What did we learn (if anything) about Dillon Gabriel in the Browns’ win over the Dolphins?

All right, guys. Let’s get to our next topic brought to us by Mazda for those who keep the game moving forward. It’s not just about playing the game. It’s about redefining it. Because these moments do more than win. They push what’s possible, reminding us to go that extra yard, shift into that extra gear, and keep the game moving forward. When you follow what moves you, the unexpected is only the beginning. And just like there’s more to every highlight, there’s more to every Mazda. Mazda, move, be moved. Jay, the Browns did not ask Dylan Gabriel to do much yesterday, right? It was a very basic game plan. They ran the ball significantly more than they passed it. The final numbers for Gabriel, incredibly pedestrian, 13 for 18 for 116 yards, a 6.4 yard for uh completion average, no touchdowns, no picks. He was sacked twice. He had a quarterback rating of 89 and a total QBR of 23.5. people afterwards were jumping into conclusions, good, bad, whatever it was in terms of how this game impacted their evaluation of Dylan Gabriel. So, I wanted to ask this question to you guys, and I’ll let this roll however it goes. Was there anything to take away from yesterday that should impact what you thought of Dylan Gabriel prior to yesterday’s game? Did we learn anything about Dylan Gabriel, good, bad, indifferent, from what he did against the Dolphins? I I think there’s always something to be learned, and there there were little things. His sacks are bad sacks. The sack he took, it was the second sack he took. He didn’t even move. He might as well been Joe Flacco. I mean, move off your spot when the pocket is collapsing. And I don’t know if that’s a lack of pocket awareness. I’m not sure, but I know he was not that guy in Oregon. I remember when Ohio State played him, he was slippery. He was hard to get to. And maybe he hasn’t gotten to that confidence level yet. I’m not sure. Um, I do want to go back and look at everything that went on in that play. Um, I haven’t done that yet. So, I I wasn’t impressed with the sack that he took, the second one that he took. Um, I don’t want to jinx anything, but he hasn’t thrown an interception. Didn’t he throw a pick that got overturned? He did. He did. Terrible. Technically, yeah, technically he hasn’t thrown a pick. He should have five, but somehow he has zero. And you know what? Those all come out in the wash. though later when he gets a ball intercepted that goes off his wide receivers’s hands like the Green Bay and Cincinnati thing. No, you shouldn’t have won against Green Bay and you should have won against Cincinnati. It’s a long season. Over the course of the season, as the sample size goes up, all those things will regress to the means. But I for me, I think what what he was allowed what what Stfansky was allowed to do yesterday was he wants to slowwalk this kid clearly and that’s what he’s doing. He’s giving him babysized bites. He’s not overwhelming him with the entire playbook. He’s not asked to throw deep. He’s basically executing an extended run game. And so far, he hasn’t screwed that up, which is good because the way you get more is to handle what they’re giving you. And so far, I feel like he has executed what they’ve given him. I know he was 13 of 18. I I know there were at least two drops, and I mean drops that were absolute drops. And then suddenly if if if those are catches, he’s 15 of 18. And I know if maybe there was a ball or two caught that shouldn’t have been caught, but he hasn’t impressed me. He certainly hasn’t deserved to get the bench. Um but there are little things there, I’m sure, that the coaching staff are they’re honing in on things that that can make him better. I think his best game is Minnesota. I still think that’s fair. I think that’s fair. And that’s a little odd because that was one I was like, man, I don’t know. It’s a disrupted practice week. He’s making his first start. I thought he looked better against Minnesota than he has in either last two yesterday. Again, going back, they had the uh conversation on Thursday where they put in the the Wildcat because they were afraid of the weather. They were concerned about the weather with the rain and the high winds. So clearly that tells you the entire game plan was built around the weather. Yeah. and they were trying to just not put him in harm’s way and there was nothing stand out about his performance yesterday. I think one of the fence rider questions was will he have a turnover? I said yes. I did too. I thought he would because you can’t live the way he was living in Pittsburgh that’s going to catch and the weather, you know, you’d expect and certainly he should have had a pick yesterday. Uh I that he got totally bailed out on that call. That was terrible. I didn’t understand that call either. How in the hell did they make that call that pass interference? So, it is what it is. Like, listen, he’s a third round pick. I don’t think the plan was ever for him to be playing this early. Uh, when they drafted him on draft night, I don’t think anybody thought inside that building that he was going to be the starting quarterback by October, but they’re making the best of what they can with the situation that they’re in. And that means a lot of seat belts and guard