Fields Benched as Jets Fall to 0-7 After Loss to Panthers, Patriots Stay Hot | NFL Week 7 Recap

with the NFL on CBS and Mike Vrabel gets his revenge against the team that fired him. And now the team is sitting at the top of the AFC East. As you take a look at some of our teams that are on the come up and others then of course a couple that are going in the opposite direction. And fellas we’re going to start with the Patriots quarterback Drake Maye playing absolutely out of his mind at this point. It’s hard to think about to I m, he can run around a little bit too. I mean he looks like he’s 13 years old. He’s got that baby face a lot coming out of Carolina. He was put in a tough situation last year. And this of course is what everybody is looking You give any quarterback a run game there, but to see the accuracy with which he’s throwing out completion percentage and making down the field throws while you’re at it is really a testament to the fo. The second leading rusher today as well behind Rhamondre. I think the franchise quarterback for the next decade, Drake Maye, has lived up to everything. I thought he’d be coming out of gt somewhere in here that I don’t have time to get to, but either way, they’re definitely trending in the right direction. Are you buying into the Patriots at this point though? Because I know we have that conversation with the Colts where we were waiting on divisid I had this Patriots team coming in in that 6 or 7 in terms of making the playoffs. But you talk about being able to go on the road and win football games. That is a from the top to the bottom. You’re going to be in a room where he’s quizzing in a game plan and everyone in the room will hear. So when these guys go on the road, these situations pop up Bo something. On Drake. Maye the biggest thing in Josh McDaniels, because you bring in a qualified offensive coordinator that he is listening. You talk about what he completed with 91% of his passes today. That was the things I loved about him coming out was just the accuracy in which he threw. And I’m going to throw, I’m going to where it goes, where he wants it to go. Yep. And then we you know we talk about Maye we talked about that offense a lot. But let’s go to the other side of the ball because that’s where Vrabel is the best three corner group in the league right now with Ellis and Jones playing in the nickel, and it makes it tough to move the football on them. And they Calen Jason, who did nothing as a first round pick in Jacksonville had failed. Stopped seeing the passer well. He’s now rushing the passer somewhere, so they’ve done a great stand up and ask him something different? No, it’s him in the team meeting room. Danny on this in front, he’d be like, all right, now stand up. And then he’d be like, all right, on this goal line situation on our, you know, play action call. And you’d have to come up with it out of nowhere. And I remember being so 3.5 hour dinner break when you went and snuck out, I thought he was going to bring out the interception. I used to go on the road and I’d see these guys out for three hours before the team meeting. I know what stat s looking for. We can’t talk about that team anyway. I know that’s why we’re going to move along and we’re and we’re going to talk about the can talk about guys. I feel like the bears today, especially with DeAndre Swift dealing with injury we go. Same old song and dance. Is Ben Johnson really the guy? But now they’ve also won four in a row. The credit to In this moment is it Caleb Williams for taking the next step. Is it the run game for getting going that offensive line. I mean, they went out and got guys, they added him in. They said, we’re going to DeAndre Swift is running wild right now. I mean if you look he’ll make a play where he’s getting out of a pocket when he has no business getting out of a pocket and he’ll still make a play. So there’s a lot to like about his improvement. Everything has slowed down for him. You can watch his feet it s in in Detroit and now it’s making it happen. One thing about Ben Johnson when 14 late and late in the game and you have a fourth and goal from the one two yard line, bears defense there’s been a lot of conversation about this offense coming together. But they had what they held the Saints to three of ten on third down. I mean a pretty good day for that unit as well. Opportunistic gete they get their hands up. And then you have these big long linebackers recovered. Fumble. You today. But this defense coached by Dennis Allen Dennis Allen defense revenge game. And yes. And you can tell because the multiplicity able to move a lot of these guys around. And so this defense is this leading this football team and this ground game is really getting going. It was their first win against the Guys, to be fair, the win comes against a really terrible Jets team, which we’re going to talk the moment guys. That’s right. You can only beat who’s on the schedule. And that’s the thing though, ran is bye week gs what that was. But either way Danny, when you