The Spurs Shouldn’t Be Doing THIS…
Game started Monday night in Indiana. Turned over by the Pacers. Aliu to Castle with the one hand. That’s how you start it. Spurs secure it. Castle floating again. Oh my goodness. It’s his world. We’re all just living in it. Bro, the San Antonio Spurs might actually be terrifying. Not a fun young team, but they’re genuinely scary because Stefan Castle didn’t just have a solid night. He played like a dude who has just arrived. 16 points, nine assists, two steals, five for nine shooting, and he made it all look effortless. He’s 20 years old in year two, but carries himself like he’s a 10-year vet. The Spurs were patiently building this thing, and guys, it’s starting to pay off. Castle’s confidence is peaking. Weby’s looking unguardable, and suddenly, the San Antonio Spurs don’t feel like they’re in a rebuild anymore. Let’s start with the young guy, Stfan Castle. He’s taken the kind of two-year leap every franchise dreams about. He’s gone from flashes of potential to being the connective heartbeat of this team this season. His preseason numbers, 15 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, 6.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks, shooting 47.6% from the field and 37.5% from the three. It is so great that he’s shooting this well from the three-point line. And when you watch the tape, it’s not just stats. This guy has every ounce of control in him. And while according to crafted NBA, he’s an 85th percentile in creation, 89th percentile in offensive load, 77 percentile in passer rating, and an 87 percentile in free throw rate. Guys, I cannot lie. These are all insane numbers. That means he’s constantly involved. He’s constantly driving and doing it without turning the ball over. He’s learned to change pace, use that 6’9 wingspan to keep defenders off him, and throw laser sharp passes out of traffic. Guys, that’s something most guards can’t do till beer five. Defensively, he’s already elite. Quick hands, very strong base, and crazy instincts. He got those two steals in this preseason game, and he’s reading these lanes like he’s playing football. I don’t think he’s going to be a full-time ball handler, per se, but I think he’s going to be a very good connector. He’s going to help keep possessions alive, move without the ball, and slide right into rhythm next to WBY. That’s why they’re going to work so well. But when we look at Victor Webinama, every time you think he peaks, he just starts playing even better. In his preseason game, he had 17 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks, seven for nine shooting, one for one from three, two for two from the line on plus 11 in just 24 minutes. Are you serious, bro? That is legit insane efficiency. And his footwork this preseason, it has been so clean, especially his balance. He’s learning to use that 7’5 frame with patience, posting smaller guards, staying grounded through contact, and still swatting everything that comes near him. And when we look at him on the floor, you’ll see him help inside, rotate back to the corner, and still get a contest. He’s literally bending space. Even Kevin Durant had to laugh saying his shoulders at my cheek. His shoulder at my cheek. And while Carmelo Anthony, he said, quote, “We’ve never seen no like Webby.” That’s MVP. I predict he’s MVP this year. Wow. I say that because every category that there is, he can lead this season. Five years ago, people said remember the name Victor Wanyama after he scored on Rudy Gobear. [Music] And now here we are. the last 37 regular season games, he was averaging 25.9 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.9 blocks, one steal on 49, 38, 82 splits. And well, this preseason, he’s averaging 17 points, 8.8 rebounds, four assists, two blocks on one steel in just 20 minutes of play. And now Stefan Castle’s feeding him early in possessions, and the offense just looks seamless. Web is realizing he doesn’t need to dribble into trouble. He could just face up, hold it high, and shoot over 99% of defenders like he’s in practice. And speaking of smart plays, if you want to make some too, you already know where this is going. Download Sleeper, the cleanest fantasy and pick a map in the game. You can pick points, rebounds, assists, whatever you think Castle or WBY are going to cook up that night. And track it live, guys. It’s smoother than Wemby’s footwork and a lot easier than guarding him. Use code msy when you sign up and they’ll match your first deposit up to $100. All right, guys. Back to the Spurs because San Antonio finished the preseason 5-0 with the league’s best team plus minus at plus 17. And here’s the kicker. They did it without their co-star De’arren Fox and their best perimeter defender Jeremy Sohan. Guys, they have crazy depth. Carter Bryan brings microwave scoring off the bench. Dylan Harper adds that craft, that poise, and that playmaking. And Sohan guards one through four and never shuts up on defense. This guy will guard you like he has some crazy glue on him. And now with Dior and Fox playing on the floor, the pace is even more fast. You can play big with WBY at the four or small ball with him at center. Both work. For the first time since the Kawaii era, the roster just fits. And well, you guys won’t believe it, but the timeline is even more beautiful. 