The Cardinals need starters who can pitch 7 innings in most starts.
The Cards do not need starters who can only pitch 5 innings in most starts.
2027 strike coming. Don’t expect Dewitt too spend any money for ‘26.
Ugh Noot injured, so we can’t trade him
Should or will? If it's will then none that are any good.
Well we have a slow defense so we need strikeout pitchers. Figure it out all those balls put in play with a weak DER and guess what they fall in for hits at about a 30% rate 31% to be more precise. 200 K’s at 31% is 62 hits a season. Improve the defense and you give up 100+ less hits
How you feel about Dustin May is how i feel about Giolito. He and Quintana are my guys.
My wish list. Trade Gray get what you can. Buy a ticket for Miles to retirement. Sign 1 frre agent Dustin May, put Pallante back to the pen. With MAy add Liberatore, Leahy, McGreevy, Matthews. Add Doyle to the mix, plus Henderson, Roby and Robberse. Bullpen JoJo, Pallante, King, Svanson, O'Brien, Plus 2. If you are going to be average be average young!
Bueler and Mays
Zac Gallen?
What about Julio Urias or Trevor Bauer
Let Mad Max finish his career at home.
Always liked Pablo Lopez, maybe an offer to the Twins to acquire him? Zach Littell is a good free agent option, along with Gallen. If Leahy is in the rotation, will need an effective long reliever as well to replace him
Nootbar, Donovan, Gorman could bring in major league ready pitching help.
If anything they will pick up a few guys that may have trade value at mid season. Verlander, bullpen guys, buy super low sell high. I don't see them going for much more.
One big reason not to resign Mikolas is that the Cards rivals have all gotten used to him. Yeah, he can pitch 7 innings, but if he's getting blasted 2nd or 3rd time through the lineup it means nothing. If he is resigned it should be 1 year and making less than Burleson
The Cardinals did nothing substantial in acquiring quality pitchers when they were drawing 3 million fans per year. Having just finished a year with 2.25 million fans, and facing a season when we will likely draw under 2 million fans, there is no way the management is going to spend a dime on free agent pitching.
History shows that it is not crazy to have 8 starters on the roster. Granted, maybe 2 of those guys go to the bullpen, abut they are available to fill the inevitable holes. I would not hesitate to sign anyone you mentioned, if the price is right. Quntana, Giolito, and Malay are personal favorites.
Look all you want. DeWitt is not spending big money on a pitcher. So you will get the middle tier pitcher at best. Pitchers of the quality like Snell you can forget about it. Heck, they want to get rid of Gray. You think they are going to pay for a pitcher more than they are paying Gray? Keep dreaming. If the Cards system can't develop aces then there is no way DeWitt is going to go out to buy one.
Starting pitching, starting pitching the Cardinals need starting pitching and they need it now. Please sign good starting pitching that costs some money and maybe fill the seats again. We need starting pitching and now.
It's going to be the usual low hanging fruit.
Walker pitched for the Dodgers and Phillies. He seems like a Cardinal pick up to me. I wouldn't mind a 1 year deal for Max, but a trade would probably be an avenue.
Why would a veteran pitcher want to sign with a rebuilding team, when they have better choices
This Cardinals team clearly doesn't wanna change things for years to come if they simply extend Miles Mikolas, if you notice I didn't say if we didn't keep Nado. Miles Mikolas is next up and had longer than almost anyone on this team to turn eyes and the man just can't pitch, so let him go!!
Not Flaherty!
Trust in Chaim and Pierpont to make the correct decisions on who to b ring in and that they can fix/improve them.
