thoughts was six. And so I’m quite happy for them. Yeah. Like that’s that should be a happy goal for for them. But I think my standards were just again when they started this trip like I really didn’t like the St. Louis game and the Edmonton game was on Demco like to keep them in it. Um remember those two games like they barely touched the puck. I had some real concerns. And so I think I would have at that point just said hey if they can you know tread water come out of the road trip with five points I I think that would have been in my mind fairly successful but here they are with six now. So good on them. uh you know this was probably their most complete effort and in saying that the third period score effects and they sat back and they’re down guys and it was fairly predictable the way it so was it a full 60 minutes? No, not really. But the 40 minutes to start the game were the kind of 40 minutes that they’ve been looking for to get themselves into games and build a lead and all that. So lots to like. I’m not here to critique a win against a good Washington team. uh when you lose the players the way that they did, you know, the underlying numbers. This is funny. Like, and again, this is where score effects come into play. Like, did the Capitals really have a 2 to1 scoring chance edge in this hockey game? According to Natural Statrick, the final five on five scoring chances are 3117 and beyond that, they were 23 to five over the final 40 minutes. Like, I I I watched the game here in studio with you. I I didn’t feel it was that one-sided like Washington with an edge. Sure. Score score effects and them pushing. Yeah. But I don’t know. Didn’t feel like a 3117 um discrepancy in these scoring chances, but uh that’s what the numbers say. Uh but the Canucks did outscore the Capitals uh 3 to one at five on five. So again, Conucks five on five play uh because Dallas with a couple of power play goals. Chicago had a power play goal. Five on five. Canucks have been pretty damn impressive on this road trip. trip and we’ll see if they can carry that on into Pittsburgh on uh Tuesday afternoon. And of course, we’ll be back with another edition of Rink Wider will be back with me. But it’s great to have Tyson in for the first of a bunch this season. So uh you’re want to know in here. Perfect. Yeah, you got the perfect record. That and a thousand. There you go. Uh you know, it’s funny. We kind of been scouring uh ice times for the Vancouver Conucks in this hockey game. We talked about Victor Mancini standing up for his teammates, doing his thing. He only played seven minutes. which surprises me a little bit. But yeah, when you saw what happened in Chicago the other night, they they essentially eliminated the third pair and didn’t play DPD and Mancini together and really went with four defensive pairs, which is a unique formation, but you had Hughes and Heronic. You had Marcus Patterson and Tyler Myers. Then you had a fair bit of Hughes and Mancini and Heronic with DPD and they tried to shelter the young guys again out on the road. Um, and and it makes some sense and so 5 minutes in the penalty box that obviously would have eaten into a couple of shifts for him, but I’m a little surprised to see Mancini’s ice time as low as it is there. DPD, he ended up playing 15 minutes and 26 seconds. So, pretty solid workload uh for the guy that’s number five on the depth chart. And this is another part of this too that you’ve got a winning lineup. you’re going to be forced to make some changes up front, but you got Pio Joseph who’s been activated. He’s on the road trip all these games in a condensed period of time. I thought they might make a change going into this one. I know Pio Joseph understands his role in all of this, but he’s a hockey player. He wants to play, wants to make his season debut. So, I wonder if we see him uh at any point here in these remaining two games. The other one is Forbert’s eligible to be activated now. He was put on IR retroactive uh to them leaving for the road trip, but he’s eligible. So, man, he’s up on a recall. Lots of moving parts here, and we’ll have to sort of see how things shake down for the Vancouver Conucks defensively as they make their way through Pittsburgh and Nashville to wrap up the road trip. Yeah. Uh just this third pairing, Mancini and DPD, they played 24 seconds of five on five ice. So, it’s not a third pairing. They they don’t play together. Um, one thing with you saying that that just popped into my head and if you’re only going to play Mancini not even seven minutes a night now with the injuries, do you go 11 forwards and 7D? Uh, it’s possible you could in a pinch. I mean, I think most coaches are are loathed to do that. I mean, it happens. Sometimes they’re forced into doing it, but uh I think most coaches like the ability to roll four lines. Um, you know, could a defenseman take a couple shifts up front? Victor Mancini as a winger. That’s not a bad shout. Tyler, if people want Tyler Myers to be a netfront presence, um, no, it’s not without some merit. And again, we’ll have to get some more updates here. And and I would think after three games in four days and and travel and all these winds that they probably won’t practice on Monday. And yet, you know, coaches at this time of