BACK TO MEDIOCRITY? Falcons News After Disappointing Loss To 49ers In NFL Week 7
Are the Falcons officially back to mediocrity? I’m here to tell you not so fast, my friends. I still believe that this is a good football team that maybe got exposed a little bit last night due to some glaring issues that I saw. The main one being exactly what Arirov Myrov, I’m going to go with Myrov. I’m going to go with Ari Myrov and what he had to say, which was Christian McAffrey versus the Falcons. 201t total yards and two touchdowns. That’s the main reason that you lost this football game. But on today’s episode, we’re going to go through the other glaring issues that are holding back the Atlanta Falcons. Welcome to Falcons Today by Chat Sports. My name is Moose and like I said, I’m not here to tell you that the sky is falling. What I am here to tell you is that there are some areas that if the Falcons want to be playoff contenders this year, they need to clean up. Now, let’s start with this question because I know a lot of Falcons fans already had the question answered in the previous video, but I’m going to ask it again anyway. What was the reason the biggest reason the Atlanta Falcons lost versus the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football? I’ve got four reasons in my opinion. Now, the biggest reason could be up for debate. However, this is in my opinion the biggest reason the Falcons lost this game. You cannot stop the run. Now, you might be a smart Alec fan and say, “Well, you got to put points on the board to win football games.” But to be completely honest, if you stopped Christian McCaffrey last night, they would not have put any points on the board. They only scored 20 total. Christian McCaffrey was responsible for 12 of those. 20 minus 12 is eight. You would have won the football game 10 to eight if you stopped Christian McCaffrey. But the reason that I bring up not stopping the run is because this is something that even I last week on October 16th brought up and said, “Hey, kind of waving a little bit of a red flag here. The Falcons have a big problem. They don’t have a true nose tackle. They don’t have someone that can plug up the middle of the field and stop the run.” And there were tons of you that were like, “Well, I’m going to be completely honest with you. I’d rather have a quarterback. I’d rather have some corner depth. I’d rather have a wide receiver. No, the biggest area right now that the Falcons need is a defensive run stopper. That is the biggest area. The 49ers ran for 174 yards on you last night. And again, multiple of you. Well, Moose, you said this was an elite defense. Okay, look. I’m going to say it right now. I’m gonna say it one time only. I think the Falcons secondary is showing that it’s elite. This is a very good, much improved defense that has a glaring weak spot. It is a very, very good defense that has one major problem. They can’t stop the run right now. And also, this is the last play that I mean, this is third and what? 12. What does that say, Dylan? Second. Third and 13. Third and 13. and you have 10 men on the field. What are we doing? That’s a coaching mistake. That’s Jeff Albbrick right there. That’s Raheem Morris right there. You got to have all of your players on the field. 10 players and you go up and that’s that’s that uh crossing route to Christian McCaffrey that ends up getting that first down which leads to that final touchdown which was the dagger in the coffin. But back to my original point, you need a nose tackle. Let’s just call it like it is guys. You need a true defensive run stopper. I can think of two players right now that you could call up and absolutely get on your team. Originally, I had said that Jeffrey Simmons wasn’t up for trade, but the Tennessee Titans are like what, one-6. They suck. I mean, they couldn’t beat the Raiders, and the Raiders just got blown out by the Chiefs 31 to nothing. So, I’m sure if you offered a decent enough package, you could get Jeffrey Simmons. But Shelby Harris is the second option on this list and he was the one that Adam Shfter had listed as a trade candidate. You wouldn’t have to give up nearly enough or excuse me, nearly as much to get a player like Shelby Harris. That’s like a third day pick and maybe at best like a fifth. I don’t even think you would have to give up a fifth. You probably have to give up a sixth or a seventh to get a player like Shelby Harris considering how old he is and he doesn’t start. Mason Graham has that title. So, that’s the first major issue the Falcons have right now. They cannot seem to stop the run. Number two, Penn versus the Blitz. And look, I’m I’m still in on Michael Penn Jr., he’s only had nine starts, but he has now a clear and obvious problem. When he’s under pressure, he panics. He panics big time. We went through every single throw last night based off of NextGen stats and we determined that Pennix threw under pressure nine times yesterday. Nine. He was 0 of nine. I mean that there is no again advanced metric for that. You can’t complete one pass under pressure. You’ve got a problem. Now, when Penn is left in a clean pocket, it is a completely different player, completing 69% of his throws,00 passing yards this