rails. Yeah, it was. Yeah, I was, you know, as I was watching the game, I was like, man, you know what? This good dude came and cut my grass. You know what I’m saying? I think it’s a little too high though, man. I told my wife that um she might want to get the lawnmower out, but then again, she got allergies. So, we I went in the phone book and you say, “G Bush, what are you talking about?” Those are the things that I think about when Dylan Gabriel is playing quarterback. So, he didn’t capture your attention. Uh yeah. No, it it’s mid. I mean, it’s below mid actually to be honest with you. It’s below average. Did you think Well, well, look, here’s there was another play where he threw the ball and I thought it was an interception because it went right through the defensive back. I don’t know how it was an interception. It looked like he threw it through the guy’s body. I said the same thing. I said to Zack in the press box, it caught that. I thought that he caught that. I thought it was too. So, he’s he has a good DB, too. He has a lot of turnover worthy throws. Um, you know, I I look at it from a perspective. It doesn’t change what I think. I think if you need Dylan Gabriel to come into a game and he’s your backup, he can give you a chance to tread water and he’s not going to kill you too much, right? Yeah. I think he can learn what you want to do, but in terms of being a a franchise quarterback, I I didn’t see it coming out of college. I I kind of don’t see it now. Um, and I’ve always said the the judge of a really good quarterback and what you want to look for in my opinion is I’m looking 12 I’m looking 10 to 25 yards downfield. What are you doing in your throws 10 to 25? Every quarterback can do the dink and dunk stuff. But we saw with Joe Flacco what it looks like when you do have somebody that is able and willing to put the ball downfield. It opens other things up in in terms of the running game. Quinn Sean Judkins is, you know, they they playing everybody in the phone booof with him. I’m surprised they threw five passes more than 10 yards downfield. I don’t remember them. His average depth of target for most of the game was under three yards. Well, eight passes were behind the line of scrimmage. It was two. It was 2.3. And then I think it finished at like 4.8. Yeah. But for most of the game, his averaged depart was less than three yards. And I, you know, that’s the thing is I want to evaluate this kid, but if they just keep spoon feeding him, it it’s hard because to your point, G, anybody can make, he was eight of eight on throws behind the line of scrimmage. Well, those are gimmies. That’s not going take those out. And he’s five of 10. But there’s so many holes in the damn. All right. Well, let him drop back and let it rip with terrible tackles. I know. And no wide receivers over. You know how that’s going to end. And so I guess this is the way it’s going to look. This is it. You’re going to run it. bull to and I’ll say this, it you can win football games and you know, you can praise the Browns for winning a game that they should win, but you can also critique the quarterback play and say that’s not going to be sustainable. If they if he continues to play that way sooner rather than later, he’s they’re going to sit down and say, “All right, we’re going to Shadore Sanders and see what he got.” First of all, this was a hard game to watch. I mean, it was boring as hell, especially the once the Browns got the pick six to start the second half, you knew the game was over. Even as bad as the Browns have been, you’re like, the Dolphins are not doing anything here. It was so boring. You had the Chris Bryant to broadcasters calling the game Spiroas. Oh, they was they was they they went to in the time machine talking about the 2017 times that I said this game is over, bro. Spiroas hit the scene like a house of cards and now he’s and Archeletta kept talking about how he really feels sorry for this fan base. His wife’s parents are from here and it felt like a pity party for the Browns. God. But um and then they were just going on and on about the quarterbacks even though the quarterbacks really didn’t do anything. It was weird. But anyway, uh in terms of Dylan Gabriel again, it it’s you hate to go overboard because it’s three games. It’s three games with a with a crappy supporting cast. So, it’s hard to to give a full evaluation of him, but I’m going to say what I’ve said the last two weeks and what I’ve said all along. I don’t see anything in this guy that makes me think he’s a starting quarterback in the NFL. It’s it’s I’ll admit it’s not fair because he hasn’t played enough and he doesn’t have good talent around him. But I just feel like if if the if you had that quarterback, you’d see it a little, right? Wouldn’t you? You should see something. There’s nothing with this guy. Again, he’s not terrible, but there’s nothing I’ve seen with this guy in the preseason and training camp and in the season so far that makes me think he’s a starting quarterback in the NFL at City, which means we’re back to square one at the end of the year. Well, we’ll see once Shador Sanders gets his shot, but clearly he’s not ready yet. Or at least they think he’s not ready. So, we’ll see. I It was interesting that I We’ll save it for later because we’re talking about Shadore later. Otherwise,

