Titans’ Cam Ward among rookies who impressed in Week 5 | Chris Simms Unbuttoned | NFL on NBC

Rookie of the week. Boom. This was a little too easy, Chris. We got a lot of good honorable mentions that deserve some love, right? But this was the week to pick Cam Ward. If not now, when? Right. And it’s not just that Arizona felt like tried to put the game on a platter for them. Cam Ward made a couple throws in this fourth quarter that was like, “Oh, yeah, that’s why that guy went number one overall.” No doubt. No doubt about it. I I’m not worried about Cam Ward the slightest bit. I’m not. He’s like the shest thing in Tennessee. I mean, I love the way he looks. I mean, his talent is it jumps off the screen. His arm pops off the screen. Yeah. I mean, they got one served up on the silver platter in the sense of, hey, we’re supposed you’re supposed to be gone. We’re should have put you away, but they still had to make the plays and the drives to make it happen. And he did that. And then, yeah, he got a little unlucky. Ball got tipped, got intercepted, the guy fumbles, they kick it in the end zone for a touchdown. Okay, sure. But man, there was some big plays and big throws before that, too. So, yeah, that was good to see Cam Ward off the Schneider. I’m a huge fan of his right now. The one you mentioned on Monday, the uh early in the fourth quarter, third and 10, the deep post to Calvin Ridley was a seed. I mean, just not a lot of guys throw lasers like was kind of floating to his left and just puts his foot in the ground. It’s just like zoom. It’s there. Yeah, he’s he’s got a special arm, a special release that way. Really can flick it with his wrist, can drive the ball, can be on his back foot and throw a touch. I mean, he really can do it all when it’s when it’s about, you know, different variety of throws. Couple honorable mentions, though. Quinn Sean Judkins, I mean, he’s a guy running into loaded boxes and still looks good. Well, there you go, too. Good to bring it up. The Brown The Browns do it. The Browns do it. Exactly right. Yes. And damn, he looks good. Like Bellcow big time like looks like he has the type of talent where he could lead the NFL in rushing if he gets a full season and they have a little offense around him. I mean, that kind of guy. I’m like super impressed with Quinn Sean Junkkins and doubt he’s really totally in 100% football shape as of yet. I mean what he’s only been practicing for what two and a half weeks something like that and then you got his damn Ohio State counterpart who who probably could have been rookie of the week three times already by now. I mean Acoa is just it’s that’s the thing I’m almost penalizing auka at this point because it’s every on the regular. I want to give it to someone else you’re awesome. I don’t know how many times can I say. Yeah. Well, don’t worry. I think he’s going to get it when we like he ends up going to the Pro Bowl or something like that. And and of course, the Bucks, I think we all know are going to be a playoff football team. So, we’ll get to see him a lot there, too. The big uglies, though, they go under the radar. Will Campbell strong in that win over Buffalo. The run blocking with Will Campbell is what stands out to me. It’s it’s it’s he’s an ass kicker. He’s an attitude. That’s how like that’s why people liked him. That’s why. And and not that I’ve individually like studied him yet, but like I don’t know what his pass blocking win rate is or anything like that, but I haven’t watched the game yet to go, “Oh, he’s a problem or there’s an issue there.” He’s certainly holding his own. I know that. So, it’s not something that jumps out watching a game or watching Sunday night going, “Well, yeah, Will’s really Will Campbell’s really good against the run, but the pass game, not necessarily.” No, I mean it it seems like it’s all on the up and up that way. And then you got to give a little love of Alfred Collins, one of the best plays of the NFL season. Definitely. I mean, hey, the 49ers a little beat up on the defensive side of the ball. They got to start relying on some of these young guys. And he’s a freak show. I mean, I I loved Alfred coming out. I I really did. I know the 49ers did as well. He’s one of those guys that I don’t think people realized how good he was because at Texas he was asked to two gap so much. So, it was a boring football. It was a boring watch, right? because he’s going to hold people that hold people still and then just like be like you can’t move me and I’ll throw you away when the ball gets here. But yeah, I think he’s about to be a force for the 49ers. Getting back to Judkins, he’s got 18 carries against eight plus defenders in the box. He’s averaging almost six yards per carry. There you go. That’s it just it says it all. I mean, yeah, I think we could probably go down the list on a lot of teams like that. You think Kairen Williams and the Rams don’t run the ball against some eightman boxes all that time? That’s to me again, you have to show that stubbornness, that physicality, that insist. One, it helps your O line like we talked about to get off the ball. Two, your play actions are not going to work the same if it’s like every time we get in a loaded box, we check out into a pass, right? When your play actions start to work, and this is why Detroit’s amazing at it, because they go, “Wait, it’s a like the defense is going, we got eight men in the box. Oh man, they ran for four. We got eight men in the box. Oh they ran for eight. We got eight man in the box. Oh they ran for six again. Okay, I’m I’m going to fill the hole hard this time. I mean, holy crap. We got to come downhill. Oh no, he kept it. He kept it. There goes Jameson Williams 50 yards down the field, right? I mean, that’s what happens. That’s why you got to have what we call call it and run it plays. And yeah, that’s a lost art for Philadelphia. And and to your point there, the good offenses are doing that. 1. Croskey-Merritt literally won rookie of the week and they didn't even mention him. This is his 2nd time winning it and he's not even getting a ton of touches. I'm pretty sure that he will win it again this week also against the Bears

  2. Which game are you watching? The one at University of Miami or the Tennessee Titans game? The Titans looked horrible against Arizona until the last quarter and almost threw an interception, losing a game Tennessee should have won.