the year, like they can’t stand the fact that they can’t squeeze practices in. Uh so if they practice, we might get a better idea of, you know, what they’re thinking. Uh may have to wait until morning skate in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. But uh no, we’ll have to wait and see there. Uh my hunch is that you are going to see Pio Joseph and and just to your point about you know if Mancini is only going to get five or six minutes of ice time, you know, is that going to be a regular thing out on the road, can they shelter him and spot him some more shifts at home? Possibly. Um we’ll have to wait and see. But if they were to activate Forbert, then they would have to make a corresponding move. And you just wonder if uh at this point Mancini would find himself back in Abbottzford. And of course, Absort’s got the banner raising. They got the home opener on Friday. Uh lost both games in Laval over the weekend, struggling to score goals, but when you look at their lineup, there isn’t a whole lot there for Manny Mhaltra to work with. So, uh some of that part is understandable, but uh again, lots of moving parts here as the Canucks move forward. And of course, we’ll be all over it at Kucks Army, uh as the news sort of makes itself apparent and some of these roster moves and those types of things. So, make sure you’re checking out the Army website. uh got instant reaction. We’ll have the stanshees. Got uh the stats coming as well. I’ll have a Monday mailbag to start the week. So, lots going on there at Kucks Army. All right, quiet Sunday for the most part after a busy Saturday night around the National Hockey League, but there’s still things going on and of course uh more games to come to open up the week on Monday as well. And I I mentioned that uh before we preview the Canucks next opponent, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Uh, it is time for our Bet 365 line of the night. Where are you looking? So, I’m sitting in Nerf’s chair. He always likes to do a parlay. My original like a 12 game parlay and stuff. Anyways, I only wanted to do one, but uh I mean, Jacob, the producer, he’s in here, so I had to throw him a bone. Uh, we’re taking the Rangers on the money line to beat the Wild. They’re they’re going to finally score at home. I mean, okay. It’s it’s crazy. Three games in setting the NHL record. Uh, they got to score at home. And I mean Minnesota, I believe they barely mustered up 30 shots over their last two games. Over two games. Yeah. Washington and and Philadelphia. And yeah, I think a total of 30 shots through two games, which is weird. Pretty brutal for that high-f flying of an offense. So I think should have 30 himself. Exactly. And then Yeah, I threw Jacob a bone there with the Canadians coming off a tough loss to those Rangers. Um yeah, whatever your bet is, it’s never ordinary at Bet 365. Download the app and get it on the game. Use the code nation to get you started. A reminder, you must be 19 or older. Please play responsibly. There you go. Uh our bet 365 line of the night. Hey, make sure you’re following Rinkwide on all of our socials. Particularly want you to make a point of subscribing to the Rinkwide YouTube channel. Uh you can watch the live stream on YouTube. Uh but of course this year we decided going to branch out a little bit as well and add to what we’re doing uh in that space particularly on that platform. So, we’re going to be posting practice video, game day content, player scrums, you name it. Uh we’ll try to make it your one-stop uh shop for, you know, if you can’t get to it at the end of the day, you can know, hey, I’ll go to the Rinkwide YouTube channel and and find out what was happening when the Canucks are at home. Although, we are planning to get out on the road a little later on in the season as well. So, set the notifications so that you do not miss a thing. All right, this will be interesting. On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins, they were winners last night in San Jose. Beat the Sharks three nothing. Tristan Jarry got the start there. He got the shut out. A lot of times teams will come right back with a guy. Why would you mess with a formula that’s working? But they’ve already done this once this year where a goalie got a shut out and they went to the other guy. Uh, and they’ve alternated their goalenders. And so the way the um batting order essentially is working here, Tuesday looks like it should be an Archer Silas start for the Penguins against the Canucks. And I have to think that the Penguins understand what’s at stake here. Uh the coaches will make the decision. Yeah, Tristan Jarry maybe throwing a bit of a curveball in there, but my hunch is that you’re going to see Arty Silvs get the start against the Vancouver Conucks on Tuesday. You kind of have to, right? It’s just it’s only fair. You know, I understand Tristan Jar’s BC boy. He probably likes to play the Canucks, too, but um you know, former team, first time you get to get the opportunity to play against them. And I think it’s kind of to the benefit of the Canucks because now you got a full Abbeby line of Bane, Sassin, and Carlson who played with Seavs and uh got to see, you know, what his weaknesses were in practice. Just shoot high um from point shots. But