season. Now, he does have three interceptions, but look, you’re going to throw interceptions in the in the league under pressure and in a clean pocket. Interceptions are going to happen. So, I’m not looking at the interceptions. I’m looking at the output, the completion percentage, the passer rating. All of it is significantly higher than when he’s under pressure. His completion percentage under pressure is below 50% and it’s almost at 40. He’s only got 297 yards, only a touchdown. And his quarterback rating, passer rating is 63.6. Here’s the other scary thing. He’s not turning the ball over under pressure. He’s not completing passes. So, here’s what I would look at. If you’re turning the ball over under pressure, you’re trying to fit a ball into a tight window, you’re trying to make a play happen, something gets tipped. I get it. Those things happen. He’s not finding anybody. Meaning, his accuracy is completely dipped. And you know what the main reason is? Is that the the feet the feet he never gets his feet set. He looks like a jumping rabbit around there. And for a player that has not been known for his mobility, he’s more mobile than we give him credit for, but he’s not a mobile quarterback. He looks far too jumpy in the pocket for for his type of play. I mean, look, Caleb Williams might not be great from the pocket as well, but he can scramble. Same with JJ McCarthy. Same with Boone Knicks. I mean, Jaden Daniels can run. Everybody in that draft class has the ability to roll outside of the pocket. Drake May can do stuff with his legs. Pennix is the least mobile out of all of them and he has the craziest feet. Another thing, by the way, and I know that you’re going to look at this and say, “Duh, but the intentional grounding is inexcusable. You are driving down at the very end of the first half. You cannot take that bad of a penalty. That is a rookie mistake. Those things get cleaned up with experience. So, the intentional grounding I’m not super worried about. I’m not super upset about. I thought last night the Falcons offensive line played perhaps its worst game all football season long. Bad performances are going to happen. What you have to do is take these inexcusable performances, these inexcusable plays, these inexcusable drives, and you have to learn from them. You’ve got to be able to get outside of the pocket. You’ve got to be able to get that ball to the line of scrimmage, and it’s got to be in the direction of one of your wide receivers. I realize that that might be a lot to throw at you and it might sound like I’m harping on Michael Pennock Jr., but he’s still a young kid. He’s still got a lot of football left to play. So, I still believe in Michael Penn Jr. I’m typing my yeses. You should as well, but if you don’t, let me know in the comments section why. I don’t think Falcons fans are very fair when it comes to their criticism of Michael Penn Jr., he’s got nine starts. He’s not going to look like a Pro Bowler after nine starts. Hell, even Jaden Daniels last year only really started to become Jaden Daniels down the stretch. And Michael Pennix Jr. didn’t have the luxury of starting over Kirk Cousins last year until the final three games. So, there’s a lot of time left for MPJ to learn and develop. Now, we’re going to get into the other two areas that I noticed. But before we do that, I have to tell you about my friends over at Factor. Go ahead, Dilly. Push that over. All right, listen. So, this is, by the way, what I saw from the 49ers game and where we’re at as a whole at three and three. Number three, the bad situational play calling. I’m not going to absolve Zack Robinson of some poor performances and perfor and poor choices last night against the San Francisco 49ers. I realize this might be a meme and this is kind of funny because we can go, haha, look how funny this is and how, you know, lame this kind of feels. But if you look at this specific meme with Grrew, it does tell a pretty interesting story. You’re going for it on fourth down. It’s fourth and one. Everybody in their mother is calling for the Falcons to run the football. You take Bean out of the game. Wait, what do you mean you take Bean out of the game? Like what? I mean, let’s put aside the fact that on third and one, the play before, you run a pitch play to Bean. Now, putting the ball in Bejian’s hands is the right thing to do on third and one, but it’s the wrong play design. You’ve got to pound that rock up the middle. You’ve got to halfback dive that. You’ve got to power run that. That is This is not a finesse play like that pitch indicated. And of course, Bejon being so good can make something out of nothing. He got hit behind the line of scrimmage and still is able to push his way back to the original line of scrimmage to keep it at fourth and one. But tons of fans echoed the exact same things that we’ve been talking about on this channel. Why are you taking your best player off the field in the most important play of the game? Again, I have given Zack Robinson credit for when he’s moved down to the field that the play calling has looked better, but situationally there have been moments where I’m like, “Dude, get your head out of your ass.” And using him as a wide receiver