  6. I’ve heard this a million times. And, sure, they’ll win the next game most likely. Then, they’ll just have more soft moments a week from now, and we’ll be right back here, dissecting it all.

    They’ll probably have another team meeting in November/December to discuss this issue again, as if it’ll just be a light switch. It’s annoying as balls. Until they stop puckering up for the opposition, they’ll be stuck in reverse.

  8. Sounds like the same old crap, but I do have some optimism about this specific case because Stolarz doesn’t strike me as the type of guy who would just accept some nonsense excuses about what he said and back down. I think he has a real presence and a big voice that people will listen to.

  11. It’s down to Berube to enforce accountability and get guys to hit and play a more physical game. If you don’t hit you don’t play, that should be the message.

They lost any credible chance of winning when no one did anything after Bennet speed dribbled Knies head in the 2023 season , punched Stolarz in the 2024 season, while it might be a little early to write them off for 2025, I’m reasonably sure other teams are taking notes and maybe to change it up it won’t be Bennet this year. Knowing what the problem is doesn’t get you any closer to fixing it if you don’t have the proper tools. I think Knies might actually be part of the answer and having him here long term is an amazing get but you likely don’t want your top forward tuning guys up. Hopefully Treliving figures it out, so easy to become a fan favourite here playing an old school game…

  18. What I’m more concerned about is that he made these comments to the media, I may be connecting dots that don’t exist but I would suspect that he’s made these comments internally to the team and coaches.

  23. ‘Close the door’.  No Auston, you don’t just get to file this away and move on.  You are supposed to man up, self reflect and improve. More status quo bullshit from a supposed ‘leader’.

  24. It’s fair most of you are skeptical, but the fact he said this means he is willing to be accountable for it and was the totally pro, right move to do.

  27. A few more incidents like on Saturday and Stolarz will be asking Treliving to tear up the 4-year contract that begins next season.

  28. Sure, that’s what he says now. Let’s see what happens next time the opponent runs a goalie. And the time after that. And when Bennett does it (and whether the league goes after him, or the retaliation against him).

  32. Matthews vague wording is intentional. What he wants fans to think was discussed. The gutless displays on the ice where Leafs skaters don’t stand up for anything. What was really discussed. Why 2.5 million dollar players aren’t allowed to call out their betters. Easy conversation to have.

  33. For ONCE can the captain come out and say, ‘Yup we deserved the call out, we played soft and NEED to be way better’ what’s with the constant tip toe-ing. This is exactly why I have zero faith in Matthews as captain and this team in general.
