Brodie’s Breakdown vs CAR (10/14)
Brody Brazil with Drew Amenda here at SAP Center to recap game three of the season. A 5-1 final score going to the Carolina Hurricanes. And Drew, for the first time this season, felt like the Sharks were a little bit overmatched tonight. They had a good start. Couldn’t capitalize. Talk about that in a second. But overall, Carolina’s a good team. Carolina is a very good team. And Randy kind of brought up the kind of he brought up the fact that the the Carolina Hurricanes like the San Jose Sharks when the San Jose Sharks had their heyday, right? always a contender, really good veteran team, knew how to play, knew how to win. When they were against a team that was a weaker team, they would win those games decisively, which Carolina did tonight. You had a team that plays a certain way and they are relentless about it right till the end. Once they got their their West Coast legs, they were moving. And you look at this team, they’re big, they’re veterans, they are very well structured, but their structure runs from top to bottom. Nobody deviates from the way they play. They attack in numbers. They defend in numbers. They pressure. They’re physical. Their stick work is great defensively and offensively. There’s a lot of movement in their game. This is a team that is one of the best teams in the National Hockey League. And bottom line, the Sharks just aren’t at this level right now. You know, we’re just not good enough in battles in a p play. You know, I got to way make way better plays out there. You know, our line got to be way better than we were tonight. you know, it we got to create some shot offense, but we also got to be good on the defense and so on. So, uh, you know, we got to come back tomorrow and see what we can do better. And we be way better in Utah. I even thought going into the third period, you know, we know we were down two goals, but we that had been against us, you know, the last couple games. So, we we felt pretty good finding our game. Um, but we just never were connected and um couldn’t really get anything going obviously offensively. Um, it was kind of man versus boys tonight. Nobody scored in the first period. Sharks had a bunch of chances. Couple minutes into the second period, they were 0 for four already on the power play. I feel like that combined with three Carolina goals in the middle period really was the turning point of this game. Well, we showed it on on on the broadcast, the fact of the pressure that Carolina puts on you in the neutral zone. They they back up and it’s a 13. Yeah. Okay. At the blue line, but before you even reach the blue line, they’re directing you to the way they want to go, which is to the right side or your left side coming up the ice. And then they pressure and it’s numbers and it’s always pressure. You don’t get a chance to even enter the zone to set up. You try to move the puck away from the pressure which is most guys will just rim it around and then but there it doesn’t matter because they’re quick and they get on you and they pressure pressure pressure pressure. Your back is turned they pressure. They don’t give you time and space on the power play. You need time and space. And Busy I think I I counted four dynamite chances that the Sharks have not just on the power play. Three days for sure. and Busy made save after save after save. But this is a team, as we talked about, very well structured, had I think number one penalty kill last year in the National Hockey League and they showed you why tonight because it is a high pressure way to do it. And I don’t think the Sharks adjusted very well as far as entering the zone. I don’t know what you do against it, I think, without the simple fact of get skating off the pucker and make your decision early to dump it in. But that’s easier said than done as well. of the three Sharks games so far this season. Like Carolina was a good team. It was obviously not the Sharks best game of the three so far tonight. William Mecklan was the only Sharks goal scorer in this one, Drew. I feel like good for him to break that ice for this season. I look forward to a lot of big things for 72 this year. I I I don’t think we even understand where he might go. I I’m 100% with you. And what I love about William Ecklan is his confidence level. This is a guy who has worked on his game. He’s not he’s not a big guy, but there was a play and it’s a just a little thing and we couldn’t get to it on the on the broadcast. A little play just down in in Carolina’s zone and he going against I can’t remember who he’s going against but obviously a much bigger player and he gets inside position. Boom. And he gives that little bump back that You don’t need to demonstrate. Okay, sorry. Anyway, he does and he gets a little bump back and he comes out with the puck and then comes around. He’s so good at protecting the puck. He wouldn’t have done that at at 19, right? Like this is an older, bigger, wiser William and understanding how to use his body. And the other thing he does what I really like when he gets this time and space, he expands the offensive zone. He doesn’t get put in jail. He expands that zone and tries to create something. William is going to be, you know, we talk about Mlin and Will and now, of course, Michael Misa and Dickinson and some of the other younger guys, but the younger guy that we’re just talking about, he just turned 23 on Sunday. Yeah, he’s still one of the young guys. one of the young guys and that’s why I think the Sharks have the best young core under 23. But it’s still when you go up against these veteran teams and these teams that are really, really, really good, it shows that you’ve we’ve got a ways to go yet. 72 is the oldest young guy, if that makes sense. Sharks had three teenagers in the lineup. Drew, final thought here. One of them was Michael Misa. Uh, small sample size. Didn’t get to see a ton of him tonight, but it was the NHL debut. Anything that stands out? I thought he played very, very well. Well, I mean, the one thing is, like you said, it’s a tough it’s a tough to have your first game, but he made a play just right here in the first period. Came and supported the puck, got it to Orof. Orof got the shot. Yeah. And he does he did a nice job there. I think he supports the puck very well. Reads the play very well. And um when you look at his resume, it’s really hard to find and you look at his game overall, it’s really hard to find flaws in his game. What you want him to do though is as he continues to get more time, just go play. Don’t think about not making a mistake. Just go play and your natural abilities will carry you forward. We’re going to get a win eventually. Drew, thank you. Hey, buddy.

Yeah we didnt stand a chance in this one. Vs vegas and ducks I felt like that one was in grasp but this one. Man we got stomped no shots for the last 28 minutes is crazy. We have a good future but we aint there yet
Also retire number 8
How do we fail to get a SINGLE SHOT ON GOAL IN A PERIOD UNACCEPTABLE I don’t care how good Carolina is this is PATHETIC
Really don’t like the new goal song. No reason to change from the previous longtime song 😢
Who is absolutely BELTING in the background? It sounds beautiful
Would be great if the score wasn’t spoiled before I watch other highlights, thanks
I don't know what was worse the score or the Canes jerseys
Give Askarov more playing time! He's just as good as Nedeljkovic.