has seemed to work. It has. I like them using him in the slot. I like him lining up as a wide receiver. I think it adds more variety to what he can do as an offensive weapon. but not punching that ball forward with your very best player. The sports can be so simple. If you dumbed down sports, right, to its very basis basic elements in crunch time, when the game is on the line, you want your best player to have the ball. Period. in any sport. In any sport, football, baseball, hockey, golf, basketball, I mean, Michael Jordan, like he always wanted the ball because he knew he gave his team the best chance to win. And speaking of chances to win, he had multiple opportunities in this game to score. You had multiple opportunities to fight back, get in this game, and you just couldn’t execute. That’s the problem. Last night was about execution. You had multiple drives that absolutely just took the wind out of your sales. It’s not the worst thing in the world because, like I said, it’s not a foundational problem. That was an execution problem last night. Now, maybe the foundational problem is that the inconsistencies are still there in execution, but last night was not a we just have worse players. That’s not what it was. And last but not least, losing Dine Diablo hurt, man. That really hurt. He has been your best player outside of Xavier Watts all season long. People on Twitter were going ballistic. You can already tell what it looks like when you have JD Bertrand on the field instead of Divine Diablo. I mean, look, everybody’s got to step up and do their job. But Divine Diablo, there is a reason that under the right coaching, this guy can be a Pro Bowl talented linebacker. Take a look at his PFF grades. This was going into last night’s game playing for the Las Vegas Raiders. He is like slightly slightly above mid maybe with the Falcons. He’s great, but I also want to calm your nerves a little bit. We had some other players missing in action against the 49ers. Jaylen Walker was out. That’s another player that could help. Billy Bowman Jr. is out. Nickel corner covering the slot. I mean, that’s a big thing considering Christian McCaffrey dominated you from that position all night. Divine Diablo ruled out. And then Ray Ray Mloud, another offensive weapon, was a healthy scratch because of his off the- field issue. So, you got four players that could end up making a difference. Ray Ray Mloud being the exception there because I don’t know how much of a difference he makes. But three players for sure that make a difference on the defensive side of the ball to stop a player like Christian McCaffrey that you were without and you still only lost by 10. It wasn’t a good game. Final thought here. It wasn’t a good game. But based off of what I saw, I’m not ready to jump off the bridge. We’re three and three. We’re heading into a very favorable part of our schedule. You’ve got two very tough games against the Patriots and two and another game against the Colts, but you play the Dolphins, you play the Panthers. And look, I’m still on the boat that I don’t think the Panthers are that great of a team. I think they’ve had some good games. I don’t think they’re that great of a team. You still have to play the Ants twice. So, there’s still a lot of wins on the table. There’s still a lot of opportunities to go out and win this division. If you still have faith, like I still have faith. Type those ATL’s down in the comments. Also, this is the very end of our video, so it does show me that you watched to the very, very end. That’ll do it for us on today’s episode of Falcons Today. Falcons fans, a reminder to hit that subscribe button, like that video, and as always, rise up and be cool.
Atlanta Falcons news after the loss to the San Francisco 49ers is harder to look at now that more stats are coming out on the missed opportunities to put points on the board. Falcons Today host Trace Moustakas explains why this loss on Sunday Night Football does sting, but still feels like the Falcons aren’t and shouldn’t be considered a bad team. Moose does, however, call out Falcons quarterback Micahel Penix Jr, Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson and Falcons head coach Raheem Morris for poor football execution. Moose claims that poor play calling, Penix Jr’s performance, a lack of run defense and injuries were the main reason the Falcons lost in NFL week 7.

Falcons fans! Do you still believe in MPJ? Yes or No?
Like your gonna get paid
The biggest reason is we have invested heavily on offense and literally they can’t get anything going on that side of the ball. If bijan don’t put up 200 yds then we have no offense. Defense did well enough to hold them to 13 points up until the end of the game when it was gassed. Our defense is not supposed to be carrying us right now.
ATL it’s not that I dont have faith n the birds because although im reluctant to I just dont see many teams beating Baker
Mike McDaniels for OC 2026!!!!
Raheem Morris is a bad coach. We get outcoached near weekly.
I get the pressure thing with penix but he had no check downs we see when he has check downs he can get it to them quickly. This is a zach robinson thing he cannot scheme an offense for the life of him.