3 years from now, guys, WBY will be 24, Stefan Castle will be 23, Dylan Harper will be 22, Carter Bryant will be 22, and Jeremy Sohan will be 25. Guys, that’s not a rebuild. That is a foundation you’re building. There’s some magic being built, guys, and I love the way it’s looking. And guys, the pairing between WBY and Castle is just magic in my opinion because when you look at it, WBY dominates the game vertically when you look at rim protection, lob catching, high release shooting, and Castle can also dominate horizontally. He drives, rotates, and is also good at movement passing. Together, guys, they cover every inch of the floor. And when Castle pressures the perimeter and WBY anchors the paint, teams look trapped in a cage. You can see guards literally pause mid drive because they know WMBB’s behind them. And while offensively the same story. Castle’s pace opens up early offense for WBY and WBY’s gravity opens lanes up for Castle. It works hand in hand. But to be honest, the West looks pretty brutal. Denver, Minnesota, OKC, Dallas. But this version of the San Antonio Spurs don’t look too intimidated at all. If I’m being honest, last year’s season did not look so good. But this season, they could easily become a 40 plus win team. If they sneak into that playin or even make the playoffs, which I think they’re going to do, that’s a step in the right direction. And this season, it actually looks like they’re running offensive sets. The ball moves, shooters cut. There’s a lot more defensive communication. And while Castle’s learning how to lead without forcing, and WMBB is learning how to dominate without rushing. And guys, you want to know what WBY ceiling is? It’s an MVP and a defensive player of the year in the same year. And Castle’s one of the best two-way guards of his generation. And together they might have reignited Spurs basketball. Guys, I’m so excited to watch these guys play. Spurs fans, I know you could feel it. I could feel it as well. Stefan Castle’s taking the leap. Victor Wanyama looks like he’s always been looking. An absolute 7 foot giant on the floor that you cannot guard. And this young core, Harper, Bryant, Sohan, even De’aran Fox, with these guys behind them, it’s looking dangerous. So, how far do you think they can go this year? Playin, playoffs, or are we looking at the start of the next Texas dynasty? Because if this is what San Antonio looks like before they’ve even hit their primes, the rest of the league may be in trouble. And well, until next time, it’s been your boy Mozy Hoops. If you guys enjoyed today’s video, make sure you demolish that like and subscribe cuz we’re almost at 30K subs. That is insane.

The Spurs just went 5-0 in preseason, Stephon Castle’s breaking out, and Wemby looks unstoppable… but how good can this team actually be? Are we looking at a playoff sleeper — or the start of the next NBA dynasty?

Where will the spurs rank in the west?
Last season, with Wemby out for almost half of the season, the Spurs managed to win 34 wins. With a fully healthy Wemby, we can estimate that the Spurs would have surely won around 5 more wins (so very closed to 39 wins).
The Over/Under of the Spurs are currently at 44.5, meaning that the Spurs are expected to only win 5/6 more wins this season (than the expected win total if Wemby would have been healthy).
I definitely don't buy it…
1) Wemby already seems far much better than last season.
2) Castle already shows that he should manage to improve this season.
3) Vassell, Sochan, KJ, Champagnie are getting more experience.
4) The Spurs have at last added elite rim protection for the minutes without Wemby with Kornet (one of the main reasons of the bad results of the Spurs the previous seasons).
5) The young bad players (Wesley, Branham, Bassey, Cissoko,…) have been replaced by good vets (Mclaughlin, Waters, Olynyk,…) who will bring good minutes in case of multiple injuries.
6) The Spurs added two lotery picks with Harper and Bryant for the second unit.
7) Fox will play a complete season with the Spurs without hand injury. In 2023/2024, he was a NBA top10 scorer.
Conclusion : 45 wins should be the floor for the Spurs. The ceiling will mainly depend on the improvements of the different young players and is very difficult to evaluate.
The only hole the young core have is shooting from castle and sochan. In 2 years that isn't gonna be a weakness anymore.
Carter Bryant doesn't bring microwave scoring off the bench. Lol.
As high his potential are. He's not NBA ready. His decision making is way behind. He's most likely gonna be playing for spurs gleague his 1st year.
Sochan 22
Wemby 21
Castle 20
Bryant 19
Harper 19
That is the league's best young core 5 under 22. Once these kids mature, the Spurs will contend for a very long time.
Not only will Spurs make they playoffs… Barring injury, they will be the 4 or 5 seed. Once there though, that is open and uncharted waters for this team. They could make a run or get bounced in the first round. It is gonna be a fun to watch.
