What does an NBA team do in the Preseason?
Let’s go. You come to stuff like this, you do it as a team. Tough training camp. Get to see some guys off the court, figure out what they like. Look at that. It’s good to do this kind of, you know, take a step back, get out here again, support the city. Feel like it always makes you closer when you get on the court for sure. PCA, it’s fun. These guys, they’ve been here for a little while. City loves them. Mus always has energy. I was a big baseball fan. It’s great just being here. I’m seeing the energy they bring. Let’s Let’s evaluate ourselves on our identity tonight, okay? By everybody, okay? By everybody, because we’re going to need everybody tonight. Running, getting down the floor, moving, cutting, getting to the offensive glass. Got to get under full court. Focus on your passing. Our coaching staff is no different than a team, right? You want your team to be connected. You want them to have good chemistry. You want them to play together. You want them to be unselfish. They want them to be sacrificed. I’ve always said this before. If your staff can’t model those behaviors, why would you expect your team to model those behaviors? Family on three. 1 2 3. We’re getting ready to start preeason. First game of preseason for both the Cavs and the Bulls. Feels weird. I mean, been back here this early taking it all in right now, but pretty sure once the game starts, I’ll forget all about it. Okoro for three and the Bulls tie it up. Bang, bang. That’s his shot right there. He’s here with Cleveland. The corners were his shot. We labeled him an avoid defender when he was on our team. So, I’m going to try to avoid him as much as I can. That just tells you how good of a defender he is. Taking away Aoro showing off his defensive instincts. He’s a huge energy guy. He can make shots. He pretty much does everything. He’s an amazing player. Those emotions of course will come back, but I think it makes him play even harder out here. Still my ro with your with your allound. I think Chef Christine does an amazing job. She is really is somebody that embodies a a team setting. She really sacrifices for the players. She tries to find the balance between what they want to eat and what’s probably right to eat. So today we are doing crab cakes and pork chops. My role is I am the chef and the dietitian. Nutrition is huge for the athletes. Everything that they eat is going to affect how they perform. My first year was IO’s rookie season and I mean he came in was super picky and as he’s gotten older and more mature he’s really honed in on his diet and he’s doing really well with that and I we were just talking about you and I thought you’ve been doing so good with your nutrition over the years. Yeah, absolutely. Breakfast your favorite all day too, right? Yep. Appreciate it. We like to base our menus off of foods that they’re familiar with. You also have to make it not so healthy that they don’t want to eat it. Different players have different dietary restrictions, different preferences, so different goals, whether it’s to gain weight or to lose weight. It’s really about variety and then also familiarity so that they’re interested in coming back and eating with us every day. These guys have got to be in a good place physically to be able to perform. So, it starts with nutrition and it starts what are they doing in the weight room. You want to make sure that you’re physically helping them perform to their best. We got the big speaker for you today. What up, baby? You good? One, two, three, four, five, six, go. Yes, sir. Two sets. Once we got that, mini bands around our toe box. Basketball in general is just a physically demanding and dynamic sport. and go. Yeah, that’s it. That’s it. Instinct. Four, three, two. That’s why we plan and create these workouts and these warm-ups for players so that they can make sure that every muscle, every tendon is ready to go. Six. Come back. When we’re at home in Chicago, we have everything the players need. When we travel on the road, that role changes a bit. So, we have to get creative. And go. Boom. Boom. Get there. Out. Okay. Last two things. We’re going to have some fun. Move fast. Yeah. Slippery in the mountains today. Maybe with eyes. Malees sends it down. Go get it, young fella. What have we practiced? See if we can do some of those things against an opponent instead of doing it against ourselves. What kind of growth do we need to make coming out of this basketball game? He’s he’s a players coach. He respects, you know, my input on things. Talk to you. You’re good at offensive rebound. Is there anything you have offensive rebounds you feel helps you like when you go? As soon as they turn, I go. Right. Is exactly right. I think we’re at a point where we have enough guys to to be competitive and it’s also not at the cost of taking away development from guys. We’re fortunate where, you know, we got a a Hall of Fame coach like Billy who knows how to get that the best of both worlds. You’re you’re like he’s coming. He’s three steps away and you’re like you’re letting him know you’re going to take a charge. He knows it’s coming. Almost be like you fake it and then go set it. It’s not all about shooting the basketball. It’s about the other things that I think these younger guys need to understand are the controllables. And I’ve always said this like 95% of the game the balls play without the ball in your hands. What are you doing to impact the game? What are you doing to generate extra possessions? Lunging for a steal and jumping out of the way or avoiding the contact. It doesn’t do anything. You know, kind of put them on an island where they’ve got to make some decisions to put their bodies in play. It’s like running in transition. You may have to run 20 times to get it twice. Got to cross your arms. Cross your arms. Then you really look like a coach. And say like obvious stuff like Good shot, Co. Good shot, Co. See how that works? Nod your head. I love that. That’s coaching. So, you want to do the uh the shooting? Yeah, we can. Transition shots just stationary. We can Okay, get there. Get low. Get low. Good shot. Great shot. Could tell as soon as he released it. I really feel good about the people that we have inside of our organization from top to bottom. Just really good people. Unselfish people. People that sacrifice. Go catch. Nice job. If he’s in the far corner and the actions happen here, so like you can’t rest. You got to always look get attached to Nice defense by Terry. Nice job. Way to correct yourself. Everybody plays a role and sometimes their role comes up at different points in the game, but their role is important. Every day getting better. It’s about making small incremental growth and changes each day to try to improve and get better. Hey Bulls fans, thanks for watching. For more videos, click here.