The falcons had 10 men on the field on that 3&13 play Raheem should of took the field goal. Zach rob play calling, o line wasn’t protecting Penix
ATL
Main Issue to this problem Atanta need a Quarter Back he need to run he stand In pocket to long not throwing ball this Quarter Back Is not ready for the field we need a Quarter Back that get down field he sit there because he lost out there if you all to keep In these game want any games we want a Super Bowl Atlanta good players I am a Female I no about football this Quarter Back cannot throw ball up under pressure he did not look good the coaching Staff need do something about this situation Offense and Defense look terrible last night I love Atlana Falcon we need a Quarter Back
Vikings had wrong QB in. Commanders best two offensive weapons were out. Bills should've just kept running the ball. Falcons would be 0 – 6. The defensive lineman Falcons drafted are too small and weak. They are only effective when a team passes a lot. A bunch of speed with no power.
Penix without Bijan looks like Tua without Tyreek hill. Hopefully they can hire Mike mcdaniels as OC
Thats on the o-line Moose. They gotta protect my boy. What do you suggest for that?
Can we fix the recurring in game coaching mishaps and mediocrity? I very much doubt it
Should they elevate Kentavius Street to help in run defense?
It’s hard but ATL
MPJ looks like a deer in the headlights when he is pressured!
Yes
Go falcons. Rise up
This game was winnable at the end but the Penix foot injury was a big hit to the team
Should of kept Grady Jarrett
Penix is not our qb kirk cousins should leading the offense. Kirk wasn’t ready last year or 100 percent healthy. Penix over throws to much or under throws too much. The 3 games we won was defense and bijan show up . Penix is not the reason we won 3 games
ATL
Falcons need a NT and Penix needs to play under center more!
Maybe we need a younger OC…someone you know, who’s not Zack Robinson!
Back to mediocrity? They never left mediocrity. Ruke Orrhorror is trash.
Zrob drags everyone else down. Allergic to scoring.
Arthur Blank must sell, we will never win with him, 7 straight losing seasons says it all. Boycott and protest and demand it be sold or a coaching change!!
RAHEEM MORRIS HAS A HORRIBLE LOSING RECORD FOR A REASON
This team should be steam rolling everybody they are loaded and first rounders in all skill positions.
Raheem Morris is horrible
Arthur Blank this is the truth, you are out of your mind crazy to hire a loser at your age after having 6 straight losing season and you go hire a horrible loser at your advanced age, do either do not want to win or you are out of your mind nuts!
This is what a losing coach looks like. All the talent in the world and they struggle and lose
bad play calling… I’m still all in on Penix, but I think Zach is over his head
I’d be down to harvest Zac Robinsons soul for a d tackle
I am an old timer. I been an Atlanta Falcons fan for years. This game could have went either way. I will give every player on that team at the present time. In every occupation there are short falls in anyone areas. We as fans know things are not going to be perfect in every setting. We have a QB still learning. This team has worked hard for them to be where they're today. We know playing sports we will win some and will lose some games. Now, please don't misunderstand what I am not saying there were no mistake, sure there were errors. Now, just my opinion this team will get better on weekly basis. Please understand we can't run our RB in the ground, 3 to 4 years he is done. My opinion and just my opinion defense came a long way from yesterday. Our offense coming around because they the one must put the scores on the board. There is no doubt the upper leadership is involved and something has to happen, KC, is getting paid and need to earn his money and let Michael Penix learn and don't get him hurt. QB M.P., the fans knows he has talent. If K.C. hurt it time for him to step up to the plate. K. C. control his contact. My opinion, he making to much money to ride the bench and be allow to make the money he is making. Offense Coordinator and QB Coaches need to come up with a plan and hold KC accountable, life is not fair, it time for everyone carry their own weight. My opinion would let KC start week 8, we know where MP stand. Every man on that team busting their chops and the highest player riding the bench. They hired K C, it time to make him earn his money. This not hard. To be true, he not going any because of the money. This will tear a team apart if he don't do his job. This will create friction with every team and soon or later the fans will see the attitudes. Leaders know you can't always carry a short fall. This will become a wound may never heal. "Rise High Birds," my Falcons as always, I strongly believe changes are coming as well as help in on the way.
As long as Morris is the coach there’s no chance of making the playoffs and I’ve never been sold on Penix he has a great arm but he’s not accurate and can’t handle any pressure. And that intentional grounding before the half was so stupid it’s beyond belief. 3rd game this year they left points out there at end of 1st half. If we had a decent coach and better qb this would be an elite team….but way it is gonna be 7-10 or 8-9 again.
ATL
ATL thanks moose!
CMC owned the falcons, he’s the best RB, your dumb coach should stop making dumb statements
Penix has been found out, every team is going to blitz him