Dillon Gabriel did not show any emotion following the Cleveland Browns‘ 31-6 blowout win over the Miami Dolphins, which marked the first victory of his NFL career.

Gabriel didn’t have to do much in the sloppy conditions. He completed 13 of 18 passes for 116 yards. He was fortunate on a few passes, including an interception that was called back due to a pass interference penalty.

After the game, Gabriel’s demeanor was noticeably muted for someone who had just secured his first career win. He explained that his focus wasn’t on celebrating the moment, but on what comes next for the team and himself. | https://heavy.com/sports/nfl/cleveland-browns/dillon-gabriel-muted-reaction-dolphins-blowout/

  1. Wtf do u mean they're making tge best of the situation they're in??!!
    THEY DID THIS!

THEY CREATED THIS SITUATION! THE DIDNT FALL & SOMEHOW FIND THEMSELVES DEALING WITH SOMETHING THEY DIDNT CAUSE!!

Thus dude makes the most excuses EVERY TIME HE TALKS!

  2. Winning was probably worse for the Browns. They need to fire Stefanski, and it’s very obvious Dillon isn’t the one(backup maybe).

Stefanski stopped running the 2nd half.. can’t make it up

Dillon-again, just watch him. He has “okay” moments, but far more worse.

Now is the time to shake things up while we have a win under us. If it wasn’t for the defense and penalties, we very easily should have lost that game.

Coming from a lifer 🫡 Go Browns! Woof Woof Woof!!!!

  3. We know what Gabriiel is. A career back up. Nothing wrong with that. Every team needs two QBs, and they've now given him enough starts and snaps to establish he will play at that level next time he's called upon. So he should sit and Shedeur should start the rest of the year. The absolute worst outcome would be for us not to know what Sanders can do, and then cut him loose or trade him next year, only to have him become a star while we squander our very high number one pick on someone who proves to be a complete bust. And it's very likely to happen with this "brain trust."

  4. Everybody's missing the point from training camp it looked like that Dylan Gabriel is the one that needs to be working to learn the offense Shedeur through for two touchdowns Gabriel has only thrown for one in 3 games

  5. It’s funny that the narrative is the coaching is holding Dillon back instead of they are coaching to his limitations. When he speaks Shedeur it’s he’s not ready 5th round pick. We see your BS Jason. He’s a joke

  6. All of you, Gabriel haters are out of your freaking mind!,.. Gabriel took facts where he was because he knew he couldn't escape them so he went down right where he was and didn't take a 25-yard sack loss. That's why Sanders would have ran backwards and got sacked and we would have lost 25 yd. Gabriel was very smart in it taking a sack!!

  7. I don't listen to a word g-bush says about Gabriel because obviously he hates the man,… The same thing gbush says about Sanders that everybody hates on Sanders and says negative things. So does he about Gabriel so it's the same thing!….

  8. Jay, you continue to be wishy-washy! You don’t want Dillon Gabriel benched, but then you say he hasn’t impressed you! You are one of the worst analysts for this show, that you’re on. It’s like you don’t want to be on record for saying anything negative about, Dillon Gabriel. Heaven forbid, the topic turns to Kevin Stefanski, being on the hot seat or on the verge of getting fired. I think you might actually start crying, the way you seem to have a “man crush” on him. The weather is a poor excuse, because Dillon Gabriel played quarterback, in Oregon, where it rains a lot!

  9. But why is the super computer being spoon fed though, why is the guy that got 1st team reps all off season getting spoon fed. Wasn’t he suppose to be the one that picked up the offense quick lol funny how that goal is being moved

  10. He can't play, nothing has changed. He still can't throw. He still can't see. He still lacks confidence. He still sucks overall…check those stats 😂😂 not on the field for 3 of the TD's

  11. Y'all riding him hard…if it were Shedeur's stats, yall would talk differently. He deserves to be benched. Shedeur was benched in a pregame for sacks and this is real-life and Dillon is not benched. Y'all racist and in denial. Dillon. Sucks

  12. Let’s take advantage of the opportunity!!! Trade Sanders and a 2nd round pick to the Jags for Travis Lawrence and use the 2 first round picks to take the best left tackle and receiver and we can climb out of this 3 yr mess

  13. It’s hard to compare them when only one plays or even had an opportunity during training camp. No way in hell do they believe Gabriel is their future QB but they are invested because they picked him first and have to save face. But any component organization would see if Shedeur could possibly be a QB1 so they could compare him with what’s coming out next year. If they don’t think so and they aren’t going to give him an opportunity then release him and get rid of all the drama.

  14. Looks like the so called "Super Computer" has a Mydoom virus! 🤣😂🤣😂 It appears that he can't throw to the right, down the field or see over the line He had clean pockets with wide open receivers and failed to hit them with the pass! . Shedeur Sanders would have made those throws!

  15. Yall still dont get it . The browns got 1st round pick in the 5th round . This has been there plan before the draft they planned on making shedeur sit for a year. Kevin s has predraft interviews talking about if they draft shedeur that there plan is to make him sit . They been giving smoke n mirrors to stir up the media . Shedeur is there guy

  16. What I'm learning is that if Gabriel can't drive the ball down the field to score touchdowns he is basically ineffective at the quarterback position. If the team wants to stick with him ,it would be best to just go with the Wildcat. But they have to draft another good running back because Judkins is not Superman .

  17. That WAS NOT a terrible PI call 🤣 Minkah clearly had Fannins arm. Stop the nonsense. Nothing will be good enough for Sellout Bush. He’s sold his souls for Sack Sanders.