yeah, it it should be a good game. Um, I mean, we already saw what Seovs did to another old teammate earlier in the year. He got a shut out on JT Miller and Carson Susi. So, opening night. Yeah. Hopefully that doesn’t happen again. Already had two wins in the NHL all of last season, both against Chicago. He’s got two already this year. Uh, and the Penguins are off to a pretty nice start. Uh, again, the win in San Jose, they’ve won two straight. They’re four and two on the season. And I don’t know. I mean, we at this stage of their careers, we shouldn’t be surprised, but if Genny Malcin and Sydney Crosby lead the Pittsburgh Penguins in offense, uh, both had a goal and an assist last night in the win over the Sharks. Malcolin’s with nine points already. It’s not quite Jack Jack Eel level stuff, but nine points for Malcolin. And Crosby’s got seven. So, both of them off tonight’s starts there. Justin Brazzo, one of the new Penguins this season, leads the team with four goals. and a couple of rookies with strong ties to these parts. 18-year-old Ben Kindle was the 11th overall pick in the draft, son of local soccer stars Steve Kindle and Sarah Maggio. And he’s already scored an NHL goal, so we’ll see if he’s in the lineup. And Harrison Brunick is a former South a former Cam Loops Blazer. Go Blazers. Uh first ever skater born in South Africa play in the National Hockey League. Cool. Olaf Kohl’s was born in South Africa, but he’s a goalie. Uh this is the first ever skater born in South Africa to make it to the National Hockey League. So a couple of youngsters there in the Pittsburgh lineup with ties to British Columbia. We’ll see if both of them are in the lineup when the Canucks come calling on Tuesday and then the road trip wraps up in Nashville and the Predators still kind of scuffling along. Got their lunch fed to them by the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night. So again, it’s the end of a road trip. Um lots of wear and tear on this hockey club. There are no easy games in the National Hockey League and I’m sure the Conucks aren’t even focused on the PRs right now. It’s all about the Penguins. Well, right now might be enjoying a third straight win on the road trip, but by the time they touch down in Pittsburgh later on, they’ll turn their attention to uh the Pittsburgh Penguins and finding a way to go four for four to start this road trip. Uh you got to give them credit. Like this one would have been easy for a lot of reasons to get away from the Canucks and people would have been ah you know the funky start time and the Capitals are playing well and all that kind of stuff and for the Vancouver Conucks to rise up and and have the start that they did and to spread the offense the way that they did. Uh all of it with that Demco standing tall in the nets really impressive team effort for the Vancouver Conucks to come away with a a 4-3 victory. Yeah and like you said it was a tough opponent. I mean, this team won the president. Oh, no, they didn’t. They came second last year, but I mean, they were the biggest story. And obviously, you typically see a team tend to uh take a slight dip, but I mean, they really didn’t this year after I believe they dropped the opening night game, but after that, they just continue to roll. Like you said, four straight wins. And so, it’s big, especially like when the Conucks come into town at 9:30 local start for them. Obviously, you probably get a little adjusted to the time zone on a road trip like this, but um it’s impressive. And then to go down two forwards, I’m not sure if they would have been able to, you know, muster up the offense and get their legs under them and come back in the game had they not got out to a four nothing lead. And I think, you know, we had that stat that stands out, the 10 different goal scorers, and Quinn Hughes is among them. But Quinn had a second assist in this hockey game. a he survived the hockey game when to Tom Tom Wilson was running around and I’m thinking to myself uh oh um like there was a part of me that was like you got this four nothing lead just put Quinn on ice for the night and let the other guys get through it. uh Quinn ends up playing as we talked about Tyler Myers played more than him but I I will say this that and this has sort of been again there have been a lot of other storylines whether it was Braden Cooch whether it was the struggles in the first couple of games uh so much focus on Elias Patterson they’re a foreign two hockey club and Quinn Hughes has been okay he’s been okay but he hasn’t been all world superstar put this team on his back and I say that because I still so strongly believe that he’ll get there sooner rather than later. But you’re the Canucks. You’ve won three in a row on this trip. You’ve kind of writed the ship and now had it set, you know, sailing in the right direction and you got that in your back pocket that you know that he’s going to take over hockey games that it’s going to happen. It really hasn’t yet. But that’s almost credit more to the guys around him that uh not picking up the slack for Quinn Hughes, but pulling their own weight so that he doesn’t have to be Superman for this hockey club. Yeah, it it it’s weird because the last two years you’ve just grown accustomed to see