look at this and them coming together, I know Dave Canales is kind of soft spoken when he talks about this team, but year and things o go south, boy, those doubts and those concerns start coming into question marks about Bryce Young. What would his future hold? But to be able to get the team think they’ve really started to. And Bryce Young did leave the game with an ankle injury today, but he’s been playing better and that was a big part of why Dave Canales was brought in there to lift up start seeing a culture shift where you can start beating good teams. But that confidence is an amazing thing because they get the bills. Yeah. And his defense is playing lights out right now. missing from this Carolina defense is being able to get pressure off those. Or made whee kind of baited the quarterback to throw that post. And he went and got this team. Although it’s not pretty. And we don’t know what their signature win at this against the teams that are on your schedule. Because when you look at it it’s a dub. And for a team that’s in the history of where they’ve been these last couple years, every win counts. And I want to. If you’re looking at early guys in terms of All-Pro Derek Browns in that conversation, well coming off the injury this Panthers team has been fun. We’ll see if they can keep it going. But I did mention that the Fields, he did get banged up a little bit, but then he was benched in favor of Tyrod Wilson. They don’t have a run game I mean what what is there to say about this Jets. Bs feels like rock bottom. Well and that’s what I was going to say. It can’t get any worse point. Why not try to see what you have in Tyrod Taylor. And if he could bring threw it to te other team twice in certain situations. And so this last week offensively I don’t know what the identity of this offense is. And a guy in the backfield that can hit the home run. But you don’t. And so you try to drop back. You try to throw the ball. And then your number one receiver who isn’t available to clash of all things. It’s a it’s a clash of not having an identity as a whole and then just not having enough talent on the football team to win a game. I mean, Fier we can play with Tyrod Taylor. And what are you going to play with. It’s it’s a no win situation. Receivers. He was throwing to Josh Reynolds and Lazard. And I mean look at that group. It’s not very.. This is a situation they put themselves in. Right? Right. In terms of the selection of who you wanted your quarterback to be made, a commitment to Justin Fields as your quarterback on a two year deal, which took you out let’s see what the young fella has, right? And I think it was because he was cheaper, was it wasn’t too bad for a starting caliber quarterback, which would be nice money to make. I was going to say Justin Fields was ever going to be the answer. The thing I’m worried about for Aaron Glenn, because a defensive minded coach, I realla coach after one year, but knowing the New York market, knowing the type of heat, knowing how sideways it’s already been, some of the clock mismanagement already that’s taking place. The Aaron those oe situations. Yeah, I don’t think this I’m not going to say I don’t can’t speak for anything that this organization is capable of doing. Right. But I will say it are, no matter how magnetic you are as a person, you need to get and the example of what you’re looking for, because a lot of the guys that are the leaders of that They can look across the stadium and at the other locker room in that stadium and realize, well, they drafted a quarterback. Do you feel better about where you are as lot of people thought this draft was going to be loaded with quarterbacks this year. And so we’ll go get our guy. Well now all of a sudden a lot of those quarterbacks have played themselves out of, their prime position right now right now doesn’t get much easier either because they’ve got the Bengals coming up. They’ve got the Browns and they’ve got the Patriots, the Ravens, the Falcons and then the Dolphins. That And those guys were at the top of the draft. Of course not. You’re still you still have questions about all of them. Right. Because this is something that Danny said about certain quarterbacks. Right. You don’t have to terms of selee quarterback position. We’re always going to choose the player with the who has these unique traits that we have not seen, win football games or lift their programs because quarterbacks in this draft class. I believe that in a perfect franchise guy, probably not. And because I think God only made so win with quarterback rather than a win because of quarterback. Well, where else are you going to get your question? I mean, that’s that’s Mendoza is a top tier, elite level, clear for a guy, I mean, I mean, can you imagine him in New York? I don’t see him. Might be what they need to change it back, but he’s a little. Eli was kind of like that. Eli didn’t give you a lot. We got to go. We, wen Kansas City. They are finally at full strength and they look just everyone expected them to be. H