him take games over. Um, but he hasn’t really done that. I mean, he he didn’t register a shot in Edmonton, but I thought that probably was his best game in my eyes. He was good in Chicago. He played 30 minutes and three and a half in overtime. Like, you know, and he looked a little tired. That was the well it was the back end back to last 30 minutes and it’s a tough ask and and you know cattying essentially for Victor Mancini throughout that hockey game too. So they asked a lot of him. Uh and it’s not that he’s playing poorly, it’s just that his levels here where we’re accustomed to it being that much higher and I think it’ll get there. And so for the Canucks to grind out these wins early on without their captain at a superhuman level, uh again, I think you can spin that as a good news story for the Canucks because, you know, Quinn uh will arrive at some point here sooner rather than later. All right. Uh good win for the Canucks. Good road trip for the Vancouver Conucks. Obviously, a good debut on the season for Tyson Cole here, my wingman. So, that was fun. We appreciated you getting up and getting in here to the studio uh to watch this hockey game on a just an incredible sports Sunday with all the full slate of the NFL and of course it all builds to game six of the American League Championship series onto Monday. The Seahawks are playing Monday Night Football. So, uh, lots going on at this time of the year and the Conucks are a part of it. And all of a sudden, they have worked their way back into a conversation where I think people are are feeling good about this hockey club after, uh, kind of limping out of the gate with just the one win in their first three outings. Our thanks to Jacob Lazar. Talk about guy pulling shifts here on a Sunday. Uh, he’ll have his work cut out for him all week with the guys at Convo. Uh just a reminder again, Kucks Army, uh check out all the postgame features and uh another week ahead uh with anything around this hockey club. Uh if they make news, we’ll be on top of it at Kucks Army. So you want to be checking that out. All right. Uh that is going to do it for us. 4-3 the Canucks over the Capitals. Elias Patterson with his first of the season. Tyler Meyers, Kefir Sherwood, Teddy Bluger stake the team to a four nothing lead and then uh they’re able to get it across the finish line with a 43 final. Next up, the Penguins in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, and that’ll be our next uh episode. So, we look forward to talking to you then after that one between the Canucks and the Penguins. Uh but for everybody here at the Rink Wide Studios, uh thanks so much for spending a little bit of your day with us. That’s going to do it for this episode of Ever inquired Vancouver. [Music] [Music]

Wilson was late
Crappy Chytil got rocked😔I hope it’s not another concussion for his sake… although it very much looks like it…
As for Sherwood… if this is what he can do offensively combined with the rest of the things he brings… he needs to be paid🤷🏻♂️
Nice to see D Petey and Mancini already with fight records in the NHL
Everyone knew that there was a good chance Chytil will get hurt again. Trading for damaged goods was a big mistake.
Kane also played a 3 star worthy game
Someone please tell me the difference between Rome hit on Thorton and Wilson hit on Chytil? Rome gets 4 games suspension in the Stanley Cup finals and Wilson doesn't even get a penalty
Chytil hit was hard, clean and at full speed it wasn't late either. It's supposed to be 1.5 or less after a pass. Chytil was puck watching unfortunately. Yes, I'm a Canucks fan.
Been asking for an ep40 trade for 2 years now. Today was a real character game for him, probably his best outing in a couple of seasons. I try to call it like I see it, ep40 had a very strong game today, I hope this is the start of something positive for him.
Petey showed up.
Good job, Petey.
Now do that….every game.
EP40s own goal was his absolute bottom. All up from there…
It was three games in under 72 hours that’s three days How about you guys do your home work and make sure your coverage is accurate , were you injured in the off season or are you just not buying into the system, gonna after look at your contracts
I have be waiting to see Tyler Myers on the right wing for YEARS!
I don't want to hear Canucks fans complaining about team toughness or retribution for Chytil. The team was focused on getting a tough and gritty win against a good team on the road on the third game nearly back-to-back-to-back series with a depleted forward group. Absolutely stellar effort all around. Full marks!!
Chytil didnt get hit in the head. Shouldnt be concussion.
Canuck 3rd period strategy not good. Dumping the puck out when available pass there.
Chytil neck very thin. Whiplash.
Canucks dont work to extend the lead. Doing a stall will cost them. Will get to 6 on 5 and a loss.
Demko numbers will not be great with Canucks playing dump out in the 3rd giving the puck to the oposition continually.
Shots were 15 to 7 at one time Van, ended 25 to 32 Wash. Not a good thing.
If Petey does find his way to play with all that new extra weight it's going to be so painful for the hatebase and their click media bs'ers. They really don't want good things to happen to their team. 